Hold out your glass Jaye, I have some Bailey's, if that is not strong enough, Todd has some wild turkey 101!
SWEET INTERRUPTIONS #249
LK, Todd.. thanks.. but I will spare my liver for another game!
Had just one glass of bitter Cabernet!! Nothing taste good when your team lost!
My dysfunctional LSU Tigers made a nice turn around tonight. The O Line showed up, and Mett (QB) truly tried! I thought the impossible would happen as my cubs led by 3 points with 2 minutes to go. Unfortunately, the football gods are still laughing at us :((
Final score 17 - 21
3 reasons why sis Kathy's 'Bama team won.
1. Nick Saban's a better coach.
2. Nick Saban's run a very discipline team.
3. Nick Saban.. Nick Saban.. Nick Saban.
Okay.. you read it here Sis Kathy. Go on represent SEC in the BCS finals. Your guys will walk to the title.
We're lucky if LSU get to be in the Capital One Bowl :(
But I'll go to bed now with these comforting thoughts.
1. Even though we came up just one play short in the end, we were not supposed to score that much against Bama.
2. It was a statically better game all the way around with a depleted line and it was good to see Mett grew up tonight.
3. I didn't pay $3,000 to watch my cubs lose!! Lol!!
Thank God for that extra hour of sleep.. good morning sistahs!!
Mornimg Jaye...here is hoping your team wins...
Mornin Jaye, I don't watch many games ...but did that one while stitchin on a quilt.....they fought a hard fight, even though there were a few stupid game calls...
here's to hoping Y'all have a great day!!
Morning everyone!
Sue, do you ever get tired of doing things with apples?
Thunder, what quilt are you working on?
GAME WELL PLAYED SISTER! LSWHO SHOULD HAVE ONE. I DON'T HAVE ANY NAILS LEFT OR A VOICE.
now with that said
"ROLL TIDE!"
THE SABAN NATION RULES!
this year i m tired.
Last year i had Jessica helping me with canning and it made it much nicer. :( it was bitter sweet i guess.
did 18 pints of apple pie filling. whew started at 9 am this morning
also got fruit roll ups in the dehydrator. mmmm good.
tried some new techniques wht the pie filling . so i m hoping it works out ? pressed intead of used a chop stick to get out bubbles. worked great with no air bubbles but am wondering if it may cause to much liquied so it won't be pie filling consistancy ?
i wish i could do more apple stuff :( just don't have the energy like i used too
i do have another recipe i want to try apple chili jam may do that this week.
My cubs lost last night Betty. I won't call them Tigers as their head coach and the O-coaches are still not in that pro-stage of parenting!!
I normally take offense at remarks like that Sis Kathy. But you're right, LSU has reaped what it didn't practise it's own stupidity.
Hate that LSU came out on the wrong end but this is another classic, Sis Kathy.
Thunder, so you did see those embarrassing play calls!!
Let me remind myself the ones that don't make sense! How about the 2 field goals out of range, and that 4th down with the running back taking the play instead of QB??? How stupid, stupid, stupid!!
That was all Les Miles' fault! Plus, the defense didn't prevent!
I couldn't sleep.. and it's Les Miles' fault too!
Just like the loss against Florida, this should have been prevented.
Thank God Kel had to work last night, if not he'd have had a heart attack!!
Probably not, his team is Georgia anyway. They won yesterday afternoon.
Back to ordinary life.
Nothing much going on. Supposed to have a Nor'easter coming this way. Got a few more tropicals to bring in.
Maybe I'll bake a pineapple bundt cake later.
Sue, have you tried elephant garlic? They are very mild and great for roasting.
LK, I forgot to tell you that when you get those granny squares together, don't forget to take a pic.
Sigh... let me get back to my dull routine..
Kim and I were watching also....actually thought LSU was going to pull it off but...Good game both teams.
Some has turned the heat back on here...not that high but just is uncomfortable. thankfully will be cooler the rest of the week.
Not much going on....salivating for of Sue's apple filling. I love apples!!!!
I have the granny squares all crochet, and I will start putting them together today. It should be done by the end of the week.
Sue, those recipes sound good.
i'm sorry sis jaye, i didn't mean to offend you. i really thought we were gonna lose. you guys were out for blood. they had me ascared.
Apparently we have a 'Bama fan here at our church - he watched the game and said he couldn't believe how they pulled the game off at the last second! He was thrilled (the "other" Bob, that is - our friend).
We got some blackberries yesterday - 12 of 6oz containers for $6.99! We grabbed them, and I'll make some jam or blackberry sauce out of them..... yummmmmm!
Bob didn't do well at his bowling tournament this am - he got 22 below his average and needed to be above, to be considered for the Provincials.
Morning sistahs.
Got to be a good Monday, as nothing bad happened to any of my sistahs.
Susan, tell Bob (the other one) to watch out for next year's LSU. It's a rebuilding year this year.
What's your Bob's average, btw. Mine is 120, and I'm sure only in my dreams can I get above that!! Lol!! Kel's not into bowling, so my old Brunswick would be better off if I turn it into a gazing ball.
No offense taken Sis Kathy. Did you watch the Saints game last night? It was awesome to see Mark Ingram played as great as he did for Alabama.
Warming up a little today. I'm never ready for white.
Hope you all have a great Tuesday!
missed it. had a migraine and was in bed. ingram has always been my hero
Morning everyone!
Sorry you had a migraine, hope your feeling better today Kathy!
Bummer, Kathy. Migraines are for the birds, thankfully I have out grown mine.....or rather aged.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1286328/
Betty has her annual workshop open, come and check it out!
when will i age out
Jaye - his average is 182
Not feeling very happy today:
Just got home from an Interview Skills workshop, and Bob told me to get his truck back from the estimate, he had to pay $340..... To fix his truck would cost $3200......... don't even have that, let alone to afford it
I told him he HAD to call our friend whom he did work for over the summer, and get paid. She doesn't want to pay until he's done the eavestrough, but he's dug out her yard, repaired and re-shingled her roof, painted some of the trailer, and some other odd jobs. I told him, "we need the $$ now"....... She's a church sister, so surely she understands this. She's also the church secretary and as we know, they get the wage of a church mouse......she works 16 hrs/week, plus her welfare (she can't work more hours or it will affect her welfare).
I repeat, I'm not feeling at all happy....rather scared.
Kathy the age of 56 was my magical number for the migraines.
well, i beez 56 in feb. ya ser its gonna werk
Morning sistahs.
A beautiful day today. In the 70s and I should be frolicking with the cats outside.
Migraines ain't fun. Sorry to tell you this Sis Kathy, I'm 57 and still have them. They should be migrating last year for me!
Susan, you should ask for your rightfully earned wages. No harm in asking. You'd get either a yes or a not now. That's a hefty bill just for an estimate! Sorry that you are facing $$ challenges.
Another last minute thing today that Kel had to bring his father to the doctor. Nope, not angry here. If Kel like that abuse, well then, that's his poison.
There's a gremlin in my house that loves to hide stuffs. There are things that I know where I laid them last, and they can't be found.
How do you get rid of that gremlin?
I better start cooking, before I lose my pots!!! Have a fantastic Wednesday sistahs.
No can't be sure Kathy but it but mine ended at that age. Maybe I was just lucky.
Gremlins? Hummm, I think all households have them. We do.
Bright and sunny here but on the cool side. It doesn't appear as I will be able to travel down this weekend to help take Mom home for the day. My bum knee has decided to flair up big time. The doc gave me an injection Monday but it is huge with fluid (don't know why he didn't drain it as usual) and makes it difficult to move my foot from the gas to the brake pedal. Very necessary to drive.....especially the distance I have to drive. Back up arrangements were in place and as my sister told me..don't need to worry about you doing something stupid will the other things going on. Duh!!!! What can I say?
Sorry to hear about your knee swelling up, that is not fun at all!
gremlins? Yep, we have them here too!
I have those pesky gremlins too. They are at work at the same time I am awake. I have no idea how to get rid of them, they have been around for a few years already.
Off to get DH's meds, they have to be ordered every month so they weren't ready yesterday when he went in for his infusion. Then the library has a couple books I had put on hold ready to pick up and I have one to take back. I finally learned how to get some books from the library on my kindle fire. I have enough books to read to last me for a very long time.
Oh Marion, it's too close to Thanksgiving and now you have to plan your days according to your knee. So sorry to read that.
If your sister had back up plans, stay home!
Ida refused to leave. Yes I'm naming the gremlin after my MIL!
You're saving a lot of money with the Kindle, Pegi. Wish I have one, but downloading will be impossible when I am on dial up.
Are you still having 80s weather, LK? How's the humidity?
That's another on the hate list. Humidity. But then, it's what keeps our skin from drying out!
Cooked some porkchops and a side of giant lima beans. I can eat those beans straight!
my babysister had 2 minor strokes last night. thank the Good Lord they weren't serios, and she was released today. they don't know what made her blood pressure go that high. please add her tonite in our prayers. her name is tammie
got 21 jars of salsa done today . still need another 25 , i have 4 or 5 bags still n freezer of tomato's to do . i will get them done friday
oh Marion i m so sorry to hear of the knee acting naughty ... sending you healing thoughts and prayers.
Jaye i agree. let kel deal wth his dad.
I shoot the gremlins when they enter my home....... Bwahahaha.... but of course i can never find my gun ??? weird ... i know right .
Praying for Tammie........
On the run again today...... chat later!
Sending prayers for Tammie too....
Add me to the list also.
Just got back from my NEW Dr. He knows that I'm leaving my last one cuz he didn't Listen To Me, and he agrees with me that if I'm fine on my current med dose that we don't need to change it because the "book says to"!! YAY!! he's also sending me for regular tests - blood, mammogram, bone density, etc, and I'm...... okay......... with that (yuck, but needs to be done, right?!?! siiiiiiiigh) LOL
He also doesn't have a tiny waiting room where you're almost sitting in each other's laps, and I can understand what he's saying (no thick accent) which is a real plus for me. I think all patients should be able to understand what their Dr is saying, right? LOL
Apparently I won't have to wait for 2 hours to see him either....... lol
This brought tears to my eyes.....
SANTA AND SARAH
Three years ago, a little boy and his grandmother came to see Santa at the McAllister Mall in Saint John. The child climbed up on his lap, holding a picture of a little girl.
Who is this?" asked Santa, smiling. "Your friend?
"Yes, Santa,' he replied. "My sister, Sarah, who is very sick," he said sadly.
Santa glanced over at the grandmother who was waiting nearby, and saw her dabbing her eyes with a tissue. "She wanted to come with me to see you, oh, so very much, Santa!" the child exclaimed. "She misses you," he added softly.
Santa tried to be cheerful and encouraged a smile to the boy's face, asking him what he wanted Santa to bring him for Christmas.
When they finished their visit, the Grandmother came over to help the child off his lap, and started to say something to Santa, but halted.
"What is it?" Santa asked warmly.
"Well, I know it's really too much to ask you, Santa, but.." the old woman began, shooing her grandson over to one of Santa's elves to collect the little gift which Santa gave all his young visitors.
"The girl in the photograph... my granddaughter well, you see ... she has leukemia and isn't expected to make it even through the holidays," she said through tear-filled eyes. "Is there any way, Santa, any possible way that you could come see Sarah? That's all she's asked for, for Christmas, is to see Santa."
Santa blinked and swallowed hard and told the woman to leave information with his elves as to where Sarah was, and he would see what he could do. Santa thought of little else the rest of that afternoon. He knew what he had to do. "What if it were MY child lying in that hospital bed, dying," he thought with a sinking heart, "This is the least I can do."
When Santa finished visiting with all the boys and girls that evening, he retrieved from his helper the name of the hospital where Sarah was staying. He asked the assistant location manager how to get to the Hospital.
"Why?" Rick asked, with a puzzled look on his face.
Santa relayed to him the conversation with Sarah's grandmother earlier that day.
"C'mon.....I'll take you there." Rick said softly. Rick drove them to the hospital and came inside with Santa.
They found out which room Sarah was in. A pale Rick said, he would wait out in the hall.
Santa quietly peeked into the room through the half-closed door and saw little Sarah in the bed.
The room was full of what appeared to be her family; there was the Grandmother and the girl's brother he had met earlier that day. A woman whom he guessed was Sarah's mother stood by the bed, gently pushing Sarah's thin hair off her forehead. And another woman who he discovered later was Sarah's aunt, sat in a chair near the bed with a weary sad look on her face. They were talking quietly, and Santa could sense the warmth and closeness of the family, and their love and concern for Sarah.
Taking a deep breath, and forcing a smile on his face, Santa entered the room bellowing a hearty "Ho, Ho, Ho!"
"Santa!" shrieked little Sarah, weakly as she tried to escape her bed to run to him IV tubes intact.
Santa rushed to her side and gave her a warm hug.
A child the tender age of his own son -- 9 years old -- gazed up at him with wonder and excitement. Her skin was pale and her short tresses bore telltale bald patches from the effects of chemotherapy. But, all he saw when he looked at her was a pair of huge blue eyes. His heart melted, and he had to force himself to choke back tears. Though his eyes were riveted upon Sarah's face, he could hear the gasps and quiet sobbing of the women in the room.
As he and Sarah began talking, the family crept quietly to the bedside one by one, squeezing Santa's shoulder or his hand gratefully, whispering "Thank you" as they gazed sincerely at him with shining eyes. Santa and Sarah talked and talked, and she told him excitedly all the toys she wanted for Christmas, assuring him she'd been a very good girl that year.
As their time together dwindled, Santa felt led in his spirit to pray for Sarah, and asked for permission from the girl's mother. She nodded in agreement and the entire family circled around Sarah's bed, holding hands. Santa looked intensely at Sarah and asked her if she believed in angels.
"Oh, yes, Santa... I do!" she exclaimed.
"Well, I'm going to ask angels watch over you." he said. Laying one hand on the child's head, Santa closed his eyes and prayed. He asked that God touch little Sarah, and heal her body from this disease. He asked that angels minister to her, watch and keep her. And when he finished praying, still with eyes closed, he started singing, softly, "Silent Night, Holy Night....all is calm, all is bright." The family joined in, still holding hands, smiling at Sarah, and crying tears of hope, tears of joy for this moment, as Sarah beamed at them all.
When the song ended, Santa sat on the side of the bed again and held Sarah's frail, small hands in his own. "Now, Sarah," he said authoritatively, "you have a job to do, and that is to concentrate on getting well. I want you to have fun playing with your friends this summer, and I expect to see you at my house at McAllister Mall this time next year!"
He knew it was risky proclaiming that to this little girl who had terminal cancer, but he "had" to. He had to give her the greatest gift he could -- not dolls or games or toys -- but the gift of HOPE.
"Yes, Santa!" Sarah exclaimed, her eyes bright.
He leaned down and kissed her on the forehead and left the room.
Out in the hall, the minute Santa's eyes met Rick's, a look passed between them and they wept unashamed.
Sarah's mother and grandmother slipped out of the room quickly and rushed to Santa's side to thank him.
"My only child is the same age as Sarah," he explained quietly. "This is the least I could do." They nodded with understanding and hugged him.
One year later, Santa was again back on the set in Saint John for his six-week, seasonal job which he so loves to do. Several weeks went by and then one day a child came up to sit on his lap.
"Hi, Santa! Remember me?!"
"Of course, I do," Santa proclaimed (as he always does), smiling down at her. After all, the secret to being a "good" Santa is to always make each child feel as if they are the "only" child in the world at that moment.
"You came to see me in the hospital last year!"
Santa's jaw dropped. Tears immediately sprang in his eyes, and he grabbed this little miracle and held her to his chest. "Sarah!" he exclaimed. He scarcely recognized her, for her hair was long and silky and her cheeks were rosy -- much different from the little girl he had visited just a year before. He looked over and saw Sarah's mother and grandmother in the sidelines smiling and waving and wiping their eyes.
That was the best Christmas ever for Santa Claus.
He had witnessed --and been blessed to be instrumental in bringing about -- this miracle of hope. This precious little child was healed. Cancer-free. Alive and well. He silently looked up to Heaven and humbly whispered, "Thank you, Father. 'Tis a very, Merry Christmas!
If you believe in miracles you will pass this on...I did!
that is a very nice story Susan
i m glad you found a Dr that will listen. My MIL had her meds changed and well she almost died !! her blood count dropped to 5 . ended up in the hospital. For heavens sake what the heck. HEr DR. wanted to try and new medicine on her !! oh my gosh. i wanted to strangle that DR.
got the rest of my bulbs in the ground tulips , crocus and hyacinth
also some siberian iris
did 21 pints of salsa today
apple orchard tomorrow. our last few days left :( bitter sweet.
glad your mil got it straightened out! Once upon a different Dr (in Winnipeg), my own Dr was out of town and I called the clinic that was taking his calls for him........ and the doctor asked what medications I was taking, and I told him. He phoned over a prescription for me, and I started taking it right away. I kept getting worse and worse and couldn't get out of bed. I stopped taking the new (additional) med and called my Dr when he was back on Monday. The dr said (and I loosely quote - it was a long time ago) "That combination of drugs could have killed you!!" He was startled of course, or he wouldn't have admitted such a thing to a patient, I'm sure. Apparently the "fill-in" dr didn't pay attention or he wouldn't have mixed the two drugs.......
One other "drug-related" horror story is where the Dr AND the pharmacist didn't pay attention. I was trying to quit smoking and there was a drug (12 yrs ago) that I could get with a prescription. Got the prescription (regular Dr) and took it to the pharmacist (regular pharmacist). When I got home I read the booklet that came with it. There were 6 cautions in the little pamphlet, that said "Can cause seizures" and "Do not take if seizures are a possibility" etc. I take Dilantin, a seizure preventative medication because I'm epileptic. I called the pharmacy, and took back the med..... and then called the Dr's office. They BOTH should have caught this!!! I'm glad I read things, and stop taking things that are causing me trouble - some times I think I should be my own Dr!
There are more, but I'm off my soap box now LOL
77 degrees right now with 43% humidity. Not too bad.
Wow, glad you caught the wrong meds too! Sometimes I wonder about Dr.'s decisions!
Did my Wednesday night power prayer, but will say more to include Tammie, Sis Kathy. It could be her food too, if not stress. Tell her if she loves salt, switch to sea salt. With sea salt, the amount use is much less than regular table salt.
Sue, was Ida at your house too? Man!! That gremlin sure gets her way around! Lol!
I bet your salsa is good, as you've lived in Ca, and very exposed to authentic Mexican cooking. Save some jars for 2014 gathering. :D
On the topic of being aware of your meds, yes, I had argued with my doctor on some of the meds prescribed. Thank God for Google!
Susan, thanks for the short story. Hope and Faith, two precious free gifts from God.
Kel's brother who was diagnosed with brain cancer when he was 14, beat all odds and lived for more than 20 years. The last 7, he was confined to bed, but his faith in God gave him a spirit that all should emulate..including me.
Well, tonight I watched Survivor, Criminal Mind and CSI without any political ads. Whew.. life is back to normal!!! I don't have to stick to my ID channel if football isn't on the air!! Praise God!
Good night my sweet sistahs.
Yes LK - sometimes I think the Drs are Just Not Thinking.
I have been taking the same meds since I was 13, and now I'm 58..... I think I know how they are working for me. I just stand my ground and Tell the Dr. I really don't care if they don't like my attitude, cuz it's my health and very important to me as it should be to them!!
