Photo 1:to make life simpler, I took a ruler and a pencil and first made vertical lines then paralel lines to form a check pattern..

Photo 2: then I taped off the bottom of the jacket where the body and jacket meets so I didn't end up with paint on the body..might be difficult for you to see as tape is same color as the snowman..dahhhh couldn't find any green or blue

then I took my blue and a titch of black and watered down just a touch so paint became more transparent and ran lines down...remember, you will add black to whatever color you painted the jacket

Photo 3:Then I added snowman color to my jacket color, titch of water and did the lines going in opposite direction

then if you have a small liner brush, you could with a mixture of your coat color and a bit more of the snowman color with a bit of water to make it ink like..now don't go crazy with the water as it will run..you can do squiglies as shown between line making it look even more checkered..

well folks, although I hate to run, I have a day of delivering gifts and being with friends/family..scheduled each one in for 1 hr. leaving in that time 'travel time' as to get a visit with most of them..

have fun and remember, it's just a piece of wood AND once everything is on the coat i.e. sign / gloves/scraves/star and heart..hey, won't be much of him left to see...ooooh let's not forget the sparkles
