Best/Worse/What did I learn today? come chat with friends

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Debbie - sounds like your "child" got out just in time - good that she's able to go back to her old job and hasn't burned bridges!
As for DS - well, let's hope he learned his lesson by having to speak to a Sheriff about his behaviour!! I remember my daughter having said someone ran them down when they were riding bikes and in fact there Was no car. They (3 of them) were charged with Public Mischief in having called the police with a false accusation. They had to do Community Service for a couple of weeks.- my DD sure learned her lesson, f'sure!! She was 15 or 16 at the time, and has been "straight arrow" ever since! She's a legal assistant.

Baton Rouge, LA

Deb - I think you had mentioned The CHild was getting some new clothes for the job.... anyways...good thing she figured out it wasn't going to work early on.... and GREAT that she listened to you and DSis....

Yes - the deal with Shane... it could have been a LOT worse.... Thank God they had the cameras to determine that he wasn't the REAL guilty party ! Sometimes folks just want to blame kids that age for everything.

Susan - you've been through it and lived... an inspiration for Deb and myself.....

DS likes to blame everyone else for his lot in life. I have a thought to throw him out and maybe he would begin to appreciate all he has been given. in a round about way it has worked for DSD.....

I have so many other things to deal with right now unfortunately dealing with DS has taken MUCH of a back seat......

It is what it is.... (HUGS)
Mary

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

((((((Mary))))))) With some you can kick 'em out and they learn, with others - they blame you for their troubles cuz "after all You deserted me and I'm so victimized!" As all kids are different, you have to figure out what "camp" your kid is in.........

My "kids" are now in their 30's and one's an absolute Joy (my DD) and my other (my DS, the con-artist) hasn't been seen or heard from since 1998. It is what it is........... for sure :-)

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, it was kids his age...the entire dorm floor was involved, BUT DS and his 3 roomies had gone to the movies. Had ticket stubs and the security cams to prove it

Thing thing I do NOT like. The prank call the day before, almost mirrored this incident that he "was not involved in". Almost wish he would have had the heck scared out of him sitting in the back of a police car...waiting. I think we are in the same boat as you, too much going on and he has to take a back seat right now.

I have come to the realization...if he makes a mistake, being old enough to know right from wrong, I will make sure he pays for it. We are all given choices, the right choice....and the wrong. SO, he wants to be treated as an adult....he is stepping up to bat all the way around.

Well, VERY hectic day tomorrow......

Going to worry about the safely of Coyotes in Canada....but going to bed.

Sweet dreams
Debbie

Hi night crew...

Oh Deb, I can't believe all you've been going through with the child and Shane ... and your DH on top of everything. Oh, and then there's your eyes. Poor gal. No wonder you're about to have a melt down.

Mary, I loved that book. I'm reading Together, A Novel of Shared Vision by Tom Sullivan. There's a sequel to it, also.

OMGosh, Betty ... you made me laugh about the spatula. Hope you're resting well in lala land by now and will feel much better tomorrow.

Susan, am sending prayers to you and your DH. Hope things will work out for both of you ...

Okay, Linda ... I need some neck suga from that sweetie! There's no little ones here, so you gotta git me some suga when you see him ... Promise? All us gals from the south *know what neck suga is! LOL

Okay, ~ing to those I've missed ... Will check in tomorrow.
Nighty night ...
~Suze

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm from the North (how much further north can you get than Canada - unless it's Iceland lol) and I understand neck suga!!
'cept I get it from my DH lol

LOL That's the best kind ...
You got me.
Grin

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oooooooh yeah!
So, what prompts you to be up late? It's only 10:15 here, but my DH is playing his RP game, and I'm cutting quilt blocks...... for me, this time lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I will give him lots of neck suga for all of you! Promise!

Night everyone!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

g'night LK!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Imagine you are all sleeping soundly and now I have to ponder what neck suga is??

You have no idea how wonderful it is to come visit and see the night shift on duty.

Dianne, between the meds and voltaren I've managed to get 1/2 the night in..can't wait to use the spatula at break of dawn...

Will go back and read your posts once I'm fully awake, best I try to sleep a few more hours

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Nope, I'm not sleeping.
Neck suga is being nuzzled in the neck - so sweet when a baby does it

Well, good to see you too, Betty - not able to sleep?

Verona, ON

Betty I am so glad to read that maybe the Voltaren and meds helped you get a bit of sleep. I even put it on Santa Warren in the spots where the bone cancer is the worst. Not so sure it does anything but he says it is so soothing he can forget about the pain for a bit.

Mary... YES read Catch Me it is excellent - and yes it is fiction. DH and I are voracious readers and we have both noticed that some of our tried and true writers like Deaver, Sandford and Hoag aren't as good as they used to be. Maybe it is us and we have read enough of their books we need a change. I've been scouring papers and mags for suggestions and have found a few new authors that I enjoy. I am sure both you and Debbie would enjoy anything by Kristen Hannah, Diane Chamberlain or Laura Hildenberg(?? not quite sure how to spell her last name) . I get all of these authors from Amazon. A friend lent me a book titled Bobby and Jackie. My goodness Bobby Kennedy was quite the rascal and ladies'man. Not that Jackie O didn't like her dalliances with many men. Book claims she had an affair with Marlon Brando and also one with the actor William Holden while JFK was still President.

Suse it is so good to see you here. Big hugs to you ,Danny and Moses.

Was going to go into Kingston for a grocery run but W's breathing is so bad I won't chance leaving him.Maybe tomorrow while the sales are still on.

Need coffee. Hope you all are waking to a bright sunshiny morning like we have here.
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, sunshine day in my neck of the woods..was up early enough I took a walk through the gardens to see was is peeking through the ground..I'm not the best knowing what is weeds and what is not, so I will wait until there is more growth. Counted seed packets this morning, total of 34..will work some of the ground and plant this weekend. Figure even if I get 20 or so plants from them it's still cheaper than purchasing container plants. Sure wish I had luck with sunflowers..any of you have tips on doing so. Think on my way home I will see if carpet roses are out at the nursery..could use a few, again don't have much luck with roses..I'm sure by now you are asking 'so what do you have luck with' lol

Dianne, must be difficult trying to decide if you should or should not take the trip into town and leaving Warren on his own..Debbie told us you do have a 'gun' and know how to use it much to her chagrin..omg, I don't think I've even held one..aren't you nervous it might backfire???
Interesting about the Kennedy's..should pick it up and read..enjoy such reading..their lives aren't quite the Camelot senerio we were led to believe it was.

As for Voltaren, it has indeed soothed the area..bit of heat coming from my back so guess the salve is doing its thing! Think I'll be keeping a tube in my medicine cabinet for sure..

Debbie, shaking my head, you must wake up every morning wondering what the day will bring..in all the years I've known you I cannot say you've had a boring day..so what's up today, please let it be quiet for you...

Mary, by the time Disney trip comes you'll be needing the time to be a kid yourself..difficult times raising teens..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Fresh coffee is on, with sweet orange rolls!

Betty, how was your blood pressure yesterday when the nurse checked it? Do you need to adjust your meds?

Good morning ...
Thanks Linda ... Smacking lips and grabbing an orange roll!!

Dianne, hope Warren's breathing gets better as the day progresses. Oh, I like Kristen Hannah, also. I agree about the authors just not being the same ...

Betty, hope you're feeling better today. We know better about your garden ...

Susan, sorry I crashed on you last night LOL ...Hope you have a good day.

We have drizzle this morning. Not sure if it will last or not. ~ing to those I might of missed and those who come after me. Will BBL. Need more coffee ...

Oh, forgot to send prayers to anyone lurking in the Dallas area. Horrible, horrible.

Victoria Harbour, ON

sweet orange rolls, took 2 to go along with my hot chocolate..

Suse, drizzle is good excuse to keep you indoors and plan your next step in the gardens..you made a new bed last fall, is it doing well?

Linda Kay, was 130 something over 70 so I think that is good lol

Lyndonville, NY

I am sitting in PT office waiting for DH. Then we go see the chiro who is doing an evaluattion to see if he can help me. feel sick to my stomach i am so nervous. Then off to Home Depot to find spacers for glass block windows putting in basement before dryer comes next week.
Other than that....its s wednesday!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks Mary...I think they are pretty special myself...grin My DD met a good looking Aussie man through work back in 2000...she was sent to AU to work for a few months in 2001....a couple months after she returned, Peter (DSIL) chucked everything and moved to US to be near her. They returned to Sydney in 2003 and were married in the Cook Islands. In Fall 2004 they settled in Brisbane. SIL is a regional Mgr for AUSSIE, a large financial corp. and DD does "company start-up computer" training and consultation. The oldest grandson tells everyone he is an Australian American like his brother, but his Dad is "just" Australian and his Mom is an American Australian. (DD and the boys have dual citizenship) She loves it there and it is a beautiful country....just SO far away.

Yes, we had hail also...but tiny and got over 2 1/2 inches of rain last night...guess Ma Nature is catching us up after the drought....as they say, when it rains it pours...grin

Ladies, count your blessings... My Mom used to say if you did not have some drama in your life...even small ones, then you were watching life from the sidelines....although I must admit, there are days when the sidelines look pretty good...GRIN

Hope you all are blessed with a spot of calm, a bit of good health and armloads of joy.
The clematis are blooming

Jean - I want "sidelines" today......... just got told by our Electric/Gas utility that they will cut us off entirely if we don't pay $1600 by Friday. Because we're both unemployed I was only able to pay $400 yesterday instead of the $1000 they wanted. I spoke to the City's help line as the utility suggested and will need to get an Emergency Needs Assessment. It's either that, or The Red Cross.
We have to pay it by Friday or they'll cut our gas off (will continue electrical only) and if we want to get reconnected would have to pay a deposit again.... in the hundreds of dollars.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Doesn't get any better for you Susan does it. That is one heck of a lot of money..the bill is for how long? You sure do need a miracle!

Well Adrian is quite a little speaker..know you are proud of him. Have you been for a visit?

Have had clematis for several years but I know they are in the wrong area..think I should be moving them and take my chances

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

No Betty - it doesn't.
We've been paying Something on all our bills, but the utility apparently Doesn't Care, according to the City.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not sure what this world is coming to that others don't care about those having difficulties.
Just makes me ill..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

ah well, if we have to do without heat I suppose we should be glad the warmer weather is coming........ eventually lol
Tonight we're supposed to get a major snowstorm, but I suppose the snow will be gone by Friday.......

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Susan, my heart goes out to you. I know how frustrated and angry and sad you must feel. Perhaps you should also seek out your pastor and ask for the Church's prayers for you both. Good thoughts, hugs and prayers for you.

Thanks Betty, I am very delighted in Aidan's ingenuity...i do so miss them all. We try to get together about every 18 months or so, either us there or them here.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Jean - the Church knows, and is praying for us.
Sometimes I would like some "real" practical help, but have gotten used to that not happening.
After all, I've reached this age on my own, guess I can get through the rest of my life with emotional support, but not financial.

Lyndonville, NY

Well, it has been a day from hell.

The icing on the cake was the call "Mom, they are taking me to Urgent care, took a spill on my skateboard."

And two hours later "Mom, I broke my arm, the large bone in the forearm. Air cast til I can get to an Ortho tomorrow and have it set. Also a
large abrasion at the wrist so might be an issue."

Sigh.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh no! Hope they can set it with out surgery?

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All ;

Susan - wow that's so difficult.... wish I could think of an answer... saying prayers for you gal....
Jean - what a wonderful Love story ! That's good that you do get to see each other from time to time... Yes - I know folks who think they "wish" they had some drama... Love that clematis... still haven't bought any... we had a few plants crushed with those Tstorms... should be a nice Easter weekend.
LK - Love Orange Rolls !
LOL Betty - consulted my Iphone app... we have "1-3-0" 1 month 3 weeks 0 days till WDW... yes can't wait.
Dianne I agree re: authors... had someone tell me once that authors write till they get famous then they have interns write for them and they take the credit... as long as the book is $old... don't know if that is true, I liked patricia cornwall for a while years ago then her books just got plain weird.
Goodness... I hope Warren's breathing has taken a change for the better. I know, as Debbie knows... that you only shoot the coyotes with "Water Guns" LOL
ended up in a book store today shopping puzzles for Judy for some reason...had Dianne in mind as well...
SUZE lol "neck suga" a good friend of mine uses that too... would say Southern Belle so will have to include Susan as a Southern Belle as well.
Oh Good ness Deb ! Saw FB before here and know you have had another "Day". Hope you got to the Chiro before the word came in on Shane... maybe will keep him quiet for a few days.... "Sigh" - ing for you my dear.....

I dropped by the house today and talked to DS. I thought he would be confrontational but he was absolutely apologetic. He said all the right things. (Hubs believes he is good at that but me....The Mommy just wants to believe it all )

we talked for a long time. I said we want to help you and you can live here 1. be respectful 2. be appreciative 3. Better yourself 4. clean up after yourself. Follow the house rules and we'll be fine.

THEN back to work and when work was over DH Called.... MIL/FIL wanted us to come by. MIL has a cyst on her kidney and surgery coming up. Not sure what the plan will be. doesn't want grand kids to know yet.

I had 2 major coughing attacks while there. I think I now have 'acid reflux'... could that be part of my problem? maybe a side effect from the whooping cough.

I'll pop back in a bit.
Hugs,
Mary

Baton Rouge, LA

'crossed' with LK and Deb....

Verona, ON

LOL Mary "water gun" LOL.... We don't watch Suns of Guns for no reason. Actually I am quite a good shot which baffles both DH and myself as my eyesight is horrible. What DH doesn't know is that I close my eyes when I shoot most of the time. Getting very worried about these coyotes as if they are coming up this early in the year there will be problems in the summer for sure.

Oh Debbie you are sure stuck between a rock and hard place with Shane's injury.Hope things go well for Shane tomorrow when he sees the surgeon. My goodness you must want to throttle him and give him a hug at the same time. Is he coming home for Easter?

Two areas of Hyacinth are out in full bloom. My goodness they are pretty. Wish they lasted through the summer.

((((Susan))))

OK need to go tidy up the kitchen since the good fairy didn't come.
Dianne

Baton Rouge, LA

LOL Dianne ! "The Good Fairy" I remember the "Story of the Brownies".... before Girls Scouts....

If The end of the world ever comes in my lifetime Dianne.. I think I'll be hiking up to your house.... I think somehow you'd be the safest place to be....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, birds are chirping, nice to sit with coffee in hand listening to their chant..could they be excited about the long weekend coming up?

Decided to retire early last last and as I was just going to shut the lights in the kitchen I saw a figure at the door..should say filled the door..it was Kyle..Lordy he's grown...6'2"..stayed and gabbed for over an hour..was nice, don't see him as much as I once did now that he's on co-op.

Mary, sorry to hear about your MIL! Sending prayers for her and hugs for you. Mwonderful that you finally cleared the air with your son. Acid reflux. Hmmm...I will tell you that many years ago when I was recreation co-ordinator I felt I carried the world on my shoulders, was having trouble swallowing, minute I'd eat I felt like gagging, coughing etc. very uncomfortable..my usual way of dealing with stress was migraines..anyway I took a month off, went to Florida and was no sooner there did I have a severe attack..the hospital did a proceedure and told me I should come home and have it dealt with..weren't sure if a growth inmmy throat that could be cancerous..

Home we came, 3 weeks left of our vacation, I was not happy. Sent to a specialist who diagnosed the problem, epiglottis (told me it was similar to a muscle ) the throat would expand and close the passage..for me, was stress related..even today if I'm under a tremendous amount of stress it reacts, some would say it was a good thing, seeing my voice would be lost..so instead of migrains the stress found a new location to come out...

I think perhaps your body Mary is telling you things have to change at work and at home, too much stress...

Omg Debbie, what can I say that hasn't already been said?? Armwraps coming your way! Let's hope the arm can be set today
Without surgery.

Dianne, the news were saying last night that warnings are out near the beaches in Toronto..going to call you Annie oaklie lol

Will respond to who I've missed once I get to work..looking at clock and I'm not even dressed, now on the run

Oh Betty I would be so flattered to be called Annie Oakley. She was my idol when I was a kid. Had a cowgirl outfit, holster with a fancy pistol and a marvelous hat. LOL, LOL, thanks you so much for getting my day off with a chuckle and a warm memory.

Victoria Harbour, ON

sure think you have the personality for it..two peas in a pod they would say!!!

Susan, where are the days when the church would help out?? No family you could call?
Buying that lottery ticket tonight..should be my turn to win right? Then I could help my friends who are struggling out..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just called Greg, asked what he would like on Saturday's menu?? didn't care...asked how he felt if we had chinese but I felt bad not cooking big supper..he said 'it's not about what has been cooked, it's that we are all together and enjoying the day' sooo think I'll call Jeff and see what he thinks..pretty sad when you aren't up to cooking, even for me with my cooking ability.

Hi y'all!
Whew, I was tired last night and didn't get back to post!

Betty, that new flower bed I did in October is doing well. I replaced one of the shrubs I planted with my sweet almond verbena, so now in that bed I have the verbena, a gardenia, a night blooming jasmine, a dif variety of gardenia and then a banana shrub. They're small, yet but oh ... just think of the smells that will come from there. I have another bed he made with a sweet olive and an Abelia. I have a second sweet olive here by my deck ... a gardenia the DH gave me for Mother's Day, 3 dif varieties of jasmines, my lemon tree and a couple of brugs all in my back yard. I've been working on planting fragrant shrubs since I found out about them. LOL

Susan ... {{{ }}}. I'm so sorry you're having to go through these tough times. I've added you to my prayer list.

Oh, Debbie, I'm not beeeelieving this! I'm sending you prayers and extra bubble wrap for him. Please let us know how he's doing when you can.

Mary, those sound like reasonable rules ... Saying prayers for your MIL ...

Annie ...
er Dianne ... how's Warren doing today?
Grin

Okay, Moses is nosing me ... He wants lunch ...

Hello Everyone!!!

I've been working like a banshee!

Debbie my goodness what a mess, glad The Child is able to talk to her big sis and work through her problems that way. Shane Shane Shane, what a typical 18 year old boy, my goodness, I've broken my arms 5 different times roller skating so I can relate.

Betty its not a big deal if you don't want to cook, I love Chinese food so I'll be over.

Susan I have been in those shoes before, OMG not fun, I'm hoping one of you will get a job like tomorrow!

Dianne I hope Warren's doing better today, big big big hugs coming at you sweetie.

SUZE!!!!! So good to see you again!!!

Mary so glad you had that chat with DS, what a tough situation. I hope he follows the rules of the house and doesn't cause anymore riff.

Victoria Harbour, ON

1 1/2, was hoping Paul would have said when he left, 'call it a day' but NOT!!!

Suse, sitting in your gardens would be like visiting a perfume department! I've just marked them all down and will go in search to see if any would survive my gardens, doubtfull on the gardenia and sweet olive ..

Went across the street to pick up something for lunch and did a 'no no' dropping into the garden center..you all know how I love metal art, steel kind, well they had an 8' post that 3 metal canada geese are attached to with a balancing piece of metal that is held by a rock, when a breeze it looks as though they are flying..will look pretty near my pond..no treats for me this upcoming month..will all go to the garden center..when's Mothers' Day???? Great salesman, said the fabricator was bringing 10 mid April and already 8 were sold then no more..fabricator will be spending summer selling up in the Muskoka's where all big mulla is and will be getting tripple for what they are asking..now how could I resist!

Crissy, you know you are always welcome, worse comes to worse you can have poutine from next door...still waiting to hear about your trip to St. Louis??? any photo's

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

g'morning all - I went to Bible Study this am, and spoke to our pastor afterwards. He'd said he'd call our church accountant and see if there was a "benevolent fund" but then almost choked when I told him it was $1600
I just spoke to the utility, and they said the new amount we have to pay is $1891. they've added the new bill onto it, and will now settle for nothing less. They're emailing me the Disconnect, and will extend the cut-off to Next Friday.
