A new look for DG!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm thrilled to show off our updated look for the site, which the tech team has been working very hard on for several weeks.

DG's former look definitely stood the test of time and served us well for many years, but we heard from readers that it was beginning to look and feel a little shopworn and outdated. We heard you and we've made some subtle changes to bring it up to date without sacrificing the things that make DG so special to our longtime members

Be sure to clear your browser's cache or you may find you see some pages in the "old" version and others in the new.

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

Needs a lot more work, my site is all screwed up now! Menu overlays the page.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Clear your cache. It should display properly.
What browser are you using?

(we're just rolling this out and the team is still adjusting things too)

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

Cleared, internet explorer 10, what I see can't be the new look!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Can you grab a screen shot?

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

Never mind, had the settings wrong to clear all the cache!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

It's ok now?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

On Google Chrome it has issues. LOL

AOL looks OK but so much dead space on either side. I wonder if it is supposed to have dead space.

Yes, there should be a space on either side of the forum list. This lets folks who use enlarged text bump up their font size without having to scroll back and forth.

Clear the history in chrome too. I had to clear for all of my browsers. Chrome looks fine now.

It's AWFUL! Let's go back to something that works.

PS I got my membership renewal notice this morning and won't be renewing if it continues to look like this.

Ok, everything seems to looks good. Are there any changes other than the banner? I know I am old now, changes for changes sake don't appeal to me, but I realize that is just my oldness setting in. I am sure that ever who complained about the old look, must feel differently.

It does work, and it's more awesome than awful, I promise :-) What browser are you using, and have you cleared your cache?

We made some small tweaks to the navigation, but they were very well thought-out and you may not even notice them, or if you do, they just make more sense than what we had in place before.

Cleared the cache, but still having issues in the forms...it's moved too far to the RT cuts off half the post.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Jokenna, what browser are you using? I've tried Firefox, Chrome and IE and it is centered for all of them.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

Chrome...seems to be in the swap forms that I'm having issues with.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

I don't mind the new look, but I sure will miss the beautiful photos on the top banner.

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

Please excuse my negative attitude! I know there was a lot of hard work put into this.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

We're going to have some photos...they'll be smaller because we needed the room, but the tech team is working on that too.

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

Uh, does that mean more adds? Or more features!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Jokenna, when I logged in as you with Chrome, this is what it looked like to view the swaps forum. Everything seemed pretty centered. Does it look different for you?

Seedfork, neither really...the new banner simply doesn't lend itself to the larger images that we had before. But we will be able to swap out images more easily.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

We just wanted to make sure that when we added something there was room. The Garden Showcase tab crowded things quite a bit and stuff was getting buried under multiple tabs. You can now find the contest page easily...your preferences are front and center too.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

That is even cut off for me if I open the picture.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

What browser are you using?

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

My eyes like larger images, of course I am not the one having to change them.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

This is what I get.

That sounds like something in your settings, because when I open the image, I can see space on either side of the forum. You may need to revisit your monitor and/or browser settings if you aren't seeing the whole image. I found this on a Google Chrome helpdesk page:

1. Click on the wrench in the upper right-hand corner
2. Select zoom
3. Select full screen button
4. Hit your F11 button

Himrod, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi Terry, Melody and, My home page is layered with script where the info is and is unreadable. I have W8 and have cleaned my cache, logged out and still have the problem. My DH says it is a script error on one of your pages. Any info would be great. Love it here!!! My second home.

I have no idea how to take a screen shot of my homepage. ;-)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Take a screen shot...

The line of buttons above you numbers, you should see a button above your backspace bar that says prt sc

Push it and then go to your photo program and paste it as a new image. You should be able to post that like you do any picture.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

Terry

I followed your instructions and I'm still getting this. I do have windows 8 could that be the issue?

You are slowly winning me over I do like the preferences tab where I can see it. I have been complaining about all the adds, and I just realized I had them all turned on in my preferences, so much better now!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Jokenna, I think it's browser-related, rather than operating system. The easiest way to test is to switch to a different browser and see if the problem persists. Do you have Internet Explorer or Firefox available to use temporarily?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Jokenna, I've turned off your ads. Does that help?

Beautiful, BC(Zone 8b)

Although it will take a bit of getting used to, I really like it. The organic feel is appropriate. It would be a good idea to have identifiable plants in the header instead of stylized. I'd also like to thank DG Admin for ensuring the 9/11 ribbon remains.

Mequon, WI(Zone 4b)

I am all for updated looks, and I think you did a great job with that.

However, I do have a slight problem with the threads no longer shrinking width-wise as much as they used to. I am using IE8 (required at work), and can only shrink the browser window so far before it starts cutting off text, causing me to scroll left to right to view an entire post. With the old look, I could pretty much make my browser window any size I wanted [so it would fit down in the corner of my screen and not be so noticable that I was on Dave's Garden instead of working ;) ]

I am also wondering how it will look on my Kindle. I'll check that tonight.

Thanks!
Jeannie

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

Joyous, do you have IE10? That is what I saw the first time, when you click on "Delete Browsing History" clear the check by "preserve favorites website data" . Then delete the browsing history, then restart internet Explorer and log back into Dave's Garden. That worked for me, just remember to go back and check the "Preserve favorites website data" box again.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Jeannie, that is a good point about the ability to reduce the size of the screen. I do the same thing for my DG work so I can fit two screens side-by-side on my laptop monitor. Let me see what we can do.

Growin, thank you - I am VERY pleased with what the techs have done to gently update the site without losing our identity. We have some plans to make the banner photos unique to DG (more to come in the days ahead.)

The techs have worked very hard on this project and I think we'll all find it is more user-friendly once we get past the initial switch-over :-).

Newnan, GA(Zone 7b)

Wow. So much white space. I'll save my opinion until I work in this for a while, but at first glance it was shocking. Old people don't take to change easily, either. LOL.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Judy, you can increase your font size and reduce the white space by holding down your ctrl button and scrolling your mouse wheel up.
