NIGHT OWLS ONLY - OPEN: 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. (3rd Call)
Look at the time it says we posted. My computer and my clocks say it is 1:55 am The postings are showing 1 hour earlier.
Computer does that every so often , trouble results from all the time zones , electronics do make mistakes ! .. The devices cannot always correlate the info ,,
I'm sitting here listening to the rain come down. My plants will just love all the water. They will get a good drink and I'll be able to dig some more ground up as it will be softened with the rain. This soil around here is red clay so it packs hard. I'm turning in wood chips and peat moss to help the soil.
Lots of storm warnings tonight. The thunder and lightening have ended. I wish it would have continued for a while. I sleep better when it is storming. Daffodils and azalea blooming beautifully. I hope no one had any tornado touchdowns.
yeah, i've just finisned reading the news abut how many were affected by tornados this week. hpefully none of our dg pals. it's cool and muggy here in dfw, but nothing scary. good morning, everybody :-).
Good morning!
I'm with you slvrwilo, a storm is the best lullaby ever. But it has to make sound! We get rain and then some, but it's just water falling down from the sky. The earth is all clay, so I can only hear it if I'm near the stove exhaust vent, funnily enough that is not my preferred sleeping spot. Gotta fix that I guess.
I too hope that everybody is okay. The whole region has been in my thoughts all day.
rabbit rabbit! it's May!! may is the best month! it has may day, many birthdays and memrial day weekend. mthers day, too. by may, in bostn, you could buy lobelia (one f my fsvrite annuals) and i used to buy a huge flat of ig, and just tuck it in everywhere.
my mther and i bith have birthdays in may. she always used to say mothers dsy didnt count becauuse ur birthdays are soon after, but my husband celebrates everything!!! plus we always used to buy a tree r a shrub n mthers day. may is a happy month.
Happy happy Carrie!
I guess that should be: happy happy happy happy happy. Does that cover it?
I've been up-potting tomatoes. They are increasing, so far. I will not use sponges again, though, because "micro-surgery" becomes nigh impossible.
Your lobelia comment made me realize, I haven't bought a single plant yet this year! Which I am counting as a positive because I've been germinating my own. Few ornamentals though, purely ornamental I mean.
Too bad my phone hardly ever types the letter O. Sorry!

I come every so often and read this as I use to be like this alot. I am excited to here we still have angels that help wonderful DGers stay here with us. I like ATP but with all my family here of 11 years and counting I just have to find a way to stay even if I 5 dollars for 2 months along. I do know however sometimes 5 dollars is impossible to come by.
Keep on trucking my wonderful friends as you are all wonderful in my book :) :)
Good morning to everyone! Here it is 12.43 am and I can't get to sleep. I hurt all over and took a pain pill but even that is not helping. I can't get laid down comfortable. Guess I'll just stay up til I fall alsleep at my desk again.
We got the mower started today and took down most of the weeds than the mower quit and we could not get it restarted. Have to talk to the mower fixer guy about it later this morning. But the yard does look better with the worse of it mowed down. My irises are starting to send up buds. The plants have really double and tripled. Where the was only 1 or 2 now I have a dozen.
I want the iris to take over the area were they are growing. Now I just need to get the daylily area under control and move all the daylilies into it. Or maybe I'll just mix them all together with the peonies, and other flowers. What do you think?
I personally like mixes, marti, but if plants have different cultural requirements then I imagine separate beds is much easier. Maybe there's a compromise -- in the same bed but maintaining sarate clumps?
Hope you get to sleep in a lying down way.
I got a nap but I'm up again. Sitting here eating bread with butter and drinking some tea. I kind of like mixed beds also. It's just that the iris seem to take over everything. All my name tags washed off with the snow and rain, so I don't know the names on the iris, but I have colors ranging from white to black and every color in between. It's nice to know the names but it doesn't bother me that I don't have names on them. I'll post pictures of them when they open on the iris lovers site and maybe someone can ID a few for me.
Your night posts always give me the munches marti! Lol. Mmm, bread and butter...
I've never had an iris bed so I'm unfamiliar with their takeover habit. Does it happen pretty quickly? Or give you a few years to enjoy before you have to dig and divide?
I'm about to go try for some sleep. Already took my valerian tincture. A couple hours ago, actually, but not feeling sleepy yet. Sigh.
Most of my iris have been here for the last 3-4 yrs and I have some that need to be seperated just to reduce the size of the bunch. I have a beautiful, bright yellow that need dividing. Don't know the name so all my iris will be Noid's.
some, r maybe several dg writers have written about how and when and why to divide iris. look under guides and information. marti, is yr pain med Tramadol by any chance? my husband takes that and he finds it often makes it harder to get to sleep. on the other hand, pain will do that too!!!!
One of my pain meds is Tramadol but I only take it durning the day. I have Percocet for night time and it does help me sleep some.
Well, I'm up, drying off. Woke up with a night sweat. My nightgown was soaked. I see my DR of the 22 of May and will talk to her about this sweats and that they are getting worse. I wonder if this is a result of the anti-estroden pills I take for my breast cancer treatment.
I am up just want to say Marti I have a couple bright pink shirts that say fight like a girl. My wife and I have supported the relay for life program for several years. We sold 2500 dollars worth of those shirts. I didn't get mine for free they were special ordered in the 2x size and the silk screening was added to the shirt. No big deal that your flowers you just said you have a beautiful yellow. Heck I would rather have a beauty no name that a so so named lol. If you decide to thin them you can thin some my way especially the bright yellow. I only have a couple of Iris and don't know why. I used to have more .
My garden is providing already lettuce, salad onions, and spinach. More to come soon. I did a four foot garden it is in a raised box 4 feet x twelve feet, It is divided into 48 squares and planted so you never have to walk on your dirt. It is so mature you can hardly see any dirt. This means no more weeding lol anyway just google square foot garden if you are not familiar with it.
My yellow iris should open today. I have several others that are close to opening.
Got part of my backyard tilled and am working to make rows so I can plant the corn, beans, peas, cabbage, tomatoes and spinach. We are due for rain on Saturday so I want everything planted before than. Or maybe I should wait til Sunday and plant after the rain. What do you all think?
I don't know for sure Marti , But the old "Plant Before it Rains " Sometimes I am planting right when it starts to rain ,,
It is not as fun when I was a youngster , but it works ,, plants grow ,,
i'm setting up Beans now ,, Lots to go , I am off to a slow but steady start ..
Great year for Dandelions here , ! lol Best I have seen in years !
I had a good batch of dandelions here also. Got enough dandelion tea in the freezer to make 2 batches of jelly. Just have to get some new lids for my jars.
Right now I'm sitting here eating homemade blackberry jam sandwich. Can't sleep and I have the munches.
I'll get out just after dawn and work on making more rows in my veggie garden. It hit 83 yesterday but its the humidity that nails me, so I work outside early am and than just before dark I try to finish up.
Marti, dahlin, blackberries are my favorite fruit !
Stop teasing me with that talk !
ILJ, glad to see you here !
Pop in more often !
LOL!! BajaBlue. I love making jams and jellies. IE; Elderberry jelly, Dandelion Jelly, Blackberry jam and jelly, Peach jam et. When my freezer went out I lost all the fruits I had stored in there for jam and jelly. DARN!!
I love home made jam and jelly . My wife only makes three kinds. Raspberry's, strawberries, and peach. My mother made the best grape jam and jelly. I miss my mothers jams and jellies but I miss my mother most of all.
I am so tired after flying all the way across the country. I have had a few naps today and will try to go to sleep now.
Well, I slept during the humidity of the afternoon and now am wide awake. Wish I had outdoor lighting and I'd go out and work in the garden before the heat and humidity takes over.
I am up walking around , 80's coming here for the first time tomorrow .this season ,, that is warm ,,
I have no idea of what I am doing , only walk , munch a little , watch a few minutes of this , then wit about that , until I lose the wit .
gets to hot to garden in the afternoons like that , happens quick too ,
Love the Jam talk , munchies ... oh Boy !!! oh goodie!!!
Well on , and on , i could go , But garden talk is suppose to be restful , relaxing ,,
Good heavens ! begins to sound like a Hypnotist ,, your getting , sleepy ,,, very sleepy now . sleep , a deep , deep sleep ....he .he ..
juhur, i read that you wanted a deep, damp sleep, and i thought, gosh, that is pretty humid!!
Carrie , LOL!!! Garden humor gardeners nightmares , from floods and washed away to Dry Humor , drought..
Or am I only being a Stinkbug he , he ,
Lemon cake and ice tea! Yummy!! I'm at it again. Sleep 1-2 hours and than I'm up prowling. I wish I had flood lights in the yard than I could work in the garden. As long as I'm going to be up, gardening would be something to do.
My son is on his first camping trip with his son, age 7. Wish I could be there to share the experience with him and my grandson. But his wife is with them so I am not welcome. They are camping with my granson's classmates. It is a school outing at Moro State Park in Calif.
Got my tomato plants planted this evening just before dark. Tomorrow I will plant the corn and green beans. With rain predicted for the next 3-5 days the seeds will enjoy the rain.
Saturday morning and I'm up and I have to work later this morning. I need to get some sleep but can't seem to get to sleep. I'm waiting for the rain to start. I sleep good in the rain and thunder, but so far its just cool outside.
My friends came over and rototilled some more of my back yard. They will be back to finish it next week as they work the flea market on Sat and Sun. They are going to til my whole back yard. That's 70 feet wide by 75 feel long. When they are done and I've got the yard raked down, I will be able to plant my elderberry bushes, my cabbage plants and my strawberry plants. I will need to re-evaluate my garden area for next yr, but am doing what I think is right for now. By fall I'll know if I planted it right or if I should rethink my planting patterns. I would like to have my own tiller. Maybe by next spring I can work that out.
Hey marti!
How nice to have somebody till for you, though. Beats renting doesn't it?
I'm curious what your actual temperatures are these days?
Hope you get some sleep, and stop teasing me with dreams of lemon cake ;~). Oh YUMM!
Howdy, folks...........been awhile since I've been here. Can't sleep, toss and turn.............forgot my iPad at work on Wednesday so no help there. Maybe this nice glass of Reisling will help..........
You'd think that all that I've done the last 2 days would have tired me out so I could sleep.............the SU and I tore down 2 old buildings that were just junk and had junk in them. Amazing we only found 1 dead raccoon in one of them. I was sure we'd evict some skunks; thank God there weren't any.
Hope the SU gets my garden tilled tomorrow so I can put in what plants I've bought.
Rain has halted the tilling of my yard. Maybe they can get to it today or tomorrow. Depends on the weather. It didn't rain real hard, so my friends said they would try it agin.
I now have water on in the trailer after 4 months. I can FLUSH the toilet!! No more outhouse!!
In order to get water on to the toilet, wash basin, and kitchen, we had to saciface the tub, so no showers still. I'm hoping to save up enough money, so that next spring I can have all the PVC under the trailer replace with that new pumbing hose. It will not break if it freezes and if I can all so come up with the money to get insulation for the hose, I will not have to worry about freezing pipes. So I'm putting away every cent I can to completely re-plumb this trailer next spring.
For now I will just make do and get back to trying to get some sleep, so I can plant in the garden when the sun comes up. I've got a couple of hrs til than.
not asleep,but not awake..
...still not asleep...
happy mothers day, folks. i feel like saying "three-o-clock, and a-a-alls well."
Just got home from the ER. (I'll be fine.) I'm pooped but have to attend to my seedlings. I would love some lemon cake and a nice hot cup of tea, sigh. My DC drove 2 hours to come be with me and so is already asleep.
Carrie, go to sleep now :~) Yeah, like that helps, I know. Probably about as well as it works on myself. You probably can't tell, but I was trying to convey those words in a soothing tone.
Looks like marti may actually be asleep. I hope so.
