Best/Worse/What did I learn today? a visit with friends!!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

aha knew that Lexi had been hiding..........!!
Ann & Darlene will be having a tough time, and it would be hard to wish a Happy Birthday to Darlene - I agree.........

Victoria Harbour, ON

Great news Debbie, Lexi just needed time out from all the other furries..think it's time for a coffee and sit on the front deck and listen to the birdies sing!!

I think back of the trauma I had dealing with hubby's death and how each day seemed to take all the energy I had within just to survive, got to wonder how I made it..know it is in good part not closing myself from friends who wanted so desperately to be there for me even though I didn't know it was what save the day.

Lexington Park, MD

Goodmorning to all. Ohh how exciting LK. Dylan will be here soon.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Good Morning Everyone!!!

Debbie so glad Lexi is found!

It would be hard to tell Darlene Happy Birthday but it's better than not saying anything at all. Poor Ann, my goodness hope she's been to the doctor!

LK glad she's been induced and water broke, this has gone on too long!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, now that you are caught up at work it will be nice chatting with you more..what wild and exciting thing did you do this past weekend?

Lyndonville, NY

I agree with Crissy...it would be hard for Darlene, BUT it needs to be done. Don't ignore it...its the "elephant" in the room issue. Celebrate her birthday and friendship...so she knows she is loved, and you treasure her.

Oh Betty don't get me started. lol We went out for St. Patricks Day party of course, but Dave was gone fishing Friday and didn't get home until Saturday at 4pm, so he was ready to go home at 11pm, which was fine with me. After he got all rested he decided yesterday that he was going to burn, all fine and good except we had wind gusts up to 15mph. He lit a huge area, more than what one person could ever take care of, need more like 3 or 4 people, well it was ok until a neighbor showed up and started talking. Since Dave can't work and talk at the same time, the fire got out of hand and it started to burn down the hill where there are tons of dry leaves and forest. I started yelling that it's out of it's parameters and he said he needed help on the hill. Well his help on the hill became me working on the hill and the hose wouldn't reach where it was burning so I had to carry 5 gallon buckets of water from on top the hill, and down, and let me tell you this isn't a little hill, it's steep and goes down probably a half mile, it burned about 1/4 the way down this thing. Then after I got the back contained, took about 30-45 minutes, he hooked both hoses together and I worked on the side where he had been working. No hill there but there are tons of very thorny vines. When he had decided that he had done enough he shut the garage door and went inside! I threw a fit!!!! Not a good day. I had just had a shower and was headed to the store, so I was in shorts and flip flops and I am tore up big time, and I can still smell the smoke in my hair. I did end up going to the store though LOL

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - maybe you could invite Debbie's Lexi to sit with you to listen to the birdies sing? Or maybe you meant it's time for Debbie to do so? Then Lexi Surely could join her LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Crissy, you hear of wildfires caused by such things...heart just a beating here thinking what could have happened..should you not have called the fire department just incase..when I was at the farm something similar happened, got the fire out but lordy it had gone underground and burnt some trees, lucky by then it was early morning and we were able to put it out.

wow quite the experience, bet your adrenaline was high as well as your temper!

glad it ended well.

Went to the garden gallery last week and bought a specialty bird feeder forher..she has company till mid afternoon, I'd drive over but think she will be tired after being busy all weekend so I'll set it on the table for when she comes painting tomorrow.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

oooooh Crissy - how nasty of Dave, leaving you to deal with His fire!
Make sure the ground is soaked well, cuz sometimes the fire goes underground and it slowly burns until it suddenly flares up when you least expect it! Tell Dave to "go soak your head" at the same time LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

lol Susan, meant Debbie after her experience of this morning should just enjoy the day, sit and hear the birdies sing..cut lip and fretting is definately not a good way of starting the day...

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - two great minds with one great thought - cross posted!!
Get the underground fire out, Crissy!!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

lol - can we stop cross posting, or shall we continue the fun??

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Debbie you have had quite the Monday! OMG fat lips are no fun!

Yeah he doesn't understand how hot spots work, and thinks he does. He's way way too arrogant lately for his own good.

mulege, Mexico

Things are quiet here. Tony and I are continuing work on the kitchen counters.

Haven't seen Dana in a week. I know you all are right and i need to let go of her. One day it's hugs and dhow much she likes me, then she turns her back on me. Literally. I took a walk with friend Barbara who lives just up the hill. I dont'see her much but we had a good talk. She has a new puppy, fourteen weeks old. Barbara has also had problems with Dana and her husband Tom. The two of them just keep stepping on toes. Dana's mother will be visiting this week which will add even more stress.

Chocolate the cat has been gone for a couple of days. Nothing to do but hope he comes back. He spends most of his time in my outdoor plant room which the dogs cannot get into. They caught him outside of it and it was lucky that I was there and heard the fuss as all five dogs were on him and he could not have survived if i hadn't been there.

I'm so grateful to be retired and not to have supervisors to deal with. I still have the occasional flashback. In the agency where I was a child welfare worker and good friend and i theorized that anyone who became a supervisor was required to gedt a lobotomy. Tyranny of the stupids.

I'm struggling with lots of physical pain. Left knee and right shoulder mostly. sometimes it sems like everything hurts. I've been able to work outside for a couple of hours a day. Did both laundry and dishes yesterday and repotted a lot of mini roses. Also got some containers for the new garden painted. The problem with being in a lot of pain and depressed it that I feel like I'm not getting anything done even when I am.

Our weather is a little chillier than I'd like but clear and beautiful. Plants in the new garden are coming up, Tony has been planting things so we will soon have lots of vegetables.

A note on the Dana situation, I feel guilty for not being able to maintain a relationship with her. This hot and cold stuff really gets to me. Among other things, her husband is not aging well and it's stressing her. However, I do not do well as taking the brunt of her problems with him. I'm just keeping away from her while being sure to keep up or increase my good relationships. I do like her and that makes it harder to watch her self destruct but it's what I have to do.

Antonio is still working on my computer. I do miss having one at home.

hugs, katie

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Katie Big Big Hugs, don't feel guilty about Dana, she's not a friend at all, friends don't cause friends stress, we're there to talk to each other, not at each other. My mom had the same thing happen with her husbands cousins and aunt, she thought she was moving to Oklahoma City to be with a nice caring family, she ended up with a very selfish greedy family who only calls when they want something, so they're moving back to California when they get their house sold. You just have to wash your hands of it and be relieved that you no longer have to deal with the not needed stress.

Verona, ON

Hope everyone has a gorgeous day as we have here in Verona. Another shorts and sleeveless T day! It is warm enough if the ice was out of the lake I would actually take a quick dip. Cold, cold water does not bother me when I swim. I spent my summers swimming in Lake Huron and that lake only warms up for 1 week in August before it starts to chill down again. Right Betty?

Lots of surprises in the garden popping up. Will try and walk Warren around the flower beds again this afternoon. Many of my tulips are about 2 in out of the soil so I raked back the leaves over them so the sun could get in. Have crocus, snowdrops and heavens even my lavender is growing.None of my poppies or day lilies are showing themselves though.

Linda Kay you are going to be as tired as Heather at the end of the day. Come on Dylan get out here so all your aunts can whoop and shout your arrival.

So happy Lexie turned up. The little scamp.

Going to go outside and work a bit - following Betty's schedule a little time outside, a longer time resting up before I go out again.

Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just back from lunch, another hour and homeward bound. Suzanne was not in today so lunch was quick and into a little variety store to look at magazines, nothing much that I'd pay the $$$ for in either quilting/gardening but I did find the addition to Old Farmer's Almanac "All-seasons Garden Guide..how to cultivate wildflowers, liven up with 20 artsy inspirations, pot a sald bar and pruning..that should entertain myself for an hour..also had the 12 best tomato tips..did step outside at lunch..omg it's like going outside in July..everyone is talking about it..should have actually pick up the 2012 Farmers Almanac and see what they have to say..do any of you go by it?

Dianne, glad you are also doing short time spots in the garden, we're about a month at least ahead of ourselves so no rush. One of my lavender plants is doing great, other two not, I cut them down old growth, do you do same?Snowdrops have done well, tulip leaves just breaking ground. Not a bulb person, can't expect to have a lot showing when none are planted lol

Sunshine will do Warren some good..I'm sure even sitting watching you work the gardens will give him some enjoyment. omg, lake/bays have to be swimming pool warm before I attempt to swim..how brave you are!

I think Dylan will wait until just after midnight..a March 20th birthday for him.Bet LindaKay is exhausted by now.

Crissy know there was talk about your mom and step father moving back to California, so they have decided?? how has she been feeling lately. My mom is still bedridden since her fall, must be bad because they haven't even made it to the cottage the last 3 weeks.

Hard times Katie, best set it aside and enjoy those who treat you with kindness and respect. Poor kittie, seems they are all off doing their own thing today, watch the flashlight while going in search, no fat lip for you like Debbie just had..

Off to read

Dylan Marley Grunow arrived at 2:42, he weighed 10 pounds even, he is 21.75 inches long! He is so handsome! My son will post a picture on Facebook page soon. I will post here as soon as I can!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Congratulations are in order LindaKay..omg he is a big boy!! Mother and baby doing ok? Know a grandmother that will sleep well tonight..can't wait for the pictures... how exciting to have a newborn in the family! We share here right? ok maybe not grandmothers but we could be aunties..

Hmmmm Almanac has under March 20
Vernal Equinox

As the wind and weather at the equinoxes, so will they be for the next 3 months..wow, does that mean no more snow, nice weather ahead??

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

YEAH LK!!! I hope she didn't have to have a c-section. Glad everyone is doing good!!!

That Almanac was aaaaaallllllll kinds of wrong for our winter, said it was going to be colder than normal, much like 2010/2011 winter, but more ice than snow. 2011/2012 winter we got 1/2" of snow at the beginning of November 2011 and nothing since.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Everyone is doing fine, lots of smooches for all!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Congratulations Grandma. That boy is nearly big enough to help you in the garden. GRIN Good that all are well and Master Dylan has finally put in an appearance. Be safe and Heaven watch over you all.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

(((((((((((Katie)))))))))))) Dana does not need to "dump" on you and stress you out. There's no excuse for her being a "bad friend" just because of Her situation.

Glad to hear your garden is starting to sprout! Sure hope your computer is fixed soon.......

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

wow - 10 lbs IS a big boy......
mind you, my son was 9 lb 11, and then got to be a string bean lol Same length as your Dylan, too. I think at 18 he was 5'10, and 120 lbs!!
Congratulations Grandma Linda Kay!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jean, news/weather just said you guys broke major weather records today..we get to do same in the next two !

News is on, say USA housing sector shows growth, that is good for employment I hope. Any sign of improvement has to be good news.

Don't see signs of my young landscaper..maybe $20 was all he needed. Lol

Off I go, gardens call, no more than 1/2 hour

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Susan I've been wanting to say all day and keep getting interrupted before I can get it out, congrats on the library AND and thank you from your Pastor!!

Betty everyone is breaking weather temp records, it's crazy. Chicago is way way above normal, it's as warm up there is it is down here!

Victoria Harbour, ON

My landscaper is out riding his bike..Michelle will tell him I'm looking for him...probably another 10 loads of leaves to be dumped, maybe an hours worth of work but the main thing I want to do is explain to him that when you take on a job, unless you advise that you only want 2 or 3 hours that you must finish the job otherwise even though you are a great worker you will get known as not finishing the job. Am I right?? Sometimes I think I'm too old fashioned .

Got a birds nest happening somewhere inside back deck roof..have to take a look and see what can be done...omg don't laugh, remember I said just how the birds were chirping?? Much of the chirping from my pretend birds in the cages on back deck..losing it I am. Lol. Nobody tell my boys, they are sure to put me away!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Record breaking temperatures for warmth for all over the world....and still folks say Global Warming is a myth....TSKTSK....

Lyndonville, NY

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, because of the kitties I cannot have a birdie..a few years ago I bought a couple of chirper (battery operated) chirp with any kind of motion..usually kitties activate them, batteries usually die over winter time but not this year..

Waiting for photo!!
