NE, SD(Zone 4b)

Thank you Betty! You are a Santa.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not a problem..my pleasure..
I just love once all done how everyone ends up with a treasure of their own making..same but different..omg remember when we were doing the Victorian santa's how each Santa had its own personality.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, that arrived pretty quick!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm amazed at the speed your postal station works..will put next to your names who has received their kit

If I'm a good girl, tomorrow morning I will basecoat parts of the snowman and post photo's and those of you who have your kit can paint

Have fabric all over the craft room so have to tidy up a wee bit as not to have paint on quilts and runners..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I just got my box of parts! Can't wait to see how it all goes together!

Victoria Harbour, ON

That's good, think everyone has now..

Working from home tomorrow so will start the process for those who have time to work on them...they sure aren't hard..especially when you paint the tops one day and put together another..

Glenview, IL

Ohh yippy!! I did receive mine on Monday, and a big Happy Thank you again to my Santas Elf!!

LOL, so cleared the table laid it all out...then pack it back up to wait patiently...lol, not or the session to begin!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning girls...working from home today..have some quilting to do but I thought I just might start our project..paint takes a bit to dry so inbetween coats I can quilt..thank goodness for a lot of tables in my craft room..lol

Judy, at this point knowing you will likely want to do more, now would be a good time to trace these pieces while they are not together..trace from the side that I didn't take the chunks out with band saw so you can get a clearer marking..

**** VERY/VERY IMPORTANT..TAKE THE HEAD, THE THREE BODY PARTS, THE SHOES AND LINE THE HOLES THAT I've predrilled...
(thanks LindaKay for the heads up, almmost forgot your holes were all drilled..

hat you need out at this moment if the snowman head/hat, hat brim and boots

REMEMBER, you are painting the area that I cut slivers of wood off not the flat edge

Take the brim piece and at the curve where the santa head and hat meet put the brim where you would like it to be and mark it with a pencil..that way you will know where to paint the face and where to paint the hat

Photo 1: pieces you need out at this point

Photo 2: markings of the hat/face

Now we can paint..

You will see that I've painted the top side of the wood pieces only * sides I took slivers of wood off..if by any chance you get paint on edging, don't worry about it, simply paint the sides and we'll take extra effort when we sand.

I would think that 1 coat on hat/brim and boots would be enough..I say this only because I've pre-stained all the pieces

With the snowman body though, likely 2 or 3 coats, make sure to let them dry between coats or the paint will lift..if you want to keep on trecking then use your hair blower to dry each coat.

Photo 1: showing you I painted the upper side only

Photo 2: 1 coat of off/white doesn't allow for full coverage...

NOTE:NOTE:NOTE - you could take out the five snowman faces and paint
them in the off white while you are at it

Anyone in the class this morning???? lol

now we should have the above pieces painted and just waiting on the paint to dry so we can give more coats to snowman faces..

easy so far right?

will sew a bit while waiting for them to dry..

coffee anyone?

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

ok, have coffee in hand, who brought donuts????
Been up early, haven't had breakfast yet so will have to treat myself shortly

Thought you could set aside what we've done so far, don't put them far because we will need them in a bit...just thought while we have snowman (off/white) paint out and are giving several coats to them why not paint them as well..

Off you go, need 2 of body (see photo 1)

In your kit you will if I didn't forget, will have a paper with points on it..take one of the bodies and position paper (see photo 2)

trace it..now your piece looks like (photo 3)

the bottom of your tracing is painted off/whit *upper section left for coat..

All the pieces that should have off/whit (beige) should now have their coats..

with me so far????

2nd board is painted completely off white

Off to get my pieces sorted, and ready for paint!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Great LindaKay..always more fun when I know someone else is at the other end..gives me an idea IF I am explaining myself properly..

Got any sweets???

Ok..forgot the banner..go get the banner..shucks, not too many pieces left in the unpainted pile is there..lol

Remember now, if the off/white (beige) isn't 100% solid it won't matter, we'll be sanding off some of the paint to make it antique looking anyway..

this is a
no stress project, please don't make it one

also...those doing skates, which we shall get to later, you have snowman faces in your box of goodies..time to paint along with us

Drilled a hole in the light box, got the lights in it, now I need to find the tote with all the ribbon, need it done for delivery with other gifts early a.m. tomorrow..hmmm wonder which box..that will teach me to tag each tote..

Normally I have all that at hand, but with going to Florida before xmas I just didn't take them in from storage and decorate like I usually do..

How about some oatmeal cookies!

Victoria Harbour, ON

would be fine, I'll go make hot chocolate..will add candy cane to it..

This is where you can make your snowman in your taste of color..

I painted my last piece of wood and the upper part of the jacket (above where it is jagged) in blue

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, before I get too far ahead with the painting, some of the large snowman body pieces have holes drilled in different place. Some are close to the edge, some are in the middle. Which piece goes where please?

Victoria Harbour, ON

good point..forgot to do mine so slipped my mind, I'll go edit above..

yes, take the three body parts and the head, put them in a line up and line the holes.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

The part with holes farther apart are for the feet?

Victoria Harbour, ON

would imagine, they are close the the section above but not exact..
did go and edit our first post of today so everyone should know to line them up..you might have more problems because you've got 2 snowmen..lol

just posted all the pieces that should be lined up, not sure mine photo will show it

NO, the holes were not drilled when I took photo..but if anyone has painted on not checked on them matching it's a matter of drilling the odd hole BUT am sure they can be matched...let me know

Now for the gloves I chose green, again, it's your snowman, paint them the color of choice..

lordy, just went to look for more parts..think they are all painted..the heart, noses, star were painted for you..

When completely dry, we'll move on

Good Morning!
Here I am too!! Well already in big trouble....
Um, er wahhhhi threw that pattern piece away.....lol totally by accident, yikers will have to wing it!! Then I hope, crossing fingers. I have antique white, is that comcidered off white? Or I did buy a small bottle of winter white????

Omg, Im so glad to know that piece is for the brim, haha couldnt imagine what it was for when I laid pieces out!! Getting ready to trace my pattern and set up my table....oh and go up and re read whats to be done, cheesy smile.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure you can fake it Judy..here's an easy way

get a piece of paper 3 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches hold the length in half

from the part that opens go in 1 3/4" and down 1 3/4 inches and take a ruler and mark it off, then from t here take your ruler o the top of the fold..when you open it up you should have exactly what you need

likely I've confused you lol

fake it girl

Judy, if you have some brown, you can mix your white with it to make it off white! Just a touch of brown is all it takes.

Victoria Harbour, ON

yep, just don't like a 'stark' white santa when you are trying to make him look aged...

allright , we're finished the base coat painting correct????

here's what your snowman should look like...of course his jacket and mitts may not be same color but this part is done..

make sure your snowman is dry, not just to the touch but dry/dry and with sandpaper or palm sander or belt sander you can sand as much of the base color as to your liking..

here's mine sanded (including snowman faces)

any problems so far...

Will see how much I can further do on this project though.

If not tonight then tomorrow late afternoon when I get back from playing santa

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have mine painted, waiting for it to dry, then I can do the sanding.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Great LindaKay...

Jumped breakfast and lunch..took spaghetti sauce from freezer..oops someone is here

Pacifica, CA

Betty, did you get y card yet?

Victoria Harbour, ON

no, but it's Christmas and things are slow, not to worry

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

boo hoo.... I wanna paint !!! won't be able to until Mon or Tues, got to work day shifts Sat and Sunday. Probably going to be very busy.spent most of my shift today re-stocking the shelves in toy dept....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, teacher is in the classroom early...

I'm on a Christmas mission today, still a few hours before I leave but mega things to do..will try to at least get all the painting instructions for you before I leave..

So now it's time to put some blush on the snowman faces..not sure what brushes you have ???

couple of options..

if you use blush then maybe your brush and blush will work..simply add color to the cheeks

if no blush perhaps a soft cloth or brush dipped in red..now here is where you want to be careful, you don't want big red/red circles so once you've added just a smidgeon on red paint on a cloth, wipe it off on paper towel or other cloth until you think NO paint is left..at this point you can go in a light circular motion and add blush...maybe you could try it on a piece of paper first to see if you've still too much on the cloth..

Photo 1: blush on faces

Photo 2: with black and end of your brush, not the bristles, pick up black paint and dot mouth features and eyes..now for the eyes you can see on a few of the faces rather than leave a 'circle' for the eye I kind of pulled down on the end of the bruch and made them over oval

you can now glue or brad nail your noses to the snowmen..

Photo 3: can glue the nose to the face in any direction you prefer..remember they should all have their own personality

Thumbnail by Bettypauze Thumbnail by Bettypauze Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Now we are ready for the jacket..

Photo 1:to make life simpler, I took a ruler and a pencil and first made vertical lines then paralel lines to form a check pattern..

Photo 2: then I taped off the bottom of the jacket where the body and jacket meets so I didn't end up with paint on the body..might be difficult for you to see as tape is same color as the snowman..dahhhh couldn't find any green or blue

then I took my blue and a titch of black and watered down just a touch so paint became more transparent and ran lines down...remember, you will add black to whatever color you painted the jacket

Photo 3:Then I added snowman color to my jacket color, titch of water and did the lines going in opposite direction

then if you have a small liner brush, you could with a mixture of your coat color and a bit more of the snowman color with a bit of water to make it ink like..now don't go crazy with the water as it will run..you can do squiglies as shown between line making it look even more checkered..

Isn't he coming together???

well folks, although I hate to run, I have a day of delivering gifts and being with friends/family..scheduled each one in for 1 hr. leaving in that time 'travel time' as to get a visit with most of them..

have fun and remember, it's just a piece of wood AND once everything is on the coat i.e. sign / gloves/scraves/star and heart..hey, won't be much of him left to see...ooooh let's not forget the sparkles

Thumbnail by Bettypauze Thumbnail by Bettypauze Thumbnail by Bettypauze Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

just remembered something, with a toothpick dab in white or your snowman color if you don't have white and make a glint in the snowmen's eyes..

Now if by chance (and I'd only do this IF you have a small liner brush and/or white paint I'd made a snowflake on the snowman's face and dot the end of lines with white..

I think this gives him character don't you..

this time I really have to run

cant wait to see how your skates and snow faces come along.

Ok got everything painted and sanded, and added noses.

HINT: place the brim on hat to see where you want to put the nose and cheeks.

Okiedokie then Im off to checker jacket..

ILl be here cheering you on When you get to paint Thunder!

Betty, have a wonderful visit and oodles of fun delivering packages.

Oh ya!! A Big cheerful Thank you for another fun workshop.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Judy, your up early. I need to sand my pieces, then do the rest.
Betty, please drive careful today. and enjoy playing Mrs. Clause!

Glenview, IL
