Good morning, Night Owls! Well, I've been out planting the garden. I have peaches and cream corn planted and Blue lake Bush green beans. In the morning I will get the cabbage and onions planted. I did not have the money to get all the containers and potting mix to do a container garden, so my friends came over and rototilled my back yard. They still have some to do, but I'm starting the veggie garden anyway and they know not to get near where I've alrady planted. I'm flagging those rows for safety. I'm having to work in the garden early in the morning, like sun up and late in the evening due to I can't handle the humidity. Which is funny as I lived in Bakersfield Calif. and we had temps over 100 all summer and I handled it. But than that was dry heat and not this humidity that we have here.
NIGHT OWLS ONLY - OPEN: 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. (3rd Call)
Sounds Good Marti ; My sandwiches had been more lively today , Leek, Garlic, Kale , Fresh garden lettuce (these all were fresh really)
Yes the humidity is like taking a shower in the Sun ,, woo -wee .. I planted some Celosia , and some False Nettle ,butterflies for Wildlife day ..
Last nights rain gave lots of cucumbers sprouting up and 3 more pumpkins !
Lupines might like the cooler temperature coming later this week ,Their making blooms (stalks) blooms to come shortly , five years old and they have only bloomed once before ,
Well it is the way it is , you have a good morning also ..
I'm having trouble sleeping cause I am so excited about a meeting I have this morning with the Community Action Agency at City Hall. We will be getting our pictures taken and the Major of Somerset is surposed to be there. May get our picture with him also. I have to be there by 9:45 am.
I got the onion sets planted and need to work on getting the rows made for cabbage plants. I have to plant spinach and watermelon. My only problem is some people said they would help plant and now they say no. My back will only take a couple of rows of planting seeds before it gives out and says NO MORE! Than I have to come in and lie down for a while. Plus the humidity gets to me. So I'm planting early in the morning, like 6:30 or 7am and than in the evenings like 7 to 8 pm.
Have any of you every gone to a fair and found a booth there with oyrsters, the kind that produce pearls? I used to go to the Los Angeles County Fair every yr and I would go pick out some oyrsters and collect the pearls with high ideas of what to do with them. Never did anything with them and now am trying to sell them. Had a guy come in and he is interested in all of them. The total price $170.00. We are dickering on that fee. I'm be happy to have enough to fill my tank on my jeep.
Well, think I'll try to get a little more sleep. Good night! I hope.
they have pearls seeded in oysters at a kiosk at disneywrld - kind of like that? but how wnderful that you can turn them into money now! your garden sounds terrific, too. i love cabbage!
wide awake, of course.
12.17 am and wide awake. I'm worry about my niece, Beth and what she has planned for me. This is the niece that cut me out of her life late last year and after several months of egnoring me, she started talking to me a little. Than she set me a nasty email that she wanted nothing more to do with me because I did not wave at her boyfriend. My son informed me that she talked to him and told him that she is concerned about me. She told him I was acting irrationly and giving away my food. The only food I have aways was an over abunduce of canned veggies that I had to some friends of mine as they needed some veggies and they would not have their check for 5 more days. So I gave them a few cans of veggies that I had backlogged here. She also told him that I was acting more and more like I had began to lose my mind like her mother did. MY son knew about the veggie thing and I talk to him daily and keep him informed of whats going on in my life. I have scheduled errand times with 2 ladies who live in the nighborhood. Neither have cars and I take them to doctors appointments, to pay their bills and get groceries 2. a month. One of them has become a good friend and we have dinner together once or twice a week. She calls me daily to say, "Hi and how are you?"
I have another niece, Gloria and her husband, who are living with me. They are looking for an appartment or trailer they can rent cheap as they are both on disablity so don't have alot of money. My mine probem is they have started drinking beer heavily. I don't mine someone having a beer now and than, but they will get drunk and acting like fools. I will be so glad when they get an appartment or trailer and move out. I can have my little place to myself again. And be able to set up my craftroom again. For now it is their bedroom.
It's raining right now and we've got some good wind blowing. At least all the plants are getting some water esp my garden.
Well, I guess I'll try lying down and see if I can get some sleep. I'm not tired but have to try.
1.07 am and not asleep. (i wouldnt call it "wide awake," lol.
Marti, you sound like you have a generous spirit and act on your beliefs! most people are t self-centered to see the owrld clearly.. good luck--i hope you get your craftroom back.
i wemt to lowe's and spent $75 on annuals.
Thanks, carrielamont. I just treat people like I want to be treated. My father taught me that.
Wish I had $75.00 to spend on annuals or anything from the nursery. I need to find someone who has dirt they have to get rid of. I need it here to make a raised bed for the memorial garden for my sister.
4:40 am and awake again.
G'mornin and g'nite everyone !
Here I am again, awake, and snackingon bread and butter. I am hooked on french bread and butter.
We have cool wet weather. I had to turn the little heater in my room on for awhile to get comfortable. But at least with the rain and cooler temps I don't have to figure out how to water the garden.
I took a nap a while ago , so I am up for a while also , browsing the web looking for plants and seeds ,
relaxing at least that is
A little colder here also about 40 degrees now .. too cold for now it is .
Had my nap, am up now for awhile. Its chilly here, so I've got the little heater in my room on. Someone told me we could get a frost tonight. I hope not. I don't have anyway to cover the tomatoes plants in the garden.
My son called me to tell me that his son (age 7) got sent home from school along with 3 other kids because of lice in their hair. This is the second time the boy has been sent home due to lice. My son and his wife had followed all the suggestions last time and will again this time. The school told them that lice do not jump from one kid to another. I can't figure it out. This is a kid who gets a shower/bath every night. He's mother is almost a fanatic about cleanliness. So they are pulling everything out of his room, washing everything and cleaning the rest of the house also, plus they have to be at a memorial service this afternoon and my son is entered in the state truck roadeo on sunday in Sacramento, Calif. So they will have a very busy weekend.
Well, woke up tonight havig morbid thoughts.
How is it that even when there are so many
blessings, good things, good people in my life,
those lonely, sad thoughts creep into my head ?
Sometimes when they crowd in and keep me
from sleeping, I start with "A" and think of all
the genuses of plants that begin with A, then
then B, etc. When I make it all the way to
X, Y, Z, its REALLY is a wakeful night !!
Revellie revellie time to get up. I have been sleeping non stop since I got home from Kentucky on Thursday night or I guess I should say Friday morning. My tomatoe plants look great and the flowers are all doing well.
ernie, I'm glad you got home safe. It was nice talking to you. How did you like Kentucky?
Well, it's 3 am or just about and I'm awake for awhile. I usually sleep on one side or the other and than my hips start hurting and I have to get up. I'll stack my pillows up so I can sit up when I go back to bed. Wish I had one of those nice big recliner chairs. Wish I had room for it! LOL
Almost 4 am and I'm up. Of course this is the second time I've gotten up. I tried to go back to bed, but am unable to fall asleep.
I got more planted in the veggie garden, but it's a slow go. I just can't work for long time out there. I get one row made and have to take a break. I did get the cabbage plants in and last evening I got the watermelon planted. I still have cucumbers and spinach to plant. I think this yr is going to be more of an experiment than actually get much produce. I need to get a small tiller for myself and than I can keep the garden tilled and ready for next yr.
Marti I liked Kentucky but I could tell it's much to hot for me. I did find it so peaceful to fish in the many ponds for blue gill and crappie I got lots of them and even got one bass. The Lady I visited with and her hubby were wonderful host. When I grow up I hope to pass that way again.
I worked in my green house today up potting tomatoes and peppers it was warm and very pretty out. In the afternoon I went to town and had dinner with an old friend of mine. We had grilled trout, grilled red and green peppers and deep fried calamari . A yummy simple salad with tomato, mushroom and onion. Bread was a crusty Italian type even.
OK, so I am a REBEL ! Sue me !
I'm breakin da RULZ !!!!!!
(its after hourz)
Sunday was the North Texas Roundup. It was a blast !
Thanx to it, I have slept like a log for TW NIGHTS in a row !
Amazing ! I highly recommend it !
I got some good news on Sunday, but havn't got it posted yet so here goes.
My son is the winner of the California Truck Driving Championship in the 3 axle catagory.
As a 1st place winner in the State competition he will be sent to Pittsburg in August to drive in the National Truck Driving Championships. I am so proud of him. It also got his 10 yr without any accidents award from FedEx Freight That's who he drives for. When he was 16, I taught him to drive in my 4X4 with a stick shift. So I'm patting myself on the back for getting him started.
A friend come over this evening and we got a couple of rows made and planted some more onion sets and a row of peas with chicken wire for them to grow on. I think I'm going to see if I can get one of those Toro Mantis tillers. Its small but I should be able to handle it and I can keep my veggie garden neat and from packing down.
Wow! That's fabulous marti! Congrats to both of you.
Thanks, 13turtles. I wish I could go to Pittsburg for the National, but don't have the money to make the trip. He said he would call me as soon as he finds out his standing after the Nationals.
Very cool.
4 am and I'm sitting here and can't sleep. I need to get some sleep as I have to drive to Lexington this morning to see 2 of my doctors. They try to make my appointments the same day to stop me driving more than once to Lexington. It takes me a 1/2 tank of gas to drive up and back. I need to get a tune up on my Jeep but don't have the money right now. $113. is what the mechanic says the tune up will cost me.
My Apothacary Rose is bloom like mad right now. It has 8 blooms on it and smells nice. I think I'll put it in the ground this year. I think it will do better.
Its beautiful, Marti !
Here I am, up again and wide awake. My doctor yesterday said that I need to lower my stress level. I actually feel a little better today after talking to her yesterday.
The ortho surgeon has decided to treat my knews with cortisone shots and physical therapy for the next 3 months. Than I will see him again. He would like to see my thinner and strengthed in the leg before he talks surgery. He feels surgery is the last thing to do and he wants me in better spade just in case. I agree with him. I had my left shouder surgery last yr and my right shoulder this yr., plus in 2012 I had right wrist surgery to remove a gangalion cist removed and that in June 2012 I had bi lateral breast cancer lumpectomy. So I've had a surgery every yr for the past 3 yrs. I'd like to hold off. I've been trying to strenght my legs myself and now will have perfessional help for the next 2-3 months. I have also been working on loosing wt. I'm down 43 lbs in the last 2 yrs. My doctor says that a good solid wt lose goal for someone of my age and health.
omg, marti, i am probably up 43 lbs in the last couple years! that's fabulous! ok, nt 43, but i have gsined 20-25 lbs since we moved to texas. :( and i forgot to go to the roundup BB went t. 8 bought 3 plants n sale from high cuntry gardens, an agastache, a trailing rsemary and a blueflas.
Marti, your ortho dr sounds RIGHT ON .
I had the shots about 5 years ago, and
it really helped. I have had NO problems
with the knee since !
In Mexico they jokingly (well, usually jokingly),
call doctors "matasanos", which translates to
"kill the healthy"...
Carrie, glad to see you are back. We missed
you at Roundup. It was a perfect day.
