I rented an old Victorian house. You can rent it by the night, week, weekend, etc. It had a formal dining room that seated about 14, cozy but doable. A parlor that had a couch and 2 chairs, and we sit the kids table up in there, then there was a big living room with a couch, love seat, 2 chairs, and we were able to sit up one of those long plastic tables with chairs. Course several of us were busy helping everyone get food and drinks, the Moms were helping the little kids, and then we all sit down I guess about the time the first wave of folks got done eating...rofl. So it really all worked out ok. Some folks were going out to smoke (it was freezing). A lot of us were roaming from area to area talking so I really never noticed it was a problem if you wanted to sit down. Course lots were roaming thru the house just looking at it. I really wasn't expecting 40+ folks, really thought I would be doing good to get 20...rofl. I actually counted heads while everyone was busy eating. Course several of the younger ones were sitting on the floor, but no one seemed to mind.
The owners of the house had decorated for Christmas so there was a tree in the parlor and a tree in the master bedroom...too cool. We took pics of the families in front of the tree in the parlor. Worked out good because the out of town quest had a place to stay for the night also. Friday night we drank wine, ate pizza, and talked until probably 4am. How often is it you have time to spend with your cousins now that you are grown up... ;) My cousin started making noodles at 2 in the morning...rofl, I didn't live far just a mile down the road so I went home and threw the turkey and the ham in the oven at 4, we crashed for about 2 hours and were back up drinking coffee and tea by 6:30!
I have to admit it sure has made me happy just to see everyone and everyone enjoying themselves. Lots of laughter, probably the best Thanksgiving I have ever had. Sure missed family we have lost thru the years but hopefully they were watching and enjoying.
