that's what i was getting but it's fixed now. wish i could help you.
A new look for DG!
I think you need to try and clear your Cache again, that appears to be what you see when it is not cleared out.
Yes, it looks like the cache didn't clear properly.
I'd try it again.
How can I enlarge the font without having to scroll back and forth to read the threads? Thanks.
I cleared the cache, and everything is fine. Safari 5.1.9 (Macintosh, of course).
OK, on my newer computer it looks OK. I don't like it, but it looks OK. On my older computer with a 19" monitor, it doesn't work. On the newer computer I refuse to use Firefox the full width of the monitor. And I don't like to scroll back and forth. It still needs to size to the monitor size.
Meh, I'm OK with the new look, though I'm not convinced it's an improvement over the old version.
I assume the new, narrow format is designed to cater to mobile devices. But it would be better if it could adapt to diverse screen sizes and allow for a wider content area on laptop/desktop monitors.
The most annoying design change is the artificial "dirt" on the grey left/right margins... makes me think my screen needs cleaning. Please change it to a plain, clean grey background.
I still don't plan to renew my subscription until I see changes for the better.
I'm not a big fan of the changes so far either. I don't like the size of the pages. It's too small for me and I have a 19" wide screen. I changed my zoom to 125% and it was too big for me.
It's also a little plain. Not too bad, could be worse but definitely could be better.
In either IE or Firefox when I go to my journal it cuts off on the right after the "Location" column, apparently displaced by the "Follow Dave's Garden" box.
Your not making room to ease ads in on us are you? I have no complaints, otherwise, other than everything is smaller. Well, hi pepper, fancy seeing you here! : ) But, it looks more professional, less amateurish, good work.

Mine is doing the same thing - my guess is it has some one-off programming in there that is fighting with the new width of the page.
The new narrower width is not necessarily for apps (or ads!) but just a more updated look that is intended to make it easier for readers using all sizes of monitors.
so if it's a new NARROWER page, how come mine falls off the sides? I really dislike having to scroll back and forth widthwise.
And the black text isn't really black - more of a hard-on-the-eyes grey.
Where do I find all the threads I'm following? I liked the old page that would come up when I logged in showing me all the communities I'm members of and the threads that I'm following that had new comments.
Also, I don't have a wide screen and HATE that I have to scroll over to the right to see the whole page. I also have older eyes and don't like having to strain and squint to read the pages. If I have to change the resolution to fit the whole screen on my page, I won't be visiting frequently.
Try clicking on Home, do you have your home page set up with the threads you are following?
I found them, thanks. Still having to scroll.
How are your add preferences set up?
Stephanie, you shouldn't have to scroll. Ad preferences could be part of it, but more likely is how your browser is set up. The font color has not changed - it's still black.
I also have troubles with offset and overlap..using Chrome and don't know what a cache is.......new information almost impossible to input into knowledge base due to cognitive impairment of fibro
Is there a way to choose the older type?
I have on my screen what viola has...this list on the left side of the page, no banner at all and a ton of white space on the right. What do I need to do.
Where is the Search feature to use to search my journal . There use to a search box right under date. Also what happened to the critical columns that contained Begin Date, Status, Entries, and Action in Journal. They are no longer visible in the narrow column format which is not a good thing. The date and status are critical information of keeping my journal on DG for years. I will be devastated if they are now gone. Hope they are just hiding or that I am just dumb. Fingers crossed. Patti
OK, now I have a banner, no list and lots of grey space on both sides of the screen. Is that what it is supposed to look like?
Where are the "extras"? Like addresses. It will be hard to run a swap if there are no addresses to send.
I also am not real happy with the green, or all the white space. I use my IPad and stuff gets cut off to the right.
It just looks so impersonal. Maybe it will look better when there are pictures again.
As a designer myself, I appreciate the wide margins within my browser (Safari). Filling those margins would void the nice breath one can take when logging on, without being overwhelmed with just too much information. I've run the site through three browsers and on two monitor sizes, 15" and 27" and I reallllly do appreciate the nice space on the sides. We designers always fight clients and end up having to convince them of why white-space is just so necessary and useful. In the end, they (almost) always agree!
Dave's Garden looks all grown up, but still very fresh and young. I think the changes are all positive improvements—need a search in the forums—though I'd still like to take a stab at re-designing that logo ;-)
Good job to all those involved. This is nice!
Terry, I think it would be much better if you would:
1. Alert the folks that you are making the change.
2. Make a list of instructions on how to change each browser for it.
3. I do not resent the change, just the way you all are going about it.
4. Trying to correct our computers this way when you are answering a person at a time, each person's issue in different replies. Just shaking my head.d I followed your instructions and got nowhere.
5. Sorry, very poor way of do it. Don't know who decided, but you guys have been around long enough you should know your clientele by now.
Jeanette
Agree with Orange, nice job indeed - I'm using my iPad at the moment & have no issues at all...having been a member for years I have watched people pitch hissy fits with every tiny change, 'threatening' to not use, leave, not renew etc. FB makes changes, Paypal, eBay - every site makes changes - it's just the way it is & it'll continue to be that way, no matter how much anyone moans & groans...I for one am happy with changes, it shows me that DG is keeping up with the times & double kudos to the admins for patiently explaining & helping everyone who runs into issues 😃
Sorry Bec_No_Va, do not agree. Very poor instructions. Why help each person individually when each browser could have been taken care of in one post.
This new look is completely cutting off my Journal page, which I use on a regular basis and is the main reason I remain a subscribing member. I can no longer update or add photos.
I hope this will be fixed soon.
I have cleared my cache, so this isn't the problem.
I've checked it with all three browsers I have. Firefox, Chrome and IE. It's the same on all three. :-(

ditto on the journal pages... seems like they are cut off on the right, and the areas to add and move have been elimiated.. or moved to the bottom of the page? Either way, certainly a lot more difficult to manipulate. If not impossible.. my journals are huge and I use them almost daily... this is too bad they suddenly have become unusable. Hope that can be fixed soon....
What is a cache and how does one clear it?
Lol. Resin, that's a hemline. You should hang out in the Sewing and Quilting forum for a bit. I was wondering when the site address would be changed to gardens.com.
Did I miss where it says report error on the Plantfile page? I looked all over. Thanks
You're right. It's gone.
trackinsand,
Hold control key and turn the roller on the mouse and see what happens, while you have the DG page on.
It is said that only one thing is permanent and that is CHANGE. Let's move on into the new era. Surely the team will make it better. I'd still prefer the picture on the header. As melody said the team is working on it too. So let's wait and observe.
I use G/chrome and the header is not fitting properly. The 'products..' is thrown off somewhere. Have to try clearing cache as suggested above.
If it was'nt broke why did they fix it? Not the best choices.Mine is still unreadable even with a smaller font.
