Wow talk about a morning, wind/freezing rain and snow mix in just for fun!!

Glad I'm home for the weekend.

Lordy I slept from just after 4:30pm last night till about 1/2 hr. ago..should be well rested.

Hope you've all got sunshine (except for Dianne and Debbie who likely have my weather).

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Thank you all for your wonderful birthday wishes. I did have a good day even if I did spend the first 4 hours cleaning house, buy hey....$$$$!!!! Son stopped by with a pressie and talked for a while, then off to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Bill offered to take me to the casino to finish off the day, but it was already 7:30 and the girls are picking me up at 10:30 to head out for lunch and some garden centers, so I declined. Said I wanted to do my nails, and he gave me a raincheck.

Hope you all have a wonderful day. I'll try to catch up with the thread soon!!

Good morning,

Joyce a belated Happy Birthday! Texas Roadhouse is pretty good, I hope you enjoyed it. Enjoy today!

Betty, we have the wicked weather also. Not so much ice right now as we had yesterday, but the wind and rain are horrible.

Shannon works today and tomorrow, so is on her way there.

Stay warm and cozy everyone

Debbie

And I have your weather too Betty!!!. Just a plain miserable weather day......

I had a great conversation with Judy the other day. It is always such a treat to laugh with her.....

My sewing room is now almost completely empty - doing the floors tonight and then tomorrow after horse show with Brandon (weather permitting) we will start to build the new cabinets and start to put the room back together. Now I'm getting anxious!! Everything is in totes and boxes in the middle of my living room floor!!!! The new storage cabinets are still in the boxes in the garage and I'm still waiting for the new cutting station to arrive at Home Depot and get picked up. I bought a kitchen island cart that will give me a 53" X 30" cutting surface - my new mat is 36" X 24". This leaves me enough room for an Ott lamp or two. It is 35" high which will be great for my back with no stooping. And it has storage cabinets and drawers under for my supplies.... So very slowly but surely I'm getting there.

Norm had his three month checkup at the cancer hospital yesterday and everything is good. Three more months and then another PET scan if insurance will allow it...I must say these insurance companies are really getting to me in that a doctor's orders don't mean a thing anymore. They decide what you can have and what you can't. Pretty soon we will eliminate the doctor, become our own and just deal with the ins companies ourselves. Just think, I could be telling a heart patient that he doesn't need an echocardiagram!!! Enough of my ranting!!!!

I'm off to do a bit of cross stitch this morning and then a haircut. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Oh Barb, if you are just getting the rain today....expect it the next 3 to 4 days also. This is one huge storm system and we have not
even seen the sun all week. It has rained almost non-stop since Tuesday

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I know Deb - that is what they are telling us too. The rain started here yesterday mixed with ice and sleet. B's first horse show is supposed to be tomorrow and Sean's baseball games are both Sat and Sun this weekend!!! We are finding that a lot of the weather was drying up trying to get over the Green Mtns in Vermont before it got here but that isn't happening any longer. For a while we were really dry and were worried about fires. Not now!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Barb, our new sewing room is going to be so nice, bet you can't wait to get it all together.
Betty, glad to hear you got a good nights sleep. Been awhile since you have done that!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Has anyone heard from Liz?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Barb - good that Norm had a good check-up!!
I understand where you're coming from re: insurance companies!! Wouldn't it be lovely if they believed the Drs who trained for yea these many years vs their training (NOT!!)
I think they figure the patients ask for something and the Dr gives in........
Going to meet a friend for coffee at 10am, so made her a gluten free loaf of bread - geeze, I love my bread machine!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb that is wonderful news about Norm, bet you both gave a big sigh of relief. Here is hoping further testing can be approved. Can't wait to see photo's of your room, exciting to have an organized work area, everything at your fingertips..I try, achieve the look I want and then within hours it's back to organized kaos. You crafters know what that means.

Jean hoping that the weather is co-operating for you to entertain family..weeks are flying by, soon you'll wonder how their visit was so short.

Debbie, although these days haven't been the nicest they are however great days for you to finally stop rushing around and just get some of your energy back..how have you been feeling?

Nope, haven't heard from Liz in a bit..am sure she's busy keeping Kenny in line lol

Hmm Susan, you just gave me the nudge to go upstairs and put the bread machine on..perhaps I'll cook tonight and really surprise myself.

In between my sewing I've managed to completely wash bedding/blankets,dust and vacuum..mixing a bit of work with play..only had 2 calls so far this morning, everyone must be home due to the storm.

This week has been a good sewing week, finished off a queen size christmas quilt to using all my leftover strips, likely have enough to do one more..will have a tote full of tops ready to quilt once christmas fabric comes out in Oct./Nov. With weather such as we are having makes me think late fall..also a gorgeous black/white quilt with all the 5" squares I had.

Have 2 rows to finish the quilt I'm doing for a wedding so that will be today's challenge. Pat and June called, they want to drop in tomorrow to put a child's crib size quilt on the frame which means I have to also finish quilting what is on it now so it's free to use..
when June called I said it was a grand day to sit and relax..she said in the 20years she has know me not once has she seen that..lol

Aunt Muriel also called last night asking if she could bring her flannel over to put through the accu-quilt so she can work on another rag quilt she wants done so at some point she'll come a knocking..

as you can see, even though I'm in my jammies I still have much to do..won't be the first time company sees me in them. (grin)

have to go turn up furnace and put on fireplaces on, can feel the dampness.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - nice thing about the bread machine is you Can't Burn Anything! (hehehehe couldn't resist......)
Just one thing to remember - some machines want dry first, and wet last. Mine wants wet first, and dry last......... Check instructions for your particular machine, and Always put the ingredients in the order listed (whether from last to first, or first to last).
I love my bread machine!!!!!!!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Boy, all this talk about bread machines, makes me want to go out and buy one. Love the smell of bread baking.
Betty, your not alone, it is 11:18 here, and we're still in our Jammie's. We have been outside, cleaning up winter trash, leaves ans such. Guess it is time for lunch pretty soon.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I felt guilty being in my jammies so threw on a pair of sweats..almost jammies right..ohhh no wonder I'm hungry look at the time

I just asked Paul to bring home a rotisserie chicken from Sam's club on his way. I can make some cheese & garlic biscuits and
a side dish. I just cleaned the kitchen and don't want to tear it apart.

Maybe I should have suggested dinner out! LOL

Betty, I have been on a medication, gabapentin, for nerve pain since February. Well, it was causing more problems with side effects, so
I have been slowly weaning off of it. Those issues....have not been fun. I think I will do much better once I know what is going on with my girl....my mind is just whirling 24/7.

Did have a funny....Shannon went to the doctors Wednesday to get her Vit. B shot and he said "where is your mother?" Well, Shannon said "She is home, I think she is about to start drinking!" SO...Doctor called me to see what this child was doing to me that made me want to start drinking! LOL He is a comedian, and makes us both feel more at ease.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

First two pictures are the sewing room right now and the next two are my living room and dining room!!!! Last is my lazy kitty Callie. Position is everything right????
Edited because I can't spell today.....

oh Barb it will be so worth it to have your sewing room just as you want it..can't wait for those boxes to be open and then put together, tremendous abount of work yet ahead..Callie doesn't seem one bit worried lol

Debbie, know you've had a time of it, and you are right, likely once Shannon is on her way to a full recovery you will feel so much better . Once the sunshine comes as well, know how you love taking your photo's outside.Too funny, nice to hear that some doctors have a sense of humour and he's gorgeous to boot, can't get much better than that!

I finished the christmas top done with left over strips, tried to push Missy off the bed so I could lay it out to take a photo and to see how it turned out..she wasn't having any of that sooo if you see a bump on the right hand lower side it's not my mattress it's a stuborn cat.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wanted to post photos of the christmas quilt top and the black/white top that I've done with scraps..now they goes into a bin waiting for quilting along with 4 more..lol

have christmas fabric to do major project but this is all I have left of scraps..likely a little wrap could be made..I'll bring them to work Monday and see what I can make with them

Betty -Wow, Wow, and Wow again!! I love this!! LOL on Missy! Is she stubborn, or just Determined?! My G'ma used to say she wasn't stubborn - she was DETERMINED and that's ever so much better lol
I just love the B/W one too - maybe I will be doing one, with Japanese fabric in shades of black and grey, with cream..... will have to look and see what shades I have.
Well, after I finish my Lone Star, then I'll do my Madam Butterfly...... THEN a b/w

Barb - LOL on Callie!

Debbie - LOL on Shannon and her Dr - both have a well-developed sense of humour, obviously lol

Hi, I am signing in! I am at home and going to Physical Therapy 3 x's a week. The people from Good Shepherd (the retirement community where I live) have been driving me to PT and bringing me home. I am still taking a pain pill so I can't drive yet. I am going to try to drive to the store this weekend by myself since i only need a few things. They really work me at PT but that is what they should be doing. I go home really tired and sweating. For a while I didn't feel like doing anything but sit and watch TV, maybe read a bit, but I am beginning to feel more like myself. I have 4 more weeks of PT and then they may continue after that if they think I need it. I am using a walker at home but a cane at PT. I feel more secure with both hands on the walker and if I have to carry something I can put it on the seat and not have to balance it on one hand. Since the knee surgery was only 4 weeks ago I think I am doing pretty well. I hate to be on pain med but the knee can really hurt especially after PT.
I did make it to the sewing house last Tues. One of the gals brought me my machine so I didn't have to carry it. I'm not working too fast but it is good to be back at the sewing machine.
One of the gals lent me two books by Jennifer Chiaverini who write books about guilters. The one i have is called "The Giving Quilt" and it is about the various women who go to a quilting retreat to make quilts for Project Linus. She write beautifully and you feel like you really can see the women she talks about. They are all ages, races and parts of the countries, like we are, and each has her own story. I think any of you who sew would love these books.

Lyndonville, NY

(((Janice)))) So good to see/hear from you! Sounds like a wise decision to keep the walker in front of you, especially being home alone. I used a cookie sheet on the front of my walker with my health issue....to carry plates and such. It helped. The books sound very interesting. I love the Project Linus.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hey Hey Hey... Janice - have missed you, girl!
Sounds like you're getting around just fine with your walker and cane. Glad to hear they're "working" you the way you feel you need to be.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Waving hi Janice, it's a long trek back with pt..hurts like the dickens and you have to wonder if it's worth it but it is. Be frightening relying on ones own strength walking with a cane in the house, trusting the walker will give you more security..you'd hate to take a fall at this stage of the game. Nice that you have friends close by to watch over you!

You will be so glad to have it behind you. Will have to see if our book store has the Giving Quilt, sounds like a must read.

How is Chris/stacey and the kids..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Any of the Jennifer Chiaverini books are a great read. It may be worth your while to check publish dates as each one seems to bounce off the last one. She has written several of them....

Morning,

Another stay in and play kind of day..was going to go to Walmart early this morning but decided not..

Riley is enjoying her morning watching bluejays alternate with visits from my pet squirrel

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

You have a "pet" squirrel?!?! How cool is That?!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not sure how long squirrels live but this one seems to have been here a few years..not frightened of me so guess I could qualify him as my 'pet'! Lol

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

lol According to boobooinc.com:
How long do squirrels live?
The maximum longevity in the wild is somewhere around 12 years. However, most don't live that long due to the many predators that they fall victim to, due to the lack of food in the wild and for city squirrels being hit by cars shortens their lives. In the wild, many will not live past their third year. However, in captivity squirrels have been known to live to be twenty years old.

Omg Susan, likely he and I will end our days as friends..lol
Thanks for the info

Suzanne's son Bryan just called, has patches to sew onto his jacket..his dad tried but apparently screwed it up so the call came, 'can you help Aunt Betty?' upon yes, 'you ae a doll'. Kids sure know how to sweet talk!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

He's right - you R a doll!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

What a day! Started off cleaning a spot on the rug behind DH's chair....and um, someone got carried away, and we no longer have wall
to wall carpet in the living room & computer room. It should have been done long ago, but dang, lots of furniture moving, staple pulling and cleaning! We are both exhausted.

Shannon came home from work and says "this is what happens when you two are unsupervised!" DH has haircut at 6:00 and we are
going out to eat.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bet it will be so much easier for you to clean Debbie..will you be painting the wood floor or can it sanded then urathaned? You will sleep well tonight

finished my round robin quilt..early to bed tonight

Betty, these floors are so so old, nails popping up. Temporary fix til we can buy laminate or such to put down. Have had
problems with one of the cats messing in a spot, and the carpet was so so old...gone through 4 kids....and kids I babysat, never
mind the animals. We had someone in years ago about sanding it down, they said too old. Painting won't help either...floor is splintered
and needs repairs.

Yes, we are both sore as can be.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - that is BEA-Utiful!! I'm pleased I had a part in it!
Debbie - we had a house (circa 1912) that had 70's shag carpet when we moved in..... and previous owners had 2 rottweilers running free in the house, so you can imagine what the carpet smelled like! (oh, and they were heavy smokers, too! phew!!).
We took off the carpet, and were left asbestos tile. Took that off, and in doing so gouged a strip in the Douglas Fir hardwood (softest of the hardwoods) we found under it.
We figured "to heck with it" and just sanded as best we could, painted, the did greek vines and grapes all around the outside and varathaned it all.......... it looked pretty darn good! This was in the dining room, so the grape vines, etc were appropriate.

Victoria Harbour, ON

well Debbie if I win that 55 million tonight you can go shopping Monday for new flooring, ah what to heck add in new furniture..

Yikes, if I won that I'd be shopping Monday for an RV which has a lot of room, boy we'd all be doing a road trip

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Just look at this invention........ no, it's not the latest in sewing items!
