Poor Breenie. Do keep a close eye on her. I ran across this the other day...scary stuff
http://www.stltoday.com/news/national/resurgence-of-whooping-cough-has-experts-alarmed/article_5a3bde9d-7669-5fb4-9178-d02072f68b6b.html

When we went to Australia in 2009, we were required to get whooping cough (Pertussis) vaccinations. There had been an outbreak there that sickened or killed a number of babies/toddlers. Seems the new (1990's) form of vaccine was not as effective as the original. The sounds made by the infected person are very distinct...between coughs they make a wheezing (whooping) sound as they draw air into the lungs.

Good thoughts to your Dad LK. Hopefully they will come up with a treatment plan that works for him.

Barb, that is great news for Norm and you. Continued good thoughts for you both.

Susan, not all lung problems come with coughing...some present with chest tightness, pain, difficulty catching your breath and a feeling of "heaviness". I know it seems redundant, but do allow them to test you thoroughly...the lungs (pulmonary) and heart (cardio) can effect each other or be affected by the other, so please don't try to second guess your doctors.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I love that runner, and the back looks equally pretty! Can't wait to see a better picture of it.

I agree with the symptoms you described about chest and or heart problems, one can affect the other! You don't need to be coughing to have lung problems!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Interesting article.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm living proof of that LK. I hardly ever cough but the lungs are in terrible shape. If I didn't have this darn tube in my nose you would never know I had a problem!!! Before I went on oxygen all the time, people would look at me as if I were horrible to have a handicapped plate and look so healthy!!! Now they look at me and lower their eyes. I don't know what bothers me more-the scorn or the pity!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Am sure it's not pity Barb...you are one healthy looking lady though.

Darlene just called, she believes they will know within the hour if Barrie can take her mom today. she is not sure when they would operate, she says they operate even during the night so if that is the case would I drive and get her and take her to Barrie to be with her mom..goes without saying 'of course I will'

Darlene is worried though about her mom not being well enough to go through the operation...says today she is feeling sad/guilty that not a lot of attention is being given to the loss of her father, too busy with her mom but knows her dad would want them keeping close to their mom.

mulege, Mexico

More prayers for Darlene and others in need.

Good news from Barb.

I agree that this thread is my on-line "comfort food."

When I had my first visit with the knee surgeon I was explaining to him how my increased use of pain killers had led me to consider the surgery that I'd been avoiding for years. I looked at him and realized that he was really listening to me! It really hit me and I was so grateful. He's very serious and what he really loves is doing the surgery (with the patient sound asleep) but he knows the value of listening.

Our water has been back on for several days. Last night our electricity went off at about 10pm and stayed off for about twelve hours. I got very little sleep. Lots of mosquitoes and no fan. At least it was not unbearabley hot. I got up at 2 am and did some time on my exercise bike. Finally slept for a few hours.

Tony and I put up the shade thing I brought back from Ca. and the new little work table. Now we have a nice shaded outdoor work area. We didn't do feeders and planters due to lack of electricity. Maybe tomorrow. I did repot some of my plants and did more of the endless clean up.

Extra prayers and hugs for those with "mom" stuff going on.

hugs, katie

P.S. at www.indiegogo,com there is information about an electric car to change the world. The man designing is Jesse, the man from whom I have bought seeds for new foods to grow here. He and his wife are in Costa Rica and doing what I'm doing here - working to increase the number of food plants that are grown locally.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, doesn't Darlene drive? I could swear she had her own car when we were there. You are going to run yourself ragged....you are a blessing to do all this
for her, but you need to take care of you too.

Katie, don't over do it. So happy you have Tony and I just hope you let him do the hard work.
My cousin Wayne has built an electric Corvette, its a big show car in California and has been on display at several places.

Judy, saying prayers and sending arm wraps. Keep Breenie & Jake in my thoughts and prayers. Yes, Whooping cough is rampant up here also and they are asking ALL parents to get their kids in high school, and college kids re vaccinated. I believe certain adult groups also

Waving hello to everyone.....The child is moved back in and I am just reorganizing myself.

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, all of last week she was suffering from infection in her eyes/cheek, she was making appt with doctor's office when she got call about her dad and all hell broke loose so she is not even thinking about it..also, she cannot night drive!!!

Darlene just called, her mom is now in Barrie hospital waiting for surgery time. Suse her youngest sister is with her mom but nurse says all Mae wants to do is sleep, likely the drugs so Suse will leave shortly and as soon as the call comes in then it will be a trip to pick up Darlene and to Barrie we go..

I'm often run down, at least this run down will be for a good reason..

How are you doing Debbie, feeling better?

Lyndonville, NY

I am Ok Betty. The drama stress is taking its toll, but I can deal with it. Went down to the creek with my camera today....that is my mental therapy.
Forgot about Darlenes' infection with eyes....while she is at one of these hospitals...someone should take a look!!!

Whew finally back!

OH Thank You all for Prayers and Good thoughts, as well as armwraps for my kids!!
Yes indeed, this is the online comfort food! Sometimes, I just would go nits if i didn't have all of you to do my blabbing to...lol.

Yes prayers certainly helped us! Jacob is going to be alright, for this I am very grateful. He has a spurditous(sp?)
on his bone. Nothing torn..Gave him a perscrip for Alieve for the inflammation and he is to rest it for 2 weeks, Therapy, which includes some water therapy...So actually he is ahead of the game since he does the therapy at school, has not been engaging in any sports activity. He got a doc note for missing Gym all week...
Betty, he is not really that disappointed about the football, but he wants to be back in top shape for Wrestling, which is his true love. We will be at the game since he is one of the Captains. They most likely will not play him since he is not at practice. He said that's why they have the fill in's. (Jr. V. ). i can't tell you how relieved I/We are it isn't worse...Well while we were there he also got 3 shots and has to go back in a month for the last injection of ?? lol can't remember!

I've been having a few issues of my own, decided I better get checked out too...Made an appt for next Tues, for which i will also get a flu shot and most likely booster for tetnous...and of course im sure they'll be chasing for womanly stuff..So, have to go through my records for all the last visit for this and that...

I am pretty wiped for today, going to have to call it a week and half for me, I mentally exhausted!

I'm going to rest a little bit and come back later...Love you all and Thank you Again for prayers, Good thoughts and armwraps, they were fely by all of us.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All ;

Debbie - it's so beautiful where you live... I really enjoy your pics... Can't you just feel your blood pressure go down when you head outside and start taking a walk around?
Will it be that way if/when you move? (ie country or city?)
Oh Betty bless your heart for being there for Darlene. Why does it seem like sometimes people have to handle all their heartaches in such close proximity.... Don't forget if you are run down to take your vitamins. I had also taken Theas advice and got some magnesium and it helps too...
Katie - that is wonderful what you are doing down there to help people feed themselves... can you get something to fight those mosquitoes? Remember I think I had West Nile virus... Jean had pointed it out to me....
you don't need anything like that to slow your recovery...
Barb shame on those people you never know how someone is ill. There were some band moms who volunteered with me... they had painful something...forgot what it was called but you couldn't tell by looking at them....
Thank you Thunder for the hugs...
LK - Prayers for your Dad... yes he must be quite a fighter...

I'll pop back with the night shift.... Sorry if I've missed something but I'll catch up tonight....

Hugs
Mary

Judy, so glad to hear his knee is not that bad! Now get him in the pool, and get the strength back in it!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Doing the happy dance Judy, so glad that he'll be ok with a little tender loving care from good ole mom..Bet you took a big sigh of relief!! and you Jude Babe, aren't you the one who is also always nattering at me to look after myself..glad you made the appt. at the doctors...you are likely run down!!! How is Breenie tonight?

Mary, you are home early, what is up??? how are you feeling??

Wish Bev and Suse would post a 'hi' just so we know they are ok..

Went to the new grocery store after work, put a few things in a cart, went and put them back..checked out my cel and the car phone to make sure both are working and came home..had a feeling that Darlene needed me and what would I do should she have called with me having a carload of groceries so home I came.

Was going to lay down and have a rest but instead decided to machine quilt another runner..want them behind me..besides, if they are quilted I can put the edging on and sit watch t.v. and sew vs. laying on the chesterfield and sleep my life away.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

So glad to hear Jake is going to be okay. Was worried there for a while. And I'm happy to see so many are taking care of business this month. The "girls" may not like being squished but it sure beats a bad alternative.....

mulege, Mexico

Good news about Jake. It might have been cortisone shots.

I slept all afternoon and feel much better now. Hope I can sleep tonight. I hate getting all turned around but I hardly slept last night and was really beat. Had to get up to feed the dogs. When it's about dinner time they all come to remind me. Luckily I'd cooked lots of food last night so I didn't have to cook today.

The new shelter with the new little table under it looks good. I think toomorrow will be a play day.

I gave Tony some early Christmas presents: Two boxes of four place settings each of Christmas dinner ware and a big poinsetta patterned table cloth. With their huge family gatherings it won't be enough for everyone but it's great fun for the kids.

Barbara is fourteen this year. When she was two she thought all the presents should be hers, When she was three Fely worked for me on Saturday mornings and Barbara, going through separation anxiety, would call mid-morning to be reassured that Mom was coming back. Until one morning when I was outside and Fely answered the phone and Barbara asked ina very adult voice to speak to me. Fely explained I was outside; Barbara insisted. When I came back inside Fely was laughing. Barbarar had finally explained that she wanted to borrow a Christmas video from me. So much for separation anxiety. The next year, when she was four, I saw the family after Christmas and Barbara gave a small handful of pesos. She wanted to help with the Christmas presents that I buy for the neighborhood kids. I almost cried as I thanked her and explained that the money would help me with presents for the next year.

Tony's kids are related to almost everyone in town which I think has been great protection for them growing up. Not much opportunity to get in trouble without being observed.

I'm still groggy so I hope I'll be able to get back to sleep.

hugs, katie

Baton Rouge, LA

OH JUDY ! So glad for Jake... I know he wants to finish out his senior year of wrestling strong.... Hope Breenie is feeling better and you know those notes our Gals have posted on Whooping Cough hits home... so PLEASE have her bloodwork done if she is coughing excessively hard.... I can dmail you some of my symptoms....

Yes Betty I've worked so hard this week.... Boss sent me out of town around 2pm more towards Jean's way so no way was I going back downtown... so came home early and did paperwork on the computer.

May have to head to NOLA Sunday and will be thinking of you.....

Katie you really are a pillar of that community... it's so nice to think of the ways you help everyone... They love you back it's like a family I'm sure....

Guess Thea is enjoying Oktoberfest by now.... thinking about her....

So glad Barb for your news....

Hugs

morning all,
Much to do with this long weekend, cannot get to town for groceries and winter closing supplies till 3:00pm so in the meantime I will spend my day cleaning, sewing and maybe put out a few fall/Halloween decoration.

Always with an ear to the phone incase Darlene calls and needs me!

Mary, love how you now associate me with NOLA, sweet as the kids would say. What do you have planned for the weekend?

Katie, you sure have yourself a caring family. Now that you have your shade shelter up will you finally get to sit and enjoy..resting is part of the healing process.

Off to make coffee, now where is LindaKay with the sweets?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Here I am Betty, how about some monkey bread? It is called monkey bread, because once you see someone pull a piece off, they can't resist, and they have to do it too. Monkey see, monkey do!!!

Monkey Bread
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cans biscuits
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, if desired
1/2 cup raisins, if desired
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
Heat oven to 350°F.
Lightly grease 12-cup fluted tube pan with shortening or cooking spray.
In large -storage plastic food bag, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon.
cut each biscuit into quarters.
Shake in bag to coat. Arrange in pan, adding walnuts and raisins among the biscuit pieces. (optional)
In small bowl, mix brown sugar and butter; pour over biscuit pieces.
Bake 28 to 32 minutes or until golden brown and no longer doughy in center.
Cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn upside down onto serving plate; pull apart to serve. Serve warm.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN TURNING THIS OVER, AS THE GOOEY BROWN SUGAR WILL RUN, AND IT IS HOT!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hi all - can't remember all I read, so not even going to try - please know that I pray for all in need, and love you ALL

Likely won't be online until I get back on Sunday eve - leaving today about suppertime-ish.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Columbus Day weekend everyone!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Have a good trip Susan!
Betty, sounds like a nice day to me!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just finished bagging about 60 small packets of seed, want to bring some on the weekend..still in my Jammie's, it's a sunny day but wind is up..thinking of trying after work that mower that sucks leaves and mulches..now is the time with all the leaves on the ground to try it or back it goes!

Susan, enjoy!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

The thing I want most is for Bob to relax. He hasn't been sleeping well for the past several weeks. He wakes up 3x a night and always at the same time - 1:30, 3:30, 4:30 (ish). I know he's been overworked, but otherwise he's also worrying about me.
He barely got in the door on Wed when he got a call from "Bob" asking him to take him to Totem Building Supply to look at lumber. If he bought any, he would pay Bob to deliver it. He didn't buy any.....
Between working on our home, and full-time job, he's also doing other people's repairs on their homes, and another person has asked him to do their gutters. I know they are paying jobs, and with me not working, we need the $$ but I don't want it at the expense of his health........ Not only is he not sleeping, but he's physically exhausted. I hope this break "away" gets him relaxed....... he needs to get sleeping.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, sounds like he need a sleeping pill? Maybe give him a benadryl, that will make him drowsy.

mulege, Mexico

I don't think the link I posted works but you can Google indiegogo and read about Jesse's electric car. There are lots of interesting projects there. I got a very nice personal email from Jesse thanking me for my contribution. He has some new seeds posted on eBay.

I've had a lazy day. Slept extra last night and this morning. Still recovering from the trip and the surgery and etc etc etc.

Setting up to play tomorrow.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dropping in with a quick 'hi'

Darlene left a message while I was in town, her mom made it through the surgery..they gave her spinal because of all her health issues..while her mom was being operated on Darlene went and picked up Art's ashes..how difficult that must have been...when I called she said she was writing to Mike, her journal to Mike has been her savior. said she sat him next to Mike's ashes..deep sigh!

She came home for the night, is going to try and get a good nights sleep..here is hoping.

As for myself did the groceries..had a list of building supplies and got all but one item..hate unpacking groceries .

Picked up Chinese food so my plans is to have hot bath, eat then relax looking at new quilt book I just bought..lovely Christmas patterns for lap quilts, table runners and wallhangings..seeing I've just finished (4 of the 7) I made perhaps I'll pick one of the patterns and do it...well perhaps dream of doing them Lol

Susan, hope Bob gets to relax..no helping everyone in the park.

katie, nice to be appreciated and thanked.

Well going to rest because I want up extra early tomorrow morning as I've pies/pies pies to make.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

LK - think I'll "ply" him with hot chocolate, instead of coffee! He drinks coffee until 11pm.... I told him I think his system has changed and coffee is no longer allowing him to sleep as he used to.

Betty - must be the most difficult day in recent memory, for Darlene..... what a day/week/year!!
as for Bob helping everyone in the park......... he can't help it LOL Thing is though, I think each site is pretty private, so he may not know there's something to help them with. 'Sides......he's going to be pretty busy figuring out the Motor Home lol

Katie - good for you - enjoy your playing!! I know WE will enjoy Our playing lol

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Yes - Betty I know I will think of you in NOLA ... your love for that city is just infectious ! Witchy poo's BOSS gave Lance and I Suite Saints tix... we'll head to the gelato shop I told you about first for lunch.... I'm much less nervous than this time last year when we went.

LK - saved the Monkey Bread recipe. DSD1 loves it. Whenever I'd make Zucchini or banana bread we'd call it Monkey bread so she would try it... she never knew the difference....

Susan - hubs hasn't been sleeping well lately. I agree he needs to stop with the caffeine....

Katie - sometimes you just need a "Lazy Day" I call a "Mental Health Day" LOL.....

Oh dear MIL is in the hospital. She has an infection but you remember had a kidney removed in June so they are not taking chances.... we just went up there for 2 hours to stay with her....

Hugs

Morning all

Prayers for your MIL Mary, having spent almost a year in hospital and having kidney operation I. Know how painful they can be and how life threatening..glad they are taking no chances.. Would think you (firm) have commercials slated for the game? enjoy

Dianne, soon time for picking names on behalf of Santa Warren..getting excited! Love hearing stories of Diesels antics especially as I'm missing Sailor.
Are you now all winterized?

Gee it's black out there, I'm anxious to start my day so until I see what the weather is I'll start with pies. I'd be thrilled if I got the back veranda closed in, test leaf machine, pies and maybe another table runner..not asking for much am I?

When in town yesterday I bought a sheet of lexon, clear plexiglas glass, salesman guaranteed me I could cut my templates sames as the white plexiglas I had, leaving that job for when it rains.

Coffee time then my day starts

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sending prayers for you MIL too Mary. I also told my kids stories about zucchini bread - they liked pumpkin bread so that is what they thought it was.

Sounds like you are healing quite well Katie. I'm happy for you.

Glad to hear things are looking up at Judy's house too. Great report about Jake.

Hope everyone has a great long weekend. And Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Canadian friends.

Off to the shower and then shopping. NNeed more lining material for my little bags...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like everyone is busy today, sewing, baking...

Dianne, I agree with Betty, we need some guidelines and names for our swap buddy please?

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello All and Good Morning !

THank you Barb, Dianne, Betty and LK for the prayers for MIL. She is such a strong woman it's difficult to see her down...

Dianne I am just picturing you trying to stay on the computer and Diesel staring at you thinking "Pay attention to me Now!"

Never hear of Pumpkin bread Barb, I may need to look that up....

We do carry Saints Betty... I've sold more LSU commercials than Saints this year though... I think tomorrow's game is on Fox or NBC... we are CBS.... Interesting note... when LSU plays Alabama... we are carrying that game this year... those :30 second commercials are $5,000 ! :)
I've lost track LK... when is the trek up north ? should be soon ?

Hugs,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Please check 1st post to see if I've missed any of you in the 'Santa Warren Christmas Gift exchange".

Won't be long and we will have our name..should have made deadline this coming Friday as many of us are out shopping..anybody opposed..if I'm correct we've 9 participants right?

Mary you've done well with the advertising..does that mean you have to root for them? Lol. You will so enjoy tonight.... Any updates on MIL?

Barb bet you come home with more than backing..how many of the totes have you and are you making?

Covered in flour, just cleaning up..can you tell me why 10 -12 people need 11 pies..

2 lemon meringue, 4 pumpkin, 2 apple, 1 cherry, 1 blueberry and 1 coconut cream
Just know the boys will come up with one I forgot.

Oh well, always nice to say take one home on your way out. Lol

Just as I was thinking of heading out to try that leapfrog sucker it started to rain..drats

As soon as I've finished browning the merangue think I'll go and machine another quilt top..they look nice, not sure anyone I'm giving them to are into table runner but it's a gift and what the do with them afterwards is up to them...is repurposing gifts still in?

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, what no Pecan pie? lol Sounds like you have been a regular Betty Cooker....yes pun intended from Crocker.

Cold here, only 48.

Dianne, thinking of you....sending hugs.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is a lot of sweet tooth's Betty!

Mary, I am flying out this coming Thursday morning!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

I would bet that not one person you give them to will repurpose! They are just beautiful!

Someone is sure to ask for pecan!!! LOL!

Hugs to Babe and Jake....glad for the good news.

Debbie, hang in there sistah.....someday you'll look back at this time and smile...(well, maybe not!)

Katie glad you got your outside things. I'm smiling just thinking of you playing there!

Hugs for Darlene....what a hard time for her. It was bad enough losing my mother and my dad in less than a year, but I can't imagine losing her hubby and her dad and now this terrible time for her Mom. Wish I could help someway. How is Anne doing right now? Hugs for Suzanne, too. Hope she's feeling better.

Hugs to Mary and MIL too, hope she's doing good by now.

Hope Susan and DH are having a wonderful time. I agree about the coffee. That happened to me in my 30's. I used to be able to drink coffee all day and all night and still sleep like a log. Hated it when I had to switch to decaf and now rarely drink coffee after 3:00 pm. I also take my melatonin religiously!

Barb, glad to see your spirits are up and that Norm is doing well.

LK, when are you leaving this week? I'll so be anxious to hear that you're in MI safe and sound. Bet your Dad is anxious to see you, too.

BABE! Can't wait for my arm wrap! ^_^

I'm still trying to convince Bertie to come along. Since they cancelled their trip to MI I said she should ride along with me. Won't cost anything but food....she hasn't broached the subject with her DH yet.

It's 50 out right now and I'm getting ready to head outside. Brrrr...guess since the sun is shining it won't be too bad. I still have 5 things that need to be planted in the ground and ferns that will have to come inside today because it will be in the 30's tonight and the 20's tomorrow night. Can't bear the thought of losing my precious ferns!

Well, looks like I need to join in the Santa Warren exchange to even things up at 10. I wasn't around when Santa Warren was, but I'm here with hugs for Dianne!
