Nevermind, found what I was looking for! Had a blonde moment!

DG has a new look!
I still can't find "extras" anywhere...
Thanks for returning the search boxes. I found how much I used them (or maybe just wanted to when they weren't there) LOL
Just did a Ctrl F search on this thread and didn't find this mentioned so will ask.
I just encountered my first problem with Dmail. It was necessary to scroll back and forth. Startled me at first as I thought it was Halfmail.
When the rest of the site is working correctly, what do I do to correct the mail system? Thanks, Kristi

I guess I'm not the only one who can't find it then. :)

Kristi, is it just one message or all? Mine works fine - no scrolling; the text area is the same as the forums.
CG - Try this link for "Extras": http://davesgarden.com/extras.php
Thanks greenthumb99.
The Extras area has not yet been restored, but that link will take you to it until we get things restored.
- Investigate why some users are having to scroll back-and-forth and/or their right-hand side is cut off.
Is there supposed to be white space on either side of the forums?
Yes. It takes some getting used to after years of having a very full screen, but it's pretty standard across most websites. It's easier on readers to not have to scroll back-and-forth.
It's not mystery: the two are related. Users are having to scroll or are having text get chopped off because of the choice to go to a fixed width layout. Fixed width layouts are incompatible with lower screen resolutions like tablets, for any users who use the browser zoom features to make the text larger in their screen and for many accessibility options in operating systems. (This is easy enough to replicate -- simply zoom the text and/or reduce the size of your browser window to less than 1024 pixels wide.)
I like the new styling but in terms of usability and cross device compatibility it's a big step backward.
At the other end, for those of us with larger screens or higher resolutions, having just a tiny column of actual content on the right side is very awkward and uncomfortable to read.
Thanks greenthumb99.

Thanks, Terry. Good to know.
I'm sooo sorryTerry..I have been to hasty with my comment..of course the new look needs further time to ripen and to get all the bugs out. Please take your time..you come first and thirsty plants..!

I agree. Hope this is addressed or maybe none of us should ever send long postings with photographs. Patti
saya, no need to apologize - we want the kinks worked out as much or more than anyone, I promise!
patti, the text box width and photo issue will be resolved - it's pretty obvious that is an unintended consequence of the narrower text boxes.
All, please know these are issues that did not present themselves in staging. That may due to us not rigorously testing for these things, or the sad reality that no matter how thorough and diligent you are, you can't always anticipate every situation or problem.

Yes ~ it is all the emails. Not much of the right side is cut off.
I attempted to lessen the size of the print and it didn't change having to scroll.
As all the other forums work correctly, I hesitate to alter the computer settings... Kristi
Terry ~ Welcome back & Happy Monday!
With all the posts over the weekend this may have been missed. I don't see any link toTag pages. I'm wondering if this should be added to the GlitchList or is it only missing for some of us?
Thanks!
nutsaboutnature, I'm sorry - i should have caught that one and responded to you sooner. Unfortunately, I am pretty sure tags are being phased out as they weren't used much and that feature was not well-designed, which made it difficult to navigate.
Terry, thanks for responding.
What will happen to all the articles & posts that I (and other members) have saved?
You know, I was never actually able to use the Tags. Every time I tried to go to the page that had them all listed, my computer locked up so badly that I'd have to shut it down and reboot it. But I did use my own personal "saved" list. Is there another way to do this? Is that what Favorites are all about?
Tags are still accessible. You will find it on your member page.
Hi podster ~ Yes, at the moment the ones we've already saved are still accessible, but Terry said they're going to be phased out.

Oh, I apologize. I thought you were asking for a link to the Tag pages. My mistake.
tagging new pages is gone. I'm not sure exactly what will happen (if anything) to your existing tags but I will find out. It probably won't be as high a priority as the column width and image width issues, so please bear with us as we work through those first.
podster, not a problem...I really appreciate you trying to help! Thanks!
Terry, no rush. I hope it didn't sound that way. I sooo appreciate everything you guys are dealing with. Heck, I sooo appreciate that you even respond to all our questions/comments/complaints/crying/threats/hand-wringing/hair-pulling......

I am using IE9 and have cleared out all my temporary internet files, caches, passwords, cookies and the dishwasher.....STILL have the HOME, COMMUNITIES, etc. vertically about 2/3 of the way over to the right instead of horizontally like it should be. I use Foxfire at home and it is perfect. HELP!!!!!
Texas, how did you get your Foxfire perfect????
Jnette - I'm at work now....I'll let you know when I get home and can go through the steps again.

What happened to the "Threads I have Started" and such? Or am I just missing them somewhere? I want to look back on something I had ID'd 2 years ago?
haighr ~ If you go to My Info there should be a column on the left with two headings (at least this is what I see on my screen).
One says Your Actions and one says Actions. Under "Your Actions" you should see the Posts you've writtten and under "Actions" should be the threads you've started. I think it says something like "View threads haighr has started".
Edited to say: I just clicked on your user name and your threads were under "Action", but it may look different to someone else clicking on your name than it will if you go to your own page.

Haighr if I click on my own name, the list of threads I have started is in second box titled Actions.
If I click on your name the threads you have started is the 4th option down.

Your member page is exactly as it has always been - as far as I know we haven't changed anything on that page (same links, same order as always.)
It seems like it wasn't that long ago that we went thru this before, my, time flies.
Got it, had a blond moment again and didn't notice the little "cheat sheet" at the top with the My Info dropdown. That is what I could not find!
Thanks everyone.
Yes,1lisac, it does seem not long ago. I remember everyone went crazy until things got straightened out and things have been perfect since. Now they are complaining about losing the stuff that they didn't want about 10 years ago. They'll get this all put together in a flash, just like last time.
YOU GO GIRLS!!!!!
Texasbelle, wasn't it this thread that you told me how to fix it and I wrote back that I did it step by step and it didn't work? What happened to those posts? Jeanette
Jnette - I sent the instructions to you in a Dmail. I just read back through them and realized I skipped telling you to click on "Network" under the Advanced tab. Try that and let me know if it works for you.
Mebbe I am just impatient..... but I am done everything
everyone has suggested, including waiting days for
things to settle into place.
There are words appearing on top of other words
No place to begin new threads.
Pics in plant files don't appear
No direct ability to maneuver from one functionto another (ie: from forums to plant files or similar.
The text is very tiring
There are other issues but the above are pretty general for most of us.
I am one of your vision-impaired members. I dint have the luxury of switching browsers because only ie has a magnifier.
Just as others have reported, for me, the message box is too wide, and I have to scroll back n forth continually to read even simple short messages.
Was this chage screened thru any focus groups ?
In Texas we have a saying, "if it aint broke, don't fix it"
Well, its broke now ! I want my beautiful, old DGback !
Briefly scrolled through this thread in response to wondering if something had happened to my own computer, or if there was a major change going on within DG. It appears to be the latter, and I'm not fond of the look so far, let alone all the bugs that need to be worked out. I agree with BajaBlue that there is just too much text in one place (for me, that is on the left side overlapping everything below it), and some things being all caps and others not is disconcerting to my eye/mind. I suppose I could wait to see if this all gets sorted out, but it appears that the administration is purposely going away from anything familiar to the original DG, so I'll pass on my August renewal. I do wish the best of luck to everyone remaining - it was a fun ride while it lasted.
I do apologize for the frustrations. We are working hard to work the bugs out (it's a big site, and it can take some time to iron all the wrinkles.) First and foremost is getting search boxes restored, along with dealing with some pages that are too-wide.
For those who have customized your browsers or monitors to accommodate special needs, you have my sincerest sympathies and my commitment to work with you to try to find solutions. With a community as large and diverse as DG, we aren't going to be able to program in a way that takes into consideration every specific need or physical limitation. We are here to offer suggestion and solutions, and we are counting on you to work with us to try various things until you find something that fits your specific circumstance.
bonehead, I have to take exception to your assertion that we are "purposely going away from anything familiar to the original DG." Melody and I have been members here since January 2001. Both she and I have worked at length with the graphics designer to honor as many of the original design elements as we could, while also working to improve on some outdated navigation, graphics and color schemes. We know that any changes we make will never meet with 100% approval, but your comment is really off-base and I can't let it pass without correction. I hope we can win back your trust and confidence, but if not, please know that it's not for lack of trying.
This is not aimed at bonehead, whom I like ... (just feel the need to say that because of the proximity of our posts) ... But the "old DG" was pretty clunky, idiosyncratic & poorly organized. In fact, it is the only site in the world on which the home page causes my computer to emit a weird squeal (I'm serious) that is apparently caused by errant code.
So please, Terry & Melody, keep offering us improvements! If people don't know how to use their own computers, they'll have problems no matter what. Yes, we're all getting older but I don't foresee the world slowing down any.
Is anyone noticing a severe time lag going from forum to forum or opening forums? It doesn't happen on every forum but does on Vegetable and New Vegetable gardening and others.
Is any paid member having a problem reading replies in member only forums? The message I get is This is only open to paid members.
I just started having these problems over the weekend.
Sorry for above post. It was error on my part and has been resolved
Thanks to Terry and Melody.

I did have a few problems like that, where I was not allowed to reply. I did get the message about only being open to paid members or something along those lines.

Which forum(s) are you seeing those messages? Over half the forums are available only to paid/subscribing members, and it looks like you do not have a paid subscription.
Yes ~ it is all the emails. Not much of the right side is cut off.

Kristi, is this still a problem (and have you tried clearing your cache since you reported it?)
If so, can you contact the helpdesk here: http://davesgarden.com/helpdesk/forums/
and we'll walk you through sending us a screenshot offline.
