Best/Worse/What did I learn today? chat with friends

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon all..

We've seen lots of things to be in awe of but got to tell you this swamp air boat trip girls say is now #1 on the list..

Right beside us it was raining, thunder/lightning but perfect where we were.

Was thankful we booked an airboat just for us and not in boats with 20 people..guide was so knowledgeable, a joker for sure..

Talk about alligators, all around us they swam, he fed them, heads raised at our boat.. Tour guy said it was at least 12' /14' long..he said some days you may not see any but because of the impending storm they were out in abundance..

Did you hear me scream?? Not sure how you didn't..I was taking photo', turned around and there he had a baby alligator in his hand, 9 month old ..did I let out a scream..Lordy, wasn't sure if I was up to holding the alligator but I did as did the other girls..we were all thrilled at being so brave!

Went to Jean Lafitte Museum, great history on the pirate, lay of the land, devastation etc..so glad we fit it in..

On the way home we stopped at the oldest graveyard in the state if not the USA..

saw USA high voodoo priestess's grave, Nocholas Cage's family grave he just bought..made in shape of a pyramid..it was to have been kept a secret but news was let out of the bag..

Joyce, I don't blame Bill for being very anxious about changing his meds..not sure what I'd do although doctor likely is leading him in the right way.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Trust me he knows all about the foods to avoid. Unfortunately, no one told him to avoid alcohol, and he had two beers with his Mexican supper last night. Not sure if that was what did it or not. He says he wished the Dr. had said come in TOMORROW for another test. He's feeling so unsure, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't call the Dr. in the morning and ask if he could come in.

Betty sounds like just a wonderful trip. What I wouldn't have given to be right there with you all!!!

LK and Debbie, thanks for the input. We need all the help we can get!

I have 16 stems waiting for mushroom caps and it's supposed to rain every day until Saturday. Sigh...I did clean out the shed, and I'm thinking about making them in there. However, it's so dark from the storm that I don't think I could see well enough to make them. Tomorrow I'm babysitting my great nephew and he's 4. I'm afraid I'd have way too much help if I decided to try it tomorrow. I may have to wait until he goes home and hope there's still enough light left.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Joyce, my Coumadin levels would flip around like that. They had me get three different strengh scrips, would do a draw every three days and then call to tell me what to take.

Betty we took an airboat ride in the Everglades. I was awesome until the guide who was standing behind me asked if I was afraid of snakes. I said no and the next thing I knew, I was holding a three foot alligator. I was amazed at how strong it was. I also told him he was pretty foolish to hand it to me without warning. I said suppose I was afraid of gators, it would have been tossed over the side.

Still trying to get past what ever bug has a hold on me. Hubby took me to an Urgent Care branch of our local hospital saw a PA and they said UTI and prescribed antibiotic. I'm not too confident of that diagnosis as I don't have any of the usual symtoms except for the fever. That was two days ago and still no better. Our Drs. office has 8 Drs. yet they can never get someone in on short notice and say to go to Urgent Care. What's the use of having a Primary if you only see them twice a year? No real pain but so weak I can hardly walk. I'm forcing my self to eat a bit but no appetite I spend much of the day sleeping.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh no, that sounds awful. :o( Hope you feel better soon.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hello all! Its flooded all over my area!
Betty I wanted to give you a heads up to watch the weather, Nashville got slammed and it is flooded there big time, they're giving updates on the weather channel

Victoria Harbour, ON

Karen, sure do hope you are feeling better..perhaps you should go to hospital emerge. Same airboat ride as you, could see it was raining in New Orleans yet we had sunshine.

our guy was talking snakes hanging from the trees..guess the girls edged him on, tickled my neck with snake..didn't scare me. Lol. Wouldn't have screamed re baby alligator it's just the surprise of him taking it out.

Crissy thanks for the heads up re Nashville..went and saw Branson info, yikes glad we left when we did.

Nashville flooding looks terrible, we will be cautious, leaving about 7am tomorrow mornimg, heading that way..have tickets for grand ole Opry, won't take chances

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, sure hope your feeling better soon!
Enjoy your trip Betty, sure hope the weather is good for you.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Everyone sure did enjoy their meal tonight, walked Bourbon Street but had to come back to hotel..got to tell you, mega/mega pain, keep telling myself a couple more days..I'm hard on my body, you got to know if I'm not out kibitzing something is wrong so...will give myself a bit of a break.

Watched a bit of weather news re Nashville..doesn't seem too promising, no sense worrying, we have to head north regardless, will make a judgement call based on news I hear tomorrow afternoon.

Who else is getting storms??

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Betty, they call Las Vegas sin city. Anyone that calls Las Vegas sin city has not been down Bourbon street in NOLA.

Please be safe and get well. If need be, go to a doctor or clinic.

Everyone, angels being sent you way to help with your successful progress.

Finally cooling down in Las Vegas. Only 97 today and was around 85 at 5pm. 85 is perfect weather in the Southwest.

I went to the dermatologist today. Skin cancer specialist. Many of these doctors in the Southwest. I had 6 areas burned off with nitrogen. But better than I expected. Nothing on my back. Two areas on my left foot h wants to keep n eye on. Back of calf, neck and feet are primary areas for melanoma. Having lived in the desert for 70 years, need an annual visit just to be sure everything is good. Patient in waiting room are scary. Large parts of noses, ears, chins gone because of skin cancer. Use your sun screen.

Hugs, Sharon

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hugs and positive thoughts for those feeling unwell.
Re the INR situation .. I'd be nervous with 7mmol .. however, Lorna's does go up when she has a beer or two, but, not that high. She takes coumadin everyday and has her finger poked for her INR every 3-4 weeks, she stays away from DARK greens, ie Broccoli, kale, spinach .. and, was also told POTATO chips can make the INR change. When Lorna's gets over 3.5mmol they give her an injection of blood thinner into her belly (sting or what, I had 8 of'em while in hospital and have one week left on a blood thinner)
For peace of mind, I'd have it checked, altho, being that it's higher, the blood is thinner ...

Karen, UTIs (in women) are easy to Dx. Burning, frequency .. if you don't have those 2 symptoms I'd be suspicious it was NOT a UTI.
Doubtless they've given you an antibiotic to 'cover' themselves .. frustrating!

Sharon .. I can imagine that the folks sitting in the waiting area must present as totally scary!! Have a dear friend who lives in AZ (Phoenix and Prescott). He's had several excisions, specially his head.
I have to admit, I am VERY bad at not using sunscreen .. guess it's because our SUNNY and HOT days are few and far between, BUT, believe it or else, it's the WINTER it's worn a lot .. out skiing with the sun glaring off the snow.
I do hope all your 'areas' do well.

BETTY!!! Please take care of you (HUGS) you need to feel better than finefor the trip home to Canada. Just perused the weather channel, some inclement weather down south to be sure !!!
Enjoy the Grand Ole Opry though :-)

We are settling in for a storm .. THUNDER BAY will stand up to it's name later this morning.
DH just left to go to a Sportsmens show about 300 miles west of here in Dryden Ontario. He and 2 of his buds have a table at it .. he loves going to these events, I went twice, was as interesting as watching bread go stale to me ^_^

I MUST MUST MUST increase my BUST .. OOPS, nope, my BUTT .. which means I best get offa here and do my flippin exercises.

Have a perfect day everyone, be safe ..

Morning everyone!
~M~ don't over do it when your doing your exercises! Hope the storms are not too bad for you!
Betty, sure hope your doing better today! Have you tried icing your neck?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sorry to hear you are hurting Betty. Maybe one of the others should drive for a while. Give your shoulders and neck a rest.
I'm still packing!! and Packing. This humidity we are having right now raises the heck with my breathing. I work for ten minutes and sit for twenty!!! Oh well, it will be all over by the end of the month....
Any work on how Ann's babies are doing?

Lyndonville, NY

I looked on Ann & Melissa's FB pages...and no new updates since July 31 on there.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Debbie, I've been wondering about the twins as well .. I guess perhaps NO news is GOOD news ?
No doubt Betty will update us when she gets home.

Betty, did you ever get/or ask your doc for 'flexeril' .. awesome stuff for severe muscle spasms and pain .. when my back acts up it's almost sure fire to keep the pain at bay. BUT (always that BUT), you shouldn't drive when you take it. Can cause drowsiness.

Did my exercises, nothing over strenuous, thing is, if I slough off, when the physio comes this Tuesday, she'll catch it in a heartbeat !!

Gonna try to get outside without having to add too many layers of clothing .. dang wind is from the NORTH, never a good thing ..
Lorna wants to use her walking poles, I just want some 'outside time'.

Toodles

~M~

PS Have included pics of this years Hibiscus and one of the DayLillies.
Poor Hibiscus has proved to be hearty in the cold nights!! The DAYLilly pic says 2011 .. can't change the date on my dang camera !!! Techie I am NOT !!

Had supper then off to the Grand Ole Opry..Lordy, we almost all fell asleep but that didn't stop the girls from wanting to head downtown to do music row...was great entertainment..thought I'd treat the girls so drone to the Parthenon, certainly something to see..just got in, 1:30 isn't late enough for them, they just ordered a pizza

I think I shall just fall asleep, tired/tired, just wanted you all to know we are ok..

"M" great that you are starting to get out to enjoy some time in the yard..will be on the lookout for flexeril, you know what I mean when I say not a day goes by that there isno pain...

Jokenna, how cute..and you thought of me. Lol

Barb, got to say this trip confirmed I'm not moving south..just not enjoyable having these temps and humidity..keeping my snow

Sharon, can't imagine that the Vegas strip could be any worse than Bourbon, however Music row was last night..talk about young people having fun, then there was a few old ones to. Lol

Oh/ oh girls want breakfast..off I go

We are off to Gaylord hotel for a few hours then heading north

Enjoy your day

If you check the time you will see there is little sleep going on here,

Hurrah ..be home tomorrow

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Godspeed Betty and crew on your trip back ..
I, too, would be hard pressed to ENJOY the southern temps 24/7 .. a couple of days at a time is WAY good enough for me !!
Temp today will be 23C=76F perfect weather.

Somewhere along the way (Prolly the docs office on Thurs) I picked up a (so far) little chest cold .. sounds like my voice has dropped 3 octaves !!
Am sure it'll take off quickly ..

DH is doing well with his buds at the Sportsmens show .. good turnout.

Off to open the link and checkout my FBook page

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! That little girl is just way too CUTE, quite the little video, thanks for sharing ^_^

Glad to hear your all having fun Betty. Please get some sleep before driving home. Are you stopping at Cookies place?
When you get that flexeril, make sure you only take it at bed time. It will put you to sleep.
Susan our prayers have been answered for your job! So glad to hear your got hired.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Glad your trip has been a good one with lots of fun, Betty. Be safe on the drive home.

Susan, That is such great news. I know you are resting easier.

Hope everyone has a calm happy weekend.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Jean! How are you doing?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good Morning LK.Doing better, Thanks. Neurologist has released me...don't see her again until next year. Still have reg visits with Family Dr and Physical Therapy twice a week, and the vertigo issue is still not resolved, but all in all I am, considering what it could have been, doing better than any of them expected.

Ocean Springs, MS

Congrats, Susan, on your job! Prayers answered!

Been trying to catch up. I love New Orleans, but I don't care for Bourbon Street. After living with two ex-husbands who drank and being around drunks in our previous home, I just can't handle being around people like that. Not to say everyone there is a drunk, just saying I avoid it.

Betty, y'all should have stayed in NOLA and watched the Saints play! LOL They won their first pre-season game last night at the Superdome! YES!

Hoping everyone is doing well. My colitis has flared up and I've been trying to eat/drink what I can. Feel weak but it will pass.

Wishing all a beautiful day! ♥

Lyndonville, NY

Susan, doing the HAPPY DANCE for you! WoooHoo! Great news!!!

Betty & gals, drive/ride safe!! Weather up this way is fine and sunny, no rain.

Waving good morning and Happy Weekend to everyone.

DH has me working still. He is trying to clear a leach line in the basement....which means the tree in the front grew into the drainage system...and I may very well loose my tree. The "idiots" that came through from State last year trimmed it so much on one side...it is now leaning into the house also. A mighty maple on top of my house is not what I want. But we may no longer have a choice.

Enjoy your day
Debbie

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

YAY Susan! Tell us about your new job!

Debbie, bad news about the tree. Dang. We've lost 9 Ash trees and it's so sad. They're huge ones, too. Couple in my shade bed that will have to come down eventually. Sigh....it will probably be a mess and I'll lose plants in there, too.

Can hardly wait to see if Betty and the girls really will stop by. So excited. I know once they head north, they probably don't want to do any side trips, but I'm only one mile from 75!

LK, hot down your way????

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It is 94 right now, supposed to be at least 100 today! Sorry about all the trees falling!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Ouch. That's hot!!

What happened to the "Extras" where you could get addresses? I can't find it anymore.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

When DG did the updates they took it away, but they keep saying they will put it back.
Here ya go, if you Google Dave's garden address exchange you can find it.

http://davesgarden.com/address_exchange/

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Thank you very much LindaKay. I needed that!!!! ^_^

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Getting close to nearly almost human again. Managed to get upstairs for a shower, I'm sure everyone will be grateful. Really pooped me out.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I am sitting on the back patio and it is currently 80 degrees. Was 70 but starting to warm up. I think this is our last week of triple digits and then we start our cool down. September and October are absolutely beautiful in the desert Southwest.

I had more to say but my battery is on low and laptop will shut off.

So glad about the new job. When you strt the new job, start looking for a job. It is always easier to find a job when you have a job. I know it sounds crazy but always keep your eyes open for opportunity.

Betty, I think Vegas is mild compared to Bourbon Street. No one would be allowed to walk on the strip falling down drunk. They would get a Drunk While Walking and put in jail until they sobered up. There is actually three motor homes that have been transformed into clinics that feed individuals oxygen to sober them up. I think the charge is $150. The cost would sober me up. They also have, in the same place, a hydrating area to infuse fluids. All run by doctors. Cash and no insurance companies to hassle with.

Hugs to all. Be well everyone. Sharon. (Remember, no humidity here in Las Vegas.)

Lyndonville, NY

Joyce, did your Ash trees get that bug? There is some bug going around here that is eating all the ash trees, bores inside and that is the end of the tree! We have all these purple "bags" which look like kites, hanging from them all thoughout
the surrounding counties. No one is even allowed to transport firewood in from
other areas for fear of this bug.

They say it weakens them so much also, and they fall easier in storms.

http://www.agri.ohio.gov/eab/

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Yes, Debbie, we have the "Emerald Ash Borer". It has killed nearly all the ash trees in this area. Even people I know who treated for it still lost their trees. It's so sad. Now there is a new bug coming and it will hit a bunch of other trees. Of the ones it targets, I have two kinds. My mimosa and my maples. AcK!!!! LEAVE US ALONE!!!!!

Lyndonville, NY

Joyce, they are up here also. And we are surrounded by maples, that is the one that probably is coming down in our front yard before it falls on the house. But the
street and area is just full of them...green & red!

Love mimosa! I hope it sure doesn't hit.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Debbie, maybe you can just bypass where the tree has blocked the pipe with new pipe. I do that with irrigation lines. But irrigation lines are not that deep.

I went in and got my charger.

So glad you could get a shower. Nothing feels better than a shower when you have not be able to have one. Unless it laying down in bed after working your butt off all day long.

My son and his family will be here this afternoon. They are return from the beach at San Diego. His birthday was Monday. He turned 50. Mine was Sunday I turned 71. His wife's Heather birthday is the 28th she will be 38 and Hannah, oldest granddaughter is coming down from Provo and her birthday is the 29th. She will be 22. She just graduated from college and got a job with benefits. So we are having a family party at our daughters tonight to celebrate the 4 birthdays. Then Todd heads back to Spokane and his family stays for a week.

I had vertigo for close to three years. I ended up in the hospital because of heart failure, long story, due to a virus. My lungs had completed filled with fluid and I was unable to breathe. When they gave me shots and got all the fluids out of my body, my vertigo went away. I know, weird, but true. I had also been going to physical therapy for this biting pain on the outside of my right shoulder. Physical therapy was over a years time. Same thing, when the fluid was gone, so was the pain in my right shoulder. Kind of a nerve burning type pain. After two years my heart was declared good and I now see the cardiologist once a year as of May of this year. They are still scratching their heads trying to determine what actually caused the heart to malfunction.

The brain is a weird organ. If it feels threatened, it starts shutting down everything else to survive.

I will talk at you all later. Have a great day. Sharon

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Debbie, cross post.

My mimosa has been blooming all summer. It is a messy tree but so beautiful.
