She's about to... 67... Fall is almost here!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

New room ladies! Come and tell us what is still blooming. Is anyone wintersowing anything?

Aster flower
September Birth Flower
Aster flowers provide a beautiful addition to a fall flower garden. When so many other flowers end of their growing season, asters continue to thrive and provide brilliant color and scent to an otherwise sad landscape. Also known as starworts, frost flowers or Michaelmas daisies, the name aster is derived from the word of Greek meaning “star”.
Asters are an easy-to-grow perennial that can grow well in average soil, but they need full sun. A majority of the aster plants are perennials. Some of them are annuals and biennials. They are one of the people’s favorite choice for the flower arrangements in fall and winter. Asters can grow in all hardiness zones. Plants of this genus are native to temperate areas of the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Aster is closely related to the chrysanthemum. The flowers resemble those of the daisy, they consist of a central disc surrounded by numerous rays.

Hi Linda, Ray has had his 10th Radiation treatment and still hurts all the time. My eyes are still watering even after the 3rd corrective procedure. Maybe not quite as bad. Now for my Martian Toes. I had 3 hammer toes that were curving under my big toe, and a very bad big toe nail. A portion of bone was cut from the 3 toes and a pin (looks like a nail) was inserted into each toe holding them in place to heal. The big toe nail was removed. I'm still having to keep the medical shoe on at all times (even to sleep) and not supposed to walk more than necessary and never putting my toes down.
Do hope you're having a great day, and really wish your day was being spent here with me.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sure wish I could be there to help you! It sure does sound painful! Now make sure you listen to the Dr. and stay off that foot!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks Linda, but that is so hard to do. Took me almost a week to get to the puter because the foot had to be on pillows most all time. (I'm cheating now)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like you need a laptop or an Ipad!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I agree! I would be lost without my lap top. Can't see well enough to use an ipad, tho. Faye your brugs are gorgeous. I love the asters, mine have been blooming inspite of the heat.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

DUH! Why didn't I think of that? I do have a Laptop and never thought of using it...see, I'm cheating again. Have to go to have stitches taken out of my toes today, boy am I chicken.
Debra and anyone, if you want cuttings from my "Angels" just let me know. I love sharing.

Hello everyone.. I lost you for a while! Just found the thread. It sounds like several of you have been through quite a bit in my absense.... auto accidents, surgeries, radiation therapy... gee.... lose a threa, miss a lot. Good everyone seems to be on the upside of mending.

Still in drought conditions here. I only had one tree on my property and now, no tree. My father and I cut it down last week.... dead trees are very difficult to cut! It was not a very big tree and I have no idea what kind it was.... it just grew there where I had planted a nandinia.... it bloomet teeny tiny white flowers in spring and the leaves turned red in the fall... thick leaves.... I will miss it.

Something is killing my lavender plants.... two are half dead right now... I am hoping to save the other two. I can't do without my lavender!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Update on Ray! Radiation has started making him sick now and the Oncologist said that with each treatment, he would feel worse. He has 13 more treatments then wait 4 weeks, then a CT Scan, then surgery. He is so good, breaks my heart to see him hurt so bad. Please keep him in your prayers
Faye

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

How is your Sister doing?

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Hello all. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks since I've been able to work in my yard. Prior to that I spent hours each day weeding & planting. Still cannot do yard work but can you imagine how bad my flower beds look? Even the newest where I put down pea gravel is full of milk weed and grasses. boy do I have "Cabin Fever" I wanna work, this resting is driving me crazier.
Ray is hurting bad all the time now but he has been so good doing everything in the house that I haven't been able to do. The Radiation is burning his back now and is also making him sick. I just love him so much, it breaks my heart to see him suffer so much.
The pins will be taken out of my toes tomorrow, then what, I don't know.

Nita, what is this beauty? You gave it to me at the RU Fall of 2011.
Love to all
Faye

Faye, so sorry to hear about Ray hurting so bad! How many more treatments for him? Glad to hear you get your pins out tomorrow! That will be some relief! Sending lots of prayers and (((((((((((HUGS))))))))))) to you both!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Thank you LK. Ray still has 10 more treatments.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh poor Ray! Dearest Faye, Your gardens will be fine without your tending, they want you and Ray to be healthy, so concetrate on that. I am wanting to now what that beauty is also.
LK, Can you please call me at worK tommorrow before 4 pm?
Prayers for you both, Faye.
Prayers for my sister as well, we get results of the test she took today to see if tumors are shrinking on Friday. I pick her up on Sat nite to bring her here on Sunday. She has metel taste in her mouth, nuerapathy in her feet, constant pain on her lungs, and the chemo makes her sick on day three., what else can she do but be hopeful it is all worth it, right?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debra, I will call you today!

My friend Katie went through chemo, she had that same metal taste as well, not much you can do about that. But she found out that what made her sick and sore was the shot she had to get the day after her chemo treatment, and was told to take a claritin to help with the pain. It did help, not completely, but it did help!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Debra, my heart goes out to both you and your Sister. Ray is not my first experience with Cancer. Sister, Brother and now another Sister. God help us all, giving us the strength and courage we need to get through this horrible disease. Debra, this is something I have to remind myself of daily," If God takes us to it, He will take us through it". And I cry as I type!
Love to all
Faye

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So sorry to hear that Faye, sending lots of prayers to all of them!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Faye that plant is a San Miguel Chirita. Someone on DG gave me a piece of that years ago and it has made the rounds!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks Nita, I love it.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Neener, what is it? I mean what species?
Faye, I know what you feel and I the same, having hospiced several family members already, I never expected it might happen to my sister.. in fact, we had planned on growing old together and living with each other as our aunt effie and grandma sue did in their twilight years. We find out tommorrow whether we have good news or bad news, she told me that if it is bad news we will just keep on keeping on, which , like a little bantum chick, she is a fighter.
Linda, thank you for calling me, it was so good to hear your voice. I am so excited to get the things to you I want you to have.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Another one from you Nita, name please if you have it. It's a growing beauty.
Love & hugs

Morning everyone, wanted to share my office view with you all...my roses thru this drought and heat have performed amazingly. Now it has cooled off a little and we have had some rains everything is jumping back fast, even have a few daylilies blooming. No reblooming iris tho.

dahtsu your gardens and plants are so beautiful it must be really hard not to get out there but hold back until they say it is ok, cause it might take longer if you hurt something.

Hope everyone has had good news with everything that is going all. My heart breaks for you all and holds lots of hope and good thoughts for you all for sure.

Hey Stranger, where ya been! Love that rose, it is so pretty!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Thanks Linda Kay, that rose is a kmart wonder, least that is what I call it...rofl. I just really love it and it grows and grows. It is on the west side of the house and during the drought and 100+ days all summer long I was so afraid it would die on me but it is just doing marvelous... ;) Survives our below 0 winters and above 100 summers, not a lick of shade over there either. Heck it might even be able to survive a Del Rio summer who knows.

I should of taken a pic when it was at it's peak, hind sight and all that....

We got down in the 30's the other night and then back up to 90, gonna have to start dragging those tropicals in. I have one brug with blooms starting but none of them are as beautiful as those you all have posted for sure. Thinking about downsizing on the tropical plants, I seem to have less and less time. Keep thinking this is a bad time to do that cause surely in the next few years I can retire.... rofl rofl..;)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Funny how some can take all kinds of weather, and others are so timid and fragile!
Take care, and don't work too hard!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

okay I am jealous. My carriibia just can't get it's groove on this fall..yes I am awake.. this 60 yr old english ivy that has insulated thenorth side f the house is coming down, I am so sad.. it blooms all thru the year..third pic.. I am thinning these out.. beardstounge or obedient plant..
they grow whereever I have put them, here, in eskridge, arkansas, my sons place, and my two sis in laws places. anyone want any?
Sending this castor to someone, it has pink blooms.. just cut the top off for winter and let it grow out again..someone look up peacock gingers, I need to find homes for them.. here they are right now....

Hi all, so glad to see so many posting again. Digger, where have you been? Don't you know when you hide your friends look for you? so glad you found me.
This has been a very hard year for Ray and me. He has been in the Hospital so many times and hurting and sick in-between. Today & Mon., & Tues. he will get his Radiation treatment directed on the tumor instead of the larger space usually done. Ray asked why that wasn't done from the beginning (25 treatments ago) and he was told that if the Radiation had been focused only on the tumor, he couldn't have stood it. His back is burned and probably will be really bad after these last 3 treatments.
Still not able to do anything in the yard but am in a sneaker shoes now.
Love the Rose, and all your blooms Debra. Thanks all for the plant ID. and for the links to check out plants.
Big hugs everyone.
It will soon be time for the RU and I'm about to panic, health may get in the way!
