Best/Worse/What did I learn today? a visit with friends!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I had the cataloguing done, Mary, then had to put all the books in order so we could shelve them.......... siiiiiiiiigh JUST finished the rest of the shelving, then putting them all in order on the shelves..... LOL There are around 700+ books..... so I made a few mistakes on the labelling (where it should have been 284.1092 I put 248.1092 on a few books LOL) Well, I'm hoping people will let me know if they see "errors" and they can be fixed. At midnight some nights I was getting a little tired and I suppose, looking back on it, I should have left it for another day, but didn't know what Time I Had to do this.

oh Debbie - larger than a 2x4!!! Yikes - remind me never to get on your "bad" side LOL

(((((((((((((All)))))))))))))))

Baton Rouge, LA

OMG DEb ! The only answer to that is "Paul.... YOU May Kiss my A##*(& NOW !"

LOL... hope it gets better.... Wondering if it is a good thing to hope that you are able to get away from the house a bit tomorrow....

Too funny.... I had an email to sign up for the LSU Garden show next weekend to help out the club. So I signed up for 2-4p Saturday.

I just realized I signed up to help the KOI/Pond club ... which I do NOT belong to! Not the Hibiscus club... which I meant to do.... LOL

Anyway - Jean - if you are at the LSU show... please drop by the Hibiscus booth... 2p-4p Sat and I'll be there. Will have to bow out of the club I signed up for and don't belong to

Baton Rouge, LA

OH Susan ! I'd be logging them in as248.1092 A , B , C, LOL....

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I do, Mary - 284.1092 is Biography, then followed by 1st 3 letters of the author's last name - hence, 284.1092.GRA for Billy Graham's biography........
Oh, I know, you were just teasing, but I sure couldn't put a "children's fiction" book in with Dear Billy's biography now, could I LOL
LOL

Pacifica, CA

oh linda kay,
thoughts and prayers are with you big hugs your way

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Mary - I'd love to visit you at the Hibiscus booth too........... love 'em! They're beautiful! So regal

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, Happy St.Patrick's day!!!

fog is lifting, birds are chirping and I'm taking a quick break, soon I'll be able to cross Julie's SG piece of blackboard list of to do's!

Lindakay, thinking of you this morning..what a roller coaster ride these past few days have been, the upcoming birth of your grandson and the possible loss of Karoosh..hugs going your way!

Mary, what a terrible thing for someone in her position to come out with..no wonder moral is at its lowest..Think all should have banded together and walked out saying 'we'll save you the firing, we quit'. Then what would the management have thought of her antics?? At some point you will all have to take a stand in order to keep your sanity...

Jean, wouldn't it be grand if you did make it to Mary's booth.
Oh Mary, you best read what you volunteer for, could really get you into mega trouble. Lol

Liz, have you heard any more news on how Judy is doing? What are you and Kenny up to these days?

Dianne/Warren ( huggggs) coming your way.

Susan, what an undertaking doing the books..have you researched a librarian job?

Glad Debbie that Paul is healing. If you post photo's of your steps and a plank is missing we will have a good idea of where it went. Lol

Last night Michelle's young som, about 10 knocked at the door, wanted to know if I was in need of a handyman, any house work or outside work needing to be done?? Said he is a good worker ( also has asperghers syndrome). Told him to come this mornimgmandmi had work for him..best get dressed and ready because if he is anything like Kylemhe will be at the door any minute..

Back on next break

Little helper just arrived, said he had his landscaping duds on including rubber work boots..asked him what he was expecting pay wise..needs to work enough to earn last $15.00 for the bike he is purchasing from a friend..he has saved for months now with nice weather he would like the bike to ride with friends soooo off to an hour or so of work..damp from fog, I'd best dress warmly lol

Lexington Park, MD

Betty that is great you have a helper and assertive enough to earn his own money. Do not see that around here much. DH ready to go .......great day to all

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

A lovely St Paddy's to you all. I hope all of your gardens decide to do do a bit of "Wearing o'the green".

Betty, it is really foggy here this morning too. Kudos to the young man...I hope he worked well for you. Folks are starting him out right.

Mary, sounds like your boss attended the Jindal school of management...which I think was originally started by the red queen in Alice in wonderland....Off with their heads....oughta post a sign..."Creatures are more productive when feed honey as opposed to Pi*s and vinegar"

Sounds like you live closer to White Oak than Shenandoah....here I can almost see Bayou Manchac and Muddy Creek from my yard. As for LSU AG Show...if I can get out of going to Thibodaux on Saturday I will certainly try to catch you between 2 and 4 at the Hibiscus booth.

Good thoughts to you all

Victoria Harbour, ON

He certainly is assertive and a hard worker..had to come in for quick break!! Tiring me out

We've co e to an agreement pay wise he wanted $5.00 and I negotiated $7.00. Lol. Don't I know how to bring cost down..

Wants to get all the gardens raked, told hom I'd cut spent flower stalks, do the shrubs..I'm in looking for a little book, he's going to keep track of hours and come do work over next few weeks..said I trust him with his keeping track of hours..don't kowmhow many times he told me all the treats I've provided him and local kids..I,e. when they helped hold big picture frame in cement, when I called a group off street to help me with gazebo, pop for helping with canvas room..thinks I'm cool, loves working with me, I'm fun..now doesn't this kid know how to get 7.00 when asking $5.00. Lol

Back with juice

Betty, glad to hear you have a helper, willing to work for his money!

Kooshy has crossed over that rainbo bridge, he went very peacefully!

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay am sure you are having mixed emotions, wanting to keep him this side of the bridge and yet knowing it is the best for him! Was he the only pet?

Wow, did 2 1/4 hrs of hard layout..trying to keep up to..his name is also Noah, must say he is a sweetheart..told me after he pays for his bike he will come and help for free..told him absolutely not and not to shortchange himself...he is a hard worker and thus he deserves pay for value..appreciated it..we talked the entire time, can you believe I'm talked out..told me I had a lot of energy..lol. Sooo it's been an enjoyable mornimg..now 10 more gardens to rake then I can start weeding..wonder when the snow will come..amazing how much growth there is already..

Can't sit or I'll become lazy!

What are you all doing today?

Lexington Park, MD

Just back from library book sale. Great books and prices. Now going to bike safety for DD#2 and then soccer for little man. Sunny and70.

Lyndonville, NY

I am sittin outside watching a few birds. DH is watching a steve martin movie marathon, should have kicked myself getting all those movies! lol But at least he is quiet.

So happy you have a young helper. Good thing, he might keep an eye on you. Once word gets around you will have a line of youngsters looking for work.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lol, he is Bernice's grandson..son of Michelle, remember his dad was electrocuted working a few years ago?? His paternal father came from a family of high end landscaping.. I was quite amazed at his knowledge,,did have one problem, what language do this kids talk??

Head started to pund, will rest for an hour

Have fun Laura..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Where is you all. Lol

(((((((((((((LK))))))))))))

Well, busy day today - got up at 7:30, made a 9x13 sheet of bannock for a presentation this am, then did said presentation on Glacier National Park. After I did all the research for it, I found:
1. there were 150 glaciers in the mid 19th cent, and as of 2010 there are only 25 in the park.
2. By 2020 they expect there will be NO glaciers in the park - what will they call it then - Glacier-less national park?
3. In 2003, 10% of the park was destroyed by a fire - 136,000 acres!
4. Although there are glaciers in Glacier National Park, just across the border into Alberta at Waterton National Park there are no glaciers.

It's amazing what you learn when you have to present something!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I's here, Betty!
Just edited some minutes of our board meeting, now going to print a certificate for a former board member giving her Lifetime Board Membership status. She's in a Senior facility and can no longer attend board meetings, but she's been part of the church for over 40 years. She's put in a lot of service on the church - being caretaker and property manager, etc, etc.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now that is interested Susan..shows how Mother Nature is making changes..doubtful they are good ones..

Oh she will so love to get the Award..doesn't hurt to take the time to do the certificate but will make the world of difference to her!

Cathy just left..I was just putting was on SG piece, chatted gor a few minutes and she is off to the Legion for a green beer with friends..seeing I never ever drank a beer I opted to stay home...guess I'm just tired. Din/din will come from the restaurant next door.

Sure is beautiful outside..so want to go out and do that little bit more but saying no to myself!

Trying to figure out what I can entertain myself with tonight that I can do sitting on the couch..hmmm not sure.

Do want to make a small stained glass piece, funky using leftover cuts from the last 3 pieces...could foil..wonder what I could design to use the pieces and still good enough to give away??

Mind too active..whatever I do must calm me down. Lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am here too Betty, went to Wal Mart for a few things, and I finally got the baby blanket done. Pictures shows it to be more blue than it is, it is really a green/teal color.

Betty - Thelma is the lady who was robbed in the street, going from the church to her home - a matter of 10 blocks. She used to clean the church (by herself!) and left it clean enough to eat off the floors apparently. She'd stopped that by the time I joined. All I know is........ you sure wouldn't want to do so now!! She also used to carry pies to the church (5 at a time), walking - she was a real trooper, right up to the time when she was robbed. She didn't change her locks, and her house keys were in the purse that was stolen. Within a couple of months, the same robber came into her house while she was home, and flashed a knife at her. She wasn't the same after the first attack, and was afraid in her own home after the 2nd. Within a year she'd sold her home and went into the Senior's facility. Her family strongly suggested it. It really was the best thing for her, although it was hard to give up her independence and her home............ But she really is happier now. She's in her mid-eighties.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

LK - that is a great looking baby blanket!
The colours are the same ones I'm using to make a lap quilt for my friend's wife! As soon as I finish his, that is LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Susan, what a frightful thing to happen, hopefully the Lord will look after that sick man. Similar thing happened in my neck to the woods when I lived on the lake. Elderly lady ran several rental cottages and a store, if I looked to the tip front right to the tip of the bay it was her lodge..she rented to same fellows for about 15 years, this one year the guys invited a few friends, they fished all day, drank, played cards..washrooms were outside, one of the new men went missing, after some time they found him..he had gone into the lodge, beaten and raped mrs. Sheffield, she was in her mid 80's, think he in his 30's..she almost lst her life..shortly after she sold the lodge, moved into a home and died before court case came up..think he got off with slap on the hand because she wasn't there to testify..hoping he gets to shovel coal in hell!!

LindaKay was that the fabric you just won?? Lovely..our Dylan will be one spoilt baby. How are you doing today??

Jeff just called..told him his sg piece was done..we will get together at some point so I can hand it over..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - the young man was in his early 20's, and came from behind knocking her down, stole her purse and ran. They didn't catch him. She had a lot of $$ in her purse and she didn't usually carry that much. I didn't hear all the details, cuz she was trying to keep it quiet - every time she thought of it, it upset her and she relived the moments.
Other than him letting himself into her home and showing a knife to her I don't know the details of it either - she's a private person and again - didn't want to relive it.
Victims often get "re-victimized" after such assaults........ Even going to court does the same! I'm not sure Thelma saw his face the first time as it was from behind, and she may have "blocked it out" the 2nd time......

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, you going to show us your stained glass? Would love to see the finished piece?

I am doing OK, just a hard day, with out Karoosh here! hard to break old habits I guess, but tomorrow I will be in San Antonio, and waiting for Dylan to arrive. As soon as I can get to a computer, I will let everyone know when he arrives!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yaaaaaaaaaaaay - we will happily welcome Dylan to the world of grandma and all his family and friends!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Omg someone give me a smack..went to clean off the table where I was working, don't want kitties in cards of glass, picked up pieces, linear, angular all left from the other pieces and though if I did like quilting and just make a collage of random pieces ie crazy quilt I'm sure someone would take it home and I'd not have to throw them out.

I'm sure LindaKay there will be many a day that you go to feed, get ready for walking him...I'll miss sailor laying alongside my bed..I often listen to the deep breathing, makes one feel less alone.

Yes, will take a photo and show you..again adding the hearts ruined the piece in my opinion...

Susan, you and congregation are doing a wonderful thing..will someone bring her to the church to get the award?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

No, Betty - there is going to be (as of 1st Wed of April) a Church service once a month at the Senior's facility she's at.
Our pastor currently goes to one down the street from me, and now he'll add another facility where he'll hold services (in addition to the one he holds every Sunday at our church, of course!).
He will present the award to her on April 4th, at the service. As she was such a pillar of our church, I'm sure she's going to be one at the facility - I can just hear her with the residents now - "you sure Will go to church!! If I can, YOU can!!" LOL she's not a shy person LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, don't throw that glass away! I like the sunds of a crazy quilt collage!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Me too - isn't that what the original stained glass windows were, before they became pictures - just pretty crazy quilt patterns?

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All ;

LK - hoping Dylan comes soon... Betty - me thinks you enjoyed helper Noah as much as he en joyed helping you ! I need a youngster like that !
LOL Susan... Billy Graham next to Billy Goats Gruff ! Yes - come visit me for the LSU Ag show.... Hope Jean can make it but I'm thinking she will be headed to Thibodaux....

I played in the yard most of the day....planted some more of the swap plants and some marigolds/portulaca's. Got a seed tray I got for Christmas all ready... then couldn't find the seeds ! :(

Hopefully will get as much done tomorrow.....

Hugs to all,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Doing the happy dance, Judy just called, yikes we must have talked over an hour..in fact called three times.

She sure does miss you all!!

I've loads to tell you about..she says it's ok to update you..

But I'm yawning away, way past my bedtime so off I go

Do hope you've had sunshine in your life...

Big hugs coming from Judy...

Night/night

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary you've had a productive day as well...usually I'm jealous of your weather and what you can get done in the gardens, well I thank you for sending sunshine my way...love portulaga. good therapy as well. Checked my lottery ticket this mornimg, no win, so had hoped I would, you would ot be going back to work with witchypoo..

Lyndonville, NY

Well, how do you like that. Tells us she hears from Judy, there is all kinds of news....then she leaves us hanging until morning. Hmmpfff!

I am still kicking, my eyes are so so sensitive, but dealing with it all. DH is on the mend, went a bit without crutches...which was OK by doctor after 48 hours. Just short areas in the house. I think he is in the same situation I was with my shoulder. It hurt so much BEFORE surgery, that the surgical procedure was "nothing" and feels better. Did tell him he needs to slow down.

Tomorrow will be busy. Have to run DS back up to school. He is bugging to take a car and drive himself. No way in HE**** thats going to happen.

Enjoyed the older DD & joe today, they stopped in and had pizza with us for dinner. Haven't seen Joe since Christmas with his travels for work. The Child stopped in for a bit also....brought me a bottle of RC...so she is in good graces for now! lol Needed her brother to work on her computer and TV.

Mary how are things there? I want to get out in the yard so badly with a rake. Everyone is saying NO WAY...it will snow.

LindaKay, how are you doing? Such a sad thing with Kaoosh.....and yet happy with a new life Dylan on his way. Just can't wait for pictures. Can't even remember last time I held a baby.

Waving to everyone...not supposed to be on here but I am so so bored.

Baton Rouge, LA

LOL Betty --- WOW wonder how fast I'd quit if I won the lottery ! PLUS I could make the Sistah's gathering ! Best I go buy a ticket huh !

Glad you got good weather too... always unsure whether or not I should mention if I got to "play" almost took a pic of the "Smiley Face Hibiscus" flower I had today but did not...but it was soooo pretty.....biggest one on that plant yet....

I know there is a "payoff" however and that is our 100*+ weather in July.... not many can take it..... just like I could not function in your snow....

Don't know how ya'll do that.... Anyway... will try to thin out canna's tomorrow... save some for the April swap (Hubs can't believe they want cannas... he wants to mow over them) and I have not forgotten my promise to send to Deb... although I'm thinking it would be best to pot them up and wait... probably too early for her...

What plans do you have for tomorrow Betty ? And our other Night Owls?

Hugs,Mary

Baton Rouge, LA

AH! My Sis Deb... we "crossed" !

Will it be nice to get out of the house and drive Shane tomorrow ? 2+ hours away from DH... although it sounds like he has been a good patient today....

Yes - it still is early for us as well....but went to the nursery today and it's Hoppin'... so just figured it's not gonna freeze again.....We shall see...

DS and I are still "Not talking" to each other. I think I have the upper hand though. Last night he left and I'm in the back yard ... he walks to the gate (a safe distance away) and says "Do me a favor Mom... text me Grandpa's number" and walks off.

I know it is to Thank my Dad for the bday card/check.... normally I'd do this... excited that he will call... BUT now? Nope! I do NOT owe him any favors until he apologizes.

I'm hoping it comes soon..... I think it will

So glad the "Child" dropped in... The RC is a telling thing... RC=olive branch... hoping...

(HUGS)
Mary

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Yeah, what's up with that, Betty - leaving us hanging?!?! lol hmpff Indeed!! lol Well, we'll just have to take a page from LK's "book" and be patient! siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!!!!!

Mary - I agree - you don't owe him any favours, so "texting him grandpa's ph#" is a favour, right? lol Silly DS!!!

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, I agree...BUT...texting that to him, might be an "open door" for him to say "Oh by the way, I have been a jerk". DS does that to me when he is afraid to talk face to face (we both tend to get emotional) but I agree...some things need face to face.

I have some holly hocks to plan, but need to rake out gardens first....I can get down to dig..but getting back up is another thing. LOL I might just take the walker out with me to use to "stand" up again.

My problem with DH is.....we had another issue with DS. We talked about it, DH & I. BUT the time came to talk to DS...and he left me hanging. Pretty much "throw Mom in front of the train" issue....and I didn't bite. He will NOT step up to bat to discipline or anything....and he puts me as the bad guy all the time. Right now, I am just so upset with him. I have dealt with this for over 20 years....and I know he wont change now, but I am in a spot where.....its beginning to become harder and harder to even look at him, loosing respect and the works.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh Debbie - I know what you mean - I was married for 23 years before Bob, and I lost respect for my ex, and wouldn't take it anymore. Not that he treated me badly or anything, just didn't treat me at all. Like I was part of the furniture.
You need to make sure he knows how upset you are. I know that I left it too long and it "stewed" inside of me, but my ex didn't even know when I was seeing a marriage counsellor!
No matter how bad you feel Debbie, or where you are in the relationship, always know that we are HERE for you.
