I just went to IE and WOW, I really like it.
I am usually on Firefox and windows 8 all the time.
I tried taking the screen shot and nothing happened. No new photo in my W8 photo file or anything. Will keep watching a waiting, but do like how it displays on IE.
A new look for DG!
Don't really know what DH did but it is OK in Firefox now. Thank you !!!
Yes, Judy, I was shocked too. Reserving judgement until I get my cache cleared and I do NOT know how to do screenshots. I guess it reminds me most of the last time I used Windows XP (which I loved) before switching to Win8, which I am not crazy about. It's almost time to update everything and then I'll have to start from scratch, you know, clear the history in my brain!
Mine says
Hello, carrielamont!D-MailMy InfoPreferencesLogout
all smushed together like that. I'll clear stuff now.
One problem I noticed, on the forums http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/ I can no longer search forums. I use this feature frequently.
Yay, the articles have thumbnail pictures again! That's a big improvement!!! Happy dance.
This is what it looks like on my mobile. I don't like it. I liked the top menu better than side.
Erin
Erin, those have always been there. The main navigation is at the top (we removed some of the redundant navigation from the left-hand side.)
growin, that's definitely a tech issue - forum searching is a must-have for a lot of us. I'll let them know; thanks for pointing that out!
I've alerted them to the search function...Garden Watchdog zip code search is missing too, but they are working on it.
Terry that did the trick..I can see the complete post now.
Sorry - did you switch browsers, or was it just Melody taking off the ads that did the trick?
Opps the adds I'll look at a different browser.
Looks ok in IE but I do not use it. I use chrome in windows 8 mode.
Do you know how to clear your cache in Chrome?
This is quite a difference. At 100% there is a large space at the left and I have to scroll back and forth to read the posts.
I turned my view down to 90% and there is still a space on the left side so I have to scroll right to see the rest of the headers and the posts. I'm using Opera and that might be the issue, but it's not the easiest to navigate right now.
Do you have another browser to check it on elsie?
Thanks!
Wish they would fix the Journal instead of this. Not a fan of all the dead space. Patti
Patti, I agree about the dead space. My whole left home screen says "follow DG on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter." (Interesting, the only one of those that my spellcheck bothers to correct is "Pinterest." The other two are officially words.)
Melody, I switched to IE8 and while it looks better I still need to scroll to the right to the right side of the posts and pages. To my eye it looks like the headers at the top of the page are too wide. Maybe it's the browser but the page for a forum post and plant files looks off kilter.
Thanks, Loretta
on google, mine is a mess. re-booted but still no dice. safari is okay.
how do i clean google? i have cache-out but it only does my safari. i'll give it a try anyway.
wanted to add that i love the new look, dead space on sides and all! very streamlined and clean.

I adjusted my resolution on my desktop. I can see the whole thing but now it's so small. So I used the zoom on my browser. It works ok now, but all my sites are very small. I give up.
The site does look crisper now which is a plus, but I don't care for the smushed together look with the taller profile; lot's of wasted space in the margins which I hope is not being prepared as the canvas for increased advertisements. If it stays clean, it will be tolerable. Also, the "Last Post" column in my d-mails is half cut off.
I guess I am giving it a mixed review, for now. :)
I had to reduce my font size which isn't a big problem but I still have to scroll
horizontally to fit in the entire header. I still can't see the Dahlia on the right edge
but it isn't important enough to fiddle with.
Reducing the left margin of the header might help. And I'd like to see the black
bar with menu items centered under the header or shifted to the left margin.
Placing it to the right edge looks very awkward to this graphic designer's eye
and anyone who increases their font size will lose part of it.
I like the colors and overall look. The problems can be tweaked and all will
be well. ;-)
I don't care for all the white space either and if I increase my font size I'm zooming back and forth to try to read. Why work so hard to mess up something that worked well before?? .
Don't do me any more favors.
Ooops, forgot to add that I do seriously object to the green type face. I can't darken it and
am finding it very very very hard to read. Give us plain black type please! I need to be
able to read my list of Watched Threads. Colors look different on different monitors and
what you see may not be at all what the rest of us are seeing.
Btw, flickr changed, ebay changed, it's not the end of the world. Facebook changes every month! At least Terry and Melody are listening to us!!!! Thanks for being great.
Using Firefox. At least I 'm not getting one huge picture overlaying everything else.
I don't like all this stuff at the top of the page in a linear fashion:

I'm still thinking it's a good thing I didn't pay my membership this morning.
It IS better once I cleared the cache, but I'm still not sure I like it.
i figured out how to clear history and cache on google chrome. all is well. my font size is the same as always.
my type is black too.

Great!
Did you look at the screen shot? That's not right, all jumbled.
Erin
I am sure much hard work was put into the new look, but I do not care for it at all compared to the time tested old one, the new one seems way to light in color, the banner too light a greyish tan, and the white background with this light banner is for some reason straining and stressful to the user, atleast me personally. I miss the dark green banner of the old look, the old look just seemed more restful and inviting to both the lay user and people who've been on here for a couple years like myself too. not trying to be critical but constructive as I love and support Dave's Garden and again personally feel the old look much more inviting and easy to use. I thought it was perfect. The new ability to use avatars on the other hand were a wonderful addition to DG, this new look I dont like. Respectfully, Sandra

We're looking in to darkening the green font some
sigh. I have had such a bad week and a half... I was really looking forward to getting on DG and relaxing.
finding all these changes on a day like today... NOT what I needed.
i'm old.
i'm tired.
don't like change anyway.
had to try to even figure out where this forum /post would be.
decided i'd just grumble to myself and try to look at the threads I am watching, and not saying anything negative. I know it's been work for someone (or several someones), so I don't like to be a whiner.
went to go to my diary to voice my frustrations over the past week or two... only to find I only have 2 diaries (is that right?)--seemed like I had more before. maybe not.
but now I can't figure out how to add to them? create a new one?
help....... i'm ready to cry...
I don't need this today...
My techie grandson says Google Chrome is a virus magnet and refuses to let me use it.

I agree 100%
Carole, the navigation to access your diaries are all in the tabs across the top.
click Communities
click My Blog
The box on the left of that screen will give you options to add and edit your diaries.
