Wow talk about scary. Just walked out to the mailbox and on the way heard this horrible thud. Neighbor 2 doors, down had a big tree just tilt over and come down. Luckily it missed their car and the house. Yeap, that is what happens with the soggy ground, more rain and a gentle breeze like we have now. Funny I came in to post and saw your post Jean.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about all the storm damage! Looks so scary on TV, I can't imagine what it is like in person!

Afternoon everyone, taking a break to say hello, and let you all know I am having so much with with the kids! I will post pictures when I can!

Victoria Harbour, ON

wow, here they are telling us because we've had so little rain to go out and water the trees on our properties and that of the municipality if there are some otherwise they may not survive the winter..now yours are just coming out of the ground..be careful walking..must have given you quite a jolt hearing it fall Marion.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Waving LindaKay...

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Jean & Marion - you were meant to post those........... yikes on the tree toppling!!!!!!

Taking a break also, while I call my cell provider............... very minimal service as the internal antenna is def broken........... still waiting for my new phone to replace it. On the landline phone now, and she's put me on hold to see what they can do to help in the meantime.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Glad it missed their home and car...but even happier it missed You and them Marion. ya just never know with trees. Most of the ones that come down are ones that were neglected in the drought. We removed 26 trees from our lot when we first moved here. Got lots of grief from the neighbors, but some of them were diseased and some were gum trees and small pines growing through the live oak canopy...and some were just flat growing too close to the house...like three 40 foot sycamores planted about 15 feet from the roof line...the only one that made me sad was the live oak at the front of the property by the driveway....when they tunneled to put in underground cables, they cut through some of its' roots so it was leaning toward the house and was over 60 ft tall...it was scary watching them take it out.

When we were so thoroughly in the middle of the drought, neighbor laughed at me cuz I put the hose on the trees....he has lost 6 oaks and pines over the past few years and had another one fall Wednesday....fortunately it didn't hit his house. But our two huge pines, pin oak, live oak and pecan trees are still flapping in the breeze....knock wood....grin

LK Glad you are having fun with the Grands...

Susan, hope the phone gets straightened out soon. What a headache.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Fido just gave me 100 extra minutes for the next month (as soon as I activate my new phone)
She also said that phones don't last long - she had one "die" after 6 months. Planned Obsolescence I call it.......
It means you need to purchase a phone to replace your broken one.............. siiiigh

Tired tonight, while head is nodding think I'll head off to bed..came across this prayer..posted many years ago but for the life of me can't remember who!!

Imagine most of you have read it but I'll post anyway..

(A cute but oh so true email I got this morning says it all)

Dear Lord,

Every single evening
As I'm lying here in bed,
This tiny little Prayer
Keeps running through my head:

God bless all my family
Wherever they may be,
Keep them warm and safe from harm
For they're so close to me.

And God, there is one more thing
I wish that you could do;
Hope you don't mind me asking,
Please bless my computer, too.

Now I know that it's unusual
To Bless a motherboard,
But listen just a second
While I explain it to you, Lord.

You see, that little metal box
Holds more than odds and ends;
Inside those small compartments
Rest so many of my DG friends.

I know so much about them
By the kindness that they give,
And this little scrap of metal
Takes me in to where they live.

By faith is how I know them
Much the same as you.
We share in what life brings us
And from that our friendships grew.

Please take an extra minute
From your duties up above,
To bless those in my address book
That's filled with so much love.

Wherever else this prayer may reach
To each and every friend,
Bless each d-mail/e-mail inbox
And each person who hits 'send'.

When you update your Heavenly list
On your own Great CD-ROM,
Bless everyone who says this prayer
Sent up up to God.com

God bless you all and keep you safe!

Jumping for joy for you Judy, know how much you love woodworking..what will your first project be?

Baton Rouge, LA

JUDY! I'm SO Excited for you ! You are getting a SPACE SHIP ! YAY!

Victoria Harbour, ON

MARY, Space ship, so laughing..Judy what brand is it?

Mary how was your neck of the woods this mornimg when daylight came!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

okay - it's a sewing machine .......... of some type.......... ?!?!?!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Scroll saw

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

OH of course............ DUH on me!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Bob saw it, and he knew right away, of course LOL

Baton Rouge, LA

AH! So let down... Hoped Judy was getting a Space Ship and could come pick us all up and bring us to the next gathering ! Oh well... maybe next time.... LOL....

Oh Betty ... Got to the office right after 8:30am... Witchy poo was NOT there... on vacation. HER BOSS... 2 hours late....GENERAL MANAGER... 2 hours late... so funny.....

I got home for lunch around 1pm. started cleaning the yard and couldn't stop...

I'm going in again tomorrow. Hubs says we'll try to leave sometime tomorrow.... to take the Model A Engine to Crestview Florida to a guy who works on them...and visit with my Dad. DS20 will be home with Belle and DSD19 is coming home for the weekend. Who knows what party will be "happening" here....Betty you should come supervise... or again... maybe not... LOL....

Question: I'm learning .... there are things I have learned from my Parents that seem to "not apply" anymore..

Dad taught me to balance my check book when I was 16 and I do this religiously EVERY month. Hubs NEVER does this !

I (AGAIN) tried to teach this to DS20 tonight. Was a few "choice" words from both of us... I tried to break it down to explain to him why he should do this.

Just thinking....

So who does this ?

HUGS
Mary

Verona, ON

Me, me, me Mary! Actually I quite enjoy balancing my cheque book. Especially when there is money in the account. Hugs right back at ya Mary.

Diesel graduated to his big boy collar tonight. Oh my he is going to be a big boy. lol

Nice piece of equipment Judy. Was that Steve's idea of a romantic present for you? Would be Santa Warren's once he bought me 2 25lb turkeys - it was when I was recouping from my knee replacement. Oh ya once he bought 18 cases of water as a special gift. Gotta love him!!!!

Very windy here tonight - a few white caps on the lake. That is a big deal here.

Mary if it will make you feel any better I thought it was a space ship too. lol at us.

Time to close down for the night. Sweet dreams everyone!
Dianne

Baton Rouge, LA

OH Dianne ! LOL... YES doesn't EVERYONE love 18 cases of water ! Sounds like my DH! I actually love balancing the checkbook when it actually DOES balance !

OMG Diesel ! He is SO appropriately named ! FULL SPEED AHEAD ! Wonder if the white caps are a la Hurricane Isaac ?

So I suppose I'll be posting from Florida tomorrow night !

HUGS
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, talk about windy, several times during the night I wondered if my oak trees on front lawn would come down....don't remember them talking about the wind, wonder if Isaac is blowing this way? Dianne, can imagine the white caps with winds this strong.

Dianne you will no longer be taking him for a walk Diesel will be taking you..bet he is a strong one.

Believe Judy bought this beauty with her hard earned money..she'll be cutting treasures and making miniatures before long.

No balancing of check books here, just keep tabs on computer and hope I don't see red figures. Lol

Mary, heading my head down low, ahhhh now why would you not trust me to supervise?? Hmmm

Jean, take your time with the clean up, don't want you in bed with sore back.

Now see, today I could just close my eyes, no need to be up early and I just can't sleep..hate these cycles where little sleep is in the cards.Might as well get up..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm up early this morning too!!! I woke up at 4:30 and just could not go back to sleep - you know what I mean. You lay your head back down on the pillow and the mind starts. I tried for 30 more minutes and finally gave up. Sat and had coffee with Norm (he was up at 4!) and watched the news together. Now I'm here to see who else can't sleep. Seems I'm in great company. Most likely Dianne is up now too.
Loved the poem Betty.
Love the scroll saw Judy and I even knew what it was!!! I'm sure you will have fun with it.
And thanks for the chuckle about the space ship Mary. How are you doing down there? Hope you don't have tooooo much clean up to do. I think I would have just gone home if I went to work in that storm and everyone else was not there. Have a safe trip to FL.
Take it as easy as you can with your cleanup too Jean...
I'm like Betty and do my checkbook on line. I still look over the statement when it comes but I check on line every few days. Norm is notorious with the bank card and that way I can keep a rein on him......LOL
Congratualtions (I think) to Diesel on getting his big boy collar. Already???? He is going to be huge!!!!
Off to get some breakfast and then start laundry. I'm working on putting a BOM quilt top together today - fun, fun, and more fun......
Have a wonderful day everyone.....

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Mornin'. I should have gotten up and had coffee with you and Norm, Barb. For some odd reason I woke up at 4 and couldn't get back to sleep.....I am not an early morning person usually. Working on my laundry also then maybe I can be outside when the lawnman comes.

Verona, ON

Haven't been to bed yet. Just can't sleep - darn! Definitely having a nap later.

Sky is quitr overcast, how about you Betty, Thea, Debbie? Sure looks like rain and my joints tell me it is going to rain. Lots of thunder in the distance too. Oh joy! Not complaining after all some of you have been through this week. We are so lucky!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning (again). Lol. Looks as though we shall all have a days work in before most get up..

Dianne, looks much the same here although they aren't calling for rain..is heavy and bones aching. I found for awhile I was mixing my days and nights, remember the old adage that we would take the baby and rotate head to to 3 times and that would be the fix..maybe that is what we need! silly as it may be think it would be worth the try.

Marion, one thng about it you can have have your chores done before the heat of the day

Barb (wave to Norm) your commitment to your seeing projects overwhelm me. With working at hem I can virtually do anything I want all day as long as its inside to hear the telephone should it ring, have a few tote bags cut out and that throw I did for the cafe chair or table to finish so like you will grab a second coffee and try to get them done..Barn, found a wallet pattern I had ions ago, doesn't make sense as I read it , did a few before but they were done in class, do you find if you pre read instructions, other than notions required its confusing?? Might give that project a go over the weekend.. Family will all be busy this weekend, finally everyone in their rightful household...

missy is sitting here looking at me as though I should be doing something and am not...she sits on back deck most of the day and night..it did occur to me seeing as she and Sailor were best of friends that she is waiting for her to come home..poor thing!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

She could still be grieving Betty. I'll bet that is why she keeps getting on your quilting table. She knows Sailor will come looking for a treat there. Just thoughts running around in my head this morning......

Lyndonville, NY

I am dragging.....its a bit humid this morning!! The skies are bright blue and a nice breeze but just has humidity. Or i have a case of the vapors, anything is possible!

Had a nice night out with DH last night. My surprise was a trip to Red Lobster with "all you can eat" shrimp. I wasn't able to eat shell fish since being on blood thinners, so I sure made up for it last night. lol

Off to Rochester this morning I think. Have some errands that really need done and I have put off for two weeks.

Enjoy your day....stay safe

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, likely she is..always curled up to sleep near Sailor and would follow her around..animals do grieve as well..

Debbie, so nice to hear you and Paul getting out just the two of you..glad you are making an early start, with the long weekend it's bound to have heavy traffic..perhaps not like our cottage country..they were saying that Thursday now is replacing Friday..most working longer hours or taking holidays.

Not a call yet, knew today would be super quiet..I'd go out and cut grass if I knew I'd hear the telephone, but NOT!

Back to quilting

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, between the holiday and most schools starting on Tuesday, it is going to be busy out there. So yes leaving in a few and getting a head start. I have cooking to do for the party tomorrow too when I get back.

Enjoy your quilting.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Wow Debbie. I didn't realize how early my DD had actually started back to work until I saw school doesn't start until after Labor Day. She has had students for a month now.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Good Morning! I on the other hand have no trouble sleeping during the night. Of course, I give all the credit to melatonin and aceteminaphin pm. Once upon a time I had terrible problems sleeping. Would wake up and not get back to sleep until 15 minutes before time to get up!

Had my walk around the kingdom...sigh....everything is winding down, and now garden club is coming on Tuesday. We're supposed to have 4 days of rain starting today.n So guess I have a lot of stuff that I need to get finished before the rain starts.

Had a really yummy breakfast...I'll share, too! Scrambled farm fresh eggs with sauteed onions and green peppers (none for you Debbie) then cheddar cheese and halved sunsweet cherry tomatoes. Asiago cheese bread toast.....oh yum........

The runt died about 5:00 pm yesterday. Bill named her Misty while he was holding her. He said no one should die without a name. Big ole softy.....Bill will be burying her today. Must admit I had to cry some tears over that sweet tiny one...the other one is still not as active as her brothers and sister. She did eat a very little this morning, but I haven't seen Neeky nurse any of them today. Could be that her milk has already dried up. They don't even try anymore.

Ok, better get my butt in gear. Gotcha on the mushrooms Betty....glad to know you're going for the big bucks ones!!!! You're right...stems first, then caps. Did 23 stems yesterday. Takes a while to distress that many!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

You be careful out there Debbie, know you are a safe driver but got to watch the others who are rushing around...so muggy today, don't envy you cooking..make you Mil a special treat, got a box of laxatives, chocolate kind you can add to hers treat that way she will stay out of your way..I'm bad aren't I?? Wouldn't have the nerve to do it to my Mil so I'll encourage you Debbie..find out first though who is bringing what she likes then that's the treat to make so she doesn't know it was you. Lol. I'm going to go to hell for that thought...

Joyce, ahhh, they were all just too adorable, they just clung themselves for dear life when you handed me them..they looked so healthy..I would shed a tear as well, Bill has indeed a soft soul.

Gardens here are dying down again, now that I've been to your house and have a few ideas I want to revamp, transplant and add to mine..actually, Michelle up the road called at some point this week, im terrible listening to left messages, said her Noah had 10 hours to put in, volunteer hours and could I use him..should call now and see if he went somewhere else to use them up, maybe I can have him digging..

Big smile, Joyce, guess that means I'd best save my $$$, want no special deal, want to pay what others pay so d-mail me cost of a set of 3 so I'll know to put it aside and not spend it this weekend..with my spending spree this months I'm almost afraid to look in my activity allowance account..the good side of that Sept is tomorrow..new month, new allowance..good part of it will be to take all the boys away one weekend, the Meaford Applefest so that one is all but gone...ahhh that's life is it not?

Joyce, do you distress the day after pouring?? Who knows maybe I'll go get supplies when I finish work this afternoon, hmmm think I can eat three containers of Pringles this afternoon so I can have the container for stems.

If Dianne and I soon don't get some sleep during the night well have to borrow some of your drugs. Lol

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

The melatonin is over the counter herbal. Bertie got me started on it. She sleeps well, too. I get mine at Kroger or Walmart. Not pricey either!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

On the mushroom distressing, Betty, I do distress the day after. They have more portland cement than the troughs do. The troughs have to sit for 3 days before unmolding and distressing. Need to make another batch of troughs, too, as I sold my new "double" one and I want one for myself!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Joyce...... sorry to hear of missy's passing. That old softy Bill....... what a dear man, and what a hard thing to have happen. Two kitties in a few days....... Over the Rainbow Bridge, to be with our Lord.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

just found out my unemployment benefits have been cut off........... don't know why, but I'm "in queue/on hold" with Revenue Canada.............. scared they have cut me off..... I only worked for 2 months in the middle of my claim, which was supposed to be until February, and now extended for 2 months because of my temp working.........

Okay.......off phone - I have no benefits left. Apparently the "52 weeks" is no more, and only had 24 weeks, which have been paid out. I wish I knew what to do..... I try so hard, and it isn't enough........ please pray for me

(((Susan)))) so sorry about this...praying hard for you. I personally know how hard this is!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Me too Susan. Seems like you can't catch a break no matter how hard you try. I'm keeping you in my prayers.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry to hear you are in such a position Susan, definately sending prayers and some hugs..I know you are highly qualified in your field but taking some kind of employment even at Walmart would help the situation temporarily, are there such jobs available? it never lets up does it??

Paul just called, said to leave the office at 1:00.

???? I work from home Friday's remember. Lol

Told him as I'm home and not going anywhere I'd keep things rolling

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Susan, so sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed that things will work out to your benefit. I am sure a job is just around the corner for you.

There have been a great deal of emotional events going on lately....each of us have our own things going on, and sometimes, the added concern for our friends and their well being ties in with our own concerns....we may not think we are affected by these concerns, but the effects show up at night when our brains start trying to process the day. I have found when this happens, it makes sleep very evasive. One thing I learned when this happens, is to recount those things I am concerned about, and then offer them to the Good Lord for resolution. As the saying goes, give your thoughts, hopes and troubles to the Lord...He has the answers and the power to resolve them.

Hugs and good thoughts to you all.

Jean
