Sweet Interruptions # 255

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Morning Ladies,

Pegi, if you have children put the deed in their name then Medical can't touch it. It needs to be out of your name at least two years before it's your time to go.....

Going to put hot house up today ( I think, lol). Doug tilled the ground and leveled it out. So I got to get my wagon out, head down to old house load up parts for hot house. Our temps are in the 70's may get some rain mid week but this weekend it will be in the 80's..........

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

ROFLOL, Jaye my dear, the package I sent may very well be 25#.....who knows but more will be coming for sure.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Good morning all. Sorry I missed birthdays, but wishing all health and happiness.

I thought about putting the house in son's name, but a little leary about that since I've heard about some horror stories. A couple put their home in their son's name because of a law suit then after it was over they wanted the house put back in their names but son refused and kicked them out. I just can't imagine children doing that to their parents, but we do live in a strange world any more. Well, don't have to worry about Medi-Cal just yet since we don't qualify for their help because they won't honor share of cost any more. Lot of changes with the system (one that needs a lot of change). Our share of cost was so high to begin with that Medii-cal wasn't helping us one bit. Thank God for Medicare! All this stuff really boggles the mind.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

yea your right about the share of cost Pegi, mine is $791 a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My question is did you have Medical before Medicare? This is how it is for me. I had Medical while I was waiting to be approved for SSDI. After my SSDI was approved, I had to wait 2 years to get Medicare, now I have both, Medical pays some of the co-payments and Medicare pays the rest. Medicare is my primary coverage, but if I don't tell the medical ppl that they will charge Medical. I argued with Sutter health over that one time. I kept getting a bill for share of cost for mammogram. It took 4 or 5 letters to get it thru their thick skulls that I told the receptionist NOT to bill Medical, so I never had to pay it. So if you actually DON'T have Medical then you have nothing to worry about. But only reason I said to put it in your child's name is so that he won't have to sell it after you and your hubby pass to pay back Medical. My mom has put me on the deed to her house, so when it's time for me to pass, if I don't take it out of my name two years before I die then Medical will take it. Same for my motorcycle, any assets in my name my daughter will have to sell to pay them back.

Yea California sucks when it comes to Health insurances

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Two years before you pass away? And you're supposed to divine that HOW? lol how silly is that?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

yes i'm taking care of my self, yes will have the sisters reunion.
just got 70 mph straight line winds come threw. this place looks like the wreck of the hesprese

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

That's understandable, Susan. For those that are seriously ill and trying to escape their properties from being seized to settle debts with Medicare.
In Louisiana, it's one year.
Here, Kel's parents had put their oldest son's name on their house's deed, and their life insurance. I'm afraid, he'd be one of those that Pegi's afraid of, the minute Murdock is gone. He'd even enquire whether the property we have is legitimately ours.. for just in case!
My ex' cousin had persuaded his mother to do the same, and unfortunately, once in posession of her property, he placed her in a nursing home.

Cindy, try living in NC. It's getting worse. I don't want to go into it, as I know if this current governor isn't stopped, there'll be no Medicare nor Medicaid help by the time I'm qualified for it.

Sis Kathy, I can't say enough that your health and peace of mind come first. You are laden with more responsiblities now, especially with your new charges. With the new home and that.. I beg you to REALLY be kind to yourself.

Marion, I got the box! Thanks! Haven't looked into it yet. The mailperson delivered 3 heavy boxes, and yours wasn't heavy at all compared to the others.
Gee, I'm so popular today!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

It's set - my mom will move into the Intermediary Care Home in 2 weeks.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Cindy, we had medicare before we even thought of medi-cal. We inquired several years ago about extra help for meds and they said to apply to medi-cal, which I said we wouldn't qualify. They told us to apply for it any way so I did. That way we got extra help from medicare. Now, we don't qualify for that extra help. I know they wanted share of cost to be around $900, who spends that in one month unless you are in the hospital. Now the state won't let us use medi-cal because we have a share of cost. Thank God there are places that can help with some expensive meds. I wouldn't have known that until we talked to a social worker at Kaiser and she is a great help. We do need a supplement for our insurance, but can't even afford that now so what medicare doesn't pay we have to shell out. What ever happened to the so called Golden Years????

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!
Susan, glad to hear your Mom will be moving into the home soon! She will get the care she needs.
Pegi, My dad and myself are on Medicare, and they only pay maybe 80% of the medical expenses. Some of Dad's meds are not covered at all, and that comes out of his pocket. Pretty hard when his only income is medicare.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Whee, glad my box wasn't the heaviest. Do look inside, you might find some magazines you might like to keep. I have another one ready to go to the PO but I refuse to go out again until all this weather settles down. I made one trip to have blood work done and came straight home.....way to nasty.

Kathy, I was wondering if that line of storms would get you. It was so bright at 4 am that I got up to check the weather report....last time I saw lightening like that, a tornado was in the area but alas, no severe weather for our area. It was just one horrendous storm. Unfortunately they are saying we could be getting more. Kim sent me a message after she got to work saying there were trees down on the road she takes to work.....glad she left early because of the rain.

Pegi, I am absolutely shocked by what you are dealing with in CA. We went through the same situation with Ross' prostate cancer but we didn't have nearly as much to pay as you seem to be having. It is so sad things like this happen and yes, it seriously does hurt the "golden years". Sending hugs and prayers.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Good Morning Ladies,

Yup Medicare only pays 80% that is why I got supplement coverage thru AARP. Only reason I did that cuz of needing Hearing Aids. Well, it sucks....last year hearing aid benefit only paid $100 towards hearing aid (mine cost at Least $1800 a piece). This year they went with a different company, all I have to pay is $150 co-pay per aid, but get this................their hearing aids are not strong enough for me. a lady called me towards the end of Feb. telling me this. Then she said she was going to talk to someone to see if a stronger aid could be made for me and still only pay $150, I have NOT heard anything from her since then. Every month $231 comes out of my SS for Medicare and supplement coverage, then I still have co-pays for some things. I quit going to PT for my hand, on top of gas and driving an hour, I was having to pay $15 co-pay twice a week. Besides the things that they had me do at PT I can do just as well here at home, plus I have a friend who is an Occupational Therapist.

I finished plating things on the side of the house, this is where the sun hits the biggest part of the day. I have strawberries that are getting ripe, yum yum. I hope that all the flowers seeds I tossed thru there germinate, it will be so pretty if they all bloom. Next year will probably be better. I don't know what to plant in the tires, any suggestions Ladies?????

Cindy, that will be so pretty when you get it all to bloom! I would plant strawberries in the tires. Maybe a ground cover of some sort, to have it drape over the sides? Maybe some hens and chicks or other succulents?

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

I had strawberries in them last year when they were laying flat. I was thinking of taking chicken wire and lining inside then planting all around? But not sure what kind of flowers, I want lots of color......maybe Petunia and Pansy???

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Do you still have all those pansies? The would look good in them!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

It is another dreary day, wonder what happened to the sunshine. Maybe we will get some rain which we really need. Going to take a walk to the library and pick up a book they have on hold for me.

Now I have found out I can see what is left in the Chronic Disease Fund. Talked to a very nice gal and she was very helpful. The social worker is starting to irk me. She told me to check to see how much funding we had left before we start looking for more funding from other companies. Very little funding left any where. When I called her she asked me why I wanted to know what was left; she had told me to do that a week ago. She talked about the donut hole in medicare so I will have read up on that. After a certain amount paid out they will lower your co-pay. Well, don't think they will lower it lower than the $10 I was paying. This is so confusing, something even a Philadelphia lawyer can't understand. LOL If we didn't get some help there is no way we could afford the meds. Just have to keep applying to all I can I guess and go from there.

Cindy, your yard is looking so nice, puts me to shame. I do see a few sweet peas came up. At least I'll have a few pretties this year.

How is Lola doing, Jaye?

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

LOL I do LK, but I planted them in 4 small flower pots and they are hanging on the rail.

Took my dogs for a walk this morning, noticed all the California poppies in bloom along the levee road. So went back home got my camera and took one dog at a time to get pictures. First Harlee, then on our way back home here comes a big black dog hair raised and barking it's head off at us. Harlee is whining cuz she wants to play with it. I am hollering "Go away" and it's getting closer and closer. Finally the owner came out and called it. Every morning at least two of her 5 or 6 dogs are out running up and down the street. So then I take Amy to take pictures of her, but went a different way. This time I took my wooden cane with me. So there I am trying to get Amy to "sit" when I hear a growling to my left. Son of a gun!!! There is a huge white bull terrier, with his hair raised and barking at me. I moved real slow, grabbed up the cane and hollered at him to go away. The owner was there but didn't know I was there and it scared her half to death when she heard me holler. But I did manage to get some pictures.

The hills in the back ground are the Sutter Buttes, lots of nice windy roads to ride around. Can't wait to get my license so I can ride them. Airplane is crop duster flying over the orchards, behind our house................

OOpise forgot Amy's picture lol She's a BRAT, had the hardest time trying to get her to sit, then she would not look at me, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Doug spoils her rotten!!!!!!

Beautiful, beautiful pictures, there Cindy.
I agree, a concentric circles of different color pansies will pop out for sure. How about inexpensive daisies.. or plant some tall echinaceas.
I hope the crop duster never flies over your house, Cindy.

Pegi, like Marion said.. you too never escape my prayers. At least in California there is another state program and more independant monetary funds.
Bad enough you had to worry over Darwin's recovery and now you have to look around for available funds. Huggggsss Sistah. Keep your humor up!

Will look into the box tonight Marion. LK's box had a few magazines that I covet!!! Probably yours too as my budget was tight for 2 years, except when it comes to the Quiltmakers' 100 Quilt Blocks mags.

Good news!!!! Lola is fine. It's a regeneritive tissue disorder, stemming from an infected follicle!! We'll still have to keep a watchful eye on it, from time to time. This is the first 'hard' case the Vet had seen.
YES, yes, yes!!! Happy we are.
Thank you my sistahs!! Thank you!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praise God that Lola is fine!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

The Chronic Disease Fund that we got funding from is in Plano, Texas so going out of California for help. Most of the other funds are out of state too;. I never realized there was help out there until Darwin's meds were costing a fortune. Sad part is that most of the places are running out of donations. We need all those very rich investors to help fund these places we get help from.

Time for me to take a short nap. The sun came out and it really is nice out. Wish I felt like doing some weed pulling.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Well fiddles sticks, no working outside tomorrow we are to get some MUCH needed rain, yay!!

How many of you know what a Bachelor Chair is????? Well I was given one, so I may work on it tomorrow.

Don't look it up online, I want to see who knows their stuff??? ^_^

I thought I knew...so I looked it up. I was right. cool :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have never heard of it, so I had to Google it. It shows two different types, one is like beach chair, one is a combination step stool, ironing board?

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Yea, I have been wanting one of these for a long time. A man at a flea market had some here made out of oak but wanted $150 that was about 15 years ago.

This one needs lots of TLC...........

What a great thing to be given, Cindy!!
are you going to refurbish it like the 1st pic?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow, that is pretty cool!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Good (very early) Morning ladies,

Yes Susan, going to try but not a quilted design. I have 3 pieces of fabric, two have sewing prints and the other is a butterfly print I got from LK. I need to sand it down a little then going to stain it with a cherry wood color.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Cindy, your up early! Can't wait to see your finished product!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm up early too..... just got home from driving Bob to work....... yaaaaaaaawn
Butterflies..... go figure - now what would you be doing with butterflies on your Bachelor's Chair, Cindy? LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

She has butterflies on everything! She loves her butterflies, like I love my hummers!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I love butterflies too.......... can hardly wait until I finish this DG block ap quilt, the Lone Star quilt, and then create my Madam Butterfly quilt!
I have SO many butterfly pictures, an embroidery picture of Madam Butterfly (thank you Karen!) plus a butterfly fabric which I would use for the backing.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Fantastic news about Lola Jaye. Take any of the magazines you want. I have another box ready to go to the PO but with my vision problem and it looking like rain.....might not be today.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

So that's a bachelor's chair! Never heard nor seen one Cindy. Am curious as how you're going to transform it.

LK, don't we know Cindy. As bad as you are with your hummers, I'm that way with froggies too!

Marion, out of the those books, I'll be perusing 2 dozens!!! Lolol!!!! Wow.. you've sent me some gold along with the mine!
There's already one with some neat kiddy patterns, and thank you, some fresh ideas were much needed!

Sorry for this late posting sistahs. I was catching up on sleep. Now off to find some spinach for some good old fashion spinach soup..
.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

I was rereading post and noticed the time it said I posted........not right, hmmmm need to change the time thingie here. I didn't get up until 4:30

I think Doug slept on my hand last night, lol. Thumb has been hurting like mad today, maybe from relaxing, lol. It's still raining, hope it didn't wash my flower seeds away ^_^

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

LOL I was going by standard time instead of Pacific Daylight............

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

aha - well Cindy - it's now fixed, right?
What are you doing for your hand?
How's your garden? Is it raining quite hard? (gee, I'm Full of questions, aren't I? Yup, there's another one.... LOL)

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh, I wish we would get some of your rain Cindy! I love that bachelor chair and I really could use one. Don't believe I've even seen one before so another thing to keep my eyes open for. My sister-in-law has an ironing board built in to one of her cabinets in her kitchen and that is so cool. She said it sure does come in handy.

Sun came out and I really want to clean up the patio area so I can put a plant stand out there. When you don't know where to put something it seems to go out on the patio so I have so much out there, some that needs to go in trash and others that need to be brought in and cleaned up. Since DH won't be doing much work out there any more I think it is time to clear it out. I have an old ice box out there that is a keeper, some day I may paint it. Has shelves inside for my plant things. I think it was in my mother's garage some 50 plus years ago and she stored a lot of things in it. Then when she passed away my sister-in-law asked if I wanted it, didn't take me long to say yes. I'm such a pack rat!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh Pegi - meet another pack rat, in both my DH & myself..... yikes!!

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Cindy, you will have that chair looking wonderful in no time !! be sure to show us :)
