Best/Worse/What did I learn today? chat with friends!
Yeah! I'm first!!
I'm here too! Thanks for the new room Betty. Sure hope you shake that cold soon!
Dianne, is warren home yet?
I'm here!!
If they've put him on a new pain patch, won't they be monitoring him for a bit to make sure it's "good"?
Plus, he's just starting to eat again, and getting his colour back (because of the pain patch?!). As it's a weekday, perhaps he'll be home tomorrow?! Sure hope so - always better to sleep in your own bed - get more rest that way.......
Good evening all, Been MIA trying to get life organize. Major fail! haha
Anyway, going to be gone for a few days...should be home Monday night. Not sure what my internet capabilities will be.
Will post if I can....but if you don't hear from me, just know I am making a dream come true!
Hugs to all, behave.....and stay well.
Debbie
behave.............. hmm well ya knooooo-ow there are two ways to behave - well, and Badly!! roflmao!!!!
Oh Debbie How Could you! I'm imagining ALL kinds of things going on... but know you will fill us in soon...
Waving to all... Susan maybe Bob did better than he realizes....
LK - you getting this cool weather too ?
Trilliums! Have NO Clue what those are... I suppose they don't grow down here...
Dianne... You write that check to the cleaning lady and tell yourself YOU are worth it... I'm glad you have her ... that's the last thing you need to have your mind on these days.... YES LOL... you can probably just hear Hubs and I sparring over gardening... I just sat him down with the Swap thread. He is thinking he can join me this time...
My only suggestion for Santa Warren is KFC Original recipe Chicken. Maybe I can mail you some ?
Betty - the Pool is too cold for me to swim in as of now... Hubs heated it for the Prom "After Party" crowd....but we will definitely heat it up for you when you come visit... no worries...
I'm headed to New Roads then Gonzales tomorrow, then Metairie Thursday. Friday taking off early (I HOPE) for the swap... 6 hour drive to Alabama.
I suppose only Jean knows how much I'll be hitting the roads LOL!
Hugs to all,
Mary
VERY Pretty Susan ! I'll probably not see them down here... will have to come visit you all.... (HUGS)
No cool weather here Mary, it was 97 today! It is 11:00pm, and it is still 80!
Today 97° | 68°
Thursday 99° | 70°
Friday 93° | 68°
Saturday 91° | 68°
Sunday 86° | 68°
Morning all, weather wise it may prove to be a sunshine day although winds high and temps cold, BUT no snow.
Mary, can't wait to hear all about the roundup..will get my map out and see where your adventure is taking you to! Remember how intimidated you were last and and now you anxious to get on the road. What plants will you be bringing to the swap and what are you looking for? Let's hope no problem you getting off early. 6 hrs ?? You will soon be able to take on a longer road trip..if each year you increase drive hours by 2, let's see, how many years would it take to tempt you to swap with my plants?
LindaKay 97, wow..when does humidity happens, just July/August and September. Are you felling better and how is Dylan doing?
Susan, I have wild roses on the side of my staircase..
Hacking, off to gargle
Enjoy your day..
Said prayers for Dianne,Warre Marti and all in need!
Morning Betty! Sorry your not feeling well. I am still stuffed up, and sneezing all the time, I have finally broke the fever. Dylan is doing good!
It is almost always humid here. Right now it is 69 with 81% humidity.
Mine is in my chest, fever doesn't seem as bad this morning, luckily I'm home!
Guess you adapt with the high humidity and get outdoor work done early mornings..
With us in the north, there is so much cleanup that it takes weeks to prepare for summer, with no snow imagine you there is no massive clean up?
It's amazing with furries how much dirt they bring in, loss of hair..yesterday with in and out and the rain floors need doing again! Seems like my mornings on a daily basis involves cleaning up..how can one person have so much housework?
Well, best I go check work e-mails and see what my day will bring..
Boy you are gonna be running in huge circles Mary. What is it that you do?
We do have a native trillium, Trillium ludovicianum,
La wakerobin http://www.wildflower.org/gallery/species.php?id_plant=trlu2 (found in the wild)
or this cultivated one called Toadshade
http://www.plantdelights.com/Trillium-ludovicianum-col-A2LA-030-Louisiana-Toadshade/productinfo/9278/
Where in Alabama is the swap?
We had our Earth Day celebration on Sunday. Baton Rouge has one of the largest events in the nation and has been celebrated every year since 1990. Mary. I meant to drop you a D-mail and got in a hurry and forgot...wanted to see if you were coming out Sunday...another missed chance to "meet and greet". 8-(
Good thoughts and wishes to you all
Jean
Good morning y'all!!!
Dang, Debbie could be doing a million different things to make dreams come true, she has so many of them! You Go Girl!!!!
G'morning everyone (it's actually noon, and I've been up 2 hours)
Good morning everyone, just typed and lost a long post. Dang. In short, all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm probably headed to Ca. by bus on Friday. Trying to get everything organized. A little stressed but i'll survive.
hugs, katie
(((Katie))) hope your stress lessens soon......
Katie, you will be less stressed once you have your new wheels. Much more relaxing taking the bus!
Ann Visited this afternoon, she just got over having the cold, told her perhaps she shouldn't stay but did anyway..omg she is full of poison ivy, hate to tell you where it all is! Lol. Not so laughing for her. I will roam the countryside in search of jewelweed when I go at 4:30 to take sailor for her nails..bit early for jewelweed but even if I found a plant or two it would do her good.
She was just leaving when Aline called..she had been in Myrtle Beach the last month and went over to Florida to pick up her dad, he spent the winter there..great for 98..found that he had bruises all over his arms and legs, arrived home, cleaned him up, new bandages, went to his sister's 95th birthday and no sooner arrived that the blood had seeped through and his shirt was covered with it. To the hospital he went..no platelets..not doing well..because he looks about 70 and fit as a fiddle you 'd never guess his age so it's hard thinking of him being so frail.
Pat just called, went to Buffalo Monday as planned..didn't shop as much as they would have liked, said she has seen rain and winds but never like this..did enjoy and did make it to the Christmas tree shop and enjoyed!
jean looked at your links, sure from same family but I like your trilZlim's mottled leaves..should go heck, usually about same time the trilliums are out so are the morels.
Susan not often you sleep in.
Crissy, weekend is almost here..after the week you had am sure you are ready for it!
Oh Betty I have that bi-annual conference to work this week, then Dave wants to go camping on Saturday and Sunday, I'm not fond of him right now.
Buses are uncomfortable and you have to be alert all the time or someone will steal your crap.
Betty - guess not getting to sleep until 4:30 Tues am is the reason I slept so much last night - 9 hours...... PLUS, I took codeine coffee syrup and pain tablets so my coughing would settle and I could sleep..........
Betty, I can imagine where she has the poison ivy, but want to know how she got it there? LOL! Poor girl, I know she is miserable!
Sorry to hear about Aline's Dad in Florida! Sending prayers!
LindaKay, he was sick the entire drive home, he told Aline and her sister it was just from bumping into things but no platelets in his blood. He is in intensive care in St Catherine's hospital!
As for Ann, said her brother was over Saturday and cut an old tree into sections, lots of poisin ivy in the same region. Sunday and Monday she dragged the logs to the back of the house..some were so big she put between her legs to be able to haul, thus poisin ivy in some not so nice of spots!
Started this post forever around 4:30..thought I pressed send..not..
sailor looks pretty, there went my weeks allowance..between chicken jerky and grooming I'm broke..make appt for end of May, better save my $$$
He does animal rescue, had about 12 dogs to find home for, closed my eyes as I passed by..makes his own food, yikes a big bag is $69.98' told me if I started to feel sailor with his foot she would do much better..didn't buy the food but did buy a bag of chicken jerky treats $25.00. Don't even feed myself that well. lol
Got something to take for my chest..groomer said omg you should be in bed, yep I should but here I am..had to go outside while he worked on Sailor. Did some odd things, just like an animal whisperer, seemed to relax her..
Was too tired to head out to town to pick up something for dindin so guess its cooking, the old fashion way of feeding oneself!
I think I'll go up on Saturday, maybe fewer passengers than on Friday. Crissy, thanks for the reminder to mind my stuff. The only other time I rode the bus here I sat next to a young Mexican man who has an orchard and we chatted happily about plants that grow here. Speaking of plants that grow here, goldenberries now grow here and I've been sharing them even though we don't have many Tony took some home for the family today.
AND I finally got a response from Kaiser that I am on the list for surgery but they didn't sau if I'm scheduled - I have to call the appointment people. I will spring for a call from my Mexican phone tomorrow and hope I don't get a recording.
I am really twitchy. Pre-trip jitters worse than usual since I'll be on the bus and not in my shell (van).
I feel you all holding me.
hugs, katie
For sure we'll "be there" with you, Katie - guarding you all the way.
Sure hope you get the surgery date you want! It can be gruelling waiting for a date, but we'll pray for a date you like!
Hello To All !
Susan that wild rose is so pretty ...hard to believe it grows wild ! LK - guess you didn't get the unseasonal "cool" front we got... was very unusual.
Yes - Betty - I think humidity is 24/7/365 days a year in Louisiana. At least most of the time....
Not last week ! LOL
Betty - I'd drive up there in a heartbeat if I got more than 10 days vaca per year.... Keep buying those lottery tix so I can quit !
Jean - I sell TV commercials. I've never seen the native trillium... but it's pretty - I'd grow some but wouldn't buy for $26! wow.! Too funny I remember one of Baton Rouge's early Earth day celebrations made the Paul Harvey news ...ironically and unfortunately for the amount of trash left ... but that was long ago....I'm sure they have cleaned up that issue....sure wish I could go...
Hmm....if you are able to come to the Hibiscus show & sale at LSU May 6th I will be working there! may even enter one of my blooms (if I have any) as an "amateur".
SAFE TRAVELS Katie ! (HUGS) we are with you my dear....
Betty - i don't have any morels either. (ROFLOL)
DEBBIE you can NOT leave us hanging like that! Have you left with your Refrigerator box ?
Hugs,
Mary
OH! Jean & Betty - the swap is in Florala, Alabama. I'll spend Friday night in Crestview. I think HUBS IS GOING ! YAY!
Well, just had a "little" scare........... we're alright though.......
Right to my right shoulder and above...... we have 2 tempered glass shelves about 6' long. I was in the LR sittin' and sewin' when I heard a CRASH! the top shelf fell on the bottom one, and everything - Fish, small plant, 5x7 pictures, etc FELL. The fish tank broke, and my poor fishy ended up in the cat litter tray below where the shelves Were.
Fishy is ok (Bob got him in his hand, and I got some water w/chemical in a bowl. We'll need to get a new tank (it's one of those tiny plastic ones you put Beta fish in)....... The small plant was only a little one.
Now there's a big hole where the Wall gave way - about a 4" hole in the drywall........
Bob's going to cut the damaged section of drywall out and then put strips of board across (attached right to the wall frame) so he can put the shelves back on.
If I'd been sitting at my desk, the shelves would have come down right on my shoulder - I was lucky......... I normally am at my desk, as you know...........
OMG Susan.... Thank goodness you are okay... isn't that something that you weren't where you normally would be.... Glad Fishy is okay....
(HUGS) what a scare!
Yeah - I've stopped shaking, but had a nasty headache from it. My poor fishy........ first, last April, he was "shipped" to me and it took 5 days, not getting "dumped" unceremoniously into our cat's litter tray? He must have Nine Lives lol
OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! so Happy you were not at the desk !!!
Betty , I recommend vanilla tea, with lots of honey!!!!
Katie.....gentle hugs
I agree - lots of honey in your tea! Vanilla tea? never heard of it.....
I only wish my poor fishy survives....... they say goldfish have a 3 second memory...... hope my Beta has a short one too lol
Woke up with thoughts of Dianne and Santa Warren..hoping there will be news that he will be home this weekend.
It's raining this morning, enter soft rain, just what the gardens need..will also help make weeding easier should I get outside at some pont in the next few days!
Omg Susan, how on earth could that have happened?? Too much weight? Lucky nobody was seriously injured! Poor little fishie, let's hope the shock doesn't do him in.
Chest cold starting to break, once I rid myself of the flem I'll be a-ok
Goodness Mary, hubs going, was that a yehhhh, help share in the driving or yehhh oh happy days, just what I needed.
Thunder, just finished your 2 thread catchers, in the mail on Next Saturday..after you said you could use two, looked in the box for liner, had 5 more so now ending up with eight! Lol
Suse, are you lost in the gardens?you must almost be caught up?
Up and at it, seem to do better when I'm moving.. Might solder a bit.
Susan....thank goodness you are alright. Must have scared you near silly. Hope your Beta is okay.
Mary, that is a nice easy drive to Florala...I have friends in Pensacola, Gulf Breeze and Crestview, so have made the trip many times. If traffic is good and you get out of BR fairly easily, then it is smooth sailing. Hope you have a wonderful time and a safe easy trip.
Yeah, it was a real whack on the head for BR Earth Day....the next year it was voted to hire DPW workers to help keep cans empty and provide the cardboard recycling bins for glass, metal and plastic containers....the irony was not wasted on the ED council....
Katie, Hang in there....sounds like relief is in the works. Fingers crossed for a surgery date in the very near future......and good thoughts for ya in the meantime.
Betty, my mom would mix a teaspoon of honey with a teaspoon of lemon juice for us when we had sore throats when we were little...then as we got older, she would mix double that in a small cup of hot tea....it worked.
Hope you all have a fine day
Jean, have to go out for an hour once my work shift ends at 4:30 and will pick up honey and lemons..seems honey was on everyone's cure all list! We had Earth day, Ontario is a strong supporter of Earth day. On Monday the entire school was out, garbage bags in hand walking the streets, wonderful that it's now part of our curriculum.
one of my visits to New Orleans (one i took all the seniors on) I drove to Florida, followed the coast line, spent the night in Pensacola..will never forget, hardly a hotel to be had, let alone 4 rooms..an incident happened in one of the rooms. Omg, double omg, shaking my head here, we laughed like crazy but it wasn't a laughing matter..big grin here
The lemon "cauterizes" for want of a better word and the honey coats...when we were congested she would put it in peppermint tea....soothes and relaxes. I used Celestial Seasons Sleepytime tea for my grandson....
Sounds like there is a story behind that "incident"....grin
Morning everyone. Have been up since 2 am so sorta feel like the day should almost be over.
Just got back from a visit to the vet with my Stormy boy. Holding my big guy tight.
Dianne
Thanks for info Jean and everyone else..if my hacking would stop I'd feel fine..ribs are killing me! oh well, not a big problem in scheme of things..
What happened was I had myself and 15 seniors, omg we travelled in an rv (me being the driver) and I was responsible for organizing the entire trip..wouldn't make plans, where we ended up we ended up..these yearly trips were sooo much fun..before then some hadn't been further than 100 miles away from home.
well we got 4 rooms by the Grace of God..we paired up in 4 to a room..I was exhausted, just fell asleep when one of the rooms called an asked if I'd come over..went over, here someone had done #2 in the med, flattened it out so the bed look made..when Mae (Darlene's mom) got into bed she couldn't lift the top sheet over her, got up turned on the lights and there you go...all dried up yuk yuk and double yuk..they did come to redo the bed but no discount or apology given..as it was a football weekend and no rooms we just stayed otherwise we'd have packed up and moved to alternate hotel..we still laugh when talking about our trips and Mae always brings up this incident..
On another trip we went to Floriday, one of the women who never went more than 25 m iles away from her home, can you imagine, well we took side trip to Miami, got a ship and went to the Bahama's, quite a trip for most of them..Lorraine panicked when we went up the escalator, grabbed onto the man in front of her who was wearing light shorts, she grabbed them and pulled, needless to say the shorts came down..another good laugh, NOT so for the man though..
so many memories of these seniors and our trips..all but 3 or 4 are alive..must try and find photo's..
one more, one trip again to Florida, included my grandmother who was in her high 90's..went to Tampa to the amusement theme park (forget the name - something gardens) doesn't matter, the seniors went on the big plume ride which included coming down into water..I was sooo pleased being frightened of high places that I could stay and watch along with my grandmother..short lived, no way she wasn't going...when the lineup saw my group they applauded..I worried grandma would have a heart attack, if not her, me for sure so off we went..
as we got off, the crowds went wild, I asked grandma how she liked it? "I had so much fun I pee'd myself!!!" lordy those are good memories, now how did I get from your post to going back in time???
Just finished more thread catchers..now 8 in total..think some will go in the bags I'm making up for those coming to the DG reunion here in May...Jean you might think about grabbing a flight and joining us..
Also on the outside of the porch a bird has made a nest..Missy has a perch, she can hear them but up to now can't get at the birdies..thank goodness...but here she sits waiting for her opportunity! In the background you can see the neighbors shed, what didn't get destroyed in our last high winds certainly did over the weekend..
OH Dianne, how much more can be put on your plate..what did the vet have to say..
These furries become such a great part of our families!!! Will certainly be a long day for you, can you get some sleep before heading out to see Warren? You must totally be exhausted! And here I'm complaining about a silly cold..
