A new look for DG!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

I have the weird view in Google too, how do I "clear my cache"

Gainesville, FL(Zone 9a)

I dont like it at all, cant get it right even with clearing the cache, why is there so much white space. Maybe you could post a picture of what it suppose to look like so we know what we are trying for.
Altho there are alot of sites like Daves, that are free. I think some pay to come back here because its 'home', its familiar. :-(
Im homesick already

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Can't get it on my ipad either?

It's perfect on my Ipad after going to 'Settings' then 'Safari' Then Clear History and Clear cookies and data.

Not clearing your cache is like planting in a pot with no drainage!

Hello...

Love the new look... but having difficulty viewing it....

I have a full view of 'left side' advertisements... however the thread post is cut off on the right side. The first thing I did was to close the site. Open a new browser window (using IE here at work)...tools, delete cookies, history etc... to refresh. Search via our yahoo search engine here at work and then link again. Not using a cache link...Any suggestions?

I am seeing no adds since I realize I had my preferences set to show all adds and corrected that. You still have those options, some people like to see some of the adds.

Terry, I am having to scroll back and forth on my home computer on IE and Opera. Here at work on Firefox I have to scroll also. I have a much larger monitor at home and the look is pretty much the same.

I'm could go either way with the way everything looks - it's the way it works, or doesn't work that is bothering me. I know this has been a lot of work for the people who do this. But why would you make a header that has nothing at either side so I can't see the entire page in this forum on two different computers and three browsers? I see no point for the flower at one end and the leaves at the other end just taking up space.

I am not usually upset by changes like this but I'm not going to be around if I have to scroll right to read a post and then scroll left to see who posted. Like I said previously it's all out of kilter.

Just my 2 cents.

Loretta

I don't really care how it looks as long as things work with ease and the arrangement makes sense. First thing I don't like is the disappearance of the search functions. Hope is is repaired soon.

Cleared the cache in Mozilla FireFox and everything fell right into place...and looks clean and streamlined.

I still feel that Daves Garden has some of the best Plant ID info around and most requests for ID are answered in just a couple days....unlike some sites I have been to where a request can sit unanswered for weeks. I have been here for a few years and seen a lot of changes...they all seem to work themselves out, and none of the changes change the camaraderie or the wealth of garden/lifestyle info.

Thanks to Terry for your patience and help

Change is unsettling, but that does not make it bad.

How do I clear the cache in Firefox without having to change all my passwords on everything?

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Just an FYI...I changed my page size to 75% just to see what it would do. I believe I got what has been described as the "Correct New Look" with white margins and everything lined up on the banner...BUT...it was really small!

If that's what it will take to get a correct screen, I'd rather scroll than read small text. Don't care for either, so I guess it's the lesser of two evils, unless somebody has a solution.

Your close JB, I use Chrome but I opened Firefox to tell you, that "details" button you just click it and uncheck "cookies and active logins" before clearing everything.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

JBerger, you can clear the cache on just DG with most browsers. If you have problems or need assistance, we'll need to know which browser you're using.

I disabled your ads but they will probably not resolve the right-hand cut-off, which I believe is a monitor or browser custom settting.

No, it doesn't mean that.

Was a shock when I first opened the new look website. But all I had to do was simply "refresh" which obtains a new page and creates a fresh cookie.
Liking the look for now, just stepping off into the new DG.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Here's a screenshot of how my homepage looks now. Everything is centered and I don't have to scroll. This is Firefox, but it looks the same in IE and Chrome for me.

I cleaned my cache, still have to scroll right to read all of the post. Annoying does not describe it!!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Patti, yes. They are aware that ALL the search boxes need to be inserted ASAP.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I use mostly Firefox...everything is fine except I must scroll back to read everything and the type is great all is fine but nothing fits on the page. I am sure I need to adjust something but I do not know where to begin without messing up everything.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

I don't get it at all. I did refresh, but now the ends of the sentences are cut off and the left side has the days of the week.
Glad now that I can't renew since I couldn't use anyway. I agree that some general instructions and a 'heads up' for a change would have been nice
Change for the people who don't pay wont matter anyway. Change that we who do don't understand is horrible. Guess my last day will be 7/7. I will miss many of you and certainly my close friendships, but.........

That makes me much happier. Thanks, Patti

I do agree with the 'sanitized' look of the header...

Firefox mostly for DG

Mesilla Park, NM

GardenGuyKin, thank you, so much for the Safari instructions. My IPAD DG home page is fixed and I can now see the banner.
A.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

JBerger, first try resetting the zoom: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Zoom_text_of_web_pages

If that doesn't work, you can try resetting Firefox to its original settings (but as they warn you on this page, that can mean re-adjusting any add-ons or extensions you've set up.): http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/949133

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

This is just not worth wasting my time. I have tried and nothing centers it. I will wait until it is fixed and if it does not work then, I am also out of here. Why you people keep doing this to DG. Nothing was broke...why fix it? I am trying to adjust with your changes but it is now becoming a matter of taking up too much of my time. Time is money and this is a waste.
My problem exists on both Firefox and IE and that is that everything is too far right about two inches and I must scroll over to the left to center everything. When that is fixed let me know.

Effingham, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks for noting that the Address exchange is gone and, thankfully, I got my package out last week or wouldn't have been able to get the addy.

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

My computer is down :( but it is awful on my iPhone. Text is layered all over, and hard to get back to the home screen. This is a close-up of the layered text and the whole "logged in" screen. I don't know if there is any way to clear cache on an iPhone.

I am having issues too and I have cleaned my cache a couple of times without any difference. I am using Chrome. I don't use the journal feature but the second page of my have's on my tradelist is still cut off. I can't edit or enable or anything. I don't like that I have to dig around a little to find the button to go to my tradelist. I can adapt once the bugs get worked out I think. Oh, and it seems the plant name column is wider on the second page than the first. Any advice? If you require a screenshot, where do I go to retrieve it once I take it? Because I have never had any luck doing that.

Here's instructions for clearing iPhone cache: http://browsers.about.com/od/allaboutwebbrowsers/ss/iphonecache.htm

To do a screenshot, press the prt sc button in the top left of your keyboard. It won't look like anything happened.
Open up your photo program..Paint or whatever you use. In the toolbar you should find an option to paste...maybe under edit? That will past the screen image to your workspace and you can save it like any other image.

Terry & Melody and all the rest of the hard working gang:

you'll have to throw me out and kill my computer 'cause i'll never leave.

my fellow dg'ers:

even an old dog can learn a trick or two with patience and throwing a tantrum didn't work when we were kids so why should it work now? if anyone is new to the thread, scroll through it and likely the answer to your questions is in here somewhere. if you can't find the answer, T & M are doing their best to attend to you all.

personally, i hate change as much as the next person but change is good and it makes us use our brains, gets those cobwebs out and gives us a challenge. i always cleared the cache and history on safari but never did on chrome until yesterday. it was a clogged up mess - so thank you for that!!!

Gainesville, FL(Zone 9a)

Mine is working, Im getting the whole pages now and it looks really nice. Not that much different, just a little neater. :-)

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Ok, got my cookies and history cleared on my iPhone, and it does now look much better. I have always had difficulty with the DG login button on my iPhone, and it appears the new layout will work much better for mobile viewers. Lost all my autmatic login passwords for all my sites, but it will just take logging in to each one individually once to get those reset. Thanks for the help!

Trying it on my DS's iPad now, and the layout looks fine here, too.

Magna, UT(Zone 7a)

Cool, cool. Thanks Melody. Here are my pictures.
