Barb, thanks for the update on Norm..we prayers go with both of you!
Best/Worse/What did I learn today?visit with friends
Morning everyone!
Barb, please drive careful, and let us know how everything went please? Sending lots of prayers for both of you as well!
Guten Morgen Everyone!!!
I am back!!! My Honeybunches was able to fix my laptop yesterday!! For months my laptop would randomly blue screen and shut down on me, so needless to say I didn`t use it often. But I always kept you in thoughts and prayers.
First off I want to send prayers, hugs, positive thoughts and my love to Barb and Norm. I am still in shock that Norm has to once again battle this evil called cancer. Hang in there Girl, we are right there with you and we will fight this together!!!
Betty…I am so sorry to hear that your “puppy girl” went over the rainbow bridge…it is never easy to let them go as they surely are a part of the family. I love the quilted table runners and Dresden plate topper you made!! Already have the patterns bookmarked and it is on my to-do list!! I might bug you if I need help with it…lol The memory quilt you made for your friend is soooo beautiful and I am sure it will bring her lots of comfort in times of sadness. You surely are an energizer bunny…all the traveling you did, makes me tired just reading about it!!! Ohhhhh and count me in for the Christmas Exchange, wouldn`t want to miss that for anything!! Have you had any thoughts about our annual Christmas craft project?? Count me in on that one as well!!! lol
Dianne…I hope all is well with you and that Diesel is giving you lots of Joy and Laughter!! Nothing like a little wet puppy nose or tongue to keep your spirits up!!
Debbie…I need more pictures of MY Bunny!!! Still trying to convince my DH to have a little bunny as a pet…his response is “If you catch the wild bunnies that are in the yard, you can have him/her as a pet” lol
Judy…I love the memory quilt you made for Brian’s baby girl…such a thoughtful gift and I am sure that little girl will treasure it always…so sad that she will never be able to meet her Daddy. I hope your son will get better soon and hopefully it is just a minor injury so that he can keep on doing his sports.
LK…sending prayers and hugs for your Dad and hope you have a wonderful visit with him and the rest of the family. Baby Dylan is growing sooooo fast and he is just adorable…can`t wait to have Grandkids of my own to spoil!!
Bev…and how are things with you?? My flowers were kind of a bust this year…was just way too dry and being on a well… can`t water flowers and then have no water for the house, so they suffered. Oh well always next year!!! Wasn`t there a wedding and or a grandchild in your future?
Mary…and how is my southern Belle??!! Hope your stepdaughters are feeling better. As for your “boss”, stay strong and become assertive. I was like you, I was intimidated and just took whatever verbal abuse my boss threw at me, then one day as she started again harping on me and trying to put me down in front of customers, I told her quietly and calmly to stop talking to me like that, well she blew a casket and told me not to bother coming back the next day. Soooooo I just smiled at her and told her “You know what…I quit right now”...OMG it was the most liberating feeling ever…like tons of bricks lifted of my shoulder. Be strong Girl and show her she can`t walk all over you!!!
Susan…hope your renovation project is coming along nicely, so that you are nice and cozy when winter comes!!! Might also make a big difference in your heating bill!! Also hope that you soon find a job that is suitable for you…So did they cut your unemployment short or what happened there? And why did you had to talk to Revenue Canada, I thought they only deal with taxes and has nothing to do with unemployment.
Thunder...so good to see you back as well!! Can`t wait to see all the quilting projects you did over the summer!! Bet it was soooo nice to have all the kids under one roof. Btw how is your DH doing? Didn`t he had back surgery way back when? Hope he is feeling better and that he is up and about.
Katie…prayers and good thoughts coming your way and I hope you feel a lot better soon and that your recovery from surgery will be a fast one. One step at a time!!!
Andy…wish you lived closer…you could then go on bike tour with my DH!! Like you my DH started biking and boy what a difference…he lost weight and his BP is nearly perfect now. The Doc figured if by the start of next year his BP is still as good, he can get of his meds!!
Crissy…way to go on the divorce!! I bet you feel a lot better now, now that you got rid of the “dead weight” lo.l It is a new beginning for you and yes it will be tough at times, but you can do it!!! Every year on the 11th of October I celebrate my “Day of Freedom”…this year it will be 28 years!!!
Joycet…sending you hugs and prayers for your recent loss of your dear Dad. I loved seeing the picture of him; he has these little twinkles in his eyes and looked like a very gentle soul. May he rest in peace…
Liz…I can only imagine that it must be overwhelming for your DH with having to deal with diabetics…hope you will get all your questions answered soon.
Suse and Laura!!! What happened to them?? Miss seeing them post…
Hope I didn`t forget anybody!!! If so I apologize!!
Well and as for me…I was busy busy with quilting and gardening this summer!!! We also started a new “Beginner Quilter” group in town and I have been busy every Friday teaching an Applique Class and we will be teaching other various quilting projects. It brings me a lot of joy and fun and it does wonders for my wellbeing!!!
AND…my Sweetie and I will be leaving next Wednesday to go to Germany for 14 days to visit with family and go for a few days to the German/Austrian Alps!! Needless to say I am busy getting everything ready for the trip. So better get going and finish some of my quilting that I take for gifts!!!
Have a wonderful day everyone and lots of hugs and love coming your way!!!
Love Thea
Thea, so glad to see you pop in! Glad to hear your computer is fixed! Sure hope you take a camera with you on your trip to Germany and the Alps!
Waving big time Thea!!! loved your post, so upbeat..
Will add you to Santa Warren's Christmas Exchange and hoping that through my travels this weekend I'll find an easy to do, easy to ship project, almost that time isn't it?
Thea, meant to add, sure hope your trip goes well and back holds up...
Enjoy the family!!

Oh Barb, those are adorable! When do you find the time?
Ahhh they are just too adorable, how many are you making?
Kids will feel so blessed getting them..same question as LindaKay, how do you fit so much in..
wow Thea - What A Post! So glad you got it all in! Also glad your DH fixed your computer - that must have been so frustrating.....
They didn't cut my unemployment benefits short - No one gets a year anymore, I guess, so mine was only 24 weeks and it ran out. Guess with all the short term/temp employment I'm no longer eligible for any more benefits.
Revenue Canada is after Bob. Apparently, when he went bankrupt in 2004, the bankruptcy trustee didn't send in the last year's tax form, and we didn't know why Revenue was "after us" until 1 month before the Trustee was legally able to shred all their documents for the file. Then, when we contacted them, they said they were "archived" and when they looked they said they were already shredded - 1 month before the time they legally could. Now they no longer have anything on us, and we're stuck. We'd managed to bring the $$ owing Revenue from $16k to $10k, and with penalties it's gone back up to $15k...... When they came around to our home, they said we have a few choices - file a Hardship form and that could mean either stopping further penalties and/or deleting past so we could catch up - file a Hardship form and get the back taxes deleted entirely - file for insolvency. I'm so mentally "fried" that I'm not sure What to do. We don't owe anyone else, and we're able to "keep our heads above water" for now.
They don't want our home (it's only worth about $30k), and the vehicles we drive are leases so we can't sell them to pay Revenue as they first suggested. We have no equity in anything else, other than our furnishings, and nothing's new enough to do anything with.
btw - I went to a company called Champions, which helps disabled people (I have a medical disability) get employment (no, they're not an employment agency, but some companies do go to them to see if they have employable people). I went to an orientation on Tuesday, then an Intake Worker yesterday. On Monday I'm going to see an Workplace Employment worker, and she will see what my "employability" is and hopefully match me with a company. As I said, they're not an Employment Agency, so I continue to search on my own.
Champions has workshops, and I'm going to attend one when there is one, on Interview Skills because people are calling me based on my resume, but I don't get beyond the phone or face-to-face interview. I don't know what's wrong with my interviewing skills. There has to be something I'm missing.
Mind you, I've gotten past HR people, just not the bosses, before (Spring of this year). Now I'm not even getting past the HR people..........
The fact that I'm 58 may or may not be a factor. Apparently companies are wanting experience and "personality" now more. Employment agencies, however, aren't giving me the time of day. Don't know why.......they aren't saying, other than "we only have entry leven positions, and you're more experienced than that....obvious in your resume"
Thea !!! so good to see you :)
computers...the most loved, and most hated thing in the house!!! when they are working it is great, when they don't....well then they just totally suck. !!!!
Yes, hubs had back surgery, he did very well with it, thanks. still has pain, always will.....sigh.....but it is much less than before. he is now able to go to the gym, and get some much needed exercise, he goes 2-3 times a week. doctor had sent him to physical therapy, and they gave him a routine to do at the gym :) so each time he goes he does different things.....so he is working his whole body......It is almost like having a new man in my life......I tease him that he is turning into a hunk!!!!! (always was one to me) now if I could just figure out how to lose a few more pounds.....
hugs to you this morning Barb, adorable bags..
Betty, I missed sailor's passing...so sad to read that......big big "armwraps" to you......I know all to well how that feels.......
I did not get package yet, should be soon I would think, sure will let you know asap. what are you creating today?? I have dresden plates to finish for the swap.... and I just saw an adorable Halloween skirt, that I do believe I will HAVTA make for Miss M... LOL
well I have to go get ready for work, have a great day Y'all
many hugs...
Susan, you are just batting a thousand aren't you.. if you've already done a bankruptcy then a 2nd would be for an extended amount of time, here would be least $225 month for 18-24 months but then you'd be free from them, not sure what it would be in Alberta..perhaps you could see them to find out..also Superintendent does Harship cases as well but very/very difficult to get done especially as you own your own home. I would act sooner than later as the interest will just continue to increase. Hope Champions can find you something. Do you think your last temporary employer blackballed you??
Thunder, so glad you are back on line..lucky you, new hunk in your life, wish I had me one..joking of course, quite satisfied with my life right now. Glad all the efforts hubby is putting into fitness is helping his back along with the operation, nice to hear. As for the package they did say 3-5 days so might be next week, nothing too thrilling in it, just those 3 thread catchers I promised you.
Hoping to get update from Judy regarding Jacob..
Betty, I missed the news about Sailor, too. I'm so sorry. Max, who's my smallest and Jenny, the biggest, have developed a very playful relationship (exxcept when ther's food involved). It is fun to watcch as Jenny rolls over and pretends to surrender to Max who is about one-sixth her size. Misty used to play endless with both puppies and kittens.
Also, Betty, thanks for reminding that Ihave to recover from the trip. Even when I havenn't had knee surgery it takes about a month to rest up.
Trouble sleeping again last night. Lots of mosquitoes, heat, humidity and pain. Nothing life threatening I remind myself and put on a DVD.
It's finally starting to rain!!! Hooray. We check the hurrican center regularly and we seem safe for now. Rain is always welcome and may cool things off.
Pain killers are starting to work.
I've been surfing a lot of craft sites. Lots of ideas. I Have a lot of clean up to do.
The rain is so welcome.
hugs, katie
Katie, glad you are resting..know I've asked this before but how many driving hours does it take???
Lordy, know when I went to New Orleans it took me a week to start feeling normal..you don't think it's hard on you but driving, paying close attention to the road does play a toll.
That being said, now off to lay down, keep scanning crafts, enjoy listening to the rain and REST!
Betty - I'm certain my last temp position blackballed me.
I'm also certain that rules MAY be different for different provinces re: hardship. As Alberta is a "wealthy" province, it may be tougher.......
As for Champions, they have a Support Specialist position listed on their job board, so I thought "ok, it's been many years, but I was there for 4 1/2 yrs (unheard of, to be in a tech position so long), and maybe I should go back to what I know, even if it is a *political* nightmare". At least they pay well..............
The rain was POURING down so I sent Tony home early, just in case the road floods out.
The drive home takes about a day and a half. It's 600 miles, most of it on two-lane roads like we had in the fifties. I do not hurry, pull over if I start to get tired or impatient. The trip home is nice because the farther south I get, the prettier the scenery is.
The rain has let up some. Lots of it in the house - desert living. A ghekko is in the kitchen and the dogs went nuts.
I am enjoying that I am not in pain. As long as I don't move much.
Tony planted the seeds from the first sweet Papaya and is very excited that many of them have germinated.
The rain is just pouring down. Reluctant as I am I have to check the other rooms,
hugs, katie
it's good news about 'no pain' but my eyes just opened wide..rain inside, so hoping you will not have to start moping up..know you are under construction .. save it for Tony!
"rain inside"......... well, you certainly live a different life in the desert............ and a ghekko? I know they're cute in the commercials, but don't they spit and scratch? No wonder the dogs went nuts lol
They are indeed cute..am sure they are not harmful..watching for mice, usually one or two try to get in come fall..Missy just loves to hunt, I'm sure she'll put a run or worse to them.
Quick drop in before I head for home..headache city so won't be a late night! Suzanne left about 1/2 hr. ago, she's running a fever, sneezing etc. so hope I'm not catching what she has..spoke to Darlene and her eye has been infected all week, been to see the eye doctor 3 times so unless the new meds work she'll not be going to Meaford. Ann won't as well because they are thinking of closing one of our area churches..big meeting Saturday morning so she's on the speaking committee so no go..likely only 2 or 3 of us are.. more room for shopping right?
Reason I wanted to post....
Went downstairs for lunch, coming back was an elderly couple, man had very poor eyesight..they were walking hand in hand so I went up to them and said how nice it was to see a couple holding hands..lady jumped up and said he's just a friend, 2 years now, we're not married or anything..then said, I always wanted my husband to hold my hand but he never would, then I find out why, he was too busy running around holding someone else's hand......ok, just wanted to say how nice it was lol
Thanks all i feel better oh and betty on happier note im getting a unplanned retirements package from my former employer guess i,ll be getting passports sooner tban i thought.
thank you everyone getting on a happier note I'm getting a surprise package from my former employer retirement package I didn't even know I was eligible 4 so it looks like now will be able to come to Canada spring or summer time
Home from work, took something for my head and shoulders (sounds like shampoo right) already in my jammies, in bed for the night..imagine that!
Oh Liz, doing the happy dance. Which employer would that be? Did ou recently change jobs?
Wonder how Jacob is?
Betty, did you take your blood pressure meds today?
Liz, that is great news about the retirement package!
Liz - how lovely that you will be able to come to Canada!! Are you going to be coming to Calgary? (hint, hint)
Betty - a *married* elder couple in our church hold hands........ She says it's because he's blind, and he needs it, but she also says "I Love it!!" so sweet. She says they never used to, as he's an independant walker, but now they do and she's really pleased.
Hi...quiet but very busy day.
OH Betty, thanks about Jake. Ii brought up about the school paying for the dr.
Both He and dh just laughed said good luck with that. Jacob told me to cancel the apptment, Ii did not. dr appt not until the 4th. It was the best I could get. Just praying he doesnt make it worse...they think Im over reacting! Hello, your only 17! Your legs have to last you a lifetime.
Lots done including copying 6 months of receipts...lol so glad thats done!
We have got to get the house sold! Lots of showings, we even brought the price down a bit. SIGH.
Awe, so sweet about hand holding couple...lol, you could have done without the added info. What you going to do, elders sure speak their minds.
Betty, I also wanted to say I really enjoyed the pictures of the boys from the weekend. I was nicely surprised to see Kyle was able to go as well. For some reason i thought he wasnt going.
Ohhoh, ill be back gotta dash for afew...hope your headache is gone.
After 2 Tylenol 3's, no relief..it's the pain again back of head down into the shoulders, feels like I've got 200 lb sitting on shoulders..it's nothing serious, just put something out of whack. Got pillows under my knees to take the pressure off..going to be a long ight if I cannot sleep!
Frustrating when finances are held up in the house and you know it's well worth the asking price and yet no offers. Do you think Steve will take on another ?? He seems to do better in reno's downtown and without a partner. Is Jake right off his leg?
Hello To All !
Nice to see you Thea ! Yes - When I am strong with witchypoo she doesn't give me as much grief. I'll have to meet with her tomorrow over a client not keeping a promise which she usually blames me for... so will try to remember to stand my ground.
SO EXCiting you are going to Germany ! Will you just visit with family or see some sights as well ?
I've read all... so sorry for those who are hurting....yes our little group has had struggles lately....
(HUGS)
Mary
Susan dont know?
Betty are you near Susan?
no it was jc penny i worked there for 18 years then they went to a outside warehouse so they closed the stockroom where we all worked so we got a real good severance package unemployment ect so i honestly thought it was a done deal in 2002
till i kept seeing things coming in the mail i finally went on line only to find out i was still active so instead of taking a pension i can have a lump sum and pay the penalty's,
but i thought about it and if jcpenney went under i would have no pension monthly so i decided to take the lump sum. take the money and run...
so that's how i can expedite a trip for Kenny and i sooner lol
Liz, check your Dmail please?
Betty, I got a very nice package today :) thank you, thank you....and many hugs......soft and gentle, i know those headaches, sorry you are having it. sure hope you get some sleep, and it goes away.
A tropical storm may be headed our way. Hope Tony makes it here tomorrow and can fill some sandbags.
My pain killers are working. I slept this afternoon so I'll take some Benadryl or I won't sleep tonight.
hugs, katie
Liz - I'm nowhere near Betty. I'm in Alberta, right above Montana.
I didn't "catch" where in Canada you were going to visit.
Early morning 'hi'
As I look at the clock I think of Norm and Barb getting up shortly, am sure they,ve been tossing and turning all night and aren't looking forward to the day ahead! big armwraps as Judy would say ..our prayers go with you!
Liz, I'd go for the payout..not nice of me directing you that way but ohhh if it means you get to visit me sooner than originally planned I'm all for it!
Mary, walk into that meeting as though you are the owner and you will intimidate her.
Katie, you are on high ground are you not? Wouldn't that lessen the chance of major flooding? Can you post the link for the weather so I can watch and worry right along with you..
Glad the package arrived, shouldn't take more than 1/2 hr for you to finish the thread catchers and sew on the grip after filling the pin cushion portion.
Susan, bet you are on countdown for camping trip in the rv...was it expensive for the insurance or can you pay by weekend use?
Jean, you've been quiet, hooe all is well in your neck of the woods..hooe it's just that you are busy in the gardens..
Speaking of gardens, I've not walked them in a week or so, not sure what's going on..know my 4 o'clocks are still in bloom near the staircase..each night I pick seed balls and as I climb the stairs I can smell the nicest sweet odor from the bugbane. Just ontop the hill I had planted in large pot the seeds that Cathy's dad had given me, notice they are in bloom...bet the 20 or so mum plants will shortly be in bloom..in the front I'vefot. Drats can't think of the name right now but they are in bloom so best tomorrow morning I go take a walk with my camera.
Back to watching tv
I'm up too Betty. What a pair we are !!!!! Think I will put some blues CDs on and just lay here in the dark. Good for the headache - the dark I mean. Maybe the sandman will creep in = a girl can hope.
Ah Meaford. I miss doing that show and staying at the Hilltop. Wonder how many new items you will see Betty or will it be the same old stuff. A neighbour brought me some Honey Crisp apples. Meaford was the first place I had that type of apple.
Diesel had his big boy shots today. He just charmed everyone in the office. The staff couldn't get over how happy and affectionate he was.. He weighed in at 46 lb. So if he is that at 4 mon I can hardly wait to see what he will be at a year.
Judy you make sure Jake gets to the doctor. As someone who had a HS sports injury that has led to 7 surgeries including 2 knee replacements on my right knee I cannot urge the importance of getting the knee checked. Of course the coach will use him, they care about winning not about Jake's scholarship.
Thunder it is so good to see you post. I look at my Kitchen angel every day and think of you.
OK need to lay still. Sending positive thoughts to Norm and Barb.
Dianne
I should have checked back in Dianne, we could have chatted...have you seen all the names up at top of thread?? All revvvvved up to do Santa Warren's Christmas exchange..you will be in it as well?
Diesel is already quite a size, holy wah.he will be dragging you about in your walks..bet he is Quill's best friend..missy is still mourning the loss of her dear friend..she always slept either on the pillow above my head or next to me while Sailor sllept on the floor next to the bed..she no longer comes in my room.
Wonder with the summer we've had how the apples will be. Originally they called for rain Saturday but now sau it will be on Sunday..
Morning everyone! It has been raining here since 11:00 last night, so I am enjoying the cool morning, and the plants really love this rain!
Looks like you two were not sleeping last night, sure hope naps are in order for you both!
Sunshine here this morning although on the cool side.
Very little sleep but stayed in bed feet propped up..still feels like the world is sitting on my shoulders, heavy!
LindaKay, good sew day for you
I should have cut grass after work yesterday but no could do..then with working from home I'm also unable to cut..Marg who is coming for the weekend will be here at 4:30 so hoping between 3:00-4:30 I'll get it done..running the roads doesn't help get your chores dne does it.
Understand out gas on top of the 3 cents Wedn will be gor g up nearly 7 cents this morning..never any reason forit..highway robbery.
Both kitties aren't happy with me, just did the advantage flea care, they no like. Lol
Well, housework done, tempted just to do nothing but know I'll be mad at myself if I do that so will see what little thing I can get I to..
Hope you've sunshine n your lives today!
Guten Morgen…rise and shine!!! Cold and crispy this morning (36F) and just heard a big flock of Canada Geese flying over the house heading south!!!! I always have the urge to yell at them to STAY!!
My thoughts and prayers are with Barb and Norm this morning, surgery should be in progress or almost done by now. Praying that it brings Norm some relief!! Big hugs for you both!
Barb those totes for the children are just adorable, you are such a sweetheart and always thinking of others!!! Definitely a project to keep in mind for the future, I will have to check with CHEO (Children’s Hospital) and see if they “allow” or would like a gift like this…so much red tape in our hospital systems it is not even funny. Makes it hard to donate things for them as they have guidelines and specifics as what and what not you can give or make for them.
LK…camera is ready and loaded!!! Will take lots of landscape and food pictures for all of you. Wish I could take you all along with me…imagine the fun and trouble we could get into…lol
Betty…I hope your headache is better this morning. Have you tried “Lakota Extra Strength” (you can get it at the Drugstore as a roll-on thingy) for your neck? I love that stuff for my back and neck if I have a pinched nerve…it heats up and soothes the area. Or maybe make an appointment for a medical massage…that is always nice as well. My back/hip is doing ok…pain still there, just have to learn to live with it and “ignore” it as best as I can…lol *hugs* hope you feel better soon.
Susan…what a big mess with the taxes!!! I sure hope and pray it will get all sorted out and it sounds like that the “champions” Company is just the right thing for you. Please don`t get discouraged, think positive and believe that you will get employment and that those people can help you.
Thunder…so glad that your DH’s surgery was a success and that he is now in less pain…less pain=happier person!! I heard you on those “pounds”…it seems like whatever my sweetie loses I FIND!! lol
Katie…stay safe and sound and hope you will have no water damage in your house!!! It is kind of funny…here we have the odd “mouse” in the house and you get geckos!!! Lol…not sure what would freak me out more…lol
Judy…the house looks so inviting now that you renovated it and I am surprised it hasn`t sold yet! Let’s hope and pray it will get sold soon…one less burden on your shoulders!
Mary…when you have your meeting today with her…remember we all stand behind you, nudging you on!! Stand your ground and smile at her. You can do it!!! We mostly will be visiting with family, but we are also renting a car and head out for a few days just by ourselves…have to go and see my “mountains”/Alps…lol
Dianne…so good to see you post!!! I can`t wait to meet your “little” big puppy in person one day!!! Maybe if the weather permits we come for a short visit in November. I need a Dianne “hug” lol…hope you are feeling better health wise and that you have lots of sunshine days.
DEBBIE!!! I need MY bunny fix!!! Hope all is well with you and that the kiddies give you no grief or problems.
Well I better get going and do some housework…those darn dust bunnies are starting to grow fast!!! Teaching the applique class this afternoon and then head for a harvest supper to a local church…so NO cooking for me…YAY!!! lol
Have a wonderful and sunny day everyone.
Love and many hugs
Thea
Guess 2 of my cats are practising to make themselves small so they fit in my suitcase...lol
Love those kitty pictures! Wonder why they love to cram into small places! Enjoy your harvest supper tonight!
Thea, your kittie on the left looks just like my Riley..Was making bags for the DIL's and Missy wouldn't get out of them, she loves getting into anything she can hide in. Who will look after your furries Thea?
Sounds as though you are thrilled to be teaching..am sure your students get a lot out of it. Teaching crafts whenever I could fit it in when I was rec co-ordinator gave me the biggest sense of fulfillment..know it's the same for you.
Have to check to see if the churches here do a Harvest Supper, maybe it's a way of feeding Marg. lol. Enjoy it..sure beats cooking.
As for my pain, was in an accident many many moons ago, Doctor Explained it in words I understood..said that the casing (just like the p,attic casing on electrical wires was missing in a small area of the nerve..know I'm not suppose to because it really aggravates and pains is wear anything heavy, not carry anything hanging from my shoulder etc. have been doing bit of both so I'll pay the price and learn..once I aggravate it it takes forever to ease off
Close to frost last night..still didn't do my garden walk about should do so..
