Best/Worse/What did I learn today?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm listening to the news now - looking to see what they say about threatening letters........

Victoria Harbour, ON

On another thread they said that the newsmedia released this info and NOT TRUE..you'd wonder how that could be???

Verona, ON

Saw that too LK. Guess one of the newsies just got a little ahead of themselves. News at 5! I swear I am addicted to the news be it in print or on the screen. That's my daddy's fault. Other kids' dads read them a bedtime story..... my dad read me the newspaper.

LK I have been meaning to ask how Luna is doing? Does she go with you when you go away?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

it may have been an unintentional leak, and now they're doing damage control?!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I've only started paying attn to the news since I got on these threads........ never bothered with tv or newspaper news before........... or weather beyond what I get here.
Now I'm up on what's going on around the world lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Maybe..

Think you were raised in the right fashion Dianne.
Can't wait to get home and do some raking!

Are you making anyheadway?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Susan, not so sure knowing what is going on in the world is a good thing.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

It's been said that the happiest people are those that Do Not listen to the news or read the newspaper in the morning, before they start their day. I can certainly understand that.
However, how are we to support each other in joy/pain if we don't know what's happening in our friends and family's part of the world?

Victoria Harbour, ON

that's true, however sometimes its just so overwhelming..another hour to go, nothing like looking forward to going home.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I find it overwhelming as well. Some days I can't handle my own emotions, let alone those at things like the Boston Marathon.
I find I can support those I know, but cannot "take on the world".

I got a request for an interview with an employment agency, on Friday am - for a 5 month contract position (may be extended). I'm one of three she's recommending for the position.
We'll see.
lol she asked me if I were interested in an update of my resume - and it's Just Been updated by another agency LOL
Oh, just realized I never had breakfast OR lunch, and I have some studying to do for tomorrow's Bible Study......... cya later!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good luck on the interview Susan!
Dianne, Luna is doing fine, she has turned into a large lapdog, she loves to cuddle, and she loves to go for a ride. All I have to do is grab my purse, and that tail starts wagging so fast!

Verona, ON

Aw LK I am so glad to hear that about Luna. She just needed someone to love her and make her feel wanted and special. I am so glad you will be her forever home. Diesel thinks he is a lap dog too. I think our Miss Izzy thinks the same thing, right Debbie?

Sending positive thoughts for your interview on Friday Susan.

Lyndonville, NY

Yes, that sounds exactly like Izzy..from the tail wag, to the lap dog and car rides!

She was out side playing for some time today, and still doesn't want to stay inside.
I was out enjoying the little bits of color around the yard. Just a few...but it is a start.

The red is the neighbors tree across the street.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Happy Birthday Bev. You share the day with my Norm and I think both of you are blessed.

I think Spring has finally started here in NH. I saw my first robin yesterday and almost all the snow is gone. Just a tiny patch in the corner of the yard.
Also, I can "hear" Spring in some of your posts. There is a tad happier sound these last few days. Hope it continues as I think we all need it.

Boston has become a nightmare. My BFF here has a DIL in a Boston hospital for chemo treatment and the hospital in still in lockdown and nobody can visit her. She is so very depressed even though she does understand the reason for the lockdown. All those poor people. The 8 year old boy who died: his mother has a brain injury and his sister has lost a leg. How do you cope with things like this? I would be tearing my hair out by now....I just want to crawl down in my own little corner of the world when things like this happen.

Norm is due home soon. Off to get his cake ready. Waving to all ~~~~~~~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Happy Birthday to Norm!

Betty, don't over do it again raking, or you will have another kink in your neck! Have you called the Dr. yet???

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Happy Birthday, Norm!!!
Happy Birthday, Bev!!!!

Lyndonville, NY

LindaKay, I know Bessie Lou did not call the doctor because she is IGNORING us! We would have heard about it if she did...but she ignored
it totally. Did you notice that?

Happy Birthday Norm! I hope you have a wonderful day.

Barb, I was watching a special about the little boy on the news, so so sad about his family. Both his sister and Mom are in critical condition.

Supposed to be in mid to upper 70's tomorrow....but cold in 40s' high by Saturday again.

DH wants to go out for Chinese food, I won't argue tonight.

Susan, good luck with that job/interview.

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Happy birthday Norm..hope Barb spoilt you big time. How horrid for that poor family, they must be beside themselves, just how do you cope.

Debbie, I cannot believe how further ahead you are with gardens than we..look at that color..what is the shrub/tree'd name?

Debbie/Dianne your legs must go numb from the weight of those lap dogs

Susan, let's hope it pans out, employment even until early fall would be welcome..how many weeks must you work in order to claim unemployment insurance.

LindaKay, only way I feel energetic is to get out of the car and start working without coming inside otherwise I'd get nothing done.

I no sooner did i get home and rake and fill one wheel barrel full that the young girl who asked if I needed help the other day arrived, asked if she could rake? didn't take me but a second to hand over the rake..told her not to overdo, if she rakes the front bed and right side of deck tonight I'd be pleased..will show her the other beds and if it doesn't rain this weekend she can have a go at it...so here I sit, Riley cuddled bedside me, both playing lazy!

Must start dinner, time consuming, bowl of soup. Lol

Verona, ON

Oh my Barb you make sure you give Norm a kiss and a hug from me to celebrate his birthday. Did you bake a cake?

Chinese food sure sounds good Debbie. That is the 1 thing I miss the most living here - being able to go to a good restaurant or have food delivered.

The day has been absolutely wonderful and I imagine Betty will be out raking until well after 7pm tonight. I've called it a day outside but think I will sit on the dock for awhile. Our dock faces west so we get the afternoon and evening sun. I think the next time I have some muscles here I will carry down the loveseat to go on the dock. Forecasting rain but if it isn't tomorrow afternoon I think I will check to see if I can get my hand and arm into the lake so I can start working at scrubbing off the zebra muscles. What a mess they leave but this time of year they scrub right off!

Blooms look lovely Debbie. I have some crocus and snowdrops blooming. Also some tulips, hyacinths and daffodils poking through the soil. My Oriential Poppies are also poking out their heads - the leaves are about 4 in out of the soil. I love them and these 2 are the dark red ones.

Time for Diesel and I to goo sit in the sun on the dock.
D

Verona, ON

We crossed Betty. Glad to read the young lady turned up and is raking for you. Wish you could clone her and send one down to me. The kids in this area just do not want to work after school and those that do are busy on the family farms. I have in previous yearsa called the Guidance Cousellor at the local high school looking for someone to help out in the yard. The best response I got was from the one who told me if I found someone would I please call him and let him in on the news that there was a teen willing to work. Sad isn't?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - DUH on me........ not sure how many weeks before earning EI, but I didn't apply when I finished my last contract, and went without any income since end of Feb........
I applied for it again, and have to wait for 2 weeks waiting period before I get any $$. I really thought they'd have another contract for me, but obviously not....
Anyway, this 5 mo contract pays $6/hr more than my last job, so here's hoping I get it. It May extend as well.

siiiiiigh I feel so "stretched" and tired. My friend asked me to go to a Jewelry Show tonight (not a home party, but one with vendors, etc). I passed on it. What's the point of going somewhere where they sell stuff that I can't afford? It would be depressing, if I weren't already lol

Bob came home and took the car - he's working late tonight, and in another part of the city from where he worked during the day, for the same company. It will be 8pm when he's finished, so bus service isn't that great then.
They let 2 people go, because of their attitude, etc. One of them was told by their boss to set up the scaffolding properly and he said "it's fine and right the way it is". Well, the boss walked by the scaffolding, and it Fell On Her! Boss let the fellow go....... no DUH! What an idiot. She knows her job, and to argue with the boss is not smart, esp when the scaffolding then falls on the boss......... She's ok - on the job today, but then she's tough......

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, you are asking ME about trees? OK, it might be a Northern Red Bud tree, OR....a mock cherry. If and when I see Carla I will ask her, but
don't hold your breath.

AND, you still ignored the doctor question!!!

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Happy Birthday to Bev, and Norm :)

pretty plants Debbie, Izzy looks like she is enjoying the sunshine !! how is miss Shannon today??

Victoria Harbour, ON

It is sad Dianne, there were at least 3 or 4 boys, likely around 13 asked gem and they just shook heads and said no..think a lot is the parents as they give gem everything without having them work for it..I'm actually sitting, having soup, watching the young miss working and feeling guilty. Lol

Must be nice sitting out on te lake, it's spring that I miss my home on the lake the most. Wonder how our region is going with zebra muscles..was a great concern i they were travelling from lock to lock..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Same here Thunder, Sailor would be out enjoying freedom after housebound all winter, trying to con someone to throw her a ball

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debbie, she is still ignoring us!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

tsk tsk tsk........ Betty ignoring peeps? lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry, Debbie is right, no call to the doctor..he'll just say I overdo so what to heck. Gee whiz thought if I kept posting nobody would notice I wasn't answering..you know me too well

This is the birdbath dish I had to replace due to forgetting the other one outside.

Then Missy is enjoying the two quilt throws I worked on these past few days..drats you would think I'd have 1/2 yd white or beige to finish the project tonight but nope..did finish the strip borders, guess I'll drop in tomorrow and get some yardage then in the 'to quilt' tote they go lol

Young lady said she had to go for supper so didn't get all she was going to try and do done..oh well, every little bit counts..maybe the $15 and the pop I gave her for 1 hr. of work will encourage her to come back another night

off for a bath

I know, we can't get away with anything can we...always a dg friend checking up.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

lol Betty! No, you can't get away with anything......

Lovely birdbath, Betty! I love it esp cuz of the cute little froggie (I AM partial to frogs, y'know!)
Too bad the young lady didn't finish today. $15/hr? terrific pay - I'm sure she'd come back tomorrow....

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

I used to watch the news all of the time, until son joined military. After that I just could not deal with my emotions. Rarely watch it now. I hear from friends and family. May be selfish I don't know?? I support when and where I can. I just get very depressed, much to easily.

I try to start my days happily.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thunder, support you in letting family friends filter through it and provide you with the "need to know" tidbits.

Cannot image watching while your son was deployed, I'm not quite sure how you got through each day

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Lots and lots of sewing, a fantastic husband. And a wonderful son still at home, always ready to give me a hug !
And knowing all of you ALWAYS have all of our troops in your prayers...

Honestly, sometimes I don't know how I get through it.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, your blood levels on those testing for kidneys was off....you need checked. Never mind the aches and pains from "over doing". You would be
ringing me out if I did that miss!

Oh Thunder, I so understand that feeling. My Ex was a marine and when we first got married he was "frozen" to base when the Iran Hostage crisis
hit. We lived in Washington/Virginia/Quantico area. No phone calls, no contact....I understand your not wanting to watch TV.

I had an episode tonight. We ended up going out to dinner at a new restaurant run by a family we knew. Well, the entire family came in to
eat while the others worked, and they had Karaoke set up. There was a little guy about 3 running around, and I just lost it. Tears just started
flowing and I couldn't stop. Miss my son so so much.

Shannon went into work but has text twice she isn't feeling good. I know part of it is anxiety on top of everything else. She is worried now about
possibility of having to have a "port" put in for blood access. I think we are all just overwhelmed.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Many hugs to you Debbie. I do know exactly how you feel. Mine grew and turned around, hope yours will do the same and SOON ♥♥♥ ♥♥♥

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

(((((((((Thunder))))))))))))) (((((((((((Debbie)))))))))))
I can't pretend to understand what you go/have gone through with your family as part of the "troops" (past and present), but do know that I am here no matter how you feel..
We are so proud of any of Canadian or US troops that are There for us!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, talk about rain..wow

Prayers once again to those families who experienced the devastating bomb of last night..overwhelming all the sadness that has occurred this week. LindaKay, sure hope you've no family in the area..

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, that wasn't a bomb last night. It was a fertilizer plant in Texas. It caught fire, and because of the items they made....made an explosion
like a bomb, leveling the town. Sure is scary, but as of right now, nothing to say it was an actual bomb planted. Started as a fire at the plant.

No rain here yet, but is overcast. Supposed to be in the 70's today.

Victoria Harbour, ON

that's actually what I meant, guess the Boston bomb was on my mind

Glenview, IL

good morning...

and so it rained and it poured!! 9 inches total at the moment.
Our entire sub division floating...and with that, We have about 4 inches to swim in, in the basement, which included a a nice waterfall down the steps!!!
ahhh, got to love that first Spring storm...so much for my little prayer song yesterday!!! DH staying home from work.
Fortunately in preparation, I made sure every thing was up off the floor & swept, lol not that it matters now, but we won't loose anything, whew...
Well, its not done rain to come all weekend!! LOL maybe i will go to the cottage.

Left half hour earlier to get Jake and Becky to GBN for there State trip!! Good thing, it was a slow canoe ride. But they are off and I'm back & off the the roads.
OK, MUST get some Java and a smoke...be back in a bit.
