Best/Worse/What did I learn today? come chat with friends
Well DH has just had another terrible fall. Fortunately a friend was here to help me lift Santa Warren up. He doesn't need stitches nor has he broken any bones but his whole right side is pretty banged up. He just blacked out and down he went. It is a Stat holiday here both Friday and Monday so if push comes to shove I will have to take him into the ER in Kingston. Please send positive thoughts his way.
Dianne
Sorry to hear this Dianne! Sending lots of prayers your way!
(((((((Dianne & Santa Warren)))))))))
Is there someone who can stay with you over the long w/e? blacking out isn't a good sign......
Prayers & thoughts are winging their way to you both.
Oh Dianne, how absolutely terrifying for him (and you) to wonder with each step if he'll fall! Did one of the doctors not give you his phone number for just these times? Let's hope he will not have to go in...sending prayers and hugs for you both.
Debbie, update on Shane please..
Hey all,
Shane is sporting a bright green cast. I wanted to go pick him up and he insisted he HAD to stay at school throughout tomorrow as it is finishing up some projects.
He is hurting pretty bad.
Though out all of this, I will say I am impressed with the way some of his college mates have stepped up to bat and helped out. When Ron took Shane to Urgent Care...they wanted money before they would see him. All they had to do was call us and we would give them the card number....but Ron pulled out his Emergency Visa card and paid for it. THEN took Shane over to get his prescription filled. Today, another friend Mike, whom I have met, skipped a class....and took Shane to the Orthopedic office for his cast.
I moved money over to Shane's account so he could pay these kids back and give them gas money. We were on the road when we got the initial call...so had our hands tied what we could do.
Today, DH went to see Surgeon. He goes back to work on April 16th.
I go back to the Chiro tomorrow. I can't remember if I told you, he is sending me to a neurologist and asked if we had a good lawyer. I felt a bit sore this morning, but am doing better this afternoon.
Susan, do you have something like our HEAP department. It is a emergency fund for people having trouble with their Power bills. ALSO, the Gas Department will take our old bill....divide it over 12 (or 24 if it is very high like yours)....and give us monthy payments to make along with the "new balance". We have had to do this many times. Start asking now about budget plans and payment arrangements....don't let them bully you because they will. There is a law...they can't shut you off here between Oct. 15 & April 1st...coldest months of the year. Canada has to have something similar in place.
Hello to All....
(((((HUGS))))) Dianne.... Please keep us posted re: Santa Warren. I suppose you just can't know when something like that could happen and as I recall you saying he is a large guy. Prayers going your way and Much Love.....
Oh Debbie - well in the midst of a crisis with Shane I'm SO Glad these guys stepped up to the plate and helped out. Sounds like some plates of home-made cookies or something headed out to them.... I remember in college the frat boys helping me when my car broke down. Dad sent me extra money told me to get them a 12 pack of beer ! ROFLOL! They sure did enjoy that....do they all have Easter Break ?
Susan (HUGS) dear.... great suggestion from sis Deb... Only thing I could think of was perhaps a last minute Garage Sale this weekend? Maybe not the whole amount but enough to try to strike a "deal" with the company?
Waving to Crissy - wow 5 broken arms ! Hope work gives you a break.
Suze ! I want a sweet olive, hubs says we don't have room. Have you tried Sweet Basil ? It's an annual but one of my favorite plants... Come to the Florala swap April 28th and I'll bring you one ! Also - I know you would enjoy one because as much as you enjoy cooking... they are wonderful to cook with ! even eat raw !
I must say everytime I catch a whiff of a wonderful smelling plant... I do think about ya ! Wish you had been here last week - our oranges were blooming like crazy.
Oh Dianne... You are definitely Annie Oakley. Such a strong lady.
Betty - (HUGS) You remind me of my MIL (as you know Love you both much).... she always frets over what to cook for family get togethers. Hubs always tells me he wishes she'd just buy something and not stress. I'm sure she (and you) do love the idea of the cooking and caring for family. Maybe just take a break this time. Buy a ham... open some cans.... be done with it.
Hmm.... Will definitely go look up epiglottis. You know it has occurred to me that I have fits in times of stress. Also when I eat, and sleep. Doc mentioned doing the tube down my throat test, which scares me.
I'll go look that up....will check back in a bit.
Have to work tomorrow. Hoping like Betty that they call a half day....
(HUGS)
Mary
Susan will they strip the altar tonight since it is Maundy Thursday? Sure praying your church will be able to help you and Bob.
Debbie it is wonderful that Shane's college mates stepped up to help. When I think back to my university days I can remember times where that happened. I think even though we were young for the most part we had a sense of responsibility and had seen our parents help out others so we had a sense of what to do.
Thanks so much for your support this afternoon. Santa Warren is now snuggled in bed, snoring loudly. He can snore all he wants.I sure don't mind. Would rather listen to the snores than the alternative.
Yes Betty I did have a number to call and did so. Doc didn't think the situation warranted bringing in oxygen today. Apr 13 he sees the Palliative Care Doc, however he sees our GP on Wed. During the afternoon leading up to the fall and also after - actually until about 30 min ago Warren seemed to be a walking comatose body. A tad frightening! Anyway he is now responsive when I poke him. Earlier today even a hard pinch or cold water on his face did not stir him. So yes, I am very concerned about his blackouts. Hoping and praying for an uneventful night.
Betty I think Greg said it very well - it doesn't matter about the food its the company that is important. Chinese sounds wonderful! Do you have a Chinese restaurant in your town or do you order from a bigger metropolis? Enjoy your day with your family.
Who has to work tomorrow?
Dianne
We did the food shopping for Easter today. Going to be a simple meal. Picked up the spiral ham, 11 lbs. Will make the green bean casserole and corn, and also have seen scalloped potatoes in crock pot so will give those a try. DH wants his mashed taters...so told him he can fix them! I put the girls in charge of desserts so I feel better now.
Also, since Joe can't be here for dinner, we are doing a big breakfast for whomever wants to come. DH will make waffles, and I will do up scrambled eggs, bacon and some fruits. That should hold us til late afternoon dinner.
Mary & Dianne, it is such a huge relief that those young men.....all of 18 & 19, stepped in to help Shane. He sent me a picture to my phone of his cast and hand, and it looks so so swollen. I just hope I can be the brave Mom tomorrow when I see him. And YES those boys will be getting some cookies or something. I have a feeling Mike might be out here this weekend, he knows the way.
Susan, what if you approach the church as this is a loan....and will be payed back in small increments. Would they be open to that?
Debbie
1. Our Church has only about 80 members, with most of them not able to attend as they're in care homes - the Church cannot afford to extend loans of this amount. Some of our members are also on Assistance themselves.....
2. The Gas/Electric co has emailed the "Disconnect pending" bill so we can take it to the Alberta Works on Tuesday (it's a long weekend, and Friday/Monday we cannot go). They have given us an extension until Friday the 13th (how appropriate, eh?) to get the $$ together, as neither of us know how much $$ or how long before we can get it.
3. According to the City, the gas company can cut us off entirely on April 15th (yes, it is that time of year).
4. No garage sales at this time of year.......... it's still snowing.... But I have thought of kijiji.com and craigslist. It will take awhile doing it this way because it's always a "one item at a time" sorta deal...... Our church has a Spring Sale in May, but that's a month away. Last year I made over $100 at it, and I know that won't appease the gas/electric company.
3. We did strip the altar for Maundy Thursday. It was a small service, but interestingly enough - there were a total of 13 bodies there - pastor and music minister included, so we had "12 disciples and Jesus" although our pastor said he'd rather not be Jesus "because you know what happened to Him!" lol
Morning all, brisk out there this mornimg but sun is shinning in, imagine by late mornimg I can be outside doing a npbut bit in the gardens..
Dianne, how did your and Warren's night go?? Hooe it was as you wanted, uneventful! Am sure you did not sleep and spent much of the night making sure Warren was resting well. You'll be relieve to have the two appts behind you and updated on his present condition..guess he would fight having a wheelchair?? Likely you and Theanwill have same weather as I today, a few hours outside in sunshine and in your gardens will be a blessing! Prayers coming your way along with hugs..
Debbie, how wonderful that Shane has met such friends...know they would go for Mary's six pack of beer but a doz. of cookies will make them feel all toasty inside that someone else's mom thinks they are heroes. Maybe write up a note in a card, something they can show their parents, always nice to make brownie points.. Your Easter meal sounds yummy..loved having family breakfast, everyone seemed to chat more. Now that I have the day to do nothing, will take time and post photo's of the pressies you gave me....
Mary, don't know that the write up on epiglottis gives much info on it also causing swelling due to stress, but must say once I got out of that environment, it went away.. Love it when you southerners speak of all the different shrubs you can plant, wonder if some in our gardens are not seen in your neck of the woods..not many have such fragrant smells..maybe mock orange. Think when I buy shrubs this sorngni'll look for those that bloom more in summer and have fragrance.
Susan, i just don't know what to say.. The next few days are days of the Lord, let's hope he has the answers. Are there employment agencies that will hire for day positions, might be able to give both you and Bob temp assignments that would generate enough $$ to negotiate a payment plan..that is one heck of a high bill..how long was it for...I don't use that much for entire year! Could they have made an error? Could you use your next unemployment checks to pay the amount and then work on catching up on other bills? So want to win the lotto and not for me..would be nice to help in situations such as this!!
Laura, wonderedmifmyou and the family are on your way to some area park to enjoy the long weekend?? Mid so, where did you pick??
Thunder, your family driving down to have Easter? How are the engaged couple? Date set for the wedding?
Jean, anything special going on?
Well, best get dressed, get vacuuming/washing floors and dusting behind me then enjoy the day..
What are your plans for the day???
Morning Betty! Sounds like you will be busy this week-end in the garden? Can't wait to see pictures of your new garden art with the geese?
Not much going on here. I will go and get stuff to make Easter baskets for a few neighbor kids, but won't be going to San Antonio this week end. They are all busy running all over the place, going to the parks for Easter over there!
It is going to be warm here again. It is 69 now, and supposed to be 91 this afternoon! Think I will make a gallon of sweet tea with lemon!
Hope you all have a wonderful week-end!
Some of my roses blooming!
B e a t i f u l Lindakay, isn't your song 'yellow rose of Texas?'
Your gardens are probably at their prime right now before extreme heat, although, to me 91 IS extreme heat!
Another few weeks and you will see such a change in Dylan..is he sleeping better? Kids so love Easter. I'll buy the young ones an Easter treat and wouldn't be right is the big kids (Greg and Jeff) one as well!
Bet the neighbors kids will be thrilled...
Just finishing upstairs, can't believe how much hair the furries leave..goal is to be outside by 11am.
Did get the front deck and back bedroom deck floormatts out...in need of some touch ups, set them on the decks so the sun will cause them to lay flat..maybe some good old javex might do the trick..spring is just so much work. Lol
Usually I keep all the major yard work projects for the to do list but this year I've a few other projects in mind so I'll just chop away at my list and before you know it all will be done!
As for the metal geese, think they said when all put together will be about 12 after geese are set in so 8' post would leave the geese to be about the 3 geese making 4 ft span. Anxious as well, now to figure where it will be set..will have boys cement in ground near pond..one mothers dat to do..they already think I'm mad, am sure they will be shaking their heads..will be in later this month, how will I manage to wait until mothers day to have it installed?? Might be something. Can do! I saw you shaking your head and saying no.
Well, break is over, off to dust!
Dylan is still fighting his night time sleep, but hopefully he will get it fixed soon! Problem is she picks him up every time he makes a noise. I told her he will be just fine if you let him cry for 5 minutes, but she is not listening right now... She will learn.
Hi all, yes I'm at work today.
Oh my Dianne, you are one strong gal. I'm sending warm wishes and hugs that he gets through this.
(((((((((((((((((DIANNE AND WARREN)))))))))))))))))))
Debbie he has some good friends there, and I'm proud of him for staying at school to get things done, I would have said screw it and do the alternative lol. I'm going to tell ya he's going to be in a lot of pain this week, next week won't be so bad, then the 3rd week the itching starts, he's going to need a metal hanger he can bend to make a long metal stick type thing, so he can use the rounded end to scratch inside the cast. I have many so if you want me to send one or several to you I'll be more than happy, I'm very accustomed to this rodeo.
LOL Mary, I have broken my arms so many times it got to the point I just knew the feeling and I would go into the house and tell whoever I was with that I broke my arm and need to go to ER. The 5th is when I decided to stop doing anything that requires balance, apparently I have none of that.
(((((((((((((((SUSAN))))))))))))))))) I hope your church can help you, and I would definitely try what Debbie said.
LK those are beautiful!!! Yeah that can be a problem, she needs to just let him cry for a bit, he'll cry himself back to sleep. You said this is her 3rd child, right?
LOL Betty, metal geese, I bet that is cool to look at, I probably would have bought it but since my money is dwindling down to nothing maybe I wouldn't have.
Yeah, this is her 3rd one, and you would think she would know better, but she is acting like this is her first! She will learn! Someday!!!
LOL LK that's funny, usually by the 3rd they're just saying aww whatever lol
You would think so! How is work going for you Crissy? Not working too hard I hope?
In for a quick break, looking at the clock and thinking wow still an entire afternoon for working..sun feels nice but quite a breeze so sweater and jacket it is..
Managed to get the gazebo top on..star for me, lawn furniture under it, even hung the chandelier that was over the table on back deck that no longer can be hung unger gazebo top, thought better there than mme trying to find a place to store itput the pump in the big pond, yuk so slimy I almost fell twice..got smart and unplugged it thinking I might forget it on and burn it out..have 1/3 left to drain, mthe the smelling removal of leaves and slime starts..dirtiest job of all for sure..leaving it for day's end because it will be tub and scrubbing myself, you wouldn't want to be around me then..
LindaKay, I had to think twice wether Dylan was Heather's first child..omg those little tykes soon learn who is boss..crying doesn't hurt them for sure..as you say..she will learn
Crissy how come you are at work on Good Friday? Did you take extra days off when you travelled to St. Louis? Wow, you are an accident looking to happen, you know I've never broken a bone, now just watch me fall and break one..well break is over
As for the metal geese, still has $$$ left from birthday..would say that paid half...know the feeling, bought back porch furniture and there went my pennies.
Gab later

LOL Betty, wish I had birthday money to blow, seems I'm blowing everything and then complaining that I don't have any money DUH! Yeah I took days off but I have vacation time so that doesn't matter. The State and Federal offices are working today, mail runs today also, it's not really a holiday, more of a bank holiday. I'm sitting here pretending to be you and looking at all of this paperwork that needs to be entered into the computer. Blah
Crissy, absolutely everything is closed here today..little variety store is open and to my surprise the restaurant..had poutine for lunch, same for Sunday and on Monday just random stores open. I'll make sure I buy what is needed tomorrow because of it. Looking at the click, not many hours before you head home..do you at least have Monday off??
As for $$$, had Xmas, birthday and shortly mothers day funds, all come at beginning of the year then nothing the 2nd half..should be saving some...
Omg, cleaned all the sludge in the pong, started to fill, spray unit came off, should have had ties, so n up to my waiste not once but several times...brrrr not I'm cleaned and in my Jammie's. Pleased at what I accomplished though.
Can't fall asleep yet because I'm filling the pond..sure hooe no more mishaps..early night for sure..thinking of ordering hamburg and onion rings for supper..make this a non cooking weekend.
Crissy - Our Church has only about 80 members, with most of them not able to attend as they're in care homes - the Church cannot afford to extend loans of this amount. Some of our members are also on Assistance themselves...
Betty - as much $$ as we would earn on temp jobs, EI takes back, so we'd "even out". If only I hadn't taken that 4 month temp job, we'd still be fine. Because I'd taken a "cut" in pay, my EI is lowered, plus because I was off EI for 4 month, they made me reapply and I was "out" 2 weeks pay as well. It just seems when I tried to get myself better-ed, I ended up worse off. I will only apply for a one-time emergency fund to get us back "on track" with the Gas company.
Other than that, we're fine.
I know that Bob's EI end the beginning of June, but hope one or both of us has jobs by then........
My EI is good until Feb 2013
Neither Easter nor Good Friday are holidays here in the US, so nope! EEEWWWWW!!! I bet you are glad of everything you have accomplished Betty, that's great!
Susan any help is better than no help, just sending my thoughts to you hoping they can help you a little, I have been in your shoes and did end up homeless.
Well, we at least own our trailer (no, can't sell it - no one's buying in our park), and the rent for the lot is cheaper than an apt would be, so guess we're ok that way. Just need the heat, is all.......
We'll find out on Tuesday (go there at 7:30 am) when and how much the Agency can help. I'll let you know.
We both appreciate that everyone here is hoping and praying for us. We will get back on track, and it's a momentary "glitch" in our lives. As our pastor said, sometimes we hit Rock Bottom, but we will get back, with the Lord's help.
Susan, I ran across this info....maybe it will be helpful to you...

Jean - Alberta Works is exactly where I'm going Tuesday am, to apply for an Emergency Assistance Application.
Thanks for researching this for us.
Cool. Believe me, we have been there and I know how frightening it can be. I added another link to the post above....I surely wish i had the wherewithall to be of more help. Hugs and good thoughts to you both.
You're truly awesome, Jean!
btw - previously when you emailed me - I realize I Do Not have "that condition" so am doing great. It's people like yourself that make me feel good. You're one of my "earthly angels". I have several in this room alone, and I want to thank each and every one of you!!
Best part of my day is coming to these threads and chatting with all my wonderful friends.
What I've Learned - Jean sent a link that gave me more info about what AB Works needs, prior to my going down at 7:30 am and finding I don't have all the documentation LOL
Worst - not knowing for sure what will happen in our future (jobs $$, moving the trailer park, etc)
Despite the size of this world, we are all a part of the Global Village. My Mom always said there is no shame in not being able to help someone...but great shame in ignoring/refusing to do what you are able. We must look out for each other as we can.
Jean, I'm going to send you one heck ig a hug for finding ythose links..here I am sitting but provinces away and you are soooo far south in LA and yet you,ve come up with these links..you are a sweetheart...your mom was one smart woman!
Susan, praying for one of two options, one my numbers come up in lottery draw tonight or that you get approved for some financial assistance..
Crissy, I'm amazed that Easter is not seen as a holiday...is that in every state? Going out tonight..it's Friday!
Am hoping Dianne updates us on Warren..
Special thoughts for Thea /Shirley/Bev and Barb...
Suse what did you get up to today..
Debbie I'm sure has running around to do, tiring herself out..hope Shane isn't doing poorly.
Turned up the heat, made hot chocoste, checked the pond, still not full
So still a bit longer before I can snuggle into bed..glad you are here to keep me company! Have some pretzels and Carmel's..

Betty - every one of my friends has their own special "nack" of helping me. You certainly have given me assistance in knowing about some agencies (you may have forgotten, but I haven't) and, given the extra info Jean's passed on, I'll be prepared for our meeting on Tues with all the proper documentation lol
We are to go there for 7:30, and doors open at 8:15. Apparently there is a long line-up to get in. Think I'll take my e-reader LOL Unless they have forms available outside so we can fill them in before they open the doors.........
Did you check to see if you can download the forms? Wouldn't that be something if you could get help?
Watching a movie about elections when Sarah Palin was running..got to say you almost have to feel sorry for her..she sure was thrown into deep water...interesting!
yes, Betty - I checked, and they Do have the forms online. Will go to Bob's computer and print them as mine is out of ink.
Betty - I believe you asked how long it would take for such a bill? It's approx $300 per month for heating and electrical.
Blush....glad to help. My "talent" seems to lie in gathering information....my friends teasingly call me the Google queen....my DH calls me a "fountain of mostly trivial but occasionally helpful info" we are both trivia buffs.....grin.
We are back home, again our 4 hour trip turned into an 8 hour adventure and we are all exhausted.
Shane looks pretty beat up. He has another wound on his right wrist they bandaged up, took quite a bit of skin off and it still bleeds. Watching that for infection.
His broken arm is quite painful...he said about a 7 to 8 on scale, but he won't sit still. The bone was broken 98% clear through and they have to watch it doesn't slide out of place. Recheck next Friday. Wish I could keep him home for a week but it is "the final countdown" at school and he just can't miss.
We need to "sit and relax" a bit and let my battle wounds from the Chiro settle. OMGosh that was horrible. BUT it feels better to sit already adjusted. I have to go back Monday for another as he is worried about the hips/pelvic region. He did my upper back/shoulders today for that BIG adjustment, never heard so much crunking! He said "Are you Ok?" I said "Yeah" and he replies "Good I have to do it again" as he was already doing it.
Enjoy your evening....be back
Debbie
Just wanted to say a quick hellooooooooooo to everyone...been MIA for quiete a while but I am back!!!
Big hugs for everyone and my T&P are with Dianne and Warren...sure hope Warren feels a bit better today....just wish there would be something we could do to help :(
I am on the run again, my sweety wants to watch a movie, but I promise I will be back tomorrow to chat some more.
Love and many hugs
Thea
Debbie, wow sounds as though Shane's fall could have been much worse..one lucky young man. Did you shed a tear when you saw him? Bet you did..probably hurt more than chiro . Do you get that quick of relief? Sounds painful..lordy you all have such aches..
Go have yourself a cola, that always makes you feel better.
Great that you will have all you need come Monday morning...are you sure it will be open Monday? Here municipal offices and the likes are closed. Wouldn't want you standing in a line with no hope getting in.
Well Jean, we will make you the resident information gatherer..likely will be a full time job for you. Lol
Sure brought a smile to my face seeing you post Thea..will look forward to another post. I'm now watching the 10 Commandments, now what movie does hubby want to watch?
Debbie, glad the injuries were not worse. Keeping his arm still and elevated will help a bit...is it in a sling? Sometimes an ice pack placed just above the cast will help also.....eases the throbbing.
I used to go to a chiropractor for my back and neck....each visit he would "crack" my neck to realign things....each time I would develop a sick headache that lasted for a day or two. Seems my bones are just too old and settled to try to "set" them in proper alignment...grin Chiro and Ortho both decided against further "alignment" for my neck.
LOL Betty....I will just add a new "hat" to my jobs list....
Hope you all have a lovely Holy Saturday/Easter Sunday......sunshine, gentle breezes and Chocolate....grin
Daylilies are starting to bloom
