Sweet Interruptions # 255
It will continue Sue along with the prayers.....
Good morning sistahs.
Sue, how wonderful of you to share Gigi's Garden with the other victims of violent deaths. Perfect props.. living plants.
I know you've honored Gigi that way, bringing awareness to how she came about to be a victim, and of course love that can never be quelled.
You're also giving other victims a voice.
Lola's breathing is loud, I think it's the surgery, as there's the incision under her jaw. But poor baby ate a whole plate of cooked beef last night. She's not a big eater, but I'm sure she wasn't eating at the vet's.
Today is fix the sewing machine day!! Somehow, I managed to mess up the drop in bobbin carriage on the Viking. Gave up trying, and thank God I still have the Pfaff workhorse. Plus, I still have the old Kenmore on standby!!
Might as well try to fix the Singer too!! Lol!!
And I wrote on Marion's wall yesterday that it's time for me to buy another machine! Prophetic isn't it?
No... not doing that. Bad enough I hoard fabric. No more space for another machine.
LK, have you decided on a featherweight yet? The prices are good on eBay.. not that I'm checking!
Hmmm.. no, no, no... can't have another machine for sure!!
Not yet Jaye, I keep looking at them...
Jaye - didn't realize you had 4 machines?!?! I hardly have enough room for one! LOL
Errrr... I actually have 5.
2 Kenmores, made in 1980s, one for parts, which I never need. That Kenmore's a workhorse too. The bane of one that NEVER knew when to get rid of 'stuffs' Susan.
As long as Kel has his workshop.. half of which is mine!
wow - you have a large sewing room then!!
I split my work between a closet (open, no door - and doorway about 7' wide), and a 6' x 2.5' sewing table, and handsewing on the couch.......
Not a large room. Only the Viking is stationary, the rest tucked away until needed.
Right now, the Pfaff is sharing the PC work table. Found it easier to switch between sewing and Facebook!!!
Sending hugs your way Sue, love your idea for Gigi's garden. Just not much going on here, very warm out so I only play in the yard in short spirts. Have a plant in a blue ceramic container that is so root bound and I just can't get it out of the pot. I even let it soak in a large tub of water hoping that would lossen it up. It has been in this same pot for years and needs OUT.
Don't know if there will be a gardening RU this year. Usually have it planned out by this time. Don't know if I'll make it if there is one as DH is still feeling bad. One day at a time is our motto now. Price of gas has come DOWN to $3.99 at some stations and still $4.27 at others. They just keep adding more taxes to it. DH has to renew his driver's license this year, and it use to be $12 and is now $32. No more complaining cause it doesn't do any good!!
Oh what a beautiful day to be outside.......and that was where I was!!! Kim and I walked around the yard checking things out and made some decision about some of the trees. As much as I hate to have it done----some are marked to be removed. Of course they are dead ones and do provided food and homes for some wildlife but they are just to dangerous to have now.
Sue, fantastic idea about the garden. Sending hugs to you and your family.
Jaye, glad to hear Lola is home and seems to have you both under control. :-) Praying for good news!!!!
Thanks Cindy! Hope your feeling better?
Coffee is ready, I am off to the back porch to watch the hummers for a bit.
I just hung my feeder out yesterday, so will see how long it takes for them to come. Hoping the ones from old house come up here.
Not sure if I told you or not, but Doug's mom is living in the old house...someone told her that if she was living there it will be hard for Medical to take the house..............and I have been wondering if all this time she lied to us about getting that letter from the state so that we would move out so she could live there. Her mobile is falling apart and she can't afford to fix anything in it. Only half of the mobile gets power (thanks to Doug's idiot brother, he was doing something and caused it to go out and never bothered to fix it and he's an electrician).
So I had decided to leave her some of my flowers. Well the other day I was down there and she asked me what, was what. Told her lilies will multiply. Next thing I know she had dug them up and brought them up here. Doug told me she does not like being bothered with having to take care of plants. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR if I would of known that I would of dug everything up two months ago. Now I have to wait for Iris to bloom then will go dig them up. They are ones I got from co-opts from DG
Happy St. Pat's Day everyone. Anyone cooking corned beef and cabbage?
LK, I'll be asking Kel to mail out the blocks next week.
Bless your heart Pegi. Praying that financial help will be there for as long as Darwin needs it.
I've never been to a plant RU. The one for NC is just too far for a drive.
Cindy, if the house is slated to be taken over by the state, they'll just give an eviction notice to Doug's mother. Nothing can stop them.
IYou and Dough just consider it as a blessing in disguise, as you're in a bigger home now, and plenty of room for the 4 of you.
Marion, it's that time of the year for tree removal? Soon, you'll have much more sunny areas and the choices would be greater!!
The Vet hasn't given anything for Lola's pain. She has not whined at all, but I know she's hurting as she won't let me touch her jaw. She's too small to give baby aspirin. Hope it's gone today.
Off to treat Kel to a nice steak lunch while I'm sticking to veges again.
Yesterday, I had spinach, yellow squash and tofu. Kel goes "Yuk" but my inards appreciate them! Lolol.
I always have made corn beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day, but this year it just isn't going to happen. DH isn't eating as much as he used to so I decided not to bother.
I read that Medi-Cal will take your house even if it in a trust if you owe them a lot of money. What I'm really mad about is that they let the welfare people use food stamps in fast food places too. I'm seeing the signs in more places saying they accept them. Someone told me they even give the welfare cell phones, don't know how true that is but does the state call that saving money!!!!!!!!! I just put fresh necter in my humming bird feeder, seems the same two are always around. Neighbor's cat sits on the brick fence watching them and I keep pushing him off the fence.
Pegi, I think it's all up to the states regulating food stamps.
Nothing of that sort around here, nor free cell phones.
It makes Kel very upset as we know of one healthy family (his relatives in South Carolina) who thrive on welfare from grandfather to grandbabies.
They work under the table to take annual vacations and replace their vehicles. I wish I could move to SC as it's easier there to get oneself approved for Medicare.
We're off.. see you all later!
Most states do issue free cell phones, they get 250 free minutes each month, and it is covered by those that pay for cell phone. When they get their bill there is a Universal Service Fund, that is what pays for those that get them for free!

This is the company that issues them...

Corned beef is simmer...can't you smell it Jaye? Absolutely we will be having corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes and onions. Kim isn't making soda bread this year so I guess it will be stone ground cornbread (yeap have a place we can get the coarse ground meal) to finish off the meal. What time will you be here?
I don't really want to have to remove trees but there are so many dead ones that it has become a safety situation. I have 3 extremely tall dead ones that are only being held up by the branches of other trees. Heaven forbid we should be outside when the branches give away. I will be so happy when this pollen season is over....I like yellow but....
Pegi, are you sure your home can be taken if it is in a trust. That just doesn't seem right to me......need to double check. We had everything in a trust and now I have done the same. My understanding was it will make things easier for what is left (don't plan on any being left...LOL) and protects things.
Marion, sounds like you need to be careful with those tree's! Do you hire someone to remove them for you?
Boy that corned beef sure sounds good!
Jaye, she already received one letter stating that she owe's $61,000 then she told us she got a letter from the Gov., but never told us exactly what it said. She went to Legal Aid with the letter, they told her to get out in ten days or they will board up house. That was first part of Jan. She then told us that she's sent another letter to the state and has been calling them. I don't know who the person was that told her to live in the house. I don't think they will give an eviction notice, they will board it up after all she has received two letters now from them. Boy if they do come and board it up while she's gone, then her cats will get locked in to. She has stuff blocking back door and doggie door we put in. Weird woman................
Yup you're right LK, free cell phones here too.
Pegi, get a spray bottle of water, every time you see cat out there squirt him. May take awhile but he will stay away.
yes Marion, it's true....the house has to be out of the owner's name for at least two years before they die. If I own anything when it's my time to go, my daughter will have to sell it to pay Medical back (anyone over 55). They will take ANY assets that can be sold to get their money back. This only applies to people in CA who have Meidcal. Not other living trust, like yours is. My cousin's had to sell my aunt's house to pay Medical $139,000. LOL California is NOT a fun state to live in, let me tell you............
just got released from the hospital. been there since Wednesday. had pneumonia in both lungs. its good to bee home but bed rest for 2 weeks. tinkerbell died while I was there tring to have babies. I cried all day when they told me.
Kathy, so glad to hear your back home, but so sorry to hear about Tinkerbell! Hope you have some help with the kids.((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))
Kathy!!!! No way you can have this gathering this year young lady!!!!! You need to be taking care of yourself first and foremost!!!!!
So sorry to hear about Tinkerbell.....that breaks my heart.
LK, no way to I attempt to take those trees out. I have a tree surgeon (lives across the lake from us) do the work. I may be dumb but I ain't stupid! :-) LOL
Glad to hear you have help Marion.
That would just be way beyond me taking out trees.....shucks, I hire someone to come clean up the ones that fall naturally.
((((((((((Kathy)))))))))))) get better soon!! SO sorry to hear about Tinkerbell. I agree - it must have broken your heart... did the babies die too?!?! Such a heartbreaking thing to happen.......
Thanks for the llinks LK, the one for safelink said it is not available in California. We had to cut back on our cell phone bill and get 300 minutes between the two of us. Don't use our cell phones unless necessary, nice to have in emergency. When I walk to the library DH always asks if I have my cell phone. I have to cross a busy street and some of these drivers just don't watch what they are doing.
I had a letter from Medi-Cal (a printed form) saying even if your house is in a trust they can recoup money owed them. We put ours in a trust to save going through probate and you know the lawyers end up with their pockets full of money. The welfare system does need some cleaning up. The house is still in our names even though it is in a trust.
Kathy I'm so sorry to hear you lost Tinkerbell, I would have cried all day too. Take care of yourself, no one else is going to do better job.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers Kathy. I'm so sorry you lost your beloved Tinkerbell....
Aww Sis Kathy!!!! So sorry to read of Tinkerbell. Hugs my sistah.
Pegi, that is awful that property in a trust can be taken. I guess each state varies on what can and can not be done. Good luck with everything......I think about you daily!!
Kathy, are you taking care of yourself?
BTW, Jaye a package should arrive at your place today. Don't, I repeat DO NOT, try to pick it up...let Kel do it. It is very, very heavy.
Thanks Marion. Think I'll get dress now in case the postal carrier comes knocking!!
I have a garden table that he can leave the package on.
Btw, how did you manage to haul the package?

Marion - not to worry - sure Kel has a small crane in his workshop lol
ROFL!!!!!!!! Or he might be using a cat as one!!!
I didn't, Kim carried it in to the PO for me. I knew better than to try and carry it with my knee not 100% steady.
More will follow but need to finish packing them up.
There's a 25# max on international flat rate packages, I'll wait to take full advantage of the offer. Take your time Marion and thankeeeeeee.
Update on my Mom - Stan told her yesterday morning about the Intermediate Care Home, and I must say..... he waited until the last minute (to get HIS head around it), but didn't give Mom much time, cuz my 3 sisters were going to their place at 11am yesterday so they could all have a talk about it. He was to have told her on Saturday....
Anyway, they're all (Mom, Stan, and 3 sisters) going to the Thorvaldson House today at 2pm....... The administrator has had to deal with /speak to family members and potential residents before, so this should be easy for them. Hopefully it will come about for Mom to move there.
Sure hope it is a smooth transaction for your Mom Susan!
me too........ at least the administrator has been able to talk to Stan, and every time she does he comes out thinking positively.
Of course Stan and my Mom say that they'd be ok with her staying in their home, but that's not right, nor safe for her. And she'd have company whenever she wanted, during the day - her "with it" contemporaries, because no one there has dementia, or such. That's why it's an "Intermediary" home. They all get around just fine, with nothing more than walkers.
I think it's the best transition possible, as she can no longer go into an "Assisted Living" residence (too frail).
