Always comes to money doesn't it Susan..
Well, going to call it a night, will clean craft room up a bit..will think that over because no sooner will I clean it that it will get dirty again lol
Darlene's project is quite time consuming..drats, guess it will be a xmas gift, likely take that long to finish it...
Mary, guess what came today, the beignet mix from Cafe du Monde..will wait for Thanksgiving and make some for breakfast!!!
Best/Worse/What did I learn today?chat with friends
wow - gas is not $1.22/litre, which is $4.75/gallon
Yes, always comes down to that...........
Yum ! Beignets ! I have a recipe...used to make them from scratch...but different than Cafe Du Monde....
It was a good week but I'm glad it's the weekend.
Got excited for a bit Betty thought "OUR" Dianne was coming to visit...
DSD found a lady who made her a quilt out of all her High School T Shirts (many of which she designed). It was $200.
We showed Dad while we were visiting and he insisted on giving me back an old Tshirt I gave him from a Radio Station I sold for... not sure I have enough shirts to make a quilt.
Is that what the Nike Swoosh square is for ?
I'll pop back in a bit... what do you all have planned for your weekend?
I am hoping to get into cleaning mode and tackle the bedroom now that the wood floor room is done...
Hugs
Mary
Morning,
Starting out with prayers for Norm and hugs for Barb!!!
Mary, there are lots of girls who do quilts with t-shirts..watched a video from Missouri Quilts showing how..will have to get the link and post it. Yes, the swash will be bordered and inset in the quilt. Fairly large box of beignet mix, just have to purchase the white sugar powder and READ the instructions to make sure I have all on hand..
What will you do Mary with your weekend off, mellow out seeing you've had a hard week?
Just the break of dawn and I'm up sewing, couldn't sleep, housework is done so that leaves sewing.
Waving to all..
Morning everyone! Those Beignets sound so good, I have never heard of them. Down here we have a fried dough, more like a tortilla dough, that is deep fried, then covered in powdered sugar or honey! They are called sopapilla's.
Here are some recipes I found for the beignet and the sopapilla's.
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/french-quarter-beignets-recipe/index.html
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/real-sopapillas/
Not doing much today, it is nice and cool, so I am taking it easy. Watching the hummers with my coffee on the porch!
Got to tell you LindaKay they are above being delicious..mouth watering!! maybe I should try a batch before Thanksgiving just to make sure of the recipe/cooking lol
Gorgeous day outside, should go out for awhile..been downstairs sewing up a storm..need another 10 block and at least the top will be done for Darlene..
Sush a mish mash, guess that is what crazy quilts look like though..had to do major change of pattern to include the wording Darlene wanted..even adding pockets
Was gabbing with mom, her birthday is Monday, same day as Mike's was..wants me to book the room in October, told her I'd take her out for a nice dinner..says she's been thinking of her mom a lot lately, her mom dies 4 months before I was born..she has difficulties even after 1/2 a century going to the grave sight..she's been wanting to put an arrangement on the tombstone so I said I'd go into Barrie before I head to the racetrack, purchase a wreath and then early tomorrow morning I'll drive to the gravesigh and set it on the grave..that will be her birthday pressie...I know, crazy/crazy b'day gift.
But a most thoughtful one Betty. And time doesn't matter. It's been 50 years since my Dad died and 25 since I lost my Mom and I still talk to them......
Thank you Barb..
Been thinking of you and Norm throughout the day, know prayers are coming your way!
Omg, young Noah came to my door at 12:30 and asked if he was able to work for me..told him to get the rake and rake out front..not much there but thought it might give him something to do..15 minutes later he came in and said he needed to go home for a bit..15 minutes back with peanut butter sandwhiches..worked for about 10 minutes, said he was thirsty so I gave him a pop..worked for a bit more and said his hour was up.. there went $10.00 lol
Turned the sewing machine off, going to go have a coffee then get dressed for my outing. Would have enjoyed just staying home but know Darlene needs support when with Mike's family..she invited Ann (which is wonderful) but if I was to say I'd stay home both likely would think maybe think it was because it just wasn't the 2 of us..feel sometimes I have to tread softly because emotions are so felt..
You're the glue, Betty..... they BOTH need you!
Had a fun day yesterday and today. Yesterday, some friends came (to pick up a set of mushrooms) and I went to lunch with them (Applebees), then we headed to a garden center. I left my purse in the car cause I was just POSITIVE I wouldn't be buying anything even if everything was 30% off.....well, should have had my purse with me cause of course, I found something I couldn't live without...sigh.... I got my 5th crape myrtle. See, it's the same one that I got for Bill in Gatlinburg and he planted by his barn. Well, I wanted to move it to the garden when I started planting and he said no....it was his... so I didn't move it. It has those lovely dark leaves and dark pink flowers. Well, they had one so it came home with me! Now to find just the perfect spot for it....
Today was our Pond Club picnic. Bertie took a mountain dew cake (chocolate) and I took stuffed celery. There was fabulous food. I'm stuffed. There was just the best casserole there. Can't wait to get the stuff to make it myself! It doesn't sound that great but I promise you it DID taste great!
Sauerkraut Potato Casserole
1-28 oz. can green beans (drained)
1-jar sauerkraut (drained)
1 onion (chopped)
Smoked sausage or polish sausage (sliced)
6-7 potatoes (sliced)
1 1/3 sticks butter
Mix the first 5 ingredients and pour in casserole dish. Dot with butter. Cover with foil and bake 2 hours.
Oh My Goodness was this yummy. Such a perfect Fallish dish!
Betty - glad to hear you and Ann are "getting along". Has Ann phoned you lately, or will this be the 1st time you've seen her since you've been calling and she hasn't responded?
Well, been to a friend's house & Bob & I pruned shrubs & trees, then we went to the landfill to dump them, and also the debris from our home - $50!!! They do it by weight and it costs....... if they just went by size of truck, it would be $15..... yikes I said, when I heard how much.........
Now, to house clearing/cleaning...... Bob's going to the dump again next week, so I may just clear some stuff out to take....... it would weigh less, cuz it's not shingles (they weigh alot apparently).
I have done literally nothing today and hate myself for it.
Hubs said I coughed all night long. SO lethargic.
Tried vitamins, eating protein, V8, sitting in the sun, etc.
UGH !
(((Mary))) Hope you feel better soon.
Susan...that's Cathy that hasn't been responding to Betty. Ann is the friend that lost her husband. (Well, Darlene did too, but Cathy isn't married)
Hope you have a good time Betty! Mary, have you gone back to the Dr. about that cough? That has been going on for far too long now! Susan, our dump charges by the pound too, but we just pile our stuff on the curb, and about every 2 months or so a big truck comes by and cleans it all up for free.
It is nice and cool here the past few days, only 73 right now. Doors are open, and I have a pot of chili simmering, and will be making a cast iron skillet full of cornbread to go with it!
Thank you Joyce & LK;
To date, been to a GP, allergist, pulmonist, a different GP, ENT Dr.... only thing I can think left to try, my chiropractor suggested one of those holistic type people, she is near Jean in Galvez...maybe she has heard of her....
HUGS
Mary
yeah, I know that Ann & Darlene both lost their DHs, but forgot the name of the person who wasn't responding to Betty. Forgot there was a third person..... oh ouch........
LK - lucky you to have this happen. As it is, we don't have that kind of service. We don't have curbs or sidewalks here - just streets outside our property - no grass. Some have flower berms in front, and some have their homes right up to the street - no curbs.
Evening all, not often I am off to bed this late..
Lovely evening out..buffet was great, met up with friends of Darlene's, Darlene's sister and BIL, just wonderful!
I broke even on my horse race betting so really was just my meal $45 so pleased with that..didn't go into the casino part of the complex, likely would have lost $$$.
Was able to purchase a tombstone wreath in fall colors at Michaels, bought extra vines to add to it so guess a trip to graveyard come a.m.
Just dozing off, will gab to all in the am
how lovely that your evening not only went well, but was "free" to boot!! (except for your meal, of course lol)
Tired today..... was drifting off on the couch this evening, and not feeling quite "right" so I went to bed and fell asleep. When I woke up I was woozy, and took awhile but I'm feeling better now. I'm sure I'll be able to sleep tonight. Think I'll take a bit of extra meds. I've been feeling a little "off" lately, and it's likely due to the stress. My friend from our church, Barb W, said she would be able to find work for me (cleaning houses and doing yard work) so we shall see.
btw - I figured out why I was "called upon" to buy Peter's motorhome. When I went to his place to make the first payment, I realized he was really living in a poor home. Since his wife passed, in May, I'm sure he's not "up" to keeping his home up, but it is rather poor, and I'm sure he could use the $$ more than I. He lives in the main floor, and his daughter & SIL live upstairs. His GD and her fiance (I just found out she's engaged, and I got to meet him - they're getting married July 2013 in our church!) live in the basement. I'm sure Peter could use the $$ and they'll need $$ for the wedding too, of course.
Interesting isn't it, how things can be put into perspective.
Morning all, absolutely gorgeous day out there..have the fireplace on just to take off the morning chill..
Thoughts/prayers for Norm and Barb..actually had a timmies/dutchie for Norm!!
Went and finished my mom's "birthday wish"put the floral on the tombstone..I'm sure she will feel better having it done as she has been talking about it for past several weeks.
Now it's back to sewing on Mike's quilt for the next few hours, still 8 blocks remaining..do want to spend some time in the gardens though..speaking of gardens might go cut myself a bouquet.
Susan, seems when we are most down we come across those who are suffering more and make us realize just how blessed we are. I'm sure you and he are helping each other out..stress sure can do a number on you..with your losing your job, the big push for home repairs, trying to help out others, shock to the system for sure.
Mary/Mary get yourself to the doctor..you speak of me not looking after myself and here you are taking answers from a few doctors and not giving them the what for ..you need further tests. Darlene's sister Sue who I was out with last night has allergies, cough etc..had an air expert come in..seems a few years ago basement had mold, they had foundation repaired, cleaned mold..but did you know mold can migrate, I did t, so her recent illness is due to the mold..she is presently steaming wach room, washing everything down with tsp as the swabs came back with high percentage of contaminants..
Had news last night that a friend Sheila who had cancer and had removal of a breast was in the hospital for reconstructive surgery..Gary heard code blue and here they were fighting for her life...seems a doctor nicked a blood vessel..they had to open her and do major clean-up..as she was coming out of it, they had her sign some kind of form..imagine..they kept her overnight, says she is in a tremendous amount of pain..Darlene will drive over to see her today..what an ordeal
What are you all up to today?
Betty, I like the red with the table runner ! !

So good to see you Thunder...Welcome back.
Glad to hear you had a good night Betty!
So sorry to hear about your friend, and praying she will make a full recovery!
Nice to have you back Thunder!
Susan, HE does work in mysterious ways, and it sounds like you answered his prayers!
4 more blocks left to do, lunch, then I have to decide if I want to finish the quilt top or play in the garden some??? what to do, what to do? then, think wouldn't it be nice to put my head down and have a little nap..so many things in one days equasion right?
LindaKay, with cooler temps are you tempted to go play in the garden as well?
Not much of the gardens left, after the heat we have had. I need to go buy some mulch, and get it spread out, but that is about it. I am leaving what few angel trumpets I have left, hoping I get a few late blooms, if not, I will be cutting them to root for next year!
They are not Perrenials then LindaKay? You are so lucky to be able to grow them..what beauties they are. What have you planted that will bloom over the winter?
Ann had hibiscus in bloom..loved walking her pathway last night. Put hibiscus on my list for next year.
Greg/Mel just dropped in, did the Terry Fox run for cancer with the boys..boys went off to do other things so we had a nice chat..Mel was feeling nauseated (she ran) so home they went.
We talked about Thanksgiving and Christmas plans..they are thinking of going all 4 of them to the Dominican, trying to see what is available. We talked of possible Xmas gifts for the boys, Kyle it's his snowmobile pass, Noah, he just bought a new snowboard so just went on line and bought a horseshoe valley resort pass for him..now it's just Jeff's boys.
Betty, I thought you were bringing the boys up the weekend of the 28th & 29th.
No, it's this weekend coming, 22nd/23rd , weekend after is Meaford Applefest, then our Thanksgiving..
Does anyone have a n army/ navy store near them?
Welcome back, Thunder! You've been sorely missed!
Betty - sorry to hear your friend has had such an experience at the hospital......... it's not the first time (won't be the last either) that a surgeon's "mis-step" caused more anguish...... I'll pray that she gets through this well...
Yes, we have an Army/Navy Store that we go to - why?
Yes, LK - HE does move in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform....... I'm really happy that HE put me in the path to help Peter. It's only temporarily going to be awkward financially for us, but we always persevere..... Y'know that saying,... HE only gives us what he trusts we can handle.
Quilt won out..top is finished..what a relief that is, I'll be tying it because of weight so something likely I'll take to work, set on the board room table and finish.
Susan, was looking for bunny boots, warmest you can find..Greg mentioned he was searching for them so thought it might be a xmas gift..more likely found in USA though.
I've put in quite a day, late night last night as well so it's treat time to dish of ice cream then bed'y byes
bunny boots, eh? hmmmm will check and see, tomorrow. I have a nightie to get for a swap too - might be just the place...
Angels trumpets, will come back in warmer climates, if it does not get too cold, but most of us that grow them, cut the stalks into about 1 foot segments, place them in moist soil, or water to root for next year. Some will leave them in the ground, and mulch them really good, but since all mine are in pots, I cut them back, and root the pieces.
I wish I had winter blooms!
My Datura (Angel Trumpets) self-seed, and come back for two years, then they disappear.
I've got some more seeds, so hope I can plant some in the house, for planting outside. Otherwise, all I need to do is throw the seeds down, and they sprout all by themselves. They seem to like the heat of the southern exposure.
Interesting..I have to visit the nurseries in my area for Joyce and Deejay so will check about the datura..
Thinking of Suse, anybody see her on any of the threads??
Betty, keep in mind that datura, and brugmansia are related, but two different plants. I grow the Brugmansia/angel trumpet, and Susan had the datura's/devil trumpet. Both of them have beautiful flowers, that smell so nice!
Morning..
Lovely day outside,
Left early this morning, hit Walmart and picked up red embroidery floss for the memory quilt..tooo thick to quilt so I'll tie it, called mom it's her birthday, then Darlene to say I was thinking of her as it was Mike's birthday..guess all my 'to do's have now been done. Suzanne bought fabric for 2 rag quilts for her grandaughters to make for Christmas, I brough in my cutting board/rotary cutter and will cut them into squares for her but not until Paul leaves after his 10:30 appt. lol
That ought to fill in my work day.
On my way home LindaKay am going to stop at the nursery and check out some plants/seeds/bulbs. then likely tomorrow at lunch will go to the big Garden Gallery off the highway and see what they have.
Need some red color in my gardens
so what are you all doing??
Betty, if you want red, have you considered caladium's? They don't have flowers, but they leaves are beautiful, also coleus comes in many bright colors.
If your thinking that the angel trumpets will give you red blooms, stop looking now. Angel blooms have white, yellow, orange and pink blooms. Some of the pinks will get dark, but no true red blooms.
Google image search for caladiums..

Ohhh they are gorgeous..eyecatching reds..
thanks LindaKay
Have you beenspeaking with your dad?
Yes, I speak with him every Sunday on Skype. He is doing pretty good, he is complaining of the sores on his toes hurting. he goes to the Dr. on Oct 4th, and we should know more then?
He still does not know that I am coming to Michigan, so it will be a nice surprise when I show up!
He will be thrilled..will he be well enough do you think to come along with you?? Your DH is not travelling north with you is he?
LindaKay...have a look at this Brug...Brugmansia sanguinea
