Mary - so truly sorry to hear about your loss............. also sorry I missed seeing it the first time around. Hugs and prayers for the family.......
Jeri - hope you DO get up to Calgary - we can have a great time. You should get to Kananaskis Country - check out this site:
http://www.kananaskis.com/canmore-kananaskis-visitor-information.htm
Kananaskis is only 3/4 of an hour from me......
What a few days this has been..............
Camping started badly, but got better (somehow our spot was pre-booked by us, but pre-booked by someone else?!?! Anyway, they were there first, so we got "something else" with no power, but the campground owners gave us the use of a 100' cord to plug in. Afterwards it was.......... interesting, but fine........I do love the country and the campground!!
Then, got home yesterday to find our water is being shut off for 4 days....... and we have to stockpile water for then...... for Everything! From Thursday to Sunday........
Today I found out my temp job is only going to last 3 more weeks.......... they are filling the position, but not with me - will find their own new employee (read: they don't want to pay the agency fee..........).
I wish I had more control over my life...............
At least I have my health, and my DH, and a roof over our heads........ that counts for something......

((((((((((((Mary))))))))))))))) ((((((((((((Betty)))))))))))))))
so glad you two met! Maybe next year in FL we meet?
Well, off to work in a bit....... cya later
With. 6 hour drive ahead of us we were up and out the door by 8 am, as both Suzanne and I had been to Graceland several times we had not included a visit but we were right across the street so there in a pull in you can take to take photo's from outside the gates..stopped, took a few photo's, Graceland off in a distance. I noticed at this time a few stragglers walking the pathways, at first I thought they were workers but not, seems for 1/2 hr before the tours start the open the gates and you can tour all the grounds and gravesite so in we went, said our goodbyes to Elvis
Arrived in New Orleans at 4pm..took the causeway in, believe it might be the worlds longest causeway..28 miles in length over Lake Ponchatrain
As we travelled down the little roadways, barely room for 2 cars I think Suzanne may have had reservations of being here..we arrived at our hotel, very French Quarter and quaint..our room view is spectacular, open the door and there is a souther garden and then pool area..so inviting!
Met up with ourMary (she's just too adorable) just up the street for supper, seafood restaurant on the Mississippi, so no soon did our bags get brought to the room were we off.
Within minutes of arriving and hugs/hugs from Mary were we chatting as long time friends do.
Never left the restaurant until 9 pm, Mary lives in Baton Rouge so long way home for her..got to say Mary I was touched that you travelled through New Orleans to give me a hug,,
Now off to Frenchmen Street, sat in several bars enjoying the blues..by 11 we were off to Bourbon Street, don't know we were so lucky to get hotel next block from it..but thankfully we did.
Unless you've done Bourbon Street you couldn't imagine the feel and excitement of the street..won't even try to describe it..
Well to say we enjoyed would be an under statement. Shaking my head, let's just say as we went from bar place to place we met up with friends from previous establishments..mostly the young group from Texas who thought we were one of them lol
I've photo's galore, not so sure I'll share (hanging my head) Fun time had by all
Walked back to the hotel to find two women (co workers) in the pool asking us to join them, said we would put on our bathing suits but they said they were in the pool with their clothes on . Why not join in the fun, in we went..guess I won't have to wash my outfit.
So to bed at 3:30am..morning has come too quickly..
Just getting out of bed to start our day, not sure how I feel about that, might be a bit black/Blue, sore bones but that is another story
Drats called to confirm boat tour only to be told she is not sure how I got tickets because they are not running today, already paid for them, said her computer is down, can't do anything. Grrr
Off for another fun filled day
I so want to respond to all your posts but Suzanne is at the door waiting patiently
Wow - sounds like you're having a fabulous time, Betty - Good For You!
No boat tour - that's strange...... how'd that happen? Hope you get your $$ back........
There's a Bourbon Street in West Edmonton Mall, but I'm SURE it's Nothing like the original one you've now been to!!
So, you're now a "Bar Hopper" lol Are you telling the family about this? LOL
Guess those women didn't have bathing suits? lol
Afternoon all, taking a few minutes to recoup, body took a beating last night.
They were doing repairs to the boat so cancelled trip out..we managed to do the Nachez..no nooner were underway that it started to storm..just clearing now. As for refund I'll have to deal with it when I get home.
Had beignets/coffee at Cafe Du Monde and I'm full, will have to be a late dinner!
Susan, Bourbon Street is an entire street, blocks and blocks of small establishments of every sort..sure I'll share with family, they know I'm not all there.
Well if I continue to sit I will ner get up
Plans are to do a graveyard tour, bit of shopping ang then supper.that ought to finish off today.
Tomorrow it's a plantation tour then start working ourselves towards home..slight detour to Pensacola Florida
I've been keeping up with travels....you know where to find a cold drink or a bathroom break! Bed still available for on the way back, too in case you girls have spent all your $$$!! :o)
I'm back in the room, Suzanne is doing boutiques but I is tired out so early night..
Will go back and do some reading
Katie, what a sweet talker you are. Lol!!
Sorry about your vehicle problems, you sure didn't need it..here is hoping there will be no delay due to sores..are they ulcers?
Drats Jean, would have been so wonderful to meet up with you as well..I was in awe meeting Mary!
Joyce, you will have enough on your plate with family gathering?
Did you have many taking photo's Saturday?
Judy, you have so much going on all the time, just like Debbie, not sure how you cope.
Susan, I can't believe you will back on the list of the unemployed..how disheartening.
Be back shortly
Betty - the West Edmonton Mall devotes an entire street to Bourbon Street (the mall has a skating rink, Olympic size swimming pool and 2 storey diving board), and you could take a week to go around in it.
Yes, I'll be unemployed AGAIN, but apparently the Oil & Gas industry is simply Gasping for Executive Assistants. We shall see........
Hot again today....... filled all our water containers, and as soon as we've had our morning showers tomorrow we'll have to fill up the bathtub so we can rinse our toilets (we can use the sewer, just can't have running water ......)
Going to be fun for 4 days........
STILL Have not caught up on sleep but I just did get the opportunity to look through the Goody Bag Betty Gifted me with and BOY AM I EXCITED !
If she lets me... I'll get a picture of bag and contents and brag a bit... but the they are just FABULOUS ! I feel so honored...
I kept telling Betty and Suzanne... NO WAY I'd let them drive all the way from CANADA so very close to me and not get a HUG...
Just wish I didnt have to work and could have partied with them all night... FUN FUN GALS they are...
I'll try to catch up soon. Miss you all... Hope Katie is doing well... Susan you'll bounce back I just know... (HUGS) Debbie hope the kiddos giving you a break... Judy don't work too hard my dear !
Jeri and Jean - wish you could have come with me !
And more hugs to everyone... Dianne, Shirley, LK, Barb, Thea, Joyce, Suse, Crissy, Liz and EVERYONE else...
Mary - so glad and happy you got to see and hug Betty & Suzanne
Of course I'll not only bounce back, but I'll pick myself up, dust myself off, and get on with life :-)
Betty, what did you do, that you are all sore? Hope you did not fall somehow?
Mary, sure glad you got to meet up with Betty, and give them hugs! Must have been so nice to meet them. Come on, show us what you got please?
Still busy here with the Grandson's, they are so active. I am making them teddy bears, and when I got them cut out, they ask for the scraps of material, so they could do some crafting. Well, they taped pieces to paper and made collages! I will post pictures tomorrow.
I gather that Betty's just stiff and sore from all the running around she did, bar hopping lol
Didn't help to get to sleep at 3:30 am, either LOL
You just never know what could happen or what you can see down there. An understatement is... It's a hoot!!! LOL!!! I've seen people that think they can party make complete fools out of themselves down there. I've lived in La. all of my life and I have never had a bad trip to N. O.
Mary, photo ok..hey gal I tried your "hurricane" lol. Sooo wish you could have partied bout I understood..with just getting back from Florida and family duties one can't always just take a day for play.
LindaKay,,don't you just love it when the kids want to be creative! Always enjoyed the grandsons coming over and sharing my craft interest, they grow up much too fast and all of a sudden it's kind of a girly thing, wasn't until someone told them it was. Love to see photo's of collages.
Jerri, NOLA is a one of a kind city..probably the place I most always was to return to.
Susan, that is a tremendous amount of work gathering water for everything..guess there in no good time to have repairs done to the city AND of course you will be fine..something always comes up but still a worry.
how is everyone else doing ok?
Suse, thanks for the invite..having quick coffee with you would be grand, not sure what time of day I'd be passing..will keep in touch as I travel
As for the my body, Omg and double Omg if I tell you all what happened you will not be happy and I'll get the what for big time. Time for another pain killer and try to get some sleep. Think people should have 2 vacations, one for the vacation and the other for resting. Lol
Gab in the morning
Something tells me someone was trying to table dance.....and fell off the table????
Bessie Lou...spill the beans, what did you do!!!
You almost had it right!!
The bar? Or a pole?
Table/chair/man about 25
Ya fell off a man? Oh sweet heavens....where is that picture!!!
Really upset i didn't go. I haven't fell off a man in years!
She was in a bar fight! LOL! Table chair/man...
Tell me more, tell me more!!! I have this visual of Betty dancing.............well enjoy, you only live once!!!
Waving to all..have a great day. We are expecting more rain...starting to get water logged.
OH BETTY BETTY BETTY I haven't fallen off a man in a long time either, and he was only 25!!! You Go Girl!!
NOW on that note, if you were dancing on a table and fell onto a chair, then a 25 year old man caught you, well you're just lucky! LOL LOL LOL
oh my........... BETTY!! Why oh why didn't you invite the young man to come visit you in ON? (or DID you........ hmmm!)
Apparently they aren't doing the excavation or shutting off of water just yet...... "in the future" they say, and "will give you 24 hours notice" they say....... Well, that's twice we've filled our bathtub up so we'd have water to flush..... times that by 183 or so homes, and the City is paying for a lot of extra water. I rather suspect that the workers have it in their contract that they won't work if the thermostat goes above a certain temp, and it's been 30 to 32c for the past few days. Very hot and the humidity goes up and down like a freakin' yo yo......
'suppose that's why it's "in the future" because they can't tell when the temp will drop enough for them to work, OR won't rain.......
Enjoying SO MUCH my gift from Betty....
The BAG ! OMG... SO many pockets... I didn't get a close look at dinner... just wanted to visit....but now I've had a good chance to look at it... I can't wait to use this bag.... I do see me using a lot for travel Betty...
Is it hand washable? I know I'll be using it for the Labor Day trip to Florida...can fit my book, camera, etc....
The hand made soap smells so good... I think I'll use it for a drawer scent for a while .... FOUR TYPES of seeds ! Correopsis, Lupins... ( I LOVE those lupines! and Mine didn't make it... so can't wait to plant !)...daisies I love... musk mallow... Love mallows... can't wait to plant these !
Also - beautiful stained glass... and cooler neck bands.... Hubs and I will definitely need these....possibly on Sunday....
Everyone is coming over to the house for the "Birthday" celebration. Hubs is 8/12 and I am 8/18. DS's 1/2 brother has come the last few years ...he is 8/9.
Hubs and I don't want to cook and really just want to buy some fried chicken but we'll see....maybe Popeyes?
((HUGS))
Mary
wow - what a beautiful bag, Mary! and just in time for your b-day on Wed!!
Oh Mary, that is so pretty, but Betty gave it to the wrong person, she was supposed to mail it here! LOL! She makes some lovely bags! And it will be so handy with your traveling too!
Speaking of which, where are you Betty? No post for today?
Oh NO LK ! So the right person for this bag ! (HUGS) LOL....
Susan Bday is 8/18 but it's alright to make it a "Month Long Celebration" LOL...
Yes - I'm looking forward to the post... hope they are going to make it to McGuires Irish Pub... WONDERFUL Steaks there...
Evening all, was in your neck of the woods Mary, we drove out to the Laura Plantation, enjoyed the tour..we're then going to go on swamp tour but torrential rain, couldn't even see the highway, so gave that thought up..started to head on I-10 for Pensacola..we were only going to spend the night, sit on the beach for most of the day but travelling in the heavy rain made is decide to take 59 and head north...Suzanne and I had so many laughs abut out trip, especially New Orleans that we drove, laughing like two stupid fools, outcome of the day, we are at Gadsden, Alabama, not too far from Tennessee...
I so enjoyed and laughed at what you guessed happened..
Need to unwind before I try to sleep so will post what happened!
Off for an evening out on the town , started atFrenchmen's Street as they said it was a lot more tranquil and majority of the better blues bands were there..as when I was with Mary for supper, not many had light cooler drinks so I had pop..
Gee whizzz the bands were great..did many of the establishments, again not drinking anything but pop then we made our way to Bourbon Street, did a few of bars ..passed a bar, younger crowd, wayyy younger but some our age, there on stage of a karaoke band was 4 men doing dance and singing to a modern song, their wives/girlfriends singing right along with them as well as about 60 others..the mc was fantastic in getting everyone going..we were at the door, looked so entertaining that when a group of youngsters asked us to come in, we did.
So far so good right??
Guess we were there a good 3 hours, this group of about 8 college students included us in their antics, well if you know me I'm game and so is Suzaane.
Three of men and 2 of the women took a special liking to us..one of the guys couldn't believe we could enjoy Bourbon Street as much as they.
You can't just sit there without ordering anything so not having wine coolers that have very little alcohol content I decided to try Mary's 'hurricane'. Lordy it was sooo tasty, only had the one but that was enough to get up dancing with the young ones..one young lady was celebrating her birthday, she kept wanting me to dance with the others, which I did..the more I danced the more the young ones (from Texas Limdakay) would come over tell g me how wonderful it was that I was so young at heart, they didn't believe their moms /grandparents would ever enjoy themselves such as I was doing..the more the evening went by, the rowdier these youngsters got, just enjoying themselves to the fullest, no problems of any kind, they were just singing, dancing and havi g plain old fun.
Bet you are shaking your heads wondering when I will tell you what happened, will do in a minute, just want you to know we were never in any danger, we were made to feel part of a group even though we were ancient. Lol
One of the men brought Suzanne and I a jello slush, nice of him..
They were up on stage, taking a turn with another group, entertaining and good singers..I got up to dance with the birthday girl when in a flash the young man thought I should be lifted up, before I could even guess what he was up to as he was dancing grabbed my lower legs pulled them up towards himself and off I went on my back, hit the floor, luckily Suzanne was able to shield my head as the table set itself sideways as well as the chair..he landed on me. it could have been worse!!!
He felt to badly, thought he was going to ..
So fanny/back where I landed pretty sore, could barely walk day after..last night I took 3 -222's to get me through the night,,cheek of my behind still mega sore
Believe me, this small incident did nothing to deter Suzanne and I to do a few other locations..thoroughly enjoyed..
Would I do it again with these nice young kids, yep..it was just a few drinks that made him not think
I know, now I'll get the what for right?
lol Betty - I won't be one to give you "what for" cuz you had fun, right? Life's too short to be moaning and bemoaning.
He was sorry, and you've not hit your head........... just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and move on - to the next bar and Jello slush lol Guess he thought you wouldn't go over as you did. Young girls are prepared for moving quikcly with the mood......... and he landed ON you? lol lucky you! lol But, as I said, you're good now, and it's not something you do everyday!
Glad your OK Betty, as you said, could have been worse. I won't give you the what for either, as you had such a good time! Oh, to be a fly on the wall to watch all your doing!
Betty, I know you know now but Hurricanes are LETHAL!!! Then a jello shot? OMG!!! The only thing you missed was Sex on the Beach and a Worm Bucket. You would still be comatose if you had!!! I am glad that you weren't seriously hurt but hitting the floor that hard would had been bad on one of the young ones. Take it easy!!! Try some sportscream it will really help to rub that on your sore spots. That story was almost as good as the guesses but I hurt myself last night reading them.
Love the teddy bears but don't you need to make some more for Dylan?
Oh, I have them, they are being sent home today! This is the last day I have the kids, and I will be taking them home this afternoon!
LOL Betty that's hilarious!! Glad you had a great time!
Jeri you are SSOOOOOOO Right!!!!!
Betty A jello slush is not a slush, it's the powder jello with vodka instead of water! And Hurricanes are filled with rum.
LK Drive careful, that is so cute!!!
There are a ton of hidden treasures in New Orleans, Betty....even the drinks carry a surprise....GRIN Glad you survived Bourbon Street....they even offer T-shirts that say "I survived Bourbon Street". Hope the rest of your trip is just as much fun, but easier on the body.
Laura Plantation is lovely....and only about 30-40 minutes from my house...just across the river.
LindaKay, I'll bet the boys really like the new truck. Those bears are so sweet.
Hope everyone is having a good day.
Thanks everyone! Yes, they love Grandma's new truck.
My grandson named my Sierra the BAT...Big A**Truck....grin
^_^ That is cute!
