Just went to look at photo's, guess we cannot preview until after the contest? Bev am sure your entries are eye catching as are all your photos
Here goes:
HIGH SCHOOL -- 1958 vs. 2012
Scenario 1:
Jack goes duck hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack.
1958 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.
2012 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counsellors called in for traumatized students and teachers.
Scenario 2:
Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.
1958 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.
2012 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it.
Scenario 3:
Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students.
1958 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal's office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.
2012 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The family gets extra money (SSI) from the government because Jeffrey has a disability.
Scenario 4:
Billy breaks a window in his neighbour's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.
1958 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.
2012- Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse, Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist.
Scenario 5:
Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.
1958 - Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock.
2012- The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons.
Scenario 6:
Pedro fails high school English.
1958 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.
2012 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.
Scenario 7:
Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed.
1958 - Ants die.
2012 - ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents - and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.
Scenario 8:
Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.
1958 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2012 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.
Morning everyone. Susan, I got that in an email a few. Onnthe ago, and yep, I tried it too!
Betty, that is so true, shame the world is acting like this!
Dianne, my girlfriend has a field of lupins, just beautiful to look at..I've several out front but do very poorly at re-seeding themselves..perhaps its the ground..in the fall I saved all the seed and recently replanted..am hoping some will develop into plans..
Cayotes are in search of food, must have been a long winter for them..omg, do you really have a gun (pellet gun?)..don't you be walking those grounds on your own, never know if they are in packs..dangerous for sure!
LindaKay, how is Heather and Dylan doing, will you get to see them at Easter?
Good morning y'all.
Very quiet here..GS is on Spring Break...of to Texas with a couple friends....going to one of the friend's grandparent's ranch for a few days.
Spent a couple hours on Skype with my little Aussie grandbabies. My Daughter sent me this link....6 year old Aidan is on Easter break and decided to do a "science presentation" he asked DD to record it so Grandma would know which "hairballs" were dangerous....grin I surely do miss my little Grands...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFs3HDF4rWU&feature=youtu.be
Hope you all have a lovely day and a smile or two.
Jean
Betty, Dianne has a rifle, and is very safe with them. AND....she is so good to me, when she takes aim she says "DEBBIE...Don't read this". Kauz she knows I will cry for sure!
Loved that hairball video! LOL!
Heather and Dylan are doing good. he still does not want to sleep very much, especially at night, but they are working on his schedule!
Thanks LK...just made me want to jump on a plane....GRIN Good to hear Dylan and Mom are well...guess he thinks he missed something taking so long to get here...grin
Ahhh love Aidan's explanation..internet was slow so had to move the tracking every once in awhile..how serious he is on explaining the good/bad hairballs...lol isn't technology grand..not like it once was, you can keep in daily contact via internet and skype..
Quiet here today..might leave 1/2 hr. early as the nurse will be at the house at 5:30pm for blood/blood pressure and then Ann will come over about 7:30..just went downstairs and got some rub on medication called Voltaren in hope it helps with pain...try anything once!
Oh Debbie, I can just imagine the face you'd make if you thought Dianne would actually shoot something, am sure it's a scare tactic.
LindaKay, difficult for moms dealing with infants who do not want to sleep..likely take a few weeks to get into a routine
Betty - so true re: the 1958 vs 2012 - wish it were that way now, we wouldn't have so much trouble. Especially the English part......
Well, I did it - I FINALLY finished the quilt blocks I got in 2009 from DG friends (and I'd done as many blocks in my 20's - long, long, long time ago - so I added them). The quilt Does Not bear close inspection because of the ones I did yea those many years ago, but here it is!
Hello everyone!!!
Sorry I've been MIA, me and Dave went to St. Louis for vacation last Thursday and got back Sunday evening and I took yesterday off, had a great time!
I'm going to attempt to catch up lol yeah right!
Susan, that quilt is beautiful! Love the blue and white pinwheels!
I like it Betty - and I decided to go with my old blocks because of the memories and the fact that I Can't throw anything out. I no longer have that material, of course, and tearing it out and remaking All my blocks would have been........... tedious, to say the least LOL
I call it my "Remember when" quilt, cuz the blocks were from friends in 2009/2010 and my 20's........ :-)
Crissy - glad you enjoyed your vacation to St. Louis!! Any pictures, for those of us that have never been?
Goodness Susan, it makes a fantastic quilt, now for finishing it, also a tremendous amount of work remains...know how you are feeling, was overwhelming to have all those christmas block from years of swaps just sitting looking pretty..big sigh of relief once they were done into king size quilt for Suzanne..will you quilt or tie?
Crissy, did you do the Arch???? nice to get away..that was quite a trip..did you fly or drive? wish I had of known, would have given you directions forsomewhere to see just on the outskirt of St. Louis
http://www.cahokiamounds.org/
What all did you do?
if you drove, you might have been very close to Bev??

Betty - I don't know what I'll do for quilt vs tie........ think it calls for tie, but I need to learn how to free motion quilt.
I don't have a Long Arm, so I would have to hand quilt - Bob's going to make me a frame, but who knows How Long THAT will take........ he has to get the supplies (we have some in the shed, but he wants to get more).
Hi y'all!!
I'm so sorry I've been MIA for so long. I've just been busy in the garden and with stuff going on. I did go back and try to catch up with everyone.
Congrats first of all to Linda!!! That sure is a *big boy!! LOL
Dianne, I'm glad to see all the wonderful goodies you purchased for Santa Warren. You 2 have continued to be in my thoughts and prayers.
Betty, what are we going to do with you ...
I think I need to send the DG 4X4 to Debbie next time y'all hook up. I'm sure I must have it here at my hous. LOL
Debbie, how's Paul doing now? I'm sorry you're having such a time with your eyes.
Mary, reckon what sort of summer we'll be having? We've had 90's already. How's the witch?
I lost my Grandma on April 4, '96 and on Friday it will be a year since I lost Daddy. I can't believe it's been that long already. My adopted Grandma is in the hospital. She's 88. I went to see her and my Mom on Sunday. I was so glad I got to do that. I went to the cemmotary, and put flowers for Daddy while I was home.
I've got tomatoes planted now and lots of yard work done.
I guess that's about it for me. Hi to everyone that I missed! It's good to be back.
Signed ...
Another idiot ...
Smile
oh Susan - so glad you got to do all that visiting..... it means alot to everyone, yourself included :-)
No, no one's an idiot - just funny peeps!! lol
It's 14c here now........ and only 1pm!! (ie: 57F) It will get warmer within another 2 hours (our hot time of day is 3pm.......)
drats, just wrote an entire booklet welcoming you back, gabbing about those we lost, posted and cyber space it went..
soon time to go home as I have nurse coming at 5:30, then it's t.v. bingo but do hope I can retype my post before bedtime..in the meantime big/big armwraps as Judy would say..
Oh LOL I forgot I'm Suze ... hehehe
And I'm an Idiot because I stuck out my tongue and looked up. Grin
Thanks for the welcome back, and the armwraps. I needed them right now.
The desk top died, but the DH called and said it was the power supply. He'll be bringing it home all better.
I'm thankful for good friends and my computer. I hope it's ok to be thankful for that, but I couldn't afford a new one right now. I have this lap top, but all my stuff is on that desk top!
Will BBL. I'm baking a spaghetti squash for supper and need to figure out what else I'm having. My recipe is on that desk top!! LOL
Betty- you have a nurse coming at 5:30??? What's that about?
Suze - ((((((Big Hugs))))))
Susan, she has a nurse come to the house to check her blood pressure!
Betty, good luck on the bingo!
Watching the news, and there are bad storms with tornado's hitting the Dallas area! Lots of damage. One touching down as I type! Praying the all take cover and stay safe!
ah - I must have missed that "nurse" thing in a previous posting..........
I join my prayers with yours LK - sure hope the Dallas area residents are safe
Linda Kay, you doing alright? Watching the news is scary as anything!
LindaKay, heard the news on my way home tonight that Dallas and other parts of Texas are being hit....hope you are safe...is it not early for tornado??
Nurse has been, took blood/urine/blood pressure..pressure was 136 or 137/70 (drats can't remember and it was only minutes ago) lol... Sooo I believe that reading is good, meds must be working.
Not going to do bingo tonight..boiling bath and drugs are in order. Might get a bunch of gardening magazines and leaf through them as i am looking for a few gardening ideas.
Debbie, what have you been up to today? Hope eyes are improving.
Will charge the batteries in my camera so I can post photo's of my little elf...
Suse, big smile seeing your post..have missed you.wonderful that someone set you up on the computer again.. Wonderful that you were able to visit your mom and put flowers at your dad's grave site. Really does make you feel at peace visiting and talking with those who have passed on. My boys can't quite understand why I'm the keeper of the gravesides, grandparents/aunts/uncles/hubby, dad...seems few visit graveyards anymore..I try for birthdays/Mother's day, fathers day etc. think cousins depending my going.
You have such luck with your tomatoes, likely because of the framing system your hubby made...keep thinking I should find a corner to plant some along with beans and cucumbers..but then, don't want to give up some flowers.
Drats, it's only 6:30
No storms here, they are 8 hours away from here, to the North East! 12 so far have touched down over there!
Yikes!!
MaryAnn is adorable..she plays ig sister well
Now I knew Dylan would be special..Elvis smile for sure. Lol
Just getting ready to call it a night..omg, took pain killer, wanted to try the new pain relied salve but how do you get it down I to shoulder blades?? Found a new spatula I've never used, coated with salve and buttered my back..now if it works I'll be in business
Night/night
hahahaha Betty - great idea to use the new spatula!! Can't use a backscrubber, for sure!
Betty - on another thread I mentioned You and how you'd love that Elvis smile!! I sure was right, eh?
It got to 16c today! :-)
Betty I highly recommend the Voltaren. I use it daily - if nothing else it is very soothing.
LK - great pics of Dylan and his big sis.Hope you are safe from the tornadoes.
Betty, did you win tonight?
Hello to All !
What a treat to jump on the night shift and find you all chit chatting away... (I TOO am an IDIOT!) LOL
Suze - the witchypoo has been relatively tame since we lost those 2 gals.... I say that and knock on wood. Suze - I need another book to read ? Or Dianne should I read Catch me" ? Is it fiction? I don't do well with non fiction.
Jean - O.M.G. Precious too precious ! Love his little accent ! how did they end up so far? or did you end up over here and far?
Susan - quilt is gorgeous !
Betty & Dianne too funny that I spent $$ and bought "a" lupine and ya'll have fields of them.... great idea to protect them and all... of course they volunteered in a spot where they for sure got stepped on by Belle. I'm going to try to collect the seeds and grow from seed.
I did not know they come in other colors, mine are blue ?
We had violent Tstorms with hail yesterday... didn't get out in the yard till late today but thank goodness hubs tried to salvage before I got out there... Tstorms continuing.... so I hope they aren't as bad....crushing the new plants....
Dianne love the pressies for Warren! Are they all expected or a surprise ?
Debbie - hoping you had a GOOD Day.....
Waving to Thunder and Judy.... etc....
(HUGS)
Mary
Hi all,
Suze!!! So happy to see you back! What a hard time of year with the "anniversary" dates. Glad you went and put flowers on your Daddys resting place.
I am making a spring wreath for my Moms and just can't make up my mind. How is Moses doing? Sure have missed you! How is your wonderful hubby doing?
We have had so much drama here the last couple days, I just really need a drama free zone. Tonight, I think it caught up to me, zonked on the couch and woke up miserable on the verge of tears. Just over tired I am sure!
Mary I am looking for a new book also. Finished Nicholas Sparks "The Best of me". Was a bit disappointed as I figured it out way before I was done, then I got upset when I was right.
Still quite chilly here....lots of running to do tomorrow and I really just want to stay home. Not happening! lol
Debbie

Look at all the pretty colors, lupines comes in.
WOW and WOW LK ! Wonder why you only see in blue here? Maybe because they seem to have a short life cycle...
I'll for sure try to get some other colors one day....
Debbie - Nicholas Sparks did the SAME for me... enjoyed some books but too predictable. And was loving Nicholas Evans more at the time.... An animal lover... maybe you might like his? "The Loop" "The Horse Whisperer" ? but maybe you won't because of the "other" side of the stories....
Evans has some loser books too... guess they can't all be consistently excellent like Paul Fleischman (ROFLOL!) (just kidding some of his weren't favorites either)
We've had NO drama lately because 1. DS and I still are NOT Talking (I'm waiting for his apology). 2. DS1 is still at school...her spring break is NEXT week unlike the other two. 3. DS2 went to visit Biomom.
Will take No drama any day even if I'm just postponing it.....
Hugs
Mary
Mary, I have read the Horse Whisperer, I get so emotional with animal stories. My Nook has a "call B&N for service" on it, so don't know whats wrong, but there are about 80 new books on there if I can get it working. MIL gave me a few reads that are all romance, but by an author I have read lots of. (Linda Lael Miller).
Isn't your Disney trip coming up Mary?
ah yes, Mary - I keep telling members of my family that they have it nice and calm. When I would chat with my brother and ask how things were he'd say "same old, same old - nothing ever changes" I'd tell him he was lucky - always seems to be drama-filled around here.
And everyone here knows what I mean - no jobs, knowing the City will move us, etc etc.......
I pray for those who are suffering loss, health problems, etc and then realize I'm doing "ok"
Hey Night Gals (GOWLS) Gals + Owls LOL
Yes Susan - great outlook.. "there but for the grace of God go I".... I know it will hit the fan soon with DS or perhaps he will just give an acceptable apology and we'll be done with it.
I can't let it go on much longer though.
1-3-1 Debbie ! LOL. According to the WDW Counter on my phone... 1 month, 3 weeks, 1 day!
I actually liked "The Loop" better than whisperer but it sounds like you have a huge selection from MIL.
I'm not even sure I need to be reading right now... I LOVE to eat and read and trying to lose some lbs for the vacation....so might be counter productive.
How is The Child doing? was her new job a good move for her ?
Hugs,
Mary
Oh Mary, I didn't put on here about the new job for "the child". SO much drama...so much growing up and "eating crow". Long story short....she goes back to her "old" job tomorrow. The new one was just not cut out for her, she realized it within the first two hours, and thankfully talked to her big sister and I about it before got in too deep.
DS is in deep doodoo too. A school prank turned into a big mess, he was not part of the bad issue...but was blamed for it. Had his first "conference" with a Sheriff, and long story short yet again...they were able to pull up security cams and see DS throwing water balloons, NOT the other damaging issues that happened while he and roommates were at the movies. Praying he learned something out of this.
