Is your list of blogs still showing over on the left side where the menu is, you know where it says add a tab, etc.
DG has a new look!
JBerger ~ Gosh, I sure hope you didn't think I was including you in my statement about some people saying they're leaving DG. If it sounded like that, I really apologize. I was referring to those people that specifically said they're going to cancel their membership.
I have two good eyes, but I still like to have my page set at 100%. Both my husband and I find this size much easier to read. Right now this is the only site I visit where I have to scroll. We have a 17" monitor.
If you just want to check, though, try zooming your page "out" a little. You should be able to click on PAGE on the tool bar then hold the mouse over ZOOM. Instead of clicking on one of the preset sizes try a custom setting for 90% and see if it centers everything. It does on my computer, but like I said before, I don't like the smaller text even at 90%. I also don't want to have to constantly change the page size every time I go on to DG.
But who knows, maybe they'll still come up with a better solution for us with older monitors.
Good luck with your searching.
I' ve noticed that my pics in plantfiles are now in a different size and altered. Some are just cut of. The lines of my comments are also just cut off..that's a pity. I always have fun to contribute pics to Plantfiles.. but now?
Is your list of blogs still showing over on the left side where the menu is ....
Nutsaboutnature, no problem, I have said I was leaving a dozen times in the past and I am still here. LOL It depends on my mood that day. I live alone and I can't keep kicking the dog, so I take it out on Terry and Melody. LOL
OK down to business....what tool bar are you talking about that I click on. I have Firefox and there is no tools ono there that I know where to look and I can not see tools on my DG toolbar. Please let me know sounds like maybe you have something there. Or, would I change it on IE which I seldom use???????
Lily, maybe others could check their private entries. I went back to 2011 and my private entries were still there. I looked under preferences and did not see any thing there that could cause it, sorry I have no idea what would cause that to happen.
Thanks Seedfork, it's good to know some of us aren't having the same problem as mine. But, why me? Arggggh!
JBerger, I also use Mozilla FireFox and am not particularly computer savvy either.when i am on DG, at the very top of the left hand side of the screen there is a very faint bar that says File, Edit, View...etc. the second to last function is Tools. Click on that, That should get you where you need to be Then, the second to last selection is Page info....hope that helps.
I promise we are continuing to trouble-shoot the pesky things like journals and cut-off photos, etc. But please bear with us...it's Saturday, and it's summer and I've got a garden to water and weed, and I'm sure Melody does too. If you report new stuff today or tomorrow, we will add it to the list of to-do's for Monday.
:-) Enjoy a well-earned weekend.
The moon, I did what you said but there was no place to change the size of the page on my screen. Everything else but that. ??????????????sigh??????????????
Terry, please relax, this stuff will be here Monday I am sure. LOL
I do apologize; my blog didn't "show" because it was disabled! I went through my preference list and "enable" the blog. Sorry all. Have a great weekend.
Lily, I looked at that , but did you public blogs show even though you had the blog disabled? I would thought none of them would have, guess I did learn something today.
In the new DG, my general blog was available to the public eventhough it was disabled. Only the private entries were invisible -- even to my own viewing. I too have learned something new. Thanks for asking Seedfork.
JBerger ~ I use IE (and it's an older version cause we still have XP) so it's different than Firefox.
On IE there's a light Gray "bar" on the top of the screen (called the "tool bar").
On the bottom right of that bar there are some icons, & then "Page" "Safety" "Tools". If you click on Page, down near the bottom it says "Zoom". If you follow the arrow to expand Zoom, there's a list. it says Zoom In, Zoom Out, then a list of Percentages to zoom & then "Custom". Custom allows you to zoom just a little if you want (like 90 or 95%)
My husband once installed Firefox because he needed it to download a particular program. We don't use it much and I'm really not used to it, but I switched over briefly just to see if I could find something similar to the Zoom for you.
It appears if you click on "View" (upper left of your page) it lists Zoom, but I didn't find a way to customize the size. What it shows is something that HoneybeeNC also mentioned in one of her above posts....on your keyboard press "Ctrl +" (both keys at the same time) to increase size and "Ctrl -" to decrease size. When I do that on IE it reduces it to probably about 75%. Most likely you'll find that too small, but it might give you an idea of what DG says the page should look like.
If you can figure out a way to reduce it about 90% it still centers it. For me, I will continue to scroll as I prefer the larger 100% size (unless the techs com up with a fix for our square monitors).
Hope this helps.
FYI, you an adjust your font size for DG (separate from your browser's zoom percentage.) You'll find the font settings under "Preferences."
Terry, what are you doing here?? It's Saturday night...turn off your computer and forget about all of us for a while. Go relax and have some fun!
BTW, Thanks!!
:-)
I spent most of my day re-laying bricks between the front landscape beds and sidewalk. Not exactly relaxing, but it was a productive day. Then I watered all the trees and shrubs we planted this spring, since we didn't get any rain this week. I popped in here to make sure the articles are scheduled for tomorrow and next week, and I'm watching a movie, so it is kind of relaxing. But now I am officially out for the night.
I think the new look is great. And not one display or content issue has presented itself to me, but then I know my hardware, software & monitor inside-out.
For people who are discovering that they can change this or that about their display, please continue to explore those options! Computerz are infinitely changeable, and for every one thing you can do, there are 6 other wayz to accomplish the same thing.
Never be afraid to right-click!
Did we ever get the Address Exchange back anywhere?
CG - Try this link for "Extras": http://davesgarden.com/extras.php
Thanks much, green. Where is Extras located now?
I like the top of the page and the rest of the new features, now that I've cleared my cache and everything comes up normally, but with the new graphics the old fonts and the format for the forums now look clunky and dated. It's kind of like when you redo your kitchen cabinets, and then the rest of the area looks worse by comparison!
Just a comment.
Edited to say, "Oops...my bad...I thought my tagged pages were gone. Found them!"

BTW has anyone figured out how to "Tag" pages? I no longer see the link anywhere. Is this something to add to the "glitchlist"... Terry?
I have fixed all my problems and now I would like to share with you what I did and how completely beautiful everything looks when it is working properly. This is a very good looking place to spend our time. I must say, it was extremely frustrating but we all have different computer set ups and many of us are not computer literate. I am far from up on all the URLs and all that technology but if it is explained as these people here have explained it I can do it. I am sure most of us will be seeing that the problems are with our own browsers. Having said that, Firefox has several little toolbars and for some reason I did not have the toolbar on that would show me the File, edit, View, History, Bookmark, Tools and Help. that one is grey and goes across the top. The one I had was in red and just said Firefox and the box came down and it was not clear where everything was and I could not find anything you were all talking about.
By accident I got into the box where the list of toolboxes are and I clicked on the one toolbar and there it was, just what all of you have been telling me it was. I have been looking for "zoom" to "zoom in" and when I found it I clicked on it and everything changed. Way back in the beginning Terry mentioned try that and since I could not find it I was clicking on the link she gave me but that did not help me because i could still not find the zoom place on my computer. But, on my Firefox it is not under tools, it is under View, so if you are looking for zoom, look under view.....thanks to NutsaboutNature's explanation I am back in business.
That changed everything and then i went back into DG and put my font to 14 to help my sight and it worked great. Next i went back to the main page set up since I had disabled Column 2 thinking it would help, so I enabled Column 2 and it is beautiful.
I can not tell you how simple it is now that I know where to look and thanks to all the people on here that were trying to help me I am so grateful.
My Firefox automatically clears the cache and depending on what update you have, you may have the same problems I have. I have a computer tech that comes to the house and does maintenance. The settings he puts on this computer is for his convenience and I never use them because I do not have to. Therefore, I was totally lost and this has been a real learning experience and I AM SO HAPPY. TERRY...i may just apply for a job with you and Melody now that I am so computer smarter. LOL Thanks to all and just keep on going back and reading what people suggest and I feel sure the same thing will happen to you that happened to me. You will eventually find the right place to CLICK. Now I am going to look around DG and see if everything else is in place.
YAHOO...life is good. Have a wonderful day and thanks again to all of you for helping this old lady.
The moon, I did what you said but there was no place to change the size of the page on my screen. Everything else but that. ??????????????sigh??????????????
Terry, please relax, this stuff will be here Monday I am sure. LOL
JB, before Monday comes while you are catching your breath and resting your tootsies, here are some things to consider and "try'
Sizing/Scrolling Problems post cache clearing
I tried to adjust my page size in FireFox but found success by going to System Preferences: Display in my computer's Operating System. One adjustment to my resolution and my DG pages are now centered and I no longer have to scroll to see entire page. After that, I can use my browser FireFox View to increase or decrease text size on any page I visit as needed but everything remains centered.
The View button in Firefox
also offers another menu option called Page Style . I can opt for Basic Style or No Style. For me, the Basic Style renders DG pages as they were but with a non-functional top third of the page and any navigation buttons there and some overlapping text that used to be presented horizontally, but in New Look are vertical on left hand side. In No Style I get the New Look and most everything (haven't tried it all yet) is operational.
IWhat ever style I start out in on my Welcome page will be the style for all other pages on the site, but I can also switch styles page by page as it suits me. I like the No Style/New Look for threads with lots of pictures (Yes, Greenthumb, they do seem to load faster now) but I prefer the Basic Style/Old Look for threads with more dialogue as for me some lines and less 'space' help me track the conversation much more easily.
Hopefully, I can continue to play with and enjoy the best of both the old and new!
(I'm posting this in Basic Style so to Return to Thread I just posted on I will have to go to View tab in Firefox and select No Style ) See ya.
Yay!! JBerger, that's so great to hear! Glad everything worked out for you.
I am seeing a ghost column going down over the home page.. I havn't been on much since my sister died, and hope this is just not me seeing things double weird..
Coleup, thanks for all the good information. I use Basic also and it works fine. Nothing else needs fixing at the moment. I have some other work to do so I must get out of here for a few hours. Stay cool and keep your eye on the sky. This is going to be another one of those days with unsettled weather so they tell me.
Joeswife, I am sorry for your loss. I am sure someone on here will be able to help you. Just keep trying and asking. Hugs.
Hugs to you Debra.
The changes were working well for me at home, though I had to do a bit of scrolling.
But using a public computer in the Air Canada lounge in Vancouver airport now and at the top of each page is an overlay of what appears to be a drop down menu. This computer is set up with IE. It's only at the top of the page and only bothersome if there isn't much content, but it IS strange.
It says:
Communities
Garden Showcase
Sources
Can't take a screenprint, as there is no place for me to do it.
Ann
Thanks JB.....I had gotten my page zoom right but my font was just a bit smaller than I liked and was wondering how to fix it. Now I have it just right!!
ViolaAnn, that is exactly what mine looks like and what you call the drop down menu prevents the navigatiom buttons Watch Thread, Post Reply,. Skip to New that run horizontally across the top of each page from working and even being able to click on the first three posts in many threads. (top third of page ) Could this be the 'ghost column' Debra mentions? I'm Firefox not IE. The 'ghost column' drops down abouttwo thirds of the way to the right side when it should be on the left hand margin in the New Look.

Welcome home, coleup!
Pic below is of over lapping text of menu in incorrect position highlighted in blue.
Ah ha, the banner can be seen via my android phone. But not on my pc screen, neither with IE or Firefox. Though I don't have the problem with the overlapping pic. as noted from coleup's pic. I guess there are still kinks to be ironed out.

And Pic is of how mine looks with ghst column
It'd be very nice if mouse-highlight-and-drag / mouse-highlight-and-copy could be made to work again - they haven't worked ever since the image upload was amended a few months ago.

Terry, too much going on. I am just going to sit back and wait until you all are done with it and then see what, if anything, I can do with mine. Ridiculous to even try if you are making changes. Please let us know when you are finished. Jeanette
Just popping by to give some KUDOS to the team for working so hard through so many difficult bugs (or, should I call them "insects"? ;P) on the site. It sure ain't easy. Lots of different opinions and OS's to appease, and this daunting task should not go un-thanked, so THANK YOU.
Also, some thank-yous to those of you kind enough to discuss in-detail the ways in which you have figured out your own personal little snafus, and just info in general. Greenthumb99, summerkid, Coleup, JB, Nuts -- Thank you! By reading what you all shared here I was able to figure out my own teeny little glitches. Your kindness doesn't go unnoticed. (and here you thought you were just letting off steam - HA!)
I adore the new look here; it's so clean and refreshing, cheerful and bright, retro and modern at the same time. Makes me feel as though I've just walked outside onto a freshly mown lawn that's just been rained on. Beautimous! =)
Just one suggestion to those of you tied up in knots of frustration: Take a step back, take a deep breath (preferably with your nose buried in a rose or Paeony), and give these lovely ladies (the ones willing to work sweatily through gritted teeth to make our home-away-from-home so sweet!) an extra mile to work out the kinks. Maybe we could say a prayer or 2 for them while we've got that spare minute?
Thanks guys. =)

I never did find Extras but I know it's here somewhere. I can reach it via the link provided by greenthumb but otherwise, still looking.
