we came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1330942/
Kyle goes to Georgian College here in Barrie, had 3 hours to spare between classes so came to visit..ended up spending his 3 hrs. here with us.
Sent him for pizza for lunch..Suzanne invited him back every Thursday.
He mentioned his car needed servicing so sent him off to get it done, said he didn't need my $$$ but I told him not to say no to $$ every little bit helps, got a smile!

Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friends,new/old
He sure is growing up!
Well .. I went to FOUR stores looking for an OVAL table cloth .. yer right, must be we have the ONLY 3 oval tables in North America !!
Settled on ROUND and will have to tape it under again :-(
Bought matching chair pads as well and placemats ..
THANK YOU ALL so very much for thoughts and prayers for Michelle, I know my D in Law is not handling the loss of her best friend very well, who would .. one day they were shopping and partying, the next day Michelle is in a coma on life support, my heart just aches for her folks and her son ..
Was trying to sit outside, seems the WASPS liked our company, so, after a few near misses we moved inside :-(
LOL Betty, my gosh how those boys have grown !! And Kyle will likely be a THURSDAY hit !
Off to feed the dogs
TOODLES

Marilynne, do you have Christmas Tree shoppe up there....they have tons, and where I got mine.
We'll have to go there Debbie on the 24th
Paul and I went there Tuesday, lots of things on sale Betty.
Mostly fall things?
"M". What size and color are you looking for, I could get one and sent it to you
Betty, the entire store had big sales.....
Did you take advantage of the sales?
I got a new cutting board with a rooster on it.....and a little glass dish for making
french toast
Love the Christmas Tree Shoppe, can always find something I can't live without there. I got really good deals on down comforters to put in my duvet covers that I make instead of quilts.
Always good deals on Holiday accessories too, plates, napkins, tablecloths.

Oops sorry for the duplication.

You and your roosters. Lol
Holy wahh, hot bath, sprayed with mint freeze (feels good on the shoulders)
Laying on the couch snuggled up in a rag quilt with fireplace on
Going to be cold tonight !
"M". Doubly difficult with the loss of the young girl only months ago..how are her parents doing?
Karen I rarely miss a stop at the Christmas Tree store, Debbie introduced me to it, love it.
Like you often something I want to bring home.
We have another hurricane on the way. If it continues as sit's going now we will get hit dead on on Monday or Tuesday. Tony should be here tomorrow so we can pack up glassware and fill sandbags and put up plastic.
I am doing a lot of thinking about what to say to my retirement board. what they are doing is abusive of retirees and to the benefit of the board and their employees. Not what the board is supposed to be doing.
It is hard for me because I have taken a lot of abuse from various people and while I have defended children who were being abused I've not been very good at standing up for myself. Time to change that if I can.
Sorry about the friend being taken off life support. So young with so much to live for.
Still praying for the babies.
And all my friends here.
hugs, katie
We have a Xmas shoppe here that opens in DECEMBER !!
I did get a tablecloth today at WallyWorld, haven't put it on yet .. but, the chair pads must have been made for Minnie Mouses house!! Put one on and it hardly covered the middle of the chair, so, back they go tomorrow :-(
Looks like perhaps I will have to try HomeSense Betty .. only thing with that store is the PRICE !! Sure not Walmart prices, but, I guess with company coming who cares LoL
Just am so STUMPED re this lack of OVAL tablecloths ..
Michelle's parents have had about a week watching her on life support with NO response, and, 3 days to deal with the fact that the aneurysm is not fixable, and, Michelle should be removed from the vent .. I tend to think that it'll be anti climactic for them, but, such a stressful time .. I can't imagine thinking about it (being in their shoes) ..
Best get a move on, exercises ya know .....
Toodles

Katie, here is hoping this hurricane changes direction. When do you plan to head out for the hearing.
I too do better fighting for rights of others and not so good for me..likely due to emotions.
Keep safe
I just remembered something funny. We have a wind turbine in the living room which Tony installed a couple of years ago. We don't get rain often but when we do it leaks like mad. After the last storm I looked at Tony and said, "Could you maybe put silicone around where it's leaking We both just laughed; it had not occurred to either of us earlier that the leaks might be plugged. duh.
I'm hoping to leave on Tuesday or Wednesday so's to have a slow safe trip north.
kb
Lol yes sure does help!
How long are you expecting to be away? Such a long drive for you. How is that puppy, mstill bitting?
Woke at 4, up at 5, thinking about the dang retirement board and Hurricane Lorena wich is headed straight towards us.
If we get hit badly I may have to postpone my trip. Depends if roads are out as they often are after a hurricane. If ir ain't one thing it's another.
tony will be here at 7 and we can do hurricane prep. I'm so depressed about the retirement board situation I have almost no energy. However, my thinking is pretty clear so I think I'll be ok once I get there.
natter, natter.
hugs, katie
Morning all
Going to be a gorgeous fall day in my neck of the woods, imagine I have both the fireplace on and furnace...quite chilly when I got up this mornimg.
Housework all done so I've the entire day to play!
Know you Katie will be fretting..praying you will be on the road next week getting the pension issue sorted out..have they stopped your monthly payments? Can they do that?
Thinking about my 3 pensions, sure would hate to lose one of them.
Just got a call from Timbrr mart, Louis asking me how many holes for taps did I want drilled in the granite counter top? Heck if I know, told him to pick me a nice set of taps and drill for the set. He thought I should come in and pick a set, nope tap is a tap right..
Have to go to the stained glass studio after 3 pm to get a cap for mom's stained glass piece so thought I would run into town and buy a roll of linoleum so I can make a floormat for in front of the zinc, have it ready..now that I know what my color theme will be I can look for new shower curtain/towels and curtains (likely make those). Might do that when I'm in the states on the 24th.
Plans for weekend are:
See if my janome might work on the quilt frame, can't do a large area of quilting as it doesn't have a large throat but getting a little done is better than nothing
Need to cut grass and trim
Linda is suppose to come Sunday and spend the day sewing on her quilt
Would love to do a batch or two of beets, starting to have problems finding canning jars in the stores.
That is my agenda, what are you all up to today and weekend?
They can't stop my pension (so far). The current problem started when a lousy worker did cancel my medical insurance; almost as bad. She has repeatedly told me it was my fault and I've had it with being blamed for their many mistakes (27 years worth). There is a second situation and that is that the board backs up workers even if they deliberately lie to retirees and they use our money to pay a large legal department to protect them in court. It has cost me tens of thousands of dollars. Their administrative costs are out of sight and their servies suck.
Hope this doesn't sound too political.
hugs, katie
Betty, you might want to consider a tap with a tall spout. I had a regular one and switched it out as a tall one is much more convenient to use for filling tall containers. You'd be surprised how often you need it.
So agree with Karen about the tap.
Well Katie sounds as though you have a plan of action and can back up all their failures..sometimes all it takes is being one on one..maybe go in soft spoken, concerned about issues at hand and see where that gets you then if no help bring on your years of 'loud voice concern'. Lol
Karen, have a tall neck tap in laundry room and kitchen that I can use..this is for the washroom, badly needed upgrade..
Each year on New Years Day I fill out a 'goal' list for the year, major projects I'd like to see done
With this counter top I will have filled 2
3 more major upgrades then I can live with this place.
What a day, it's just beautiful out there..perfect type of day..
Put my Old Janome 9000 on the quilt frame, can only do about 5" across the quilt because of short throat but Lordy is sews so nice..can you see me smile!!
You're right betty. the hardest thing is to curb my anger, particularly at their heartlessness.
Some good news here. Lots of dragonfruit blossoms for the first time. We've had a few before; now we have two plants with dozens. Wonder if we will get any fruit. The flowers are gorgeous - about a foot long.
We also have guavas. Tony will take most of them to his family as I don't like them to eat but I love the fragrance and one or two fruit on the tree perfume the yard and the kitchen.
Tony is filling sandbags.
hugs, katie
Betty. Maybe you can call the place where your machine is and ask to use use one of their machines till your if fixed or replaced.
Katie please be careful with that storm coming.
Oh Katie, sure wish I was closer as I would ask for the guava to make jelly. Love the stuff!! We won't be having any fruit this year as it is so wet the trees are dropping them before maturing. Correction: my sister's trees won't have any guavas.
Take care with the approaching storm.
LindaKay,
I asked them not for a loaner but asked if I could rent one, no they or anyone else they know rent sewing machines..guess I have to be patient, they are trying. Don't mind in the least having to roll the quilt more often on the frame, as long as I'm getting ahead on the quilts.
Sure wish you were all closer to help with the crab apples..don't want jelly but bought what I needed for apple jam, at least I will try apple jam, now to find jars before I get ambitious
never tasted guava
nothing like having trees that offer a nice fragrance.
Sharon just called, she made roman blinds for one of her bedrooms, had a lot of problems the other day lining up stripes, drats, why on earth would she start with stripes..gave her some suggestions and lo and behold did a fantastic job. I mentioned that Linda (doesn't sew) is making a drop 9 black/white quilt and is coming to work on it Sunday, Sharon said if they don't watch out I'll make Susie homemakers out of them in no time lol
And then you will start to receive their quilts as gifts too!!!! Then what will you do???? Heehee
ahhh hadn't thought of that..nada, aren't the kind to be giving such gifts
how is your day, slowly getting the boxes unpacked?
Actually, I'm picking out fabrics for a quilt for my bed. and Then I get to sew!!! I haven't sewn a thing in nearly four weeks. Withdrawal has set in and today it goes!!!!
Good for you!!!
what pattern design did you pick?
Either a double Irish Chain or a completely different version of a log cabin type. I wanted something pieced but simple. Norm's quilt is a braid so I didn't want too fancy a project. I want to keep it simple. (Looking - that is). I want to do it in blues and if I do the Irish Chain, I want the center chain to be scrappy. I have pulled a few fabrics but haven't made up my mind yet.
so sorry Barb, knew it was your birthday today, saw it on my calendar and also reminder that Thunders is later on this month..
Woke up and it completely slipped my mind...singing now, off key but it's from the heart
May you have the very best of birthdays, will be if you are sewing and have Norm nearby!
happy birthday to day, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Barb, happy birthday to you..
sounds you have a plan for the quilt, half the work is deciding on fabric isn't it?
Well Betty, if we manage to get together in October, I will see that you have a chance to taste guava jelly...homemade not store type. I wish I was closer also, would love to have some crab apples.
Barb, I am so happy you will spend your birthday sewing. I am also having withdrawal pains but it will have to do for a few more days. Getting some much needed clutter out of the house finally.
Love all, last one has my attention especially if you can use up sme of those scraps.
Love Norms..
