SWEET INTERRUPTIONS #249

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Glad all your scares are over and Done With, Jaye!

Wouldn't it be nice if you could have High Speed in your area? I know that the jail gets it........ does Kel have a laptop to use at work (personal or otherwise)? If so, he's lucky and can go surfing on his lunchhour, eh?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Coffee is ready!

bbl

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Good Morning Ladies,
Not one trick or treater here, no Jaye I didn't dress up. It started pouring rain just as it was starting to get dark

I go to the doctor on the 27th to discuss surgery, and I hoping to get it done within the 1st two weeks of Dec. So I will be spending some time in the craft room. Have two things I need to get done for two special "sistahs" here, plus make 5 gifts for my dinner party girlfriends

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I'll take the coffee black, LK!

Susan, personal computers aren't allowed in the building.
Kel works in the Master Control room, the pcs in there are installed with a monitor software and there'd be random checks by techies to track usage. One had been fired as he had use it for harmless net surfing.
Moreover, there are surveillance cameras everywhere.

Sue, Cookie is so lucky to have you and Bertie close by. I know Kel would be a weekend widower if any of you were to live near me. Only weekends when I'd be staying home are those football weekends!!

Cindy, you have piqued my curiosity to what special things you're making! You are full of craftsy surprises girl! I still get oohs and aahhhs over the stuffed froggy.
Now that ain't fair. You're too far for us to attend your dinner party!!
I sincerely hope your surgery will be triumphant.

Bringing Kel to the dentist. Yes, unfortunately I'll be driving the big clunky box truck home. Got to think of it like driving the old Winnebago! I hope other motorists will let me have MY side of the road!! Lolol!!

Have a good November month sistahs.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Is your side in the middle, Jaye???? ;o)

Sunny here today and not too windy. Looks like a day I should be outside, and I might! Trying to catch up on threads right now.

I was putting dates on my calendar for Nov and Dec. I only have three things scheduled for December right now and they're ALL on the same day! I belong to 2 garden clubs (besides DG) and there is a Garden Center that has a Girls Day Out in Dec. So guess what, they're all on the 4th. Problem with that is, too, the G/Cs are both meals! One is luncheon, the other dinner. Sigh....guess I won't be hungry that day!!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh oh ........warning everyone - Jaye's driving the "big beastie" - stay off the roads!! Repeat........ Jaye's out on the roads....... mid-road that is roflmfao
You have a winnebago, Jaye?

Hoping your Dr app't is good. Sorry you had to miss "girl time"......

Bible Study this am..... we're studying 1st Peter
So tired, and I've just woken up........................

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Time to learn to quilt? Crochet is nice too, I have almost 300, 3 inch granny squares done, I am making an afghan for myself.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have been working on them for about a month now, almost done, then I can stitch them all together. It will be a white background, with a green Christmas tree in the center, with red border. As soon as it is done, I will post pictures.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Looking forward to the pictures!!!

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Coffee is on so help yourself. I am moving slowly so please make yourself at home. Didn't get a chance to bake but did put out some cinnamon/raisin bagel thins..........great with coffee.

BBL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Marion, thanks for the coffee and bagel thins.

To anyone that has storm damage from Sandy...

I was watching the morning news, and they are warning people in the storm area, to be wary of people that come through the neighborhood looking to help you clean up debris, cut tree's, or help with construction work. A LOT of them are not licensed! If they are not licensed, they don't carry insurance, and they have no back ground checks. So you don't know who they are. If they have no insurance, and something happens you are responsible for any damages or injuries.
Demand to see a license

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Very good advice LK. Situations like this always brings out the worst in people.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

As the news crew was walking down the streets with the inspector, only 1 out of about 8 had a license! I know it is a lot cheaper to have things done this way, but you have to be careful as you don't know who they are, and if they got hurt, or caused more damage, you are responsible.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I saw on the news two men arguing about whether a planned marathon should still go on, or whether the marathoners should volunteer to help those in need. There are, btw, many volunteers to be on the sidelines to offer snacks and Gaterade to the runners.
One fellow said they could run up the stairs instead of on the streets, to help the elderly and bring food & drink to them. It seems a lot of people still don't have power, so the idea that they could forget their troubles and watch the marathon on TV is silly.
So, what do you think - keep the marathon and show the resilience of NY'ers to the world, or not have the marathon and use the "bodies" to help bring comfort for those in need?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I can't see what good the marathon is going to do anyone in NY. Except line the pockets of some......

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

One of the arguments was that it will bring needed revenue to NY...........

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

That's just too ridiculous to carry on with a Marathon at this time?? I'd say, make use of those runners to help out! After all, in lieu of a license, they can use their participants' numbers!

BBL

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

they need the revenue the marathon would bring to the city, which would help in rebuilting, and rehousing people

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Jaye - the license would be a Contractor's license, to show they are qualified to do the work, so the marathon # wouldn't be applicable. After all, if there was an accident, and there was no insurance to cover the re-repair or personal injury, the homeowner would have to pay for it, not the insurance company.
I'm kinda like the newswoman who said she had to "sit on the fence" on this issue, because there are good points to both sides of the argument.

Victoria Harbour, ON

dropping in for a sec...waving, can't you see

must say I totally agree for various reasons to have the marathon..one, if they cancelled would clean up, new housing etc etc get done in those few hours??? To me it's showing that NY is the city that never dies..gives hope..my opinion only

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

And I thank you for your opinion, Betty
Isn't that what makes our world lovely - opinions are what make us special.and gives us something to talk about :-)

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

the marathon has been cancelled

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

aha - well, it wasn't out decision, but obviously they did a whole bunch of soul searching, and are going to live with their decision.
I wonder if they will re-schedule to whenever the weather co-operates again.

oops - just found out - it won't be held this year at all. It will be held at the regular time, next year.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

A week ago, this town was scheduled for its' annual Yam Festival. Due to the weather predicted, it was cancelled. Unfortunately none of the vendors were refunded of their rental fees.
Neither was it postponed. So said, it will be on next year. I am pretty sure, some vendors won't return. But then, it's not as famous as the NY Marathon.

I had ranted in the other building how Kel had turned my brugmansias into bonsais! Said he wanted to help out, and since he had helped me out for the past 4 years, taking care of my brugs.. I trusted him. Wrong. He took the easy way out by lobbing off the limbs even the ones that Y'd. On top of that, he got rid of the cuttings! No, I didn't cuss him, as they're only plants, right?

This afternoon, he decided to treat me to the bookstore. Guess it's to appease me. Didn't get anything, and since he was keen on having supper at Waffle House, that's where we went later.
At the restaurant, before ordering, he was told that it ran out of his diet soda. He was upset.. wouldn't want any other drinks, not even water!! I was trying so hard to accomodate him by suggesting orange juice, which is the only form of fruit he'd take!
Well, Mr. Kel threw a fit.. said he'd watch me eat and that he's not hungry!!
That's when I snapped.
With glaring eyes that can cut right through his soul, I spewed these words.
Sorry sistahs.. it's Adult rated, so quit reading from here if you are easily offended.
"You wanted to come here, and you better *f*----ing order!!!"
All chatter stopped at Waffle House in Myrtle Beach!
Kel was shocked, and replied quietly.. "You're a Christian.. and all are looking at you".
I just was on that "don't give a s**t plateau, and I told him very firmly... "Quit acting like a child, and ORDER!".
Well he did. When he walked over to Rite Aid, to get his precious soda, I took the moment to apologize to the other diners.
One old lady piped that she wished she had my courage sometimes. I can see women smile while their men put their heads down.
Men!!

Okay.. yes... I was that mad to cuss, which is NEVER in public. I did ask the Lord for forgiveness, and later told Kel I am not ashame as he truly was throwing a temper tantrum fit for a 5 year old!!

Thank God there wasn't a butter knife on the table.. cause I saw a perfect spot on his forehead!!!

Good night sistahs. I've return to the good ole Jaye now!! Lol!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

lol you're always the "good ole Jaye" to us, dear lady!
I agree with the old lady - wish I could show some courage at times like this (not to say I haven't, but usually I don't). I have gotten the glare down sometimes though lol

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Good for you Jaye, wish I had the courage to rant & rave at times. My DH wouldn't have cared what others said, he could really throw out a lot of nasty sayings. Don't know if he would still be that way today, but not taking any chances. I more or less mutter to myself these days. LOL He had a wicked tongue in his younger days.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Oh Pegi. I've been muttering to myself for the past 10 - 11 years!! Every time I let him know how I feel after the fact, he's always saying I exaggerate things.. or I misunderstood.. but never, never acknowledging he's wrong.
So, I just let him have "it".
Come to think of it, I must have broken that famous belief that Asians are supposed to be oh so polite and meek.
In fact, when we walked into the greasy spoon, I was three steps behind him. He's always walking too fast.
So.. for this Asian to rant openly must be why the ladies in there were smiling away.
You don't have to be White, Black or American to show your anger in public, especially with your DH!!!
I could have hugged that old lady, Susan.

Good night sistahs.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

((((((Jaye)))))) and we could just Hug YOU, Jaye!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Jaye, that isn't all that unusual for vendors not to receive their money back if an event is cancelled. Most contracts state very clearly they will forfeit their money. Granted it doesn't sound fair but most people who do the circuit know this. We did refund money (one of the few who would inspite of contract statement) if it was a circumstance beyond our control. There are many expenses that still have to be paid whether the show goes on or not. Funny business for sure.

don't forget to turn your clocks backward and get that extra sleep sistah's

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Ah hem, Kathy and Jaye, just remember when it is all over we are still sistahs! :-)

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I hope so Marion!!
CBS poll showed 75% favored Bama to win :*(
LSU? Oh well.. hope is all they got.
Even Coach Spurrier of the Gamecocks said that Bama could beat a couple of NFL teams.
Just a few minutes into the game, we've already incurred a stupid penalty!! Our guys can't hold on to the ball. Think I'll need something stronger than wine!! Lol!!
