Well, here I am awake and restless at 3:17 am. Pain woke me and drove me out of bed, plus I need a munchy, so am baking my last peach pot pie. Wish I had a little vanilla ice cream to put on it, but it will be just fine by itself.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Hi ya Marti I would say get some snow for quick snow Ice cream .. but that sounds kind of mean , not meant that way . only sounds like it ..lol
Peach pot pie , peach cobbler .. that sounds delicious !!! morning munchy !!!

Goodness I am in a giggling mood this morning ,, don't know why though.... only am ...

4 am and I'm awake and up. I'm still volunteering at the Community Action Agency here in Somerset. I get to meet new people every day and some interesting charactors to boot. My co workers punked me on Tuesday. One of them went out of the office called in on her cell phone and pretented to be a possible client asking about the program and what all she needed to bring in for herself, her husband and 9 grand children to qualify for the program. I answered all of her questions. And when I got off the phone I was laughing my head off as she sounded like ma Kettle. I said I'd like to me this lady as she sound like quite a charactor, than my co workers broke down and told me what they had done. I have to get even with them, some how!!!

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I always fancied myself a bit of a jokester , but I'm stumped on getting even .I would hope I knew someone who knew someone near the Governor or Mayor ,Who could call from their office and say they were coming to review in person the program ..
Everybody would be on their best and fanciest . only to hear , made ya look ....
I don't know to many jokes that would work to get even with that , for fun ..

Oh well , for now , you sound like your taking as or like "Good one people" ha , ha ,
Guess you get them all a soda or something , And say I'm working on it ,, like you would a brother or sister when younger

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Well, up and not sleepy. I had a balonga sandwich and played some games on my computer and now I'm checking in to see if there are any other night owls around.
2 days now the guy who is taking the logs off my property from trimming the trees was here and burned alot of limbs. I need to get out the fan rake and rake up the small twigs all over the yard and get them on the burn pile. It's surposed to be in the high 50's today so maybe I can get some more burned after I get back from the flea market.
I have to go to Lexington on the 5th. I have to be there by 8:10 am which means leaving home by 6 am. I'll see my MD than the ortho MD about my knees. Hope he can do something to ease the pain in my knees.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Ugh, i hate to hear about pain.
Ps
I have a few questions for night owls: is it a problem that's you don't sleep the way everyohe else does? Do you take sleeping pills or anythingg?

for me, it's only a problem of trying to sleep when my husband sleeps....impossible.
i

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I don't know about other night owls but pain is what keeps my from sleeping more than a couple of hrs. Because of my kidney malfunction I can't take most pain meds. I do have some Voltaren Gel that I use and it helps alittle. But mostly I just get up and play games on the computer.
My friends that I help out on the weekend at their booth at the local flea market bought me a present yesterday for helping them out. (They usually give me gas money, free cokes, and let me pick out cloths or other things that I need) They bought me a tablet PC. I had looked at it but could not afford the $125.00 price tag. They saw me looking at it and asked me about it and I said I would love to have one so I could carry it with me to dr appointments etc and have games to play on it. I was so surprised when they presented it to me for helping them. Now I just have to learn to use it. It even has WIFI on it!!

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Mostly in the cold a hernia scar cramps , smarts a some . Other aches and pains get me also .
Besides the usual age things ,, always something ...
Not much doing here ..

Came back to say , that is a nice gift ,, delightful in fact ...^_^

Marti, I have to say, I am not in favor of pain. I am sorry you have so much that it keeps you awake. Are there non-drug alternatives to help you cope? Don't ask me, I just take drugs.

but the new tablet sounds great. Is it like a big smartphone?

juhur, as i believe I indicated, down with pain. Would a heating pad help?

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Sometimes it might as it is tendon circulatory , nerve pain.. Sometimes hernia , there is pain long after , When I was young I remember a lot of people that ended up walking only with walkers at a rather early age for that ,
It was a serious condition back then ,today is much better , the process , but they still hurt long after , as in sometimes forever ,,

Well, I saw the knee specialist On Wednesday and he says I need a total knee replacement. He gave me a shot in my knee and says I have to wear a knee brace until I have surgery. I will see my shoulder ortho on the 11th and see what he says. I can't do both surgery together or close to each other. If they do my knee first I can't have my rotator cuff repair down because I will need to be able to use crutches and can't do that with only one arm. If we do my shoulder first, it will be 6-12 months before I can use crutches. Plus I won't be able to drive for several weeks and will go crazy here by meself and no getting out. Whatever I do will delay my gardening again this year and I need to get my trailer cleaned up so I can get around without falling over things. I am still sorting out my sisters boxes and deciding what to keep and what I can do without. She was quite a hoarder.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Marti Iam not on here much during the hours I am up. I wish I lived closer to help you out. Wow your knee and a torn rotator cuff. That is awful. I hope you can atleast find pain relief in what ever comes first.
Did you fall and hurt both at the same time? I am usually up just can't sleep. I can relate to pain as this is a colder winter then usual and I have aches on my aches :(

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

marti, what a great new toy!!!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I'm just up. Hormones or too much screen time . But I took an ibuprofen in case that will help when I decide to go back to bed. I need a good book so I can read instead of computer late at night.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I just had to get up for awhile. I've read all my books, so will look thru my friends books at the flea market today and see what I can find to read.
The shot in my knee has helped with easing the pain in it, so now I just have to contend with the shoulder hurting. It does not help to be cold either as I shiver and that sets off my shoulder to hurting. The brace I have to wear on my knee bothers me. It slides down and about every hr I have to stop at the restroom and pull down my pants to get to it to pull it back up where it belongs. Plus the back of it is rubbing a sore on the back of my knee. Well, I guess I can't have everything.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Gosh, Marti, it sounds like pain has you everywhere you turn. May I reccomend the accessible gardening forum?

I figured out how to put ebooks on my cellphone. Then I dont have to put the book away and turn the light out, which is enough to wake me up!

Well, I'm scheduled for surgery on my right shoulder to repair my rotator cuff on March 6th.

Amanda..I am up. Where are you!!!! Lol

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Breaking the rulez!

Lots of warm hugs, soothing breezes and positive thoughts for you on March 6, Marti!

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Its time to be up and at them!!! At least for me it is! I woke up about 1:30 spent sometime on the computer and then tried to go back to bed. Gave up at 3 am and got dressed and am now sitting here finishing an afgan I should of had finished by Christmas or at least shortly after, but it hurts my shoulder to crochet for long periods. I've only got a short way to go to finish it now and will see that it gets to the young boy I made it for.
19 days til I have surgery on my right shoulder, than I'm out of commission for about 3 months. I will not be able to drive for the first couple of weeks. I will go crazy!! We are trying to get the TV on so at least I don't have to try and get up every 1 &1/2 hrs and change the DVD. I think we've decided to go with Dish Network. I have Windstream for my internet and phone.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

where's Amanda been? Sleeping or something???
Funny how I changed my attitude. Laying awake at 12:30 means "Hey, I can get on the computer for awhile, go back to bed at 2, and maybe still get 4 hrs. Not so bad.."

marti good luck with your surgery.

carrie have you tried a book yet, on the cellphone? I put an app on but haven't picked a book yet. It came with a couple Classics but I've already read Wuthering Heights and not interested in the other two.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Thanks to all for the well wishes for my surgery.

I now have one of my nieces and her husband living with me. He has spent the last 2 days cleaning my kitchen and moving things around. He moved the refriferator, my cabinet were I keep canned foods, and mopped the floors. All the things I've wanted to do but just did not have the energy to do. The kitchen looks bigger now and it is easy to get to things..I'll have to watch him or he'll start on my bedroom next. My bedroom could use some help, but for now I just want to leave it alone.

The niece that lives next door to me has cut me off again. Why? Because I did not wave at her boyfriend. She will now not allow me to get water from her place as my water is still off. The guy that was going to come and fix the broken pipe under the trailer had back surgery and cán not do any work. I'm about ready to crawl under there myself and see what I can do.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Sally, I have a nook app which allows me to read bools on the cell phone. (3 years agI wouldn't have understood any of those words!)

Amanda,,, So, So, Sorry to hear about your poor Snoopy dog. please let us know if we can do anything for you,,,

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

i'm keeping track of amanda on facebook.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

just checking in. 2:36 am local. last night i slept very well but tonight, not so much. new med is supposed to have a side effect of sleepiness.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Well, it's 4:45 am and I've been awake since 3 am. Decided to get up, get dressed (to keep warm) and see if anyone else is up and about. 8 more days til my shoulder surgery and I'm getting nervous. I am right handed and will spend 2-3 months without the use of my right arm after surgery. Plus the physical therapy that I will go thru.

mulege, Mexico

Wrong time to post but I want to respond.

I had a horrible time before my knee surgery. It was worse than the recovery. Really. Once it was over and I knew what had happened it was nothing compared to my pre-operation fears.

You could practice doing things with your left hand now and think of how much more ambidexterous you will be six months from now.

Easy for me to say, right? However, my left knee- the one that was operated on - is now one of the best, least painful parts of my body.

Hang in there. This too shall pass.

hugs, katie

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Still wrong time to post but I am a big fan of PT. It hurts at first but it is a little like having your own personal trainer.

I had an OT once who was rather outraged that EVERYBODY didn't practice doing things with their non-dominant hand in case of this eventuality. My dad had a stroke and the dominant side is paralyzed. So he does things with his left arm or doesn't do them at all (mostly the latter). I had an episode of very painful tendinitis on my right side and had to learn to do a lot of things left-handed. (It's better now.) My 75 y o mother had knee replacement also. She is very literal, and they told her to join a gym so she did. Now she goes to her gym twice or three times a week.

Also, there is voice-activated software to use the computer with. You could talk to Jill (critterologist) because she recently came off a stint of being unable to use both arms, and did all kinds of alternatives.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I had this same surgery on my left shoulder January 2013 so I know what to expect. I will be going to the same PT office as the last time, so I know them and what has to be done Doesn't mean I can't still be nervous about the whole thing. At least this time I will have someone here to help me. My niece and her husband are living with me for now and will be a very large help. They have been helping me get the trailer cleaned up and set up the way I want it. They've also been helping out in the yard.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Glad to hear thy have been so helpful!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Helpful relatives will make a difference. Glad you knoe what to expect. Good luck.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

expecting another snow day tomorrow, all the local schools have already closed, calling for 10+ inches in this area now, the most we've had all winter, topping off a winter with the most frequent (but lighter) snows that I remember. we are so ready for spring! it's steady rain at the moment. thank heaven for sump pumps.

Richland, WA(Zone 7b)

I just stumbled upon this thread as I came in to put the computer to sleep. I want to tell you marti001 that you will be fine after having your rotator cuff fixed. I had severe damage on mine and surgery was 2 years ago. it is a long, hard recovery period, and every PT session is very crucial, so be a good patient and do exactly as they tell you-NO cheating or you will pay dearly for it- it took a full year for me to say I was healed, and I will never be 100% as far as range of motion, but the terrible pain is gone.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Girls girls Rulz. Speaking of Ever notice how easy it is to break the rulz when you have company.?

I haven't had the dreaded rotator problem but my shoulder did try to freeze and that and the pt was just no fun. When my wife had it I felt so helpless to help her but after the first week it got better.

The weather has warmed to a balmy 33 and the wind has died so we are looking pretty good right now. So much so that I am thinking real strong about putting more seeds in the dirt and see what will happen. lettuce and carrots are on the way up. I will prolly do some beets and tomato's by weeks end.

Amanda where art thou? If you don't show soon we will try you in abstensia or something like that for abandonment.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

JoParrott, I had my left rotator cuff repaired Jan 2013 and so I know how much I have todo to heal.I also have bone spurs in my shoulders. The surgeron removed them from my left shoulder and will remove them from my right shoulder when He fixes the rotator cuff.
Because I also have arthritis in my joints, I am not completely free of left shoulder pain, but it is much better than it was. I have a great PT and am determined to do everything I have to get better.
