Morning all,
Had a young lad come to my door last night, said he had a few hours tonight and tomorrow night that he could help rake...we're experiencing heavy downpour this morning and are calling for same tomorrow, not what I need nor does Huntsville , gravenhurst, few towns north of me
http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/04/22/ontario-communities-hit-by-flooding-hope-worst-now-over/
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friends..
So much damage, in the millions they say and the flooding not expected to recede for awhile.
Won't have help in this rain, he was only able to help today and tomorrow and both days heavy rains..oh well, I'll just keep plugging at it!
on last of 4 panels for the memorial tie quilt throw, hoping to have the top made today so over the next few days I can finish it and deliver it..next on MUST finish is the eagle. As you can see I'm filling in my days
Drats, how within an hour can one come down with a cold, runny nose/fever and sneezing non stop?
rain has turned to snow, talk about yucky out there.
Had Marg, Roger's sister spend the day at the office with Suzanne and I, had a lovely day..she's going through terrible times so it was nice hearing her laugh.
I got the memory tie quilt top done, hurrah..wanted to quilt it tonight but bath/hot chocolate is calling
Oh yeh, bought a riding lawnmower and wagon that goes on it..oh happy days..if it doesn't work out someone will take it!
Hope your feeling better soon Betty. Seems you have had your share of colds lately!
It's the changes in the weather, one day it's sunshine, the next snow/rain..of course raking and working up a sweat when evening is setting in doesn't help..by morning I will be fine.
How is your weather, still above normal temps?
Had a daffodils peak his head out today, now seeing snow he's likely sorry he did.
DEBBIE, waiting anxiously for report on Shanon.
Deb, you feeling better?
Susan, come out, come out wherever you are.
Dianne, hope your lake is controlled and no flooding?
Watching Ghandi, wonder how quickly I will doze off and not get to watch it in its entirety
It is cool today with a cold front that came through last night, only 61 today!
Betty, she was tested, poked and prodded. Ultrasound to check out neck, arm....liver, gallbladder, kidneys, the works. Still waiting for some blood work...but overall everything is improving. Clots clearing up.
However, they do not know what is causing this. Next stop, neurology. We have to get appointment set tomorrow. Although I am thrilled they didn't find
cancer or anything.....what is causing this and what is a solution.
Doctor said it could just be a long term effect/affect from her Endocrine system not working, causing these issues. Pituitary gland is 1/3 size it should be,
Hypothalamus does not function properly, nor does thyroid and adrenal glands. All of this messes up the hormones, aches pains etc. She has the fluid issue in the brain. SO probably a shunt down the road....but still, shot in the dark if that will fix these pain issues. Still does need tonsils out and biopsied...set for June 7.
Good morning all. Where is everyone? Betty, are you okay?????
Deb, sorry you didn't get the answers you wanted but they will come soon I'm sure.
Yesterday was beautiful here with temps in the low 70s. I actually got out to the quilt store and I felt like a released prisoner!!! I must have spent the better part of an hour just wandering around looking at all the new fabrics and toys. Ususally with me it is just in and out. It was fun.
Got the first five totes done for Apr and the last five will be done today. I'm feeling good that I have maintained this committment I made to myself. Like resolutions, I will make them to me and always seem to fall short but not this time...
Brandon popped in for a few minutes last night to tell us of his band trip to Disney. He had a wonderful time. And Mary, he just glowed when he was talking about all they got to see and do and what an honor it was to march down Main Street with his band. Of course, it helps with the view of everything when you are in the front row of the band!!!! We could just see the excitement in his eyes. His school horseback riding team has their first show on Sat. He is riding a new (to him) horse this year and it will be fun to see how he does.
And I can't write of B and not talk of Sean as well. He is going great guns with his baseball playing on the town team and one from the sports center where he goes. It is games every Sat, Sun and one or two times during the week and the other days are practices! His dad, Scott, is so good about seeing that he gets where he needs to be when he needs to be there. Our boys are growing up and so busy now.
I'm off to go get my car registered for another year. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.~~~~~~
Morning Barb, glad to hear you had a nice shopping trip!
You must be so proud of those two! Sounds like they are doing well!
Morning,
So glad the meds I took last night left me without a cold this morning..did have a light blanket of white snow this morning..poor little daffodil likely doesn't know what to make of it!
Barb, wonderful that the grandchildren are doing so well..know how proud you must be, they are 2 fine young men.. I feel much the same listening to the wide eyed stories the grandchildren tell when visiting. Braedon is in NewYork with his band this week so anxious to hear about his adventure.
I can just see you walking up and down the aisles of the fabric shop, I especially like looking at the notions..so what did you end up purchasing? Did you get my envelope?
LindaKay aren't you off somewhere this weekend.
Morning Betty, yes I am going to Hempstead, Texas, for DG plant round up, going to meet a bunch of girls for the first time! Leaving tomorrow morning, and I will be back Sunday sometime! Joy/Rouxcrew is creating this round up, it will be on her farm, we will get to see the new baby goat, see how she makes her goat milk and cheese...
Betty, there was a segment on the news last night that the tree pollen and such is at a very all time high right now...even with the cold we
have been experiencing. I wonder if that was your "cold". Allergies?
Off and running, need grocery and food planning and errands done.
Barb, you should be so proud of those boys, the are just amazing. Love hearing about them and all of you with little ones.
I might just go to Joann's today. I need something to do!
I am sure one day I will regret the fact I don't have grandchildren.
So odd to have 3 girls and not one can have children.
Enjoy your day
OMG Debbie, what will you undertake, you need to come over and do a rag quilt with me one weekend. Anxious to see what project you'll do.
As for Shannon's results, read and re-read your post, still so much to be anxious about..glad that so far they've eliminated the 'c' word. Bet there will be a big difference in her once her tonsils are out. I've never been allergic to pollen but I imagine allergies start somewhere.
So hoping that the sunshine continues so my worker and get some raking done tonight.
LindaKay, is Hempstead a far drive for you? Be fun meeting up with DG friends..who else will be attending?
Wonder what Susan is up to, haven't seen her online for a few days..
Katie and Deb, hope you are both recovering..
Mary, big armwraps as Judy would say.
Sewing black/white quilt blocks to keep me busy..just got back, picked up a sewing machine for Suzanne that was on sale..knew I'd rub of on her lol
Sunny but about 15 degrees cooler today! I, personally, love it in the 60's with a little crisp in the air at night. At least I can work in the yard a bit after work and not feel like I'm going to drown in sweat!
I found out today that my current boss has declined the leadership of our new division, so he won't be my future boss. :(
I put an ad on Craigslist last night at 4:20 p.m. to have someone come out and pull out some shrubs that are foundation plantings. I got 20+ responses in just 2 hours! The last 15 folks I sent emails to just to let them know that I was covered, and half of those folks sent nice messages back. Competition in the yard labor area must be fierce!
Lanakila, omg thanks for the idea, never think of Craigslist and here I've been searching like crazy for someone to do the raking and not to forget all the beds need edging. Are you re-lanscaping?
Are you said or happy about getting a new boss??? could there be a promotion for you?
I'd have to say I love high 60's to lower 70's..not fond of humidity either..although when I was in NewOrleans last year on holidays I didn't find the heat/humidity 1/2 as bad as what people said it would be, thank goodness...
Good morning everyone,
I am on hold with the IRS and they say it will be at least 15 minutes. They have lost or misplaced the documentation that my income is not taxable and have sent a second bill for $4,000, Very frustrating tho the rep I talked to was very nice. Now I need to talk to someone else and probably resubmit information which I will need to get from my retirement association and they are the most uncooperative people - they are protected both by civil service and the board of directors and their work ethic reflects their lack of concern about accountability.
I've been trying to get the curtains for my front bedroom done. I'm inspired by Barb but it's slow going. I've misplaced a cutain to cover one of the French doors which should give you an idea of the dissarry my home is in
Got a Mexican phone bill for about $70 for basic service. Showed Tony who said "banditos". He will talk to them but i told him better to pay it than to have to deal with another hassle at this point.
Did stock up on chicken legs, fresh orange juice and fruits and vegetables so that is taken care of.
There's a semi-serious problem with my van. A mechanic is coming tomorrow morning to check it out.
Debbie - I've meant to tell you that a girl on my caseload had a shunt and it seemed to help a lot. Don't know if it helps to hear that. What you are handling and the grace with which you do it helps me to keep it together as I deal with civil servants who are not civil and do not serve.
Will be back.
Thank you all for being here.
hugs, katie
.
Betty, it is about a 5 hour drive for me, I am leaving tomorrow, spending Friday night at my son's in San Antonio, then driving the rest of the way Saturday morning. I will spend most of Saturday at the round up, then I will go back to San Antonio, spend Saturday night at my son's again, then back home Sunday.
This is a list of those attending the round up.
rouxcrew Joy + 1
Smockette (Linda Alyce) + 2, Smock & Don
blissed heart Lisa + Zack
steadycam (Marty)
bariolio (Janet + Mark)
BorderPatrol
Trishann (Trishann)
Lynne
Cajun2 (Carole)
ilovejesus99 (sandy)
taters55 (Linda)
Katie, sure hope you can get the paper work you need, and also you find an easy fix for your van!
LindaKay, you just have to give Sandy the biggest 'hug' for me..miss seeing her on DG
Not familiar with any of the other names..it will be nice for you to not only have the round-up but have time to play with grandchildren..be careful driving and do not forget the camera.
Katie, that's expensive for Mexican telephone service isn't it? With call to the government and being on hold it likely will be higher this month. Hope you can get it straightened out!!! Sure wish you could post photo's of the curtains and all you are accomplishing in these projects..I'm sooo nosey aren't I? Are you without wheels right now? How's Tony's family?
Imagine, I'm at work and giving a sewing lesson this afternoon..lol
Talked with Greg, asked him if he's come over to give me a list of lumber I'll need so I can ride the lawnmower into the back shed, said he wouldn't..said he'd drop in, take measurements and make a metal ramp for me so that it will last as long as I'll need it and be much safer..said it would be done for Mother's Day..told him that I already have his and Jeff's day planned with 'to do's' so it would have to be a bonue project..am sure he was shaking his head ..
Betty, I will make sure to give her hugs from you!
thanks LindaKay, she's a sweetie, deserves mega hugs
Home, no sooner came in did I start sneezing and runny nose..now I'm off checking if I've brought anything new into the house?? Either that or it's just the outdoors from car to the house.
Betty , that sure sounds like allergies to me...something in the yard..or do you drive home with windows down?? usually takes a few minutes for things to interact with your system, before it realizes it (your system) does not like something.....
when oak pollen is bad here, I go out and have about three to four steps to get into my truck, drive off...about two minutes down the road, I start coughing...
more than once, I have had to pull over cause I am coughing so much I can't drive!!
people can develop allergies at any age.
Hey thunder, how are you doing?
I am doing ok, well pretty good. good news today at work. I got approved to take time off for when the baby comes!!! so I will be going to NC in May ^_^ big load off my mind there!! sigh sigh
sew now I best get two quilts finished. one for Malena, just needs border now. one for Ryleigh, needs reverse side and quilting...also working on a baby doll bed, with a quilt for Malena. got her a nifty baby doll that sucks on a pacifier, and makes coo baby noises!! hoping she will be happy to take care of her new baby, and help Mommy take care of HER new baby. I will take some pictures when I get them all done. also making Malena a new tutu.
Waving hi Thunder, those girls are high on the most spoilt list. How Gand is that making a doll bed and quilt for it..don't know how to heck we are going to know the difference between real babies and play babies.here is hoping Malena will know the difference or mom will be in trouble..think had they had them when I first got married I'd not have had kids. Lol
Really wonderful news about you having time off to be at the birth, know you were worried she'd be alone..how much time did you gt off..will DH go along with you??
Darlene just called, she put an offer in on a place on the river, all one floor ..if accepted she moves in September..will list her home next week so she is busy purging, big garage sale long weekend in May. Then Rita called, trying to work things out with hubby, got a raise, double what she was making, so she's on a high...nice to get calls from them, the excitement in their voice was wonderful to hear.
I've been in bed since 6:30pm., not sleeping, just relaxing
Imagine me relaxing
The Craigslist ad is going to work out great. The guy came buy tonight to talk with me about the bushes I need taken out and my hubs liked him so much that we are actually hiring him for more work than we initially intended!
There is a reorganization thing going on at work. Definitely no opportunity for a promotion, and I'm not real pleased with the alternatives now that my boss had decided not to lead the new department. We'll see. I've learned that it just saps me of emotional strength when I try to swim against the flow. I'm putting in applications to see what options pop up.
Oh, allergies....
I'm allergic to oak and, of course, I chose to live in the "City of Oaks". We adopted a beagle a few weeks ago and she's an itchy-scratchy mess! Poor thing had yeasty ears and weepy eyes. Just finished meds for the urgent problems and put her on daily Benadryl.
I just wrapped up a sewing commission earlier this week so now I have time to sew something for me! So many projects....
Ohhhh Lanakila what was the sewing commission? Do we ever do just for us??
I'm tempted to use Craigslist, you've got me excited now that you've found the perfect man..wonder if I start the ad as "man wanted". Lol
What kind of work do you do Lanakila if you don't mind me asking?
Could it be nerves re recent move that has your new dog itching! Love beagles..
Our Doxie/beagle mix we had....was allergic to grass! Of all things, she was the sweetest, best dog ever, but when she was about six suddenly
developed the allergy.
Izzy gets that yeasty mess in her ears...poor baby! And Dolly (my Grandpuppy) who is foxhound/beagle family has that also.
On a note for our Pet lovers. Did you know Heliotrope is poison to our pets? A friends neighbor lost her dog to it...severe liver
damage, worst vet had seen. It comes in purple or in white. SO if you have pets...keep an eye out please.

Hello To All !
Barb... BIG SMILE on myface thinking of Brandon's visit to Disney! Yes the Band competition is a huge thing this time of year ! What instrument does he play? If he holds up the standard (with name of the band) he'd definitely be in the front row ! Loved watching DS play baseball... how wonderful it is that both DGS's are so different and enjoy different things...
LK - sadly I missed our swap... in alabama... was just too much $ we are really pinching pennies right now... Have FUN! Can't wait to hear how to make goat cheese... interested in trying to make my own....
Oh Debbie (HUGS) You'll surely have grandkids somehow.... one of the four will produce some, maybe adopt or you'll find some on your own... You're too much of a caregiver to not.
Betty can't imagine snow... Just planted the lupines in the ground yesterday... have planted five of the little pots of seedlings that you brought me now.... can't wait to see how they do.....
Too funny re: Greg... Greg is like my BIL and Jeff is like Lance... Gary (BIL) usually takes better care of MIL than we do (sad to say) because he literally lives a street away. I know they love doing things for you...both of them....
Lanakila - great news on Craigs list.... I had called/emailed a few on there a week ago and got a good response although I couldn't hire any because the repair I needed was too complicated... but I would definitely try that again...
Katie... laughing so hard @ "Civil Servants". Good luck dear....
Susan...where are you and how is the job hunt ? Did you finish Barb's books?
Judy is it PROM yet ? Pics? did you post them already and I'm just slow or forgot?
TGIF! What crazy weeks this has been at work.... I'm excited for the weekend...
HUGS to everyone....
Mary
Morning all,
So nice to wake up and have my coffee with you..Riley is cuddled next to me purring, Missy sitting on the bench looking out at the darkness listening to the birds chirping and I'm planning my day! Won't be the warmest, think 37 but I should be able to rake a bit once my work day ends at 3pm.
Mary, smiled when you said your BIL takes better care of your mom than some of you, am wondering how many times Greg has thought 'now why did she move in my neighborhood?' lol. Me thinks Mary you need time to unwind and relax..this high stress will do you in..take it from me. Let's see, it's weekend time, could you just spend the weekend enjoying your gardens and pool? I too am hoping some of those plants grow to be beauties.
Debbie, going to check on the heliotrope, started to think I might have some but maybe it's hellebore I'm thinking about.
I always gave Sailor benedryl when she had those hot patches and it did help.
I had a cupboard made by local woodworker several years back, had him make the front latch door with a 24"x 24" panel so I could paint a floral design on it..when I got the larger tv I needed room in the living room so out it went to back shed, neither boys wanted it so this morning Darlene will drop by to see if it would fit in her mom's room at the senior home..hope so as I now need the area to house the riding lawn mower. If not maybe I'll use Lanakila's Craiglist.
Morning Betty, hope it warms up for you soon. Getting my suitcase packed, and truck loaded for my trip.
You all be good this week end, and don't over do it please.
Good morning! Yes, Mary, Disney was a fantastic experience for Brandon. He plays trombone (only one in the band!) and is always placed in the front row!!!
He dropped in again yesterday and just had to tell me all about the Harry Potter place. He just loved it! And also loved Epcot. I'm so glad the school planned for the kids to have some fun time - not just go march. The whole band went as well as the acapella chorus. From reports around town, they all had a wonderful time and Brandon said there was not one problem of any kind on the whole trip. Only thing he wasn't thrilled about was the bus ride from New Hampshire to Florida!!!! He brought a can of air freshner with him as he got seated near the only restroom on the bus!!!! He's too funny sometimes......
Betty, it sounds like a good case of allergies to me. Somewhere on your ride you must go through an area containing things you are allergic to. Benedryll to the rescue..... Oh, I posted above on the 23rde that I had received your envelope. I asked if you could post a picture of the block so I can print it out and put it with the template. That would be really helpful to me.
Sounds like Darlene is starting to put her life back together. I'm glad as she needs something other than her losses to focus on. This move will be a big help to her. How is her Mom doing? How is Ann doing now? And her nephew? You all are part of my extended family...
I have just some topstitching to do on the totes and they will be done for this month. Now I can play for me in the new room.
Katie - good luck with the IRS. My son had difficulties with them and found that as long as you work with them, they didn't hassle him.
LK - have a fun and safe trip. Is hubby going with you?
Thunder - So glad you will have the time off that you wanted. These grands of yours are sure lucky little ones - you have been sewing up a storm for them....
Waving hello to all as I'm off to finish up those totes.~~~~~~~~~
Hubby is not going, I have this trip all to myself! Hubby would keep whispering in my ear, are we done yet! I am going by myself, and going to enjoy it! ^_^
Barb, must have missed some of your post..yes will get that to you but about a month or so ago I either mailed you the instructions or e-mailed them..we're they not included maybe with the twisters and the eagle?? Sitting here smilling, I can see Brandon telling you of his experiences, especially that of his seating arrangements.lol
Haven't spoken to mom this past week but now that the weather is better and she can get outside a bit and go to the cottage am sure she'll feel better. Ann's nephew is doing ok, putting on weight, goes for an update on 'c' in a few weeks and hopefully a good report. Ann's daughters who are in their 30's are busy/busy..Melissa is trying to rent out her downtown Toronto condo, LeeAnn is in a nice relationship so all is well with Ann..she has been joining anything/everything there is to join, as I keep busy with crafts/travelling it's her way of coping being alone. They have had the entire subdivision difficulties with ownership of road ownership, that is distressing her. She is planning the construction of a large side deck so her brother is came Wednesday to do the design of it, he needs to take hold of his life as well, he lost is wife shortly after Mike's death, good that they are spending time together.
LindaKay, certainly understand why you would want to go away alone..no pressure of 'is it time to leave yet?'.
That being said I have to say how proud of Debbie's Paul and Judy's Steve when they were at my gathering..both relaxed, enjoyed all our chatter and there was no hint of being anxious to get home..then of course was Barb's Norm, he even opted to do crafts with us...great bunch of men so who knows, you may want to reconsider his going
Betty, I should have a picture of my commission in use later today. It was a young lady who is getting married at the courthouse today. All of her friends told her that she'd really regret not having a "special" dress for her wedding but she didn't want to wear a traditional dress so she had one made. It was a 1950's style dress with a circle skirt (crinoline too) and fitted bust. I'm sure she'll post a pic on FB and I'll grab it from there.
No...it seems like I never get around to sewing for me. You know how the cobbler's children have no shoes? I have no clothes that fit. I buy off the rack while always planning to alter to fit. I never seem to get to fixing them, so I just run around in poor-fitting clothes. Let's not even mention the kitchen chairs that need to be recovered, or the outdoor swing that needs cushions, or the 3 quilts that need starting/quilting/finishing....
In my regular life, I'm a secretary. My unofficial working title is "Den Mother"; I'm the student services secretary for graduate students in a department at a state university. Basically, I'm the one they come to when they don't know who to go to. I keep chocolate and Kleenex on my desk to help me cover the essential situations; mate problems, exams, pet deaths, birthdays, bad days, etc. I have my 'kids' from Application-to-Graduation.
From that smile, I'll bet they are all glad you are there!!!
Thought this might make you all smile too!
BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE BUDWEISER
CLYDESDALES
Behind the Scenes look at the BudweiserClydesdale
This is awonderful video!
http://www.youtube.com/embed/PU92XeqhRSA
Oh Barb, I just loved that. Clydesdales bring back so many memories to me. Just touches my heart with their beauty.
Afternoon,
Lanakila, that sounds like a wonderful job to have..I found working with the young ones so rewarding. Bet you are fantastic at it..
Off to watch the link Barb, am sure I'll enjoy. Walkers the farm over from us when I was on the farm had kleisdales and had them in competition, Lordy they are big suckers. ***almost hesitated typing that word, never know what these iPads do to the word..
Here is a cute one as well..
http://youtu.be/pfxB5ut-KTs
Company good part of the day, another 1 1/2 hrs and my weekend begins..drats and more drats, started to quilt the tie quilt and ran out of thread, sooo didn't want to go to town but guess i will have to if I want to fnish this project and move onto another. Not sure I like the finished project, soo heavy even though I skinned the ties and only kept the top fabric.
Kathy whom I bought the lawnmower from drove it here and visited for a bit, then her boyfriend came to pick her up and there went another hour.
No sooner did they leave that June came, she is so funny, asked me if I minded that although Darlene doesn't come painting Tuesday's the girls would like still like to come and sew..could see something was on her mind other than just a visit. She asked seeing as they are now tenants lol could I remove the middle table, seems it makes the room too small...o.k, she did suggest I could fold the legs and put it behind the family room couch..will do so before Tuesday.
Paul just called, wanted Suzanne, oops reminded him I was home and no transfer capably, he just laughed..it's his birthday today so he's in a good mood.
Betty, better be careful what you say or you will end up with a new phone system at the house with new capabilities!!!
