Thanks everyone. It is out of our hands right now and I am honestly more worried about my sister. She is cooking to take more food in tomorrow and I have been telling her not to be upset if mom refuses. I am hoping she will eat but..................
Sweet Interruptions # 350
I can see where you'd be worried about Sue - she's doing a lot of trying to get your Mom to eat, and I hope she's taking care of herself as well.
Susan, great poem sistah.
Marion, I don't know what else to say, except that you're always in OUR thoughts. Sending you hugs my dear.
Yes Kathy you can kick my behind if you want to, but you won't want to do that. Might hurt your foot instead.
Kel has his hands full with bringing Murdock to the doctors these couple of days.
I did call the doctor's office..nurse suggested soaking and for me to 'work' on it. Might take a few days for the very tiny sliver to work to the surface, but it won't kill me sistahs unless it's a rusty nail.
Love you all.
Morning everyone! Jaye, sure hope it comes out soon! Amazing how much something so tiny, can hurt so bad!
Good morning...I think it is still morning.
I am getting so "antsy" to work outside but not to be for another week!! Bummer! I am trying to keep busy doing things inside but boy is this weather making it hard. Making arrangements to have the workman come finish the dungeon....son to busy now.
Jaye, hope the foot is much better today. Glass can be such a nasty sore spot.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts. Sue is trying to take care of herself....not easy as she is one who always has eaten on the run. Not overly picky about what she eats....an order of Mickey Ds fries would do her just fine for a day. She called this morning to tell me mom is now running a fever and was on her way in to see her. Should know more later. Last night she was very confused, no clue where she was and couldn't remember she had cats at all. Scary.
Sending lots of comfort prayers for your Mom Marion!
LK, thanks. Just had a call from Sue and things are worse. She doesn't know Sue and they are having troubles waking her up. Hospice and her doctor are with her now and I will know more details later. I did speak with the Hospice nurse and said in her opinion it is now days. They are going to try a 24 hour intervenous feeding to see if this is the effects of the virus and she will rally but........................
Sorry to hear that Marion. Will you be going down to see her?
I have sent messages to both of my children and am waiting to hear back. Sue said to wait and let's see how the tube works out......my concern is Sue is by herself now. Hard decisions having to be made but that all is part of life. Hospice nurse did assure us that mom is in no pain so for that I am grateful.
That's the disadvantage of having a small family.
Just you and Sue to keep an eye on your mother, Marion. Thank God, she's well taken care of by the current nurses on duty.
Praying she stays pain free throughout this ordeal.
Jaye, she has one sibling left of the 11 in the family. My Aunt is in Englewood (close) and can get to Sue quicker than I can.....our aunt is 84. Who would have believed that a family as large as ours would end up so very small later. I lost a cousin last week about my age.
Sitting tight but make arrangements to go quickly if called. I am having to follow Sue's wishes right now and she wants to stay put. In some ways it sounds like what I did when Ross passed. I needed to do some things by myself ......it just seemed very important I do it that way.
((((((Marion)))))) I'm with you in spirit, if not in actuality....
Bless you. I can appreciate Sue wanting to do some things by herself, especially as she was living close with your Mom. I will be watching the threads to see of any news.
Being pain free is a blessing from God.
Prayers for your mom Marion. Doctors assured us my mom was pain free at the end, and was so thankful for that. Yes, it is a blessing from God.
Sending gentle hugs Marion and prayers for strength for you and your family. God bless you all....
adding my hugs and prayers too, Marion ♥♥♥
Update. The cultures have come back positive for Norovirus and Mom is very contagious. She did rally and ate some soup and yogurt after she had some coffee. First thing she asked for was coffee. Being feed very small amounts with medicine spoons. According to Sue, there are 3 cases on the wing Mom is on and what is called "A" wing is running rampant with some virus. Brings to to ask why is this recycling so badly at the facility. State is doing their yearly inspection now so it will be interesting to see what they write about the place. Yeap, we can check that only line in a week or so.
I see my eye doctor tomorrow rather than Friday but knowing what we know now, I am not sure he will clear me to go down or not. If I go it will strictly moral support for Sue.....which is fine. Both Kim and Charles are ready when I say let's go.
Thanks for all the wishes and prayers. It is in God's hands now.
Norovirus is serious even when your health is good, and at her age it's very debilitating.......
More prayers for her.........
Sorry to hear that Marion, but good to hear she is awake, and eating some. Still sending prayers.
It seems to me, that if a resident is found to have that virus, there should be a quarantine procedure implemented immediately.
Good to know that at least she's asking for coffee. I'm just glad that you're not doing the sistahs gathering, Marion. Everything has a reason.
Still praying for your mum and for Sue's health as well.
Sue was notified this morning that mom has aspirate pneumonia along with the norovirus and she should not come in unless things change again..
Jaye, we keep asking ourselves the same question but then we do know: 1. CNA do not always use gloves nor the protective gown; 2. LPN aren't wearing the gloves nor gowns when the put in IVs, change the catather; repairman came in to un stop sink and put hand in dirty water where CNAs had washed hands after changing her......this we see just with mom so multiply that by 110 patients. State is currently do their annual review so hopefully they will notice all the red alert signs on all the doors and question what is going on. This doesn't help mom but maybe it will help some one else.
Mom will open her eyes this morning but is basically unresponsive. Have eye check today instead of Friday so hopefully I will be cleared to go down....if nothing more than moral support.
Mom had asked to see the great granddaughters but under these conditions we don't dare take them down. Sad but we do have to err on the side of caution.
Sorry to hear they do not follow proper procedures to keep things clean.
Marion - there was something in the news 3 weeks ago about a news team going back (after a year) to see if cleanliness /cross-contamination issues were being addressed. Apparently it was Terrible a year ago, and now they've gotten things Better, but not perfect yet.
There weren't enough cleaners, and they weren't properly trained. They used a light emitter to see where there were germs, etc, and 24 hours later checked again. Some areas had not been Touched by cleaners at all.
Now they've increased the cleaning staff and trained them (especially around the "contaminated" rooms where they isolate patients for either immuno-deficiency or illness/flu etc).
As I said, it's better, but could still improve.
I imagine the US has the same issues......
Hey everyone, we can now add an avatar picture with our posting. Click on your name from a previous post, go to the bottom where it says picture. Click on that, then scroll down to where it says add avatar.
Neato, LK! I had to click on "Manage your Preference" then click on "Pictures".
Great of DG to include this feature.
That's a crying shame Marion. I hope it goes all the way to the Health State Board. Facilities like that shouldn't be an added danger to the residents' health.
I think it depends on the states, Susan. I know that NC and SC have very strict regulations with their medical facilities.
I've never seen such stringent inspections even with restaurants.
If any restaurants were to get a below 90% cleanliness mark, you can rest assure the inspectors would be returning frequently till your marks go up. And below 80% might get you a free ad on the local tv news.
And, restaurants aren't told when the inspections will be conducted.
Same here Jaye, the news reporters go out once a week, after the inspectors have gone through a restaurant, and they put some to shame, no hand washing stations, meat left on the counter too long, cross contamination on the cutting boards, refrigerator's not working...
LK, things must have changed for the better in Texas. That's good for the customers.
My BFF owned a doughnut shop in Houston. The health inspector gave her the inspection date ahead of time. I told her that she'd never make it here, as there are no warnings and scores will be posted where customers can view them.
Oh am I glad to hear coffee is ready!!! Late night and I am exhausted........trying to get things organized to leave. Wouldn't you know it the a/c quit working....yes was hot enough yesterday we needed to cool the house down some. Got a good report on my eye and strange enough..I see before today without my glasses than with them. Might just do without until I get the new prescription.
Cookie, I sure wish i was closer to treat you to a fabulous birthday lunch. Will a rain check do for now. I hope it is one of the best you have had and know I am sharing whatever you do. Enjoy some eye candy along the way. :-)
Happy Birthday Cookie!!!! I'll be right behind to treat you to a fabulous supper!! Yep, missing you BUNCHES girl!
Is that great if you could see without your glasses on? Then your old prescription has become too strong for you. Wow.. what an improvement to your sight, Marion.
Good excuse for you to walk around the house in a bathing suit.. hope you can get that a/c fixed or replaced before June!
Susan, I love that avatar.
Sue, have fun with your girlfriend. Oooh to eavesdrop on juicy girly gossips!!
Thanks for coffee LK. I have purchased a coffee press a couple of months back, and I still haven't opened the box. As long as you're making coffee.. it will stay there!
Sistahs I need prayers.
My niece, Siti, who's 15, has been diagnosed with depression. Mental illness runs in her dad's family. Sister and her DH agreed to put her in a clinic for a week.
I hope this will help Siti.
Her oldest sister, Dewi who's 21, suffers from depression too. She had intentionally missed all appointments with her therapists and avoided meds.
When she was beginning to show the symptoms at age 15, my BIL was in denial and refused doctors' suggestions nor attend any group meetings.
Glad he's learning from that mistake.
This is Siti, dressed up for an International Women's Day parade.
Sorry to hear about Siti, sending out lots of prayers! She is a beautiful lady!
Thank you so much LK. She's also a JD and wears the pump. Due to lack of diabetes education in France, she's shunned by majority of her peers at school. Her depression got worse, when the only girlfriend she has, was transferred to another school.
It doesn't help too when watching Dewi, whom she idolize, goes into severe depression.
Kel wants my sister to send Siti here. Told Kel she still needs professional help and any long period med bills incurred here, won't be highly likely to be covered 100% by France.
will post later - off to Bible Study.......
Love you ALL!!!
Everyone is changing their avatar so think I should look for another too. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, so I should get out and work on the clean up job the heavy winds left for me. DH is going to Auto Zone (truck refuses to start again even with a new battery) so that means a trip to the Dollar Tree Store. I hope they have something new for me to check out. Our 99 cent store is in the same mini mall so may get there too.
Happy Birthday Cookie!!
Your niece is beautiful, Jaye. I hope both of them get the help they need.
I'm looking forward to seeing your avatar, Pegi!
"a beautiful day in the neighbourhood" eh? Sounds like a "Mr. Roger's" kinda thing to say lol
Well, just got home from Bible Study, and someone emailed me re my updated resume on Workopolis....... for an Executive Assistant position. It looks like it's the polar opposite end of the city, but it's easy enough to get to (they will have Parking there!! A real plus as far as I'm concerned!!!!)
Hope that she gets the help she needs Jaye.
Sure hope they call you for the job Susan!
I phoned, but apparently she job-shares with someone else, so is only there in the am, and I called in the pm. I'll call her tomorrow.
Thanks to LK I've got my computer cleared of junk. Found out my e-mail was compromised, so changed password and the technician went through my computer for me. It took hours, but hope it runs faster. Seems a lot of crap is coming in from outside the country. Got a whole new security system set up, going to cost me, but he said I'd have it forever. Guess the money I've been saving for a new computer won't be necessary so will use that for my security fee. He said I don't need new computer now. I thought he was going to have a meltdown when he asked when was the last time I had it serviced and I said "never".
How long have you had this computer, Pegi?
Nice that your techie was able to do this for less cost than a new computer!!
hooray for LK!
