LK Diesel couldn't do a worse job than Santa Warren when it comes to pulling weeds. I swear SW did it deliberately so I would get ticked off and relieve him of weed duty. No such luck!!! I just pointed out his error and replanted the flower.
Black flies are horrendous right now - I can't even sit out on the deck. Truly hope this is not the year of an extraordinary amount of biting insects. Also saw my first black snake - this is early for them. Wonder if the snappers will be early this year too??? Usually they climb that hill to our yard to lay their eggs around the summer soltice. DIdn't have Diesel at this point last year so am wondering if he has enough sense to keep away from the snappers while they are in the yard. Sure hope so!!!
Listening to Eric Clapton .... nice Sunday afternoon music. Once a month through summer and fall the village has a concert in the park across the lake from us. Love the music ... it varies from jazz to rock to gospel. I swear I get the best sound though as it carries across the lake.
Love the idea of a cone Katie. Made me chuckle but eh if it works why not.
Are you home now Mary? How are you feeling, fever down???

Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Come visit & chat
The afternoon concert sounds nice Dianne! Sorry to hear the black flies are so bad.
You are raising a fine boy Jean, am sure his grades are high! Only a few more weeks of school? Nice when they take the initiative to work and make $$$. So many these days just put their hand out and expect it to be filled with dollars.
Dianne, we used to buy the steaks individually packed in boxes at Leadbetters in Orillia, they also had ribs..will go to Foodland and pick some up tomorrow night. we also have concerts in the park..sponsored by Rotary Club who fund raised for the shelters. Guess my Tuesday night tv bingo dollars that I pay for the cards are going to good use. Was looking at Midland calendar and I believe the tall ships will be in the region late August, not sure if more Rotary Club to support this initiative.
LindaKay, I think Katie had a great idea..a crafter such as yourself should easily make a foot cone..now trying to get him to wear it is another thing.
Been inside since early afternoon, now trying to decide if I'll attempt one more weed picking session.
Katie, feeling better?
Meant to add, just finished watching Time Traveller, anyone watch it, your thoughts?
Betty, initially when the steaks came out they were in boxes now they are in bags. Or at least in my Foodland they are. Do you remember the Sterling Silver ribs and pork chops the old IGA used to carry? Man, they were good. It is a company from out west and I guess they didn't do as well in Ontario as they had hoped. I am not terribly fond of pork but these SS ribs were out of this world on the BBQ.
Started to watch Silver Linings Playbook but I just can't sit still long enough to get into it. Pretty intense, I think too much so for me today.
Made scalloped potatoes for dinner tonight. I forgot how much I liked them. I was chatting with a friend today who lives in Waterloo and we both use the same basic recipe and I think that is what got me thinking about them.
Wish you could have shared your din/din with me Dianne, love scalloped potatoes..I usually end up buying boxed scalloped potato mixes. Not as good as home cooked but not bad.
Don't remember the ribs Dianne..Roger was the cook and grocery man, I just ate lol
Just watching the 5th estate..documentary of termanilly ill Gloria Taylor's battle for the legal right to ends her life. Very interested..her need and right to die with dignity..
Thunder are they gerber daisies?
Have never seen a cactus flower, so pretty.
Gloria did win the right to die at a time of her choice but before she had to make the choice she died as a result of infection.
no not these ones...I do have some gerbers tho. I will take a picture tomorrow, if there are any blooms.
Hmmm, wondering if those are in the same family as the ones I planted Thunder. I will post
picture. I still have the tag out there next to it if you need the name and you think the are the same.
They look similar but just different colors. As you can tell...I am in a purple garden mood.
Betty, is Time Traveler the movie? I recall one about a couple married and he kept going off in time
and would come back younger...or older. It was hard to follow.
Dianne, we were attempting to watch Brides Maids.....Shannon loved the movie, but I can't get into it. At least
not today. Then DH came home and some of it was not appropriate for all three of us to feel comfortable watching
it together....at least me!
yes similar I think. I want to say African daisy??? but not sure. they come in all kinds of colors.
I will check in the morning...its dark out and something might grab me. I might like it...so not taking any chances! O:)
Oh Debbie ! LOL.... Too funny... Love Katie's cone of shame idea as well.... (HUGS)
Dianne... I wrote "Silver linings playbook" on my list of things to do... just haven't got around to it yet... if you watch it let me know if I will like it.... :o)
Got to work at 9am... no breakfast... felt better... but started going downhill... the bosses all came in late and never worked just watched us.... so when Witchy came by to talk to me... (mighty close to me too)... I was probably well under 103* fever (or felt like it) . Hope there won't be repercussions for that.
We went to hibby after that and the lone one I had won a ribbon (maybe it's not hard to win as an amateur...but this is my last contest as an amateur so I'll learn next year) HA!
Lanakila... maybe you can sell those barrettes on Etsy ? etsy.com?
LK would it be wrong to put rubber gloves on his hands? Oh Moonie! So glad you had spring temps... it was pretty by 3pm when we got home today but I had to head to bed....
GOOD for Jordan! Will he work through Summer or summer school?
So I'm trying Debbies Vicks on the Feet.... Drank some nyquil... Won't get comped for working this day off... I wish that were so... however if I do feel sick after the meeting tomorrow... may sneak home for a couple hours...
Hugs to all
Mary
PS: Betty and Debbie those flowers are SO pretty !
I say you put the cone on his foot and swat him with a newspaper if he tries to scratch it. kb
I don't know how he would feel about a rubber glove? dad has had his hand smacked so many time, I lost count! So they are going to bundle the foot, so he can't get to it very easily.
Mary, sure hope your feeling better soon!
Jean - ours is not a DVD ready TV.... just a plain TV.... but has WiFi capability. Not sure how that works?!?!
Betty - we had 25c today.....wow!
What a day...... sitting here relaxing and doorbell rang.... sure enuff, it was Cam (con-artist from our past..... one that keeps bilking Bob out of $$). I called Bob to the door (didn't want him in our home!!!) and they went out and sat on the deck. Later on Bob came in with $500 cash! Cam wanted to buy some of Bob's ladders..... I was stunned! Mind you, this is Not me forgiving him for all the cr*& he put us through over the years.... I don't trust him one little bit! and he knows it........
but, between yesterday's sale, Bob's win of a TV and today's cash influx.... I'm..... feeling...... lucky indeed! Now we can pay some more bills lol
Now, if only that job I just applied for turns out too........ for the U of C, in the Medical Faculty as an Admin Ass't. We shall see.....
geeze Bev - I was thinking the same thing...... weeds are easier to keep lol
I've just got a bit of green showing in my garden. Even the church's garden has tulips blooming.
I need to get rid of the dead stuff and today would be a perfect day, NOW, before it gets hot. It's supposed to get to 27c today......81F
Morning Bev, how are you doing? Love your blooms. I think the first one is a wisteria, I don't know the 2nd one?
Morning Susan!
Good morning, LK!
Yes, class ends this week for GS. He is going to work over the summer...he is saving quite a bit, but at this point he doesn't have a "purchase" in mind. he just likes having his own money and not having to ask or borrow from us. Thanks Betty, I think he is a pretty special young man. He was a cum laude grad from high school....that got his tuition paid for him through the TOPS plan and Pell grant...his entire first year cost us/him nothing for tuition...and as long as he keeps his grades up it will continue for the next three years. That puts the onus on him to take advantage and get an education.
Those daisies look like Arctotis, African Daisy.....daisies look so sweet in the garden....and so do the Transvaal Daisy...Gerberas.
Continued good thoughts for your Dad LK. Hope the bandages work...repeated infections are hard on his whole body/system.
Congrats on the ribbon Mary....hope ya feel tip-top soon. We use Cold-ease lozenges....they have a healthy dose of zinc in them...and they seem to work well at stopping/shortening a cold.
Gee Dianne...what could be better than scalloped potatoes and Eric Clapton? GRIN
Katie, hope you get over your stomach bug/headaches soon.....could the headaches be residual from the hit and run?
Susan...sounds like y'all are on a lucky streak....hope it includes this job. Fingers crossed for ya.
Have a good day
Jean
Just remember....if it gets a flower...it is no longer a weed....but a Fleed....and if it flowers....it is beautiful.
Will never forget Jeanna's first apartment and her "flower garden". The weeds were flowering....so she thought they were
flowers she planted. Apparently she pulled the flowers out....and left the "Fleeds".
rofl!!
I was told once that anything with a red stem was a weed...... or if it pulls out easily it's a flower lol geeze - too late then!!!!
Morning,
What a gorgeous morning, Paul called at 8:30am just as I arrived, asked how I was doing, told him I would feel a lot better if I was home playing in the gardens....thought he might say 'time for you to retire' but didn't!
Congratulations Mary on winning a ribbon, to think but just a few years ago you were not interested in gardening, now look at you gal..hope you are feeling better..hey, maybe give witchy poo the cold then you can have a quiet week at work (me bad).
Bev, just love your photo's..I have a small branch of wisteria and it never seems to grow, what is the trick? Let's hope this week brings you sunshine.
Debbie, that's too funny about the fleeds..I was pulling so weeds yesterday and think a few flowers went with them.
Susan that's great about selling the ladders providing he doesn't need them.
Jean, I'm sure he'll not disappoint you, will continue with good grades so his education costs are at a minimum.
Katie are you up and at it today?
no Betty, he didn't need 'em
it's 17c already, and not even 10am
It's 75 here..
trying to make a plan for the small pond that needs to be upgraded so the boys can work on it Saturday when they come to do chores..need to pick up supplies but don't know what I want to do with it??
it's 64F now, but going to 81F
usually when Calgary's weather says hot, it gets hotter....... so may get to 83F?!
As it's nice out now, I'm going to do some pruning..
Bob cleared the deck this weekend, while I was at the sale - so nice to see it cleared!
meant to mention - prayers for my cousin (Cher) in Calgary - her MIL passed away yesterday, and her DH, DD and friend living with them are feeling very sad. Her FIL had passed away less than a year ago, and tomorrow was to be their anniversary. Cher said her DH was there with his mom when she passed.
They were living with his DM for the past 8 mo because she needed the assistance and wasn't wanting to go out, etc. Cher says that now they're together for their anniversary.
Guess now they'll move into her home and sell their house (Cher had said that's what they would do, upon her passing).
Sorry to hear that Susan, sending lots of prayers!
thank you, LK
She was a lovely lady, and her son Rod is going to be very sad - having lost both parents within one year.....
I agree, that is very sad!
Susan, I am sorry for your families loss. You know, my Mom did the same thing. Died the day before her & my dads anniversary,
had just kept talking about being with him for it. Mind you she was married to my step dad almost 40 years....but she wanted to be with
my dad. First true love.
They say that most often spouses pass within a year of each other. My g'parents passed within 6 mo of each other, and couldn't Stand each other............
Married for about 50 years
Susan, my DD passed when I was 5....so it was 42 years before mom passed. BUT she never forgot.
Mom always loved the first day of summer, she always celebrated on the first day of summer she was so happy.
I never knew til that last year....that they were married the first day of summer!
As I said, prayers for your dear family during this great loss.
thank you :-)
Hi Everyone, I'm up and moving around. Tony has been and gone. Temperature is rising. I think I'm better physically - the headache has passed - but an dealing with depression. It may be partly the last of whatever bug I had. Or it may just be that I have this disease called depression. It's a disease that says it's not a diseas - the problem is that I am worthless, etc. When this happens I remind myself that how I feel is none of my business unless I'm too sick to get out of bed.
Last year while i was in LA to see Amma I tried to have a solitary lunch. Ended up with six or seven other people at the table. One of them, a man originally from India, moved to sit next to me, took my hand and asked me what kind of work I did. He was being very kind and cusious, not seductive and I opened up a bit and told him about my attempts to increase the number of food plants that are grown locally. I told him that when I wake up wondering what life is all about and with other depressing thought I tell myself to get up and plant some seed. He was so impressed that he silenced everyone else at the table and asked me to repeat what I had said. I was then asked other questions and ended up talking to everyone at the table for about twenty minutes. One young woman moved from across the table to sit next to me to better hear what I was saying. Everyone hugged me at the end of lunch. I remember that when I'm having trouble getting along with myself.
Watched part of Bill Mahar's show. He makes me laugh out loud.
Usually, I watch Ellen DeGeneris early in the morning. She always ends her show by reminding people to "be kind to one another." Highly recommended for those of you at home (or who have TV's at work).
I'm doing some ironing and cutting things for quilts and ignoring how I feel except how I feel about all of you which is good.
hugs, katie

That's life
(That's life)
That's what all the people say
You're riding high in April, shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June
I said that's life
(That's life)
And as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks stomping on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'Cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life
(That's life)
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net ]
I tell you, I can't deny it
I thought of quitting, baby but my heart just ain't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself layin' flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life
(That's life)
That's life and I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cutting out but my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothing shaking come this here July
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die, my, my
(BUT HE NEVER DID) GRIN
Sending you big hugs Jean for your kindness to all of us here including our Katie..
Katie, think from time to tme we all get those thoughts, hard as it is, stand up, look in the mirror and see what's in your soul..you may have had one of the most rotten childhood and adulthood but it's made the woman you are now, a thoughtful and loving woman who is trying her best to better mankind..out you go on your deck, look at the beautiful view, smile and say 'what a life I'm living, it's one of value!'
Hug hugs and more hugs coming your way
Susan, how very sad..will add them to my evening prayers
thank you.......
Gee whizzz only a few hours since I posted and so much gossip to let you all in on..
Spoke with Ann, her daughter Melissa is expecting twins and here Ann thought she would never have grandchildren..Melissa is in her mid 30's, expecting mid October...apparently she has been unwell, spotted a few times, may have to have bed rest..think that Ann is beside herself with excitement but having so much trauma with illness/death the last year or so she is very concerned about Melissa's I'll health.
Then spoke with Rita, (Barb, you and Norm were at her house on the lake when we visited Sharon) they think they have a buyer, if so they will move to their house on Lake Simcoe, I'm not thrilled to have her move an hur away but that would be wonderful for she and Gerry.
Darlene also called, I told you she bought a place on Colwater River, takes possession mid September, would give her a month to organize herself in her new home then off to Florida for the winter..well her home is not listed as yet but the realtor who sold her mom and dad's place brought someone over to see the p,ace and are very interested, while we were gabbing they called, wanted to know expenses re heat/hydro/propane and said likely there would be an offer coming in so she's excited, would give her a good start to a new life.
Lots going on..
Debby's, how is Izzy now that she has had meds/baths?? Hope she is on the mend.
Was going to go out and weed when I got home but true to form Mondays seem to be my lazy time, doing nothing, not even sure if I'm hungry or not so no cooking!
