DG has a new look!

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

Sorry, for the life of me I can't remember which forum or what the message was I was trying to reply to. I do remember trying a couple of times. If it comes to me or happens again I will make a note and I will post back.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Texasbelle, ALLRIGHT!! That did it. Thank you. Everything fell into place. I even have a banner now. Wonderful. Thank you again!!

Mid Gulf Coast, TX(Zone 9b)

Jnette - glad I could help....sorry I missed the step last night....wish someone could help with my IE problem.....but I installed Firefox on my work computer and use it only for DG!! Mae Belle

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

LOL, Work computer and only for DG?? I just lost half of the banner. The part with the flower on it. But, I'm not complaining.

edited to add: NOPE, it is back. Crazy computer anyway. Wish I could help you with IE.

What flower in the banner? I have a snippet of fern on one side and part of a leaf on the other side and a caterpillar. Patti

Terry, if you will read my post closely, I said 'it appears' that the admin is... I apologize if you were offended (it was not specific to any one person), but that is and remains my opinion, no correction is needed. I also note that a farewell post I left in the PNW forum has mysteriously disappeared. It would have been courteous to have given me notice of what needed to be censored. After being a member for many years myself, I simply wanted to say goodbye to my gardening friends. Ah well...

Everett, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm not sure these are both new reports, but they apply to IE 7. No doubt anything that old is hard;y worth supporitng, but IT at work insists on it.

It was quite frustrating until I was able to resotre access via FireFox.

1. When i click to enlarge a photo in a forum, the photo does not appear. It seems to be replaced by a narrow, empty, horizontal box about big enough for one line of text.

2. These apear just to the right of the middle of the screen, hanging DOWN instead of along the top, often maiking it hard to click on "new posts":
HOME
COMMUNITIES
GARDEN SHOWCASE
PRODUCTS SOURCES

I had to individually delete DG cookies in FireFox, to be able to log in. So it's not just that we must "allow cookies", we must delete the old one.

Mid Gulf Coast, TX(Zone 9b)

Those are the same problems I am having with IE9 on my computer at work. I fixed Firefox on my home computer and it was fine until this evening when I logged on at home.....the individual threads in the forums are all squished together and I cannot enlarge pictures. GRRRRR

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I'm sure the kinks will all get worked out eventually and everyone will be happy. It's obvious the admins. are working overtime to get it all in order and functioning to fit everyone's needs and desires.
Besides, for the measley fee we pay for yearly membership (pennies per day...) this is still the best gardening website out there.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Rick & texasbelle, that is true - you have to delete your cache, and allow the site to re-set them. It's frustrating for everyone. Admins deal with it just like every member. However, when you get the old cleared out, things should right themselves. If it's an option, try temporarily switching browsers to alleviate some of the pain :-).

What I'm seeing now is the result of some changes we made late today and any text associated with a photo now appears beneath the photo, which is definitely an improvement over having the text squeezed next to the image. If you're seeing no photos or compressed text, it's time to clear things out (again.)

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Well, I have my fingers crossed that mine is fixed. Thank you Texasbelle. It appears to be good. Firefox.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Few, if any, glitches seem to have surfaced with Chrome, which is my favorite browser of late. So people might want to give that a go.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I haven't had many problems and I'm also using Chrome.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Terry, I really dislike having the text at the bottom of the photo rather than along the side because if there are 5 notes to go with 5 photos, I have to scroll up & down to get to the text that describes the photo & vice versa. So that is a step backward for me, was so much easier when the text tracked alongside. I have a huge touch-screen monitor that didn't blink at the space needed to have the photos/text side by side; is that not par for the course these days?

Also, I just fired up IE9 to see how it was coping and wow ... problemz. Even after going through all basic steps to reset the display parameters, they persist. Luckily, I could just go back to Chrome & not devote any more time to the issue.

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

Just discovered a new problem, maybe you can pass it on to the tech team. Photos aren't showing up in my journal anymore. I have to click on view to see any of them.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

New problem: I can't click on the photos on threads to enlarge the thumbnail pics. They won't appear!

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

As RickCorey noted above:

Quoting:
When i click to enlarge a photo in a forum, the photo does not appear. It seems to be replaced by a narrow, empty, horizontal box about big enough for one line of text.

This just started happening to me. I request assistance to pursue a solution, as I have so far been unable to resolve this. I think I use IE7.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

They don't open for me either. All I get is the text.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Unfortunately, your set up isn't yet the norm, and it was necessary to move the text to top or bottom in order it to display in a legible format for those who don't have a large-ish monitor.

Joy, we had to drop the column with the RIDs (and photos) from the summary page in order to make that page navigable.

However, the images are still available when you are viewing the details of that entry. I wish we could have preserved the images but we needed to drop something in order to make sure the links were accessible and not cut off.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

ViburnumValley, Rick_Corey and Quilter5bdsr (and anyone else who is getting odd formatting or is unable to click and enlarge images.

The first step is to clear your cache. You may also have to clear your cookies.

Here's a link that explains how to do that in various browsers:

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

Pictures are not showing despite clearing the cache and rebooting. What's up with this newest feature?

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I cleared the cache, and pics. aren't showing either! Tried firefox, and it's now equally "centered" as with IE7.

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

I also now cannot see photos even after clearing my Cache.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Dropping photo in journal main page would not have been my choice. The column that I use the least is "entries". Picture is worth a thousand words.

Happy to have readable text under photo. Patti

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Hah, there must be a contest b/w different browsers? Now I can't open pics. with IE, but I can with firefox. This is like a walking in a circle kinda problem. I'm going to gardening, instead.

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

When I click on "next pic" the screen seems to shift back and forth just a smidge them stays on the post instead of going to the picture. Its like it is trying to do something but doesn't know where to go.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Lily_love. Best plan! Me too. Patti

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

When in a thread, you click on
" go to new/unread : it LEAVES
the thread completely and goes
to another unrelated section.

I am unable to do very much of
anything on the site except fret.

Anyone tried ie 10 ?

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

Yes, IE 10 is what I use.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow...Now I, also, am not able to enlarge the pics in threads!! I had no problems last night with that. It just started this morning.

I cleared my browser, including cookies and no luck. As with everyone else, all I see is the text that should be under the pic, but no pic.

I so look forward to the pictures that other members post. Bummer!!

Terry?? The techs had to have done something different between last night and this morning. Whatever it was it took all our enlarged pictures away.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh, No! The enlarged picture issue exists in PlantFiles as well!

I went to a plant with lots of pictures and starting clicking on the thumbnail pics. The main one enlarged and I found one other that also did, but all the others had the same problem as the pics in threads.

I wonder how wide-spread this is in the site? Is it everwhere with thumbnail pics?

I'm using IE. Is this problem only with IE users or is it happening with other browsers as well?

I hope this one can get fixed soon. For me, it takes away at least 50% (or more) of the reason I use DG.

Charlotte, NC(Zone 7b)

Everything WAS working perfectly yesterday, but today I cannot view enlarged photos in posts on IE10. They do appear on Chrome.

I have cleared cache and history.

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

Two steps forward, one step back. Seems like they would test all flavors of browsers before going to production.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I am also having the problem with not being able to enlarge pictures. And on dmail, the right side is cut off. I've cleared the cache....

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Hey Nuts, (Happy B'Day by the way!) and others Here is a thought....

When you opened DG yesterday it was probably before the tech changes to pics and script below instead of beside. So your cache referred to pre change, too. and 'everything worked'

When you shut down DG or computer or browser, your cache may have automatically 'cleared' so that the pages you get now are the new 'fangled' version adjusted yesterday afternoon.

I'm not clearing my cache until I get some definitive word that the new is done being 'fangled' with as I am at the 'most everything works now' phase. (Does DG Facebook page ever alert to glitches?)

My clicked on thumb nails do still appear and I also would prefer text on right. Once I was able to get things 'centered' in Firefox. the right hand column cutting off was no longer a problem.

And a caution, not all 'changes' we try on our computers are reversible! Having the good sense or good grace to know when to stop or take a break is as much of a virtue as persistence or the courage to try new things.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

For trouble shooting purposes, would it help to list our browser, version and operating system first and then report?

I am
Firefox 2.0/ Mac 10.4 on dial up, monitor size 15"

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Bear with us...we are rolling out some tweaks and changes based on the error reports Melody and I have been passing along.

It could be a bit of a bumpy day here at DG, so if you can get out and garden for a bit, that may be the best place to be today (Mel and I will be here, holding the reins and giving feedback to the tech team.)

When we have reached the point where no more changes are expected for a while, I will start a new thread to help everyone work through any remaining issues.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Thank You, Coleup, for your good wishes!!

From what some of the other members are saying, it appears it's only happening with IE, both new and older versions. Whatever they did happened between last night and this morning and you're probably correct about the change to the script below the pic. I don't remember the script placement being any different last night when I looked at pics.
