Gorgeous fall day out there
1st Annual 'Christmas Friendship Gift Exchange' in Memory of Santa Warren
We were all thrilled last year when Dianne and Santa Warren brought up having a Gift Exchange amongst we friends, often thought of more as family.
"I guess we should decided on an upper limit cost wise, I would hate to see anyone withdraw because they were afraid the couldn't keep up with the Joneses (old Welsh expression). So I guess we should consider a guide for the cost factor, it doesn't have to be hand made"
No amount will be set.. gifts either handmade or bought will be within each others budget !!!
Deadline to participate is October 15th
names given on the 16th
mailing by November 10th as to be ahead of the Christmas rush
Thank you Dianne for hosting this Christmas Exchange and we will look forward to our names..

Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friends
It's raining hard again. My roof is tin and is good except where we put a venilating fan thing in. I have an old quilt on the floor under it. The worst problem is with the doors - under them that is. Living in a desert we don't worry so much about things being watertight - until we get a tropical storm. kb
ah yes, the tin roof syndrome - I have a tin roof too, and it sounds like the home is coming down when it rains, or if any tree "parts" hit it. I've learned to relax about it. After all, I've been here for 6 years, so I'm good lol
Judy posted on the last thread
OK Susan, glad your taking care...(I) Musta read something wrong. I'll be quiet then.
OMG, it so wonderful to SEE again!
Yep Debbie, I am minding the docs orders, lol one thing about me is, I'm too scared not to...lol, they gave me meds at 9:00, And that's what time I take my meds now...set my alarm clock and everything, Although i will ask if I can take them when i get up instead.
So, I made a follow up visit with my Dr. it's next week, I'll continue to monitor my BP at Walgreens.
Finally, my arm is calming down...I'm worried about what I can and can't eat, so got a book at the library/ 125 healthy low-Sodium & no Sodium Recipes...Should be fun to check em out!
While i was in Hospital, they took exrays of my chest and lungs too, everything seems to be good there...They checked my Blood, and the numbers were good...That was one of the main reason for check up in first place, Diebeties runs rampid in my family.. My blood pressure was 220/90 at the docs office! She wanted to send me by ambulance, But I wasn't having any syptoms, no headache, no dizziness, nothing. She took BP 4 times, 3 by machine and 1 manually...Well then took an ekg, didn't like something there, so wanted me to get a stress test and other tests...Since i don't have insurance i drove way to the other side of Chicago to the County Hospt..
Thanks To Moonie, for directions, lol...My navegator via cell phone, helped me find the place and kept my mind off the issue, I was SCARED!! They took more ekg's and thats why they took the Chest exray, The doc in ER, said it was ok and didn't warrent a stress test...At 3:45AM, she admitted me to keep me monitored on all!! From that point i was a lovely pin cusion, loaded with Blood thinners, needles longer than my fingers!!,..the IV, insert (just in case) I don't know how many viles of blood taken for tests, and then they decided i should have a flu shot...and the morning I left a phenmonia shot!! The entire time they kept taking BP, twice i thought my hands were going to explode!!! I entered the er at 6:30 on Tues night, didnt go home until get to leave until 4:30 P. M. Thurday...Took, my BP today at walgreens, twice! First reading 136/68 2nd 123/69 and that was just minutes apart..So much much better...We will invest in one of those monitors, so i can keep watch at home, but for now its just good to get in the car and drive, worry free...
Sorry to YELL at you, i was scared for you and when im scared, i yell., cant help it thats just how i am, my kids hate it too...
AND, Yes, I have CUT WAY down on my smoking...Like i tell everyone one step at a time, And i will enjoy the gift of another day, for which i am very grateful.
I'll be back in a little bit to tell you of my adventurous Train ride!!
sorry I was so nasty, Judy - I'm worried too, so took it out on you, and that's not right..........
Anyway, I am trying to take care.
btw - I'm so frustrated with my WiFi - I can't seem to get my laptop connected. I went on YouTube and followed instructions, and it looked like it was connecting, but just said "Acquiring Network Information".
oh oh oh - I GOT connected....... I'm feeling pleased with myself.
Now....... if only I can get my email connected.... they said it would take 24 hours. 24 hours without email?!?!?! When I waiting to hear about a job?!?!? small argh
Hello To All ;
Thank you Marion & Jean for the idea.... we have satsumas now... wonder if they would be good in a green salad? I'll have to try.....
Judy - you're right better to get checked than to guess....
Katie - take care gal and keep us informed...
Betty - I need to send you a Thank you note ... somehow I have had Betty-esque energy lately...at least during the day...
Barb Hugs for you and Norm .... LK Hugs for you and Dad....
Not much going on here. DH out of town for work for a few days so back to just DS and me... and it's very nice.
I'll pop back in a bit

Love you too, Mary!!! (((((Mary)))))
Morning all,
Mary I love the saying..doesn't it just put things in perspective!
Bet your young man is enjoying your one on one..special time for sure for both of you..think the bonding is a good thing. So you are being energetic, good for you..my batteries need recharging, tell me how you've done it.
LindaKay, how did the appointment go yesterday? Hope there was some positive feedback.
Judy, so glad you are taking this warning seriously and that you are working on 'no smoking'! If our Liz did it I'm sure you can..will help add years to your life. Can't wait to hear your story about the train ride.
Susan, let's hope you hear about a position today, wouldn't that just make your day.
Katie, sare you safely tucked in?
Dianne, sure hope it's a sunshine day for you
Liz, did they find an alternate medication for Kenny?
Bet Barb Norm was smiling from ear to ear when you gave him the news yesterday.
Waving to all others,
Got to get a move on
Judy! you better be behaving!
Betty, yes the last two weeks we finally got his blood sugar readings to a normal range its been a hard struggle, but on the 22ND we have a apt with the endocrinologist and a dietician yaaay for the dietitian i need her cause im still not getting all the portioning and the food to keep at minimal, poor guy says he is starving after dinner, even with protiens.
wishing everyone well.....
barb, did you feel the earthquake?
Yes we did!!! Norm knew immediately what it was. Not me!!! He used to be stationed in San Diego and was familiar with them. No problem here but I need to check in with my brother who only lives about 30 miles from the center. So unusual to have one of that size here but I guess we do have faults going through. Something to investigate......
Thank you all so much for your good wishes regarding Norm. So far - so good as far as the side effects go. I must admit they really scare me this time. They are nasty ones and I find myself watching him like a hawk.
Judy I'm so glad to hear you are cutting down on the smokes and are now going to take an extra active watch on yourself. We NEED you girl!!!!
Glad to hear hurricane Paul only grazed the Baja and that Katie will be okay. I know what damage the hurricanes can do living where I do and I"m grateful we haven't had any problems for quite a while.
Congratulations Liz on getting Kenny's number down. That is a major accomplishment!!!!
Saying prayers for you Susan. There just has to be "the job" out there for you.
Betty - you must take it easy for a while. You sound tired in your posts and I worry. Is this the weekend you come to New York?
Dianne, how are you doing my friend. Are you feeling any better - I miss you....
Thea comes home from Germany tomorrrow and I'm sure she will have some pictures to share.
Off to get breakfast and then sew.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.......
Had forgotten to put Santa Warren's Christmas list on the new post. If it's ok with everyone we shall wait until Thea is back home, know she wouldn't want to miss the swap..still gives us mega time to get our names.
Today will be a 'put your feet up and put pressure on neck/shoulders by slouching into high back office chair.
Needed some yo-yo's for the aprons, maybe I can manage that if not rest/rest/rest
Hi everyone - have some coffee (with International Coffee's French Vanilla) and muffins! Oh, and Carrot cake if you like.....
Thanks, just what I needed this morning!
I love Carrot Cake........
Have as much as you like, Betty - no calories lol
Just a slice, soon will be lunch hour
I Got A Job! It's a "temp to perm" position, but I start it tomorrow at 9am!
It's an Excavating company, and the wages are in line with what I've been making.
The agency called me about it this aft, asked if I would like to start, confirmed me with the company and I just got the call back to start tomorrow!! woo hoo!!
Congratulations Susan. Surely some sunshine on the horizon for you and DH.
Quiet day in this room today, hope all are just having down time and nothing wrong with you and yours
Congratulations Susan, how wonderful, let's hope you and the firm are a perfect fit.
Came home, hot bath, pain killers and to sleep..
No sooner did I drift off did Darlene call, she was having a terrible day, overwhelming time and to boot her eldest sister is acting up..she is like a steam roller, pushing things as though Mae is already dead, greed is a funny thing..all along Darlene has been the buffer between her sisters (2) but think today the eldest overstepped her bounds..so I just listened
Time to drift off again!
Hello To All !
Congratulations Susan !
Yes Betty I've really enjoyed some 1 on 1 time with DS. We shared Sushi last night, and then tonight we did our traditional "making the cheese balls".... I let him take one with some satsumas to his GF's Mom... it's her bday today. I'll have one for home and take one with us Saturday.
Saturday is "Model A Tune Up" day. Not at my house....but I invited DS and DSGF to come too because the club offered to let folks learn to drive Model A's as well... I'm too chicken but the kids might enjoy that...
Glad Norm is doing well.... and Liz hubby as well...
Judy - quit that smoking gal ! (HUGS)
Will check back in a bit...
Mary
Thank you, Jean, Betty & Mary!!
And guess what too? I went to a dollar store, and got a 10" rotating platform for $2!!
I'm going to use a shelf liner to hold the cutting mat in place, and as long as what I'm cutting is smaller than 10", I'm Good!!
Good morning everyone, Good news about Norm. I keep him in my prayers. And WTO, Susan, on the new job. Hope it's fun, permanent and well-paying.
We had sixteen hours of rain, lost internet and power for a little over twenty-four hours. Tony stayed home yesterday, too. I think a few people got through but he knew I was well prepped so he stayed with his family. I'm so proud of both of us.
I hope he'll be here today as there is a tree dowon in the new garden and I can't move it. I planted some seeds that got wet from a small leak. I moved the ambulance as it looked like a big tree might come down on it but that didn't happen.
The rain varied from very hard to gentle but there was not a lot of wind. Most of it has probably soaked in, especially where I have amended the soil.
It's all good here.
hugs, katie
Good Morning!
Congratulations on the job Susan!! Hope your first day is great.
Betty, sounds like you got in a good Rest, so glad for that.
Linda Kay, How did Dads Dc appointment go?
Ohhh, and did you have a nice visit with Friends? Were you able to meet up with DJ, I hope so.
Good to see you are Doing well Katie!! Yep, very proud you were well prepared...
Oh, Our appointment is here...Hope i can get back in a bit!
Mary Sending ya Hug, happy BD to DGS girlfriend!
Debbie, Debbie...How are you? what you been up to?
Hey Judy, I have a BAD case of the crud. Don't know if it is the flu or a major cold....but laying low, fluids and lots of napping. This is about
day four of it.
Debbie, sorry to hear you have the crud, hope your feeling better soon.
Judy, I meet up with Deejay Friday. Hope you got some rest from your trip.
oh Debbie - please take care of yourself.......crud is Nasty!
Hi - 1st day at the new job was great - team is very friendly, and they seem to think my attitude/work ethic is JUST what the Dr ordered lol I think I'd enjoy working with the people at the company, and the work seems to be offering me a challenge - I like that very much.
Just one issue - I start work @ 8:30 and no breaks, finish at 5pm. Actually they said I could have 30 min lunch, but cannot leave my desk! In addition to Office Coordinator position (very busy role), I am also their receptionist. No mid-morning or afternoon coffee break either. I've emailed to the employment agency about this. There is no way that I cannot leave my desk except to fill my coffee and go to the washroom What if I want to sit in the lunchroom, or go for a walk? There is no one to relieve me from the front desk. Sure, I need to do other work like go to someone's office, but that's still work. :-(
Hello To All !
Debbie - please feel better soon! Feel helpless cuz if I offered any suggestions likely you have already done that... so keep on doin' and hope the kiddos are giving you a stress break.....
Susan - likely they will hold you to a stricter standard when you start and then you'll find out later some little ways you can get a breather.... Maybe they've had a problem before with folks wandering off. But I'd think they would not expect you to answer phones during your lunch? Odd....but good luck with it !
Katie - good thing you and Tony made it through okay....
Betty so sad for Darlene... my big sis was like that... just steamrolled me.... and I was grieving so gave in to so much...
Hugs to all...
Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday !
I have an early morning... nighty night ya'll
Mary
Betty - hope you got a good night's rest. You sure need it with the headaches and pain........ and you're so much support for your friends and family...... don't overdo it, please.
Mary - the previous person in my position is training me and she said that's just the way it is for this position - you're to be available to answer questions, do work, and answer the phones.....
That's just not right, and I'm sure they had it this way for her, but it Won't be for me.
It's been a strange day for me. Tony came this morning but didn't stay long. He'd been asked to help clean up in homes across the river that had been flooded with mud. We congratulated ourselves on living higher than flood level and he left. I share him, eespecially when we have priorities like this. We'll get the tree tomorrow - if I can move. While I've felt OK mentally today, I've been in so much physical pain that I've hardly been able to move. Took a second pain killer just to get the dishes done. Read a book. Then, as I was about to go to sleep. I tried to shut my back door and it fell apart.
After Rosie died, I watched the other dogs for signs of illness (though with a hurricane coming there wasn't much to be done) and Scout, who is normally a good (read, somwhat piggy) eater didn't eat for a couple of days and was very lethargic. She seems better today - eating and cuddling.
I'm still recovering from everything. Sure glad I don't have to work regularly.
hugs, katie
Guten morgennnnnnnnnnn!!!
I am back!!! 15 days with NO internet...lol...it was a nice break for sure. Had a wonderful time with my family and an awesome time with my sweetie in the Austrian Alps!!
Arrived safe and sound late yesterday afternoon, unpacked and then crashed...lol
Been awake since 1.30am this morning, had breakfast at 3am (9am german time) and now I am ready for bed again!!!
Betty...I had told you before I left that I would like to be in the Christmas Swap...lol...you had even added me to the list!!!
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1281084/
Looking forward to honoring Santa Warren in this year's Swap!!!
Busy days ahead Yard work) but will try to write more and post pictures when I can.
Love and many hugs
Thea
Morning all. Betty sorry to muscle my way in and hope you don't mind me asking you a question, hadn't seen you on the forums I usually visit but really wanted to ask you a question about crafting. I tried and tried to make a canvas tote with transfer images I created with no success I might add or very little success. Have you ever done that? The method I found on the internet was you created an image from a laser jet printer, ok no problem got that done, then you used paint thinner to transfer the image with, well didn't work so great for me. After 3 totes I gave up. Read bad things about transfer paper and sure didn't want to dump kabillions of dollars on a project that wouldn't work.
Sorry all, just I went to the internet and felt let down when it didn't work, but thought well Betty had done so many cool crafty things maybe you could help me. Thanks.
Hi I am back, again, lol.
We had our entire system rerouted...So now Internet/telephone/wifi/and cable are all bundled together!!
Should save us a few pennies!! But, about an hour later something went haywire, wasn't able to access internet or TV, grrr. So had to wait to today for the guy to come back and fix the problems, Gave us a new box so now here i are!! OMG, the most excellent, is our landline, woohoo...I can hear clearly again, no static, how exciting is that...So, my friends, I'll be letting my fingers do the walking and do some Ringle jingling!! argh, have to wait till tomorrow for long distance to clear though! LOL, but if your bored and want to chat give me a ringle jingle, I am here! and oh what technology is today, We can caller id on the TV!!
You hoo...Betty, where are you?? You busy, buy or just taking a good break? Hope all is well.
Awe, Debbie, sure hope the crud goes away soon!
Sending ya some Armwraps!(((((D)))))))
So to pass my time, (not smoking) stacked wood, and weeded the back jungle!! Then it rained, so I'm back to cleaning, where I left off...
Linda kay, hope your visit with DJ is awesome! Oh yeppers, I'm rested
Welcome home Thea!! So glad you had such a wonderful time in Germany, can't wait to see pictures!
Susan, Very glad your first day was good...
OK, I've got some ills to do, so heck back in a bit.
Waving to all, not really waving, in to much pain
20 more minutes and it's off to Buffalo, didn't have the heart to cancel (likely because someone would say well enough to travel with friends but not the aged.
Sure hope mom,Jim and Aunt Muriel tire our quickly..Suzanne has been waiting n me like mother hen. ..drove me in this morning, rested (slept) good part of the day..meds making me tired..
Perhaps a good nights rest will help!
Gab later, just wanted to check in
Betty I am beginning to think your theme song should be "On the Road Again".......lol
Betty - you really DO need to learn to say NO or NOT THIS TIME. I hate to think of what you are doing to yourself by not saying no.....You have let others depend on you for so long that they now seem to just expect you to be able to keep on going and going and going like the Energizer Bunny... Betty needs some Betty time!!!!!
Betty, I agree with Barb, your health should come first! Please get some rest, and see a Dr. about the pain!
Judy, I had a wonderful visit with Deejay, she made lunch, then we had a pumpkins cake/bar for dessert! It was wonderful!
Thea, so glad to hear your home, hope you had a great time? Don't forget to
Post pictures, we will all be waiting for the.
Jaye, have you tried to iron a white piece of fabric onto freezer paper, cut it to size to fit your printer, and print right on the fabric.
How did I miss you were coming to Buffalo this weekend. Please be careful and drive safe....rest when possible!!!
The weather is good this side so far
Afternoon everyone! The names for the Christmas Exchange will be sent out by DMail tomorrow. Maybe some tonight if I can summon any energy. Thanks everyone for your patience.
My root canal yesterday turned into an extraction. Darn radiation anyway! Debbie if my teeth are so bad from the radiation I had poor Shannon must be in a real mess.My heart goes out to her. Now I have to have some kind of partial thing put in where the tooth was as it is a front tooth and I absolutely refuse to go around looking like the locals.
Dianne
Just arrived, in hotel room, 4 of us...
Off for eats, already asking what stores are open
Also, brought sewing machine, imagine, mom wants her rag quilt done. Lol
Gab in a bit!
(((((((((Betty)))))))))) please be good to your health!!
Welcome back, Thea!! We missed you...........!!
Judy - we had our internet/cable/phone re-routed this week too lol and added WiFi for no $$ extra either!! AND we get a free laptop for Bob!! It's to be sent via post, so could take 6 weeks........ they haven't sent it yet they said.
