http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1310767/

Who can I visit, have winter weather here..sleet/snow/rain and winds, all inside of 1/2 hour. Know it will not stay but how disappointing.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear your weather is not cooperating for you Betty!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Happy Mother's day all. So sorry Debbie. Prayers coming your way. All we are getting is rain rain rain after the drought lat yr. Can't hit a happy medium. Oh well. Hugs BEV

They do say ' no news is good news' Bev! Am sure you are on pins and needles though..they would had he passed on let you know wouldn't they? Love as always the photo's..might just buy one and see if those lily bugs are still around, if no signs of them then I can start collecting them again.

Judy girl what were you lifting that did you in? Am looking forward to the seeing photo's of your projects..hopefully your weather is better than ours.

Told the boys to get on with their plans, we will reschedule the 'to do' list for when they come back from Jamaica and weather is better.

Thought I might go out and cut grass but that is going to wait, just too cold, more the winds then anything else.

Maybe go downstairs and try and finish the quilt on the frame and/or the the quilt I need for the upcoming wedding, that out to keep me out of mischief.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Barb, so understand you not posting during that time with Norm. I am so glad to hear everything turned out okay. My heart just sank after reading your post and that was after everything.

Katie, someone needs to figure out why this "4 AM Club" is happening....I have been doing the same for about a week. Finally caught up with me yesterday and I took a very long nap. Must admit I felt much better but don't want that to be the way I go now.....to many things I need to have done soon.

Love all the beautiful pictures of flowers everyone has blooming. I still need to have my DD email me with the ones she took of my plants while I was down with mom.

Debbie, hugs and prayers. So sad to hear of happenings such as you told us.

Happy Mothers day all...even if it is only 4 legged babies...they count.

Glenview, IL

Waiving Hi Bev!! Hope you enjoy your day, wow are those in bloom now?
Simply Gorgeous.

Well, I was posting while Betty prepared this lovely new room.

Yikes, Betty, Sorry to hear your weather is icky!! Here too cold and windy. I am sure Mae will love the Tie memory quilt, it's beautiful!!
Well, lol I'm sure you will enjoy the day with the boys inside or out! But i do hope weather gets better, so some things will get done outside.

Dianne, Sending you tight Armwraps for "surviving" the first year, I know there have been lots of harsh times. But I am so glad your out look on things has been really uplifting and working on your gardens, I know i always find that a very theraputic. I know Santa Warren is with your every move in mind and spirit.

Thunder, Are you in NC, waiting for the arrival?? My goodness, how exciting. Saw the adorable t'shirt you made for Big Sister, just love it.

Susan, what a Drag, someone stole the gas from camper, so glad you found out now!! Wishing you luck with the resumes!
Well, it is just the pits, I never did get a call from Staples!! Very bad management if you ask me. I am about ready to create a very simple resume. one that doesn't enclose all that i can do!! I talked with Breenie about it and she said I was over qualified!! Thats ok, i hate Staples anyway, from way back when i ordered from them, but i said that guy promised to call not once but 3 times and i never heard a word, grrrr, why didn't he just say that in the first place, and they are still looking for someone!!! lol their loss and a huge waste of my time, I am thinking about writing to his Manager.

Thank you everyone about Skittles! She is still sore, been staying rather close to us all.

MoonBeam, THANK YOU!!! Your call was right on and very much needed.

Well finally i am feeling better today.

Glenview, IL

Awe, Skittles taking a rest on dads nice big shoulder.
This was the night she flew into the window...
And the other 4 lol who needs a dog?
Hey whats that your eating?? Huh ice cream, i want some!
Mmm, thanks for freezing my rattle brain!!
Hahaha.

Skittles looks as though she is taking advantage big time with her feeling unwell, likely thinking 'ice cream is a healing source when you are sick is it not?'
Adorable!

Judy is that the base for green house?? Or are you rebuilding? Drats I'd have had a greenhouse had Debbie's Paul had jotted down the dimensions and come build it. Lol
I'm sure Judy both you and Susan will find employment..hard going out there with searching.

Debbie how are things going this morning, here is hoping you can relax and somewhat enjoy the day as best you can..did Shane come for that gathering?

Think I might take a nap..

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Happy Mother's Day to you all....kids are kids no matter the shape they come in.

My pleasure Judy....I always enjoy our talks....Love ya bunches....this too shall pass. What a neat layout...will that be for herbs and/or veggies?

Verona, ON

Quick note. Happy Mother Day! No power, lost it over night and it sounds like at least noon tomorrow. Wouldn't ya know I watched DVDs on the laptop last night so I am almost out of power.''

No sleet like Betty but fat, hard rain and very strong winds. Several trees down on the lane.

Thinking of you all.
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening all, just got back from Greg's..snowing and winds are unbelievable. Not a nice weekend at all! Great meal though..

Dianne, we had a tree hit hydro lines on Friday night, thankfully I-pad was charged.

You have had an awful lot of power failures, likely worth it to have backup system installed with a commercial generator.

Jean here is hoping you've had a terrific day..

Shoulders killing me so off I go, hot bath, hot tea, snuggle into bed with the kitties.

Baton Rouge, LA

Happy Mothers Day again everyone... (HUGS)

Lyndonville, NY

Happy Mother's Day Mary and everyone.

We had the same nasty weather as DIanne & Betty. DH finished mowing, the sky opened up.....and hail, snow & rain, repeat.....all afternoon.

Happy Birthday to Steve from us Judy!!

Leaving bright and early for Cleveland, will update when I can.

Hugs,
Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thoughts and prayers go with you Debbie!

Judy, happy birthday to Steve..give him a hug for me.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Happy Mother's Day, everyone!!!

((((((((((Debbie)))))))))) how awful you've lost one of your "kids"...... I feel your pain.....

Betty - thank you for the Mother's Day wishes..... some days I feel like your mother too lol

Last night we went to an Irish Dancers performance - kids from age 3 to 18..... very good (but very loud - hard shoe is what they call some of it, like River Dance.... my head is still pounding)
They actually did a "nod" to River Dance style.
It was called "a History of Irish Dance). Some of it was a kind of "soft shoe"
Today, at Church, we mothers each got a carnation corsage - very lovely.
Here's a pic taken of all the mothers - I'm in the back row, under the banner word "Christ".....
and here's the box of corsages we were given. One of our neighbourhood grocery stores donated them to the church for Mother's Day, and the picture of the moms is going to be given to them, to put on their bulletin board

Bev, you've a green thumb when it comes to lilies, omg they are beautiful.

Cold out there, am a search for winter clothing, will need it.

Debbie, safe travels to Cleveland..

Lyndonville, NY

Thank you, on our way out shortly. Freeze warnings out, and dang is it cold!!!

Will try and check in tonight.

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Hope you all had great Mothers Day! Debbie, did you hear from your son? Good luck at your appointments today!
Bev, beautiful flowers!
Judy, sorry to hear your going through so much, praying things settle down for you soon!
Please tell us what your building?
Susan, beautiful photo of all the Mothers!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I was out for a bit this morning, picking things up, even the double sitting rocker was on it's side..also brought in a few hanging baskets..will leave them inside until it warms up. Did see along drive to the ofice this morning several downed trees, wicked winds for sure.

Safe travels Debbie, hope more answers result from the additional testing.

Lovely photo Susan..small congregation isn't it? you have to wonder how these churches stay open.

How are you doing LindaKay, did you get to see the kids over the weekend

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - as a matter of fact, our Pastor went to Nevada for a few days vacation, and they went to a church where their pastor did a "State of the Church" (kinda like a"State of the Union" address), and so our pastor did the same thing. Went over the finances, etc of our church, talked about all the volunteering we do, charities we support, etc. We have $43k in our Memorial fund, and "borrow" $20k each year to cover a deficit.... so in about 2 years we'll have nothing left except a few month's worth.
It was a very stirring speech and he said to me afterwards that he was so nervous creating and making it. It's not the usual type of sermon he does, but some of our finance people say the congregation "glazes over" when they talk finance. The entire congregation applauded after his speech. It was very gratifying to hear. Hopefully, as happened a few years ago, someone in the congregation will put the Church in their will.

If we aren't helped financially, the Church will close. Our pastor retires in 6 years, and he's already grooming people in the Church to take over his duties.

Victoria Harbour, ON

They've just closed a few in our area..a few will have to amalgamate, just NO funds to continue and yet they say the Catholic Church is one of the wealthiest of Churches

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

This isn't a Catholic Church - it's a United Church. and believe me..... they're poorer than the Catholic Churches lol
And yet...... they say that more of our population is going back to the church as a whole.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just listene an hour talk show Friday on just that..but they said the opposite, now with internet services going on, different schedules, changes in religious thoughts re direction of the church many are opting for their own beliefs and NOT returning to the church.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

perhaps it's the older population returning, but in our church I see people in their 30's, 40's and 50's joining, and some are bringing their young ones - 3 years old & up.
I know it's always been an issue with young parents having SO much scheduling taking them away on Sundays..... it's hockey, soccer, (and for the students - University & college studying), etc, and Of Course..... the internet.....
More people are shopping around for just the "right" church/congregation for them.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Betty, no kids this week end. My youngest one called and wished my Happy Mothers day, but I have not heard from my oldest yet! He does that, has to be called to remind him of everything! But even if they were to come in, I would not have been the best of company this week end. I have diverticulitis that flares up every once in awhile, and it decided to flare up Friday morning. It usually goes away after a day or so, but it is still hurting this morning. Just waiting on the antibiotics to kick in! Pain pills don't help much, just been sleeping a lot!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

sorry to hear both your diverticulitis is flaring up, and that you won't be with your kids...... darn for your oldest not remembering Mother's Day!

Every year at this time I remember the 2 sons I never see. One, I haven't seen since Dec 1998 nor heard from him since April 2000. The other one, is my son that I adopted out when I was only 18....... he was not planned (my boss "forced" himself on me.....). I had spoken to him in 2006, but since he found out that he was not a love child, he's refused to speak to me again.
Ah well, I have my lovely daughter, who loves me and with whom I have a great relationship......
I just wish I could have been in Winnipeg to see my Mom and daughter...... plus the rest of the family of course!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Pretty sad they don't want to love you, because your boss did you wrong. Sorry to hear that! I hope you pressed charges?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

It was over 30 years ago, and no, I didn't press charges - I was 17, and worked as a waitress in a restaurant.
When I was going out with my boyfriend afterwards, he wanted to see the fellow (owner of the restaurant). We went to the restaurant (about a year after the assault and therefore after my son was born), and my (now ex) said he wanted to punch the fellow out.

On Another Note - guess what I woke up to on Mother's Day?
Here is a beautiful way to wake up, and another with a promise :-)

Beautiful flowers Susan!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yes....... really surprised me. everything else in my gardens is green.

Victoria Harbour, ON

drats, had a post typed, phone rang, went to check on a client and zap, post no longer.

LindaKay, I believe that is a very painful illness, guess when you have an attack you have a routine to follow..sorry you didn't get to see the children. Guess you are very limited as to what you can eat?

Susan, that is such a sad story..did you have him charged..sure hope so as likely you were not the first and not the last to have gone through such a traumatic event.

Shame on your son..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, I have to watch what I eat, no nuts, or whole grain foods, even though they are good for you, just not my tummy. I have to watch eating strawberries, raspberries... the small seeds are the culprits. And yes, it is very painful! It has been a long time since I took this many pain pills! Dietitian says lots of fruits and veggies, fiber is good, just no nuts or grains, and very little meat when it flares up.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is terrible, especially the no berries, my very favorites..guess you must do what you must do

Off to decide if I will go cut grass or go buy black thread so I can quilt and at same time while in Midland could pick up roll of linoleum so the girls coming Thursday for the week can do one...what to do, what to do
Hmmm couch looks good also

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

I just noticed this thread. Can I jump right in? 102F right now. Would love to share about 30 to 40 degrees of it.

Hi everyone!!

Hi Linda,i can post on this one,but i still cant post on our thread.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Kelli, all are welcome, love the chance of meeting new friends as do these lovely ladies..finer you'd be hard pressed to find.

Feel free to tell us about yourself...thrilled you found us!

Ohhh 102, just came in from cutting the grass (love the rider) and my fingers were numb, hot bath, making a hot chocolate and that fills Monday..

Said to self, 'how many sleeps Neil Joyce arrives?' Just like a kid , 3 more sleeps lol

Almost was tempted to drive into midland for thread and a linoleum roll but decided if I left 1/2 hr earlier tomorrow morning I could stop at Walmart and home depot so that's my plan.

Just as I came in Aunt Muriel called, apparently mom gave her a bunch of stuff for me, bet it's craft stuff she's trying to get rid of, hope not!

Mom called, we chatted for what seems forever, she was n a good humor so it was nice chatting..forgot to ask her what she sent..

Oops kettle is whistling, time to get comfy

What are you all doing?
