(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Those are beautiful! But I believe they would do well in Betty's region, as they don't like the heat we have here in the south!
Quote from the 2nd link...
Brugmansia sanguinea - the Red Angel's Trumpet - is one of the most beautiful and sought-after of all Brugmansias. I'll warn everyone up front that this is a cool-climate species and does not do well in hot conditions.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Jean, checked out the links, lordy they are gorgeous and red to boot!!
Marked them down on my list for checking out tonight..if not, maybe when you can order I'll have them sent to someone in usa and get them that way.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I've had the Datura Metel - purple and yellow. The Datura Inoxia is white.
Here's a pic of my Daturas

Hello All ;

Got to the morning meeting on time after an hour in traffic. Then left and home now. Took a mucinex then nap now up with some soup and tea with lemon and honey.
I am wondering what meds to try...cough has subsided but sore throat and achy.

WOW I've never seen or heard of red Brugs and I've never seen Daturas.

Got Daturas in the swap in April and babied them.... finally they got big enough to plant and I put them next to my Angel Trumpets.

After seeing banana peppers sprout on them... I realized they were marked wrong ROFLOL !

Something fun about Swaps.... like a "Box of Chocolates" as Forrest Gump would say...

Hugs
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ohhh sorry to hear you are home ill..maybe a day or two in bed will help..sorry, wish I could advise re medicine but you know me, a ditz when it comes to health issues.

Always some goodies in those swaps..so enjoy participating in them

mulege, Mexico

Hi Everyone,

We have white daturas growing wild where I live in Mexico. I see the double purple ones occasionally but they are "owned" so I can't collect them.

Prayers for Norm and Barb.

Would love to hear from crissy. Glad to know she's doing OK.

I am still fairly withdrawn. Working on my knee and still have some soreness in my right arm from when it was frozen. I have physical therapy tomorrow and hope to head for home on Wednesday. I've been gone too long.

Saw the surgeon on Thursady and we each thanked the other repeatedly for doing such a good job. It was nice. I've been working at the physical therapy and he could tell. Have talked to lots of others who've had this surgery and many are having problems, some quite serious. I'm glad to be a succes but have to keep at it while still can (before it "solidifies") so I'm in some pain most of the time - that's the only way to get improvement. I have a bunch of new-to-me books from Goodwill so I can distract myself by reading when I'm not walking, stretching or bending. I made up a recovery from knee surgery poem: "your walking won't end if you bend and extend." Covers it pretty well.

It's going to be hot today so i'm going to find some shade.

hugs, katie

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

cute poem, katie!! Anything that helps, eh? Good for you!!!!!

Mary - try some lemon & honey, plus ginger is also a good thing for sore and scratchy throats. I would suggest using the "real" thing, rather than all these chemical concoctions...... Slice and chop some ginger into your tea. Either that, or you can get some really good ginger drinks at an Asian market. They're strong, but that's what you need.

Victoria Harbour, ON

waving Katie, that is fantastic news.you've been hard at it and your doctor could see from your progres, no wonder he was thrilled with your progress.Sounds as though he's a poet as well lol. Can imagine how badly you want to get home, have you been in contact with Tony? am sure the furries will be glad to see you,

you will take several days driving to get home I hope, stops to walk and do your exercises.

Glad you were able to get on-line to let us know you are ok..

Now if some other MIA's would do the same we'd not worry!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Katie, I bet you are so excited about going home, you have been away for a long time. Drive careful please?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

LK...I was just being a bit snarky....I would LOVE to have the red Brug...but the heat and high humidity would not allow it to bloom much and that is the whole reason I want it....grin.I knew you would find it as pretty as I do....just wanted someone to share the AWW Shucks! with me.....sorry....

Mary, have you been bitten by a mosquito in the past month? There were 28 new cases of WNV in Louisiana, including BR and Ascension area. The phase 2 infection is Flu-like symptoms.....

Katie have a safe trip home. Good on you.

Susan, I love the Daturas too. I have tried growing a few different species....they like the heat here.

Hope everyone has a sweet evening

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

My dat seeds are just thrown on the ground, before winter, and in the Spring they "spring up" with great vim & vigour!!
They don't like the high heat on the south side of my place, but in the cool of the evening they are glorious!
I'm glad I not only have seeds (Inoxia - white, and Ballerina Meta - yellow & purple), but that I have an Inoxia in our place.
I couldn't have it before because our cat would have ingested it and they cause coma and/or death in pets.

Baton Rouge, LA

Wow Jean - I do think you have diagnosed me.... and yall know me... I've been eaten up by mosquitos lately....outside weeding, etc.

Even have some in the house !

Looks like flu like symptoms and since I'm healthy... they should subside after 3 days... which would be by tomorrow...

THANK YOU for pointing that out... Shucks I used to be so healthy now seems like I have to catch everything !

Susan thanks for the advice... I need to remember to keep the ginger when I order sushi next time...

Katie - so glad you popped in with us !

Betty - hope your day went well... (HUGS) To ALL

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

so very glad to be back. My boys are very good, thanks. Sailor boy is home, here til Sunday Morn.

He was in his brothers room earlier, they were playing a computer game....and laughing away.....such a GOOD sound, I had to stop sewing for awhile to "just listen". ^_^

hugs to Y'all

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

you're welcome, Mary - hope you get some relief from your sore throat, soon.

Well, just got home from the Community Garden meeting............ yikes...... I'm on yet another committee......
Turns out this is a grassroots committee, building a community garden, and there will be subcommittees:
Design / Build
Communications (I'm on this subcommittee)
Events/Fundraising - looking at grants, etc
Finance (once Events/Fundraising get the $$ they pass it to them to put in an account, etc)
So, subcommittees meet in 2 weeks, pass info to main committee and meet each month. First meeting actually in 3 weeks.
Sounds like it's going to be very busy for next 4 months........
The garden plots haven't been set up yet, only on paper. So, hexagon, or rectangular, or keyhole......

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

oh Thunder...... that Would be a good sound.......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning,

Anyone have sleeping pills to share or a good old fashion sledge hammer?

Mary, I do hope you are taking the next few days off..I think you have been unwell of late due to stress, bodies can react in such ways..you remind me of Suzanne who catches absolutely everything, she never stops and her body is starting to retaliate.

Thunder, wonderful Sailor boy is home..can relate, when my two boys are home I'm complete, just love listening to their banter..how the youngest, still employed? No cutbacks I hope!

Susan, don't get the volunteer burn out, know you are a take over/organize type of gal so it's easy to get involved but that is one tremendous amount of work..love they keyhole gardening plan

Prayers for Norm ..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to pop in and let you know we finally have appointments. On Sept 25th, Norm will see the thoracic surgeon, have an MRI and then a PET scan. We will be at the hospital all day long. First appt is at 9:30 am and the PET is scheduled for1:30 pm and takes 2 hours. Add the 1.5 hour drive each way and it is going to be a LOOOOng day. Norm actually slept better last night knowing that care was "in the works" so to speak. He was beginning to think like I did last year waiting for my gall bladder situation to be resolved. But treatment will begin and we will have a battle plan......
Thanking you all so much for your prayers. Please forgive me if I don't respond very often to posts as I want to get some things made up to keep me busy with hand work while we are at the hospital. Bindings are great to work on as they allow my mind to wander while I work......

Victoria Harbour, ON

thank goodness Barb you've got the appointments in place, that is half the battle..can certainly understand your needing something to keep your mind occupied..been praying several times a day..even asked my family who are enjoying heavenly gardens to bring your needs to the Highest.

Debbie, how are you feeling, are the new drugs working?

Drats, I'm soaking wet, we have torrential rains, road in some areas had over 1' of water, had to be extra cautious so that the car didn't plane..even though I had coverage from car to office I'm sitting in wet clothes..doesn't look as thought it will let up.

Wonder if Dianne and Thea have same??

Weather doesn't look great for the weekend in Darien Lake Debbie

Helping Suzanne cut fleece for rag quilt she is doing for granddaughters, that will keep me out of mischief and awake..drats hardly slept last night..guess part of it was I was in a sound sleep, Darlene called, was having a hard day with it being Mike's birthday and all, so I listened and we gabbed for 1 1/2, likely that was part of the reason

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear you did not sleep well Betty. If you don't have sleeping pills, get some benadryl, that will make you sleepy! Sure hope the rain lets up, for your week end! Hope you have a heater to stand in front of to dry those clothes, you don't need to get sick!

Mary, if you think you may have west nile virus, please get to the Doc ASAP! That is nothing to mess with. So far there has been 43 deaths from this stuff in the US!

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2012/08/cdc-says-deaths-from-west-nile-virus-jumps-to-41/1#.UFhwIo1lSz4

Up to 20% of people who contract West Nile virus develop symptoms that include fever, headache, body ache, swollen lymph glands and occasionally a rash on the trunk of the body. Symptoms appear within two to 15 days and then disappear within a few days.

About 80% of people infected with the West Nile virus have no symptoms.

Of those who develop a fever, fewer than 1% develop West Nile neuroinvasive disease which causes inflammation of the brain, spinal cord or the tissue surrounding the brain. About 10% of those will die, said Marc Fischer, medical epidemiologist with CDC's mosquito-borne illness division in Ft. Collins, Colo.

People older than 50 and those with compromised immune systems are more likely to develop this form.

Okay ladies - got a Dr appt for 1:20p... all those symptoms apply plus mental confusion boy did I have some dreams last night...had to wake up at 4am and convince myself I was in my own bedroom !

I feel MUCH better this morning though.... Betty will try to take it easy today although work is now piling up....

Thunder - what lovely sounds... glad to see you back with us. Susan - there may be some Community Garden grant money maybe you can google... seems like I read an article about that recently.

Will get a bite to eat and back in a bit...

HUGS
Mary

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Thanks Betty - when I went to the meeting last night, I thought it was just community members who were looking to get a garden, not a SetUp meeting to get them "rolling". They were startled by the concept of the Keyhole Garden - their concern is the "smell" of composting as it pertains to the neighbours.
Betty - How are you feeling today? Hope you got sleep AND dried off........ what do you do for dry clothes at work? Hate to think of you sitting there waiting to dry off. That's not good for you.
Mary - I'm only on the Communications and Ad Hoc sub committees - there's another sub committee for grants. I did mention the "United Farmers of Alberta" so whoever is on that sub committee will contact them, I'm sure.
SO GLAD you're feeling better. I didn't get the sense that you were concerned with West Nile Virus - that is Deadly, so please check it out.
Barb - glad Norm got some sleep, stress can be detrimental to health as we all know. I will keep you both in my prayers....

Victoria Harbour, ON

there we go, back to gab..got all of Suzanne's flannel cut for her rag quilt, I even took some of the smaller left over pieces and cut into 3" and 4" squares..if enough I will sew and make her dolly a small blanket.

Been extremely busy this morning, I managed to book 4 appts. for Paul, he called and wanted to know what was going on??? told him its because I brought fabric in to cut and another project, always when I plan a day of crafts it gets busy..asked me what I'm bringing in for tomorrow..lol

No sleep, won't be a late night, that being said it's t.v. bingo night..bought my and Ann's cards this morning on my way out of town, have them photo copied and so we can be really lazy and use the dabbers.

Susan, still feel a bit of dampness but that's ok..who knows, might get sick and have to stay home Wedn. and Thurs. - gee no, with my luck I'd be sick for the weekend and there would go the fun time with the 4 boys..

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

no, no, no Betty - you can't get sick......you're still dealing with the nasty headaches and lack of sleep!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

That would be me..lol
went to the grocery store on main floor and bought veggie's and dip..still raining just not as hard, feel damp so will stay inside.

Brought the little sewing machine Darlene had bought me when mine was in for repairs..raining so hard I left it in the car, should go get it and play and see if it will at least sew a straight line. think the time I tried to use it for mom we couldn't figure out the bobbin wind

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Quick HELLO! to everyone:

I ordered the U hauls Monday we will pick them up Oct. 5th pack and God willing pull out on the 6th. Still lots to finish up and take care of before that date, but will do my best and get it done before then.

Barb my prayers and thoughts are with you and Norm at this time and know that you are always in my thoughts and prayers. Sometimes the waiting can really get to a person, but know that we are all there with you both. Giving you that gentle hug and holding your hand while you set and wait for Norm to finish with the test, the results and what ever follows. You are never alone. Love to you both.

Hope all is well for everyone and wish you all the best for now. Will check in with you all when I get settled. God Bless and keep you and yours safe and happy.

Shirley, so nice to see you posting! Looks like your still busy, sorting, moving and cleaning! All this will be behind you soon! Hope your feeling well, and not over doing it! Hope you have help too? That is a lot of work!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

This is whats going on in South Texas today!

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/09/18/132-inmates-escape-from-mexican-border-prison-officials-say/

If you live in South West Texas, please keep your doors locked, and don't open them for strangers!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hi Shirley!! good to see you post! Hope the packing is done easily, and don't want you to over-tax yourself! Oct 5th/6th eh? wow that doesn't give you much time.....

Yikes, LK - that would be scary - 129 prison escapees.........

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shirley, you must surely be exhausted, you've been working so hard these past months..I imagine you are so looking forward to getting settled and being able to just sit and relax. Few more weeks of hardworking, sure hope you have help..we will be waiting anxiously to hear all about the trip/ the move and mostly that you are ok..sending hugs

LindaKay, is that near you? Lordy, someone's head will be on the chopping block..imagine, how could so many escape?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thank you Shirley for your warm words. I am so lucky to be a part of this family here and you all mean more to me than you know.
I saw that report on the news LK and my thoughts went immediately to you. Is this close by?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, it is close by, only 60 miles south of me! I have had the doors locked, and guns loaded, just in case some stranger starts walking towards the house,,they will not get very far!

Baton Rouge, LA

LK - you take care of yourself ! That's incredible !

((HUGS)) Barb... and Norm... I thought I posted that already but if not then TWO hugs....

Got shot from Dr. and Prescriptions and feel better already... so hopefully can get to work and catch up tomorrow.

SHIRLEY! I sure hope you will get plenty of help. Will it be a sigh of relief when you can get moved forward? You've worked so hard to get to that point...

HUGS all,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yikes, it scares me just to think you have guns in the house..would Imagine they know with all the news warning people that there is a possibility of guns in homes just waiting to be used should the need be. are the high crime inmates??
You will not sleep soundly tonight.

I was threatened about 20 years ago, said one night they would find me dead in a ditch somewhere..he was jailed for a crime, nothing to do with the event i called the police for, a few months later, police called me to say he'd broken out of jail..I wasn't too worried that I'd be on his list to visit but friends kept close eye on house and kept calling..he was apprehended a few days later..needless to say I didn't sleep.

Didn't win at tv bingo, didn't even come close.

Kyle dropped n, set me up on iTunes so that I can add songs to the cd I'm doing of my trip to New Orleans and also the Sistah's Gathering, said he would be back tomorrow night to add the songs .. I told him had i known it would take so much work setting it up I'd left it as a silent movie. Lol

It's cold out there, weatherman said if it were a few degrees colder we could have snow.

Victoria Harbour, ON

What did the doctor think it was Mary..glad you are feeling better!

Baton Rouge, LA

Betty must have been a crazy to have threatened you.....

I know Kyle loved helping you as much as you will love the music ! Thinking about you a lot today and yesterday as I was going through a lot of information on Louisiana travel - Lafayette area. We probably won't stay over but plan to visit "Freshman Parent Day" 9/29 much as we did last year with the whole family to DSD1 in Natchitoches (which is much further) Lafayette can be a day trip though and that is what hubs wants to do. so no B&B for Me....

Many of the information for Lafayette is written in French. I can only decipher a bit.

Dr. said it could be upper respiratory infection or West nile virus. To diagnose West Nile Virus, they would send off a blood sample and the remedy would only be motrin so I opted not to pay for a blood sample.... LOL....

Glad I went though for the steriod shot, allergy meds, cough meds, nasal spray, and we'll see how that works.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

only Motrin? That sounds simple enough.............
Glad you're feeling better

Betty - it's wonderful that you have everyone around you watching over you - they're angels, for sure.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary, it was a night I was doing teen dance because one of the volunteers couldn't make it..towards end of evening a man in his late 30's came and wanted to come in, needless to say he was drunker than a skunk (do skunks drink?) told him it was a teen dance and he couldn't enter..got very angry, told me it wasn't a Pauze who would keep him out, started to push towards to door, asked him to leave, got riled up, told him I'd have to call the police, sat in a chair near me and said go ahead, public building and you cannot make me leave, so I did call police, they were there in no time, police asked him to leave, went through the 'it's a public building'. I asked him why he would want to go into a dance that held just young kids, told me he preferred to be in company of young kids..police then said he'd do better in jail for the night, that is when he said they would find my body in a ditch somewhere, police asked if that was a threat, said no, just telling you where they will find her one day... Hmm hadn't thought of those times in forever.

Mary, don't you think it would have been better to have your blood tested to know exactly what you are dealing with..you would be pointing the finger if it were me..lol
Told Suzanne you weren't well, said to say hi and hoped you were better. Ahhhh so many p,aces we didn't get to see..I'm sure you will see me back in your neck of the woods again.

That time of night, off to bed

Victoria Harbour, ON

I have no doubt that I'm not surrounded by earthly angels..they walk with me daily!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

((((((((((((Betty)))))))))))))))) hugs for everything - for the memory of that "person", your headaches, your generosity, your cold, your crafting, you being an Earthly Angel yourself, and 'oh so many things' that spell B E T T Y!!

Baton Rouge, LA

WOW Betty - what a night that was years ago but I could just see you standing your ground... short as you are and challenging the 30 yr old to protect the youngsters in the dance....you would stand 10 feet tall... I love you.....

Tell Suzanne I'm fine... So would love to see you both again in my backyard... LOTS more to see in Louisiana... these B&B's have quotes from folks in Australia, Canada, France... I suppose the French speaking area's love us.... Next * time you all come I'll plan a crawfish boil or oysters (FOR SUZANNE) will have to have red beans and rice for you my dear... it is truly a great place to live though... I'm a Florida girl and I ended up here...

Susan - since West Nile Virus is not a bacterial infection they can not treat withAntibiotics (that's what I'm being told). It is very dangerous for sick and elderly but so far I am not. I am healthy... so I'm MUCH Better now....

Betty I just dont' want to spend the $... Spend $85 today on what I got... not a penny more to know I had something they would treat with Motrin..... I'm saving all the pennies I can right now....you know...

HUGS
all,
Mary
