I'm not sure how I'm making it, Betty - it just seems we're "bad luck bears"
Good thing we have our sense of humour, each other, our Church and friends........
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? come chat with friends
I'll say!
ok - would cost less to get a recycled tank - $125. To weld would be $150 + (they'd have to have us bring the tank in and see what it could cost.........)
We have a Mechanic friend/neighbour who would take off/put on the tanks. He's reasonable and good.
We can get a recycled tank today (they're open, but our friend's at work, so would be after 5pm for him)
Good thing it stays light enough for him to do it later today.
Thing is, the cost would be 1/2 of what we have left in our bank account....... ah well, it needs to be done, so we'll wait until Bob's employment ins comes in, and all bills come out - within the next week
Bob & I will just have to go everywhere together LOL
We have the app't tomorrow to see about our Utility cost, and we need to go together there lol
Small bow, thank you, grin
Susan, there have been almost as many downs as ups for DH and I over the 40 years we have been married. Each time something rears its ugly head, I say This too shall pass, bow my head and give thanks for all the wonderful things in my life and ask for guidance.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
I have a bracelet that I wear all of the time that has the first 4 lines of the Serenity Prayer that Jean posted above.A friend gave it to me when she first heard of Santa Warren's cancer. It means an awful lot to me and I find myself reciting the lines many times during the day.
Need a new battery for my Tang. Went to get it on the road today and the battery is done. Will get one tomorrow plus a new serpentine belt and a friend will putboth in on Wednesday. Now my car insurance will go sky high. For a 62 year old lady who has never had a accident that was her fault the insurance rates are through the roof. Once I get the Tang on the road thougn all the $$'s for insurance don't seem so bad. Which reminds me I need to get the insurance put back on the beast.
Enjoy your day ladies!
Dianne
sitting here crying......... I know I have a loving family, in another province :-( a loving husband, a roof over our heads, our Church and our friends.
I can see our pantry dwindling but we can get food hampers.
No jobs on the horizon for either of us and all our retirement saving funds are depleted.
Our home is coming apart (trailer) and we can't afford to fix it.
The City is closing the park in 2014 and want to move us all 1/2 way across the city. This mobile won't take the trip as the ceiling is separating from the wall now.......
We're going to Alberta Works tomorrow to see if we can get assistance. I don't know if they can give us the whole amount to pay our Electric/Gas utility, but we'll see.
As our pastor said "It's hard to have faith when these things are happening, isn't it?" Truer words have not been spoken..........
((((Susan))))
Susan, also sending ((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))) your way. Does your area, offer any type of food assistance, like we have here in the states. Food stamps? Are there any food banks you can go to?
http://www.afbna.ca/
yes, we have food banks - that's why I mentioned we could get food hampers.
I just feel like our life is crumbling around us. With Bob 62, and me 58, we're finding it difficult to find jobs.........
OMG Susan, maybe a good cry will help..
I think I'd better check my lottery tickets from Friday, someone won, pray it is I!
Would you consider moving back home? At least being near family would be a help.
Dianne, nice to get your Tang out I bet..Darlene will do same next week..
Amazing what insurances charge and nothing you can do about it.. what does the serpentine belt do, is it for the fan?
Picture of the canada geese soon to be near my pond..have most of the other metal pieces shown
I don't know if there are jobs "back home" and we can't even afford to move Any of our stuff back.
Not even the necessities...........
We have about $250 in the bank, $900 in bills coming up, and when Bob's EI comes in, it goes to pay that. Then we'll have nothing.
We're living hand-to-mouth at the moment.
Wish we could sell our place, but in 2 years we've only had nibbles and if it sells, it would only cover the bills with Rev Cda and personal, with nothing left for anything else.
'sides - move back to Winnipeg, and we'd get the same support we got before we moved here - nada (with no job for me in Winnipeg at the time). They don't help financially, and no one in our family has work connections........ so it would cost $$ to move, for what?!?! Hugs don't support us, but they make us feel better. Feeling better doesn't pay the bills.......
We're better off staying put.
Sorry - I'm being such a downer, but I don't see any way around this.
Just don't know what to say Susan! What is Bob thinking?
LindaKay, you were saying how the boys had grown..went back to 2006/2007 here on DG and looked at a few photo's/sayings etc. actually was a nice way to spend the last few hours!
copied a few of the postings..
The Mountain Story
A son and his father were walking on the mountains. Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain:
"AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"
He receives the answer: "Who are you?"
Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"
He receives the answer: "Coward!"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"
The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."
And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!"
The voice answers: "I admire you!"
Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"
The voice answers: "You are a champion!"
The boy is surprised, but does not understand.
Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you say or do. Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.
If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart.
If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life; Life will give you back everything you have given to it."
YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU!
He's just quietly going about his day....... not saying much of anything - guess it's his own way of dealing with the situations
He's over at our neighbours, trimming a door. Bud had bought a bi-fold door and it doesn't quite fit.
Bud & Norma are also "moved from Winnipeggers" and occasionally they get Bob to do odd jobs for them. They're really a nice couple. They don't know the extent of what we're going through. Only our pastor really knows.
Betty - is my life a reflection of me?
NOT intended for you SUSAN..just going back in time and saw a few postings ..Twyla, Hope 43 had posted
The Weight Of The Past
Regret
Holding onto regret is like dragging the weight of the past with us everywhere we go. It drains our energy, leaving less available for life in the present because we are constantly feeding an old issue. This attachment can cause illness the same way watering a dead plant creates decay. We know that something new and beautiful can grow in its place if we only prepare the soil and plant the right seeds. We also know that we create our lives from our thoughts, so dwelling on the past may actually recreate a situation in our lives where we are forced to make the choice again and again. We can choose to move on right now by applying what we have learned to the present and perhaps even sharing with others, transforming the energy into something that is constructive and creative for ourselves and others.
Forgiveness is the soothing balm that can heal regret. In meditation, we can imagine discussing the issue with the self of our past and offering our forgiveness for the choice. In return, we can ask for our selves’ forgiveness for keeping them locked in that space of judgment for so long. We may also want to ask forgiveness from anyone else who may have been affected and perhaps offer our forgiveness. By replaying the event in our minds, we can choose a new ending using all that we now know. Imagine that you have actually gone back into the past and made this change, and then say goodbye to it. Release your former self with a hug and bring the forgiveness and love back with you to the present. Since we are usually our harshest critics, it is amazing how powerfully healing it can be to offer ourselves love.
Keeping our minds and our energy fully in the present allows us to fuel our physical and emotional healing and well-being today. This action frees our energy to create the dreams we dream for the future. By taking responsibility and action in the present, we can release our hold on the past.
Do you mind me sharing going down 2007 memory lane???
we had Laura from Australia joining in our chats, she posted the following:
Tequilla and Salt
This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror where you could read it every day...You may not realize it, but it's 100% true!!!
1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.
2. At least 15 people in this world that love you in some way.
3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want
to be just like you.
4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.
5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.
6. You mean the world to someone.
7. You are special and unique.
8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.
9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.
10.When you think the world has turned its back on you take another look.
11. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.
So always remember...when life hands you Lemons, ask for tequila and salt...
Good friends are like stars...You don't always
see them, but you know they are always there!
I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here than a whole truck load when I'm gone.
I AM THANKFUL FOR THE WIFE
WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME,
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.
FOR THE HUSBAND
WHO IS ON THE SOFA BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.
FOR THE TEENAGER
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME,NOT ON THE STREETS.
FOR THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED
FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.
FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.
FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE
FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME.
FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT
BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
FOR THE PARKING SPOT
I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING
AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION.
FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL
BECAUSE IT MEANS THAT I AM WARM.
FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH WHO SINGS OFF KEY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR.
FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.
FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES AT THE END OF THE DAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.
FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.
Can't you tell I'm bored????
Just skip my ramblings if it's all too much lol
15 THINGS THAT IT TOOK ME OVER 50 YEARS TO LEARN:
1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
2. There is a very fine line between “hobby” and “mental illness”
3. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them
4. You should not confuse your career with your life
5. Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance
6. Never lick a steak knife
7. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip
8. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time
9. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment
10. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven
11. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above-average drivers
12. A person who is nice to you but rude to a waiter is not a nice person (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails
13. Your friends love you anyway.
14. Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark and a large group of professionals built the Titanic
15. Men are like fine wine. They start out as grapes, and it's up to the women to stomp the crap out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with
Yet Another
“After a While”
After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesn't mean leaning
and company doesn't always mean security.
And you begin to learn
that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow's ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down
in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn...

Love the old stories, and pictures Betty.
No wonder we feel like family, we've seen each others families age, been through a lot of trauma and drama..family for sure!
I too love the trip down memory lane.
o my yes, Betty - we are "ageing gracefully" together.
thank you for the postings, and the Trip Down Memory Lane - loved seeing pics of those who've been posting Forever with us. I can't remember when I started......... will have to check - I know it's in my profile somewhere.
Susan, here ya go" Tallulah_B signed up on Feb 19, 2008
yeah, saw that........ thought I'd signed up earlier than that though lol
So, I've been with DG for over 4 years.......... Lotta water under the bridge, and I'm Still whining LOL LOL LOL
Susan, it is! I have been on since 2005.
Maybe I'd been on DG earlier, but didn't "buy" a subscription........ It's so long ago that I've forgotten lol
Waving to all..
Greg/Mel and the boys came for supper..chinese..greg was looking for spaghetti so back they come tomorrow night lol
no sooner had they ate that they decided to take a run to the city to meet Jeff and pick up a tv and stand for me..I'm quite happy with the tv i have besides , the cabinet my tv is in was specially made for me and front door I painted a beautiful floral on...doubtful Greg wants it, Jeff not and I don't think I have room for it! in their wisdom as they watched the smaller screen they decided I am in need of a large screen..so a 200 mile round trip leaving at 6:30pm is not something I wanted them to do but there was no talking them out of it.
Told me not to fall asleep as they need to get in for delivery..my guess will be midnight..kids!!!
This thread was started spring of 2007!
Debbie was the trip to Rochester a sunny drive?
Dianne, Darlene said she decided to leave insurance on her vehicle and insure the mustang, told her $75 a month..that is not to high right?
LOL dashing off at that hour to get a tv for you, that you don't want...... silly men!
I thought they could get in without you having to let them in........ but then they'd wake you up, getting in at that time.
Catch some zzzzzzzzz's and wake up when they return..........
Hi y'all!
Another busy day ... Washing, house work, and Monday stuff. Won't bore you with the details ...
Yesterday was a wonderful Easter with church and then family. Lots of food ...
Susan, {{{ }}} Wish it was more, but please know you have my daily prayers. I believe in miracles! I, too, treasure the Serenity Prayer. I have a "Praying Hands" Bible bookmark that my Grandma gave me when I was 13 that has it inscribed on it.
Oh Betty ... what fun with all the memories. I didn't know you had those gardening pics. LOL I need to post some updates. We're still using those. They've really held up! I now have 15 Earth Boxes ... Smile
Dianne, how are you and Santa Warren tonight? What about Stormy and Quill?
Debbie, what about Shane? Hope his pain level is more manageable.
Wow Betty ... a new TV you don't want? LOL
Barb, I'm sure you must have said and I've missed it, but how are you doing? You continue to be in my daily prayers ...
Katie ... {{{ }}} Sounds like you could use a hug, too.
Hi Thea ... Have missed you!
Oh, where is Laura? Haven't seen her post about "little man" lately?
And speaking of which ... Linda how's yours doing?
Okay, I've been on DG since 2005. Now I'll ~ to those I've missed ... Off to get ready for bed. Will check in before I turn in ... Gotta see if Betty has her new TV! hahaha
