The problem with view is every time you go to a new page you have to do it again.
Size of text area, social media space and cut-off posts
I haven't measured any of these columns etc. but if we did, I would be willing to bet we aren't even getting half of our screen to use. This is disgusting. When we type it is coming out one way, maybe, well you see it, BUT, when you read it, even this is cut almost in half.
All I need to do is scroll, scroll, scroll & scroll.
Nothing is cut off, just hide.
Type only halfway across & it won't be
cut off.

There shouldn't be any need to type halfway across. If you see posts with cutoff text, please let us know exactly where.
Nuts - Thanks for the happy birthday wish.
Congratulations on your screen shot.
We're having trouble with "Coffee and....." on the Parking lot form.
I can avoid the date time overlap by reducing the "text size" option in IE10 to any choice but "largest". "Large" goes right to the edge of the message box and "Medium gives it a better look". Changing the "Text Size" option does not seem to change the message box text much at all, mostly the date time box is affected. Still even when I select zoom 150% the message box text is still too small.
I love how it all looks when I select "No Style" for the menu, with "Text Size set to Larger. Unfortunately it does not affect this message reply box, so I am having to strain to see in order to type this message.

Why is it when I place my cursor in the date time box I get what appears to be a scan, followed by a "Deal Finder" add?
I have yet to find the date and time since all of these changes.
Is it not right there with your name, location, zone etc? Right next to your post?
I didn't realize you were referring to the posters info box. I recall there was a date and time on the home page, at the top that displayed the current date and time.

I've found the easiest way to read small type and overlapping text is to cut & paste it into Word and read it normally. I have to REALLY want to read a post to do that...
The reverse for making a post by typing it in Word, then cut and paste. Oh well....
podster - would clicking on "quote", under the post number at the left, be of any help in being able to read the post instead of cutting and pasting?
That's a very good suggestion, Arlene! Since it puts the post into your own message box it does increase the text size a little.
Scrolling, cutting and pasting, adjusting settings -- you guys have way more patience than I do! All I'm doing is popping in occasionally to see if anything is fixed.
Not only patience, but time. Even tho I am retired, I do not want to sit on this computer all day. Don't know how folks do just this site and facebook etc. too. Amazing. much faster than I am.
Terry are they going to put the address exchange and the extra's tab back on DG?
Thanks!
Is there any way to keep "No Style" selected in IE10, that is the best way by far I have found to view, but I have to keep resetting it!
Seedfork ~ Yeah, me too! That would be great!
For those of you who are grappling with font issues in the smaller text area, can you give me some examples of sites that you do not have to adjust your font settings and they display fine in both the text input area and the reading area? These can be any forum/community type site, not just gardening related.
When I go to All Things Plants I have my zoom set to 150 and my text set to largest, and my style is set at default. I have to make no adjustments. I have no wide blank empty margins, no overlapping text, not scrolling, etc. etc. etc.
Any other sites that you frequent and don't have to make any adjustments? What I'm looking for are examples that also have fixed width text areas but you aren't having problems with scrolling or large text overlapping the edges of the box.
Terry, as I have said before this is the only site I regularly go to that I recall having to make any adjustments too. I never even knew "style" existed, before. I have never had these problems before. No other web sites I go to have these problems, I am sorry I don't know what else to say. Let me put it this way, if I find another web site that I have to make adjustments to, I will come back here and post it. I promise.
Sorry - I guess I wasn't clear. If you frequent several other sites and DON'T have to make adjustments, those are the ones I'm looking for.

Terry can you give me a list of some of the sites that have a "fixed width text area" and I will go to them and see if I have a problem with them. I don't know how to tell.
Oh, I'm sorry, it just hit me what you are saying about adjustments. You meant no adjustments to the computer at all, not just the one site. Sorry, I can't see any site with out adjustments, I just don't have these problems with them. I would like to just be able to "set them and forget them".
I don't think that is too clear, I set my settings on my computer, then I don't have to adjust them any more till I come to this site is what I am trying to say.

No, just the other sites you visit.

On the iPad mini, without wxpanding anything, these seem to have larger print than this thread, especially in the box where I am typing this message. Is this the kind of information you were looking for?
All three sites have no scroll bar on the bottom.
Terry ~ I don't know if this is of any importance, but figured I'd mention it and let you decide.
I noticed while searching through some older threads...from a year or two ago...that some of the Date/Times are running over into the text box. Why this seemed odd is that the more recent continuations of the same threads didn't have this problem.
I wonder if most or all of the older threads are doing this (with some browsers) and if so why only the older ones?
Since you might already be aware of it, I didn't bother to do a screen shot or post a link. If you'd like me to do that, let me know.

Thanks - that is on the right track. All of them , especially the last one, appear to have non-fixed width areas. How do sites such as Facebook or eBay (not an app, the actual site) appear on your iPad?
Nuts, I wondered the same thing and noticed that because the type in the date and time is so large that when the month is March or April and a double digit date (10 -31) and anytime between 10 and 12 that those dates will run over. ie Aug 3, 2012 3:24 PM fits in a smaller space than
March 17, 2013 10:19 AM
The same thing happens with long user locations like
BajaBlue : Rancho Santa Rita, TX (Zone 8a) or
Taters : (Linda Kay) Del Rio, TX (Zone 9a) or if Taters was a zone warmer : (Linda Kay) Del Rio, TX (Zone 10 a)
If I increase my text size +1 BajaBlue and Taters Zones will always over run into text box along with the date/time over run.
Happy mentioned earlier in this thread some problems on the "coffee and...." Thread in the Parking Lot forum I, too had run over on page one but not on page 2 - 49!
Terry for me any site other than here that I visit whether on my Nook Tablet or my laptop is fine. Still getting cut off and run over on all threads and home pages. I even set my font to smaller and no change. Doesn't matter the font size or zoom.
facebook
garden web
all things plants
cubits
ebay
craigs list
Yes, I have the same issues, Calif._Sue..

Same here.

And so I am assuming you have to scroll back-and-forth on sites such as Craigslist, eBay and Facebook? (When I moved my I.E. zoom to anything larger than 125% I had to scroll on those sites in order to see the entire text area.)
