Here in the group trades forum, our chat thread continues to have the date/time/zone bleeding across from the member's information box in the left column:

Size of text area, social media space and cut-off posts
Amanda, those are going to occur wherever anyone has maxed out the characters for their location and/or the date/time string is extra-long (months like September are the culprits - it won't matter what year the post was made, so old posts will - for now - have this problem if either of those situations occur.)
For those who have dialed up their browser's zoom size, his problem will be more frequently seen.
Here's why, in a nutshell:
1. The text in that box doesn't wrap. (I'd say it's bad programming design, but I'm not a programmer, so that would be only my opinion.)
2. The font sizes are not standardized in that box. Your name and the date/time font are larger and seem to fluctuate based on the font settings you're using. Again, probably not the best way to approach it from a design standpoint, but that's coming from someone who admittedly does not program.
We have some changes "staging" that we are testing out on various browsers and settings to try to find/fix any hiccups before we roll them out. If they work as designed, they should address this issue.
Well I hope that now we are all in agreement about the cause of the problem ( bad programming) a quick solution with good programming can be found.
I would love to know the average age of the DG member and know if that was taken into consideration. I can't help but feel the average age would be well over 40, and larger text areas and larger type would have been considered a priority! I am still scratching my head over the implementation of fixed text boxes and the resulting hard to read small print. That however is just based on all the complaints I have read, if you are young and able to read the fine print in legal documents and on medicine bottles then I guess you would have a lot fewer problems there.
Edited just to add that in "No Style" the text boxes are great and the text size is also great(on my computer).

Zoom percent for me doesn't matter, even at 25% I can still see a run over.

It is the same for me, no matter what my zoom Is I do still have the overlap. That is just one reason I go to "No style" when I start reading threads, that gets rid of the overlap and the small text size.
I changed the font size on my browser to medium so the date does not go into the next window. Then, of course, I had to set the font size on the bottom of my screen to 150%....with the scroll bar visible.
Sorry Terry, I'm not going to change all the settings in my computer for this. When you all are done messing around, let us know and I will see then what I have to do.
Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me. Just trying to add some humor. Hugs, Sharon
Happy Birthday from me too!!
Hap
Yes I had forgotten about my text size being set to Largest, changing that does get rid of the overlap, and then increasing the zoom causes me to have to scroll also. But, once I get the zoom set at 200 I can read the text OK.
Same here seed, just put mine to medium and my zoom at 125 and it is just right. Looks good on my other sites too!
Happy Birthday, Sharon!!! ♫♪ (sorry, a little late)
Hey, there's another way to think about all of this...look how much we're all learning about what we can do with our computers!! I'm serious. I even finally learned how to do a screenshot (Thanks Seedfork).
My warped mind says...in a way...this is kind of fun (please don't all bombard me with rotten eggs). I'm speaking for myself. Know one else has to agree.
No rotten eggs from me Nuts, there are way worse things than a quirky web site to worry about!
Ahem. I will start a new thread momentarily.
Before I do, please note that I appreciate the back-and-forth sidebar conversations. However, for the sake of those who are waiting for a status update on fixes, let's all try to refrain from posting to these particular threads unless you are reporting anew problem or issue.
New thread here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1328188/
Please only post NEW technical problems you encounter (which will hopefully be none, zero, nada, zip :-).
