Thanks for the new room Betty, sure hope that headache goes away soon. Are ou taking your blood pressure meds?

Baton Rouge, LA

Katie - so glad you are doing well !

Both girls in college have a staph infection.... my friend who cleans my house said it must have come from my house ? surely they didn't get infected here... ? Debbie or anyone have any thoughts ?

Hugs to all
Mary

What kind of staph infection?

Did they say where it is or such? My son gets them from scratching mosquito bits and such. AND....the first year of college, my poor DD Jeanna caught a massive
infection from the showers! She ended up with "ring worm" (which really isn't a worm) on her face. NOW....incase you do not know this ring worm, jock itch, athletes foot are ALL the same thing...and are transferred very easily in tight living quarters. Even drying your feet off....and then rubbing your face not thinking, can transmit the fungus.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Debbie;

DSD19 got one first...a week ago in the "Bikini area".... she said it was a huge bump and hurt like the dickens...

i told Hubs it might be a boil...

Now DSD18 in Lafayette says she has the same thing in the same place. Maybe they shared a razor?

But my friend is thinking it is in my house ? They both visited on seperate weekends but I would hope not in my house. Hubs cleaned their bathroom when they moved out but perhaps did not disinfect it ?

I am familiar with Ringworm... had it myself but I don't think that is what it is...

But perhaps I just need to send them both some lysol and germex....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sure hope it clears up for them, sounds like a painful area to have a sore!

Lyndonville, NY

Definitely can be from razors, or a little nick that just got a germ. That area is so "open" to anything when visiting ANY restroom/shower/pool. Are they on antibiotics?

Baton Rouge, LA

well they have both been to the college clinics.... DSD19 had hers lanced...

I just don't believe it's something at my house.... like my friend insinuated....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I don't think it is from your house either Mary. It must have come from the dorms!

Morning everyone! Coffee is ready!

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, that stuff is passed by touch, by towels/bedding used in common, and I do NOT think it is from your house. HOWEVER, if they had this infection when they were home...it could be now. I would just wash all towels in hot water, and a touch of bleach if you can. Same with the girls bedding.

Linda, I am on my way....I need coffee.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

OK, see you in a bit!

Debbie, are you going to come to Frankenmuth? Would love to meet you!

Lyndonville, NY

I can't this time Linda, too much going on and after last trip I am concerned leaving my son in charge. Chaos around here more often than not with
him and I don't want to take a chance after what happened last time.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I understand, maybe next time???

Lyndonville, NY

I sure hope so. We really are concentrating on selling the house and going to a new area. Would probably be beneficial to DS also to get him
away from this town.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sometimes that is better for everyone, to get to a better location!
Hey everyone, I got a message from Crissy, she is doing OK, she has been sick, but working two job 6 days a week, and is in her new apartment. Still getting things unpacked, but doing OK! She said to say hello to everyone!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the update on Crissy LK.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Thanks for letting us know how Crissy is!! I miss her......

Debbie - good luck on selling the house. I'm sure the move will be beneficial. Sorry you & LindaKay can't meet up this time.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good Morning, Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Mary...Staph can come from ANYWHERE. GS scraped his hand on his locker...Staph infection...we carry staph germs in and on our bodies and boils are staph infections...staph is the most opportunistic infection out there...an itch, a bug bite, a scratch...all prime entry points. If you are concerned about it in your home...Lysol liquid in the wash and Lysol spray for the rest....OH, and the most common place to pick up a Staph infection? Hospitals and Nursing Homes, homes and telephones according to a NIH study. There is really no place that is staph free unless that place is disinfected daily, along with any inhabitants.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Where is Betty today?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Here's another place, Jean - common cubicles where there are 24-hour workers - they "share" the cubicles, and no one has the same one each shift. So, when you come into work you need to wipe down the computer, keyboard, and phone. You never know Who has been using them since you were last there.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I hope Betty's headache is doing better - perhaps she's resting?!

Lyndonville, NY

We just saw a program "medical examiner" or such....and a boy was mysteriously very ill. A football player. Then his brother got sick. Turned out....half
of the boys football team had MRSA, and it was from the locker room....getting scratched or such as Jean had said. And it spread. I do believe the one brother passed away it was so so bad. BUT MRSA and staph are the same thing.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

omygoodness "passed away" from MRSA/staph? Why didn't they catch it sooner, and is it really that deadly?!?!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Yup....the other part of the NIH article stated that the most common carrier of Staph is the human being...on your skin, under your nails...on your dog, your razor...etc Here is an interesting article...it includes info on MRSA, the methicillin resistant Staph...and the incubation period...

http://www.cbsd.org/schools/holicong/Documents/MRSA%20fact%20sheet.pdf

Lyndonville, NY

Yes Susan it can be that deadly. When my Mom worked at the nursing home, they closed all visitation due to an outbreak. Hospitals do the same thing and put people in quarantine.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

http://suite101.com/article/what-is-esbl-a132627

This is the infection my mom contracted in the hospital following surgery. The hospital didn't notify the rehab center she had it until we almost lost her. This is what is responsible for her going from 91 yr old semi active person to a totally bedridden 93 yo who can do nothing for herself. Scary to think that is what we have to think about when we are hospitalized!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Scanned through posts..omg, not good at all, don't remember hearing much about staph infection, hmmm.

Head still of, been sitting in the 2nd conference room with all my sewing, just getting up a few times here and there..

Was an early night last night, hopefully I can stay up beyond 7pm tonight..

waving to all..prayers for those in need...

Lyndonville, NY

You taking your blood pressure meds? Time for your visiting nurse to visit miss!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Yikes on ESBL, and MRSA............. !!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, have you thought about what our Christmas project is going to be this year?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Funny thing I heard at the Dr.'s office the other day. I was standing in line to check in for lab work. There was a young lady, (probably early 20's) sitting with her Mother, and as they were listening to a cooking segment on the TV, the young girls said, "Oh, that sounds so good, but I don't think I can do that, it needs ground beef". Her Mother looks at her, as did all the waiting room people, and said, what are you talking about, we eat ground beef all the time. You eat meatloaf don't you? The young girl said yes, but that is with hamburger. When she was told that Ground beef and hamburger are one in the same, everyone laughed so hard.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

LOL she really also needs to know that steak is from the same animal too, apparently LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hubby asked if she was blonde??? LOL! Nope, not blonde.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Scary that she may one day be making decisions for her Mother...although I have read recipes that call for "hamburger meat" ???

Lyndonville, NY

You know what is confusing, in that girls defense. They have them labeled ground beef, ground round, ground sirloin. AND although we know it is "hamburg" the
different labels are confusing until you are older and do shopping on your own. My DD (the child of course) had the same thing. Went to the fresh market and they asked which one she wanted (sirloin, round?) she said I just want hamburger. LOL Yes, that one is blonde like her mother! lol

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

When my troupe left home, I gave them one piece of advice....if you don't know....ASK. My son called one day and said he was having a BBQ and wanted to know what kind of ground meat to use...he said the butcher told him the only one to use was Ground Sirloin and wanted to know if that was right...told him i was sure the butcher wanted him to use Gr sirloin as that was the most expensive...but also the leanest....he went for the ground beef.....grin

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

My dear friends, I'm sorry to have to ask again but could you please say some prayers for my Norm? His melanoma has come back for third time and this time it is on his windpipe. We will be meeting with his oncologist next week to make our plans and your prayers have always helped us through. I'm praying that God is good and will hear.....Thank you, Love, Barb

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Never be sorry for asking for help Barb...Good thoughts and prayers for you both. And great big warm hugs also.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear that Barb, of course we will say prayers for you both!

Lyndonville, NY

((((Barb & Norm))))) Praying for your dear sweet man to regain his good health and the "cure" an easy one.

Hugs to you both
Debbie
