Best/Worse/What did I learn today? a visit with friends!!

Lyndonville, NY

Thank you Susan, that means a lot. I do a lot of talking and letting him know, but he just sits there. He never gives feedback.
I went to counseling for 3 years....because of this and some other thing (with my moms illness and that dug up problems) and this was part of our "work". It did no good.

Baton Rouge, LA

OMG Deb... That makes me SO MAD !
DH should IMHO be the "Bad Guy" I mean what kind of hubs would leave that for the MOM?

It's so difficult in our family... because we have "his and"hers kids.... lately I've been thinking the girls have grown up so much when I made it very CLEAR that I was not involved in their lives... I think it's time for me to do that wiht DS... make it clear that he is in charge NOT ME... and he makes his own decisions...

((HUGS))
Mary

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, that is what I have done with the kids since they were about 14. I gave them a talk about "Listen, YOU are given choices. YOU make the right choice....or the wrong choice. IF you make the wrong choice, YOU will pay the consequences....NOT ME, NOT YOUR DAD."

There was a time or two in school....minor things. Choosing to goof off instead of going to a after school study group for SATs. And then getting a horrible score and ticked. I just said "Wow, who made the decision to do that? And what happened? Wow, YOU made the wrong choice". AND....they started really noticing they are accountable for their actions and the impending reaction....good or bad.

BUT....DS isn't the kind that reasons. He flies off the handle with his temper, and he is about a foot taller than me. I can handle the words. BUT I can't handle him getting really angry and IF he were to get physical. He NEVER has...with me...but...there is always a first time.

Thanks, Sorry to vent soo....
Debbie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Debbie - your son sounds like mine........... He also was taller, and stronger, and he drank from the time he was 9. I just couldn't handle him on my own, and where was his father??????? Off on a road trip - that's truck drivers for you. They may want to be home, but they're not, and they get the info 2nd hand, which means it's too late to do anything and he'll likely misunderstand anyway, OR over-react. Neither of which is good for raising a child.
After awhile my ex distanced himself so much that he may as well have not been a father. Ah well, "water under the bridge".
(((((((((((Debbie))))))))))))) wish I could be there to help - kinda feel helpless not being able to sit down for a coffee and Just Talk and scowl when DS comes near LOL

Good Morning everyone! Been as Suse says MIA but you have not been far from my thoughts. I read everyday so I could keep up. Fell into a deep black hole and had trouble getting out of it.

(((LK))) There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said but please know you are close to my heart. Losing one of your best friends is so hard but you showed great love and courage. Kooshy is over the Bridge and playing pain free.

Yesterday I was able to work outside in the afternoon in shorts and a sleeveless Tee. I brought a chair out for my guy to sit in and bask in the sun. He had a little nap while catching some rays and felt good enough for me to help him walk and look at the gardens. While we were looking he kept saying to me " I wasn't supposed to see this - how wonderful."

This weather is just weird and I bet we pay for this with another big snow storm. I remember one year having the worst storm of the winter on April 1 so am always waiting for the other shoe to drop when we have great weather early.

Anxiously awaiting your post tomorrow LK telling us our Dylan is here. Love the baby quilt.

Well Betty you came up with on your own exactly what I was going to suggest with the remnants of glass. A mosaic is perfect! I did a huge mosaic one - like picture window size to a very wealthy client. Looks gorgeous in their winter home. Also did several custom pieces for their summer home - all along the wildlife theme. The great thing about mosaics is you make up your pattern as you go along. You will love it when it is done, especially if you have some funky glass to work with.

~~~~ to everyone, need to get the dogs, Mary and myself out for our walk.
Waving Dianne, back in a sec.
1.. little helper Noah from down the street
2.. Julie's staned glass piece...not happy because putting hearts were
not to my liking 3/4 through the project
3.. looking for any pieces that I have that can be used and already
cut to shape..think it's more work...just put glass that matches into
the kiln and I'll see what I can use
back in a bit
Mary she needs to be turned in to a much higher up by all of you, she can't threaten jobs, that's harassment and she could very easily get canned. Lots of people get away with it because the employees don't do anything about it, I hope you guys do something about it.
Debbie Paul would have ended up with no lunch and me gone, of course I would come back, but he would not be eating anything, he could just think that he's starving. That's frustrating, you are always welcome to come down here!
Oh Betty LOL Noah and those are pretty! Thanks for the update on Judy, lol I bet that did hurt!
LK big big hugs, drive careful and hope to hear from you soon saying Dylan was finally born!
I'll update you all later, the sun is over the computer screen and I can't see it anymore, plus I need to put on my shorts and tank top and go out and pull some weeds!
Victoria Harbour, ON
just came in, pruning shrubbery..doesn't look like I've lost many shrubs and the boomerang multiple bloom trees have done well so that is a plus!
Ahhhh drats and more drats, went out forgot to watch my glass in kiln...lucky I still have a kiln, not sure what I find inside, am sure not usable..when will I ever learn.. Think I need a guardian
Dianne, just know you are having same weather as here and yes, does good for ones should just to be out if not working in the garden at least enjoy looking at what Mother Nature is up to. Can't imagine what Warren is going through to wonder what tomorrow will bring and what beauty he hooes he may see..got to be heart wrenching.
Crissy, I think the same, they should go to upper management, how can one be energized to do a good job when you are always being put down..she sure does not know how to be management. When I was mgr for space bank Amex, I had an entire dept running 24/7 , I'd always give/give/give...more independence to do their jobs and found that as I gave I got double the production..everyone has to work or they wouldn't thus why not make the experience more enjoyable..yes the odd one took advantage , soon learned who was who...
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)
waiting patiently for Dylan to arrive........
Betty - after all your hard work, to have it ruined in the kiln........... sorry to hear about that...
Bob's feeling "down" today - old and useless........ my poor man!
A friend at church pressed $60 in my hand and said we should "go fishing or something". I told her it was for rent.... She seems to think others should do the same and we should be "taken care of", but everyone does their service to the Lord and the Church in their own way.
Well, the Church library has been officially passed over to the congregation. We had a guest speaker from The Calgary Pregnancy Care Center and she started her sermon talking about the 5 Languages of Love by saying that thanking someone for the gift of the Library is an Affirmation of Love (while looking at me). I blushed and dipped my head and our Pastor (sitting next to me), turned to me and said "thank you" .........
Victoria Harbour, ON
Oh Susan what a gesture of kindness, it must have overwhelmed you! Poor Bob, can understand that it must be difficult when you so want to provide the necessities of life and just can't seem to get a break..let's hope this week is his week to do so. Susan glad your paster is acknowledging all the work you put into the congregation especially as you were down after a few unkind words/sermon you thought had been directed your way
Ohhh ohhh another thing before I forget, last night Judy told me that she had been putting her resume absolutely everywhere...you do remember how many times she hoped to be called, how tired she was of doing so and getting no response??
WELL. All the time she had been putting her old number that had been out of service for forever. Lol. Seems she updated her qualification etc and never realized the incorrect number.
Must go take a look in the kiln..hopefully the glass didn't run and ruin heating coils. My own stupidity for sure.
Managed to do another hour of garden work..should go out and pick up tools before I soak in bath with Epsom salt then drift off to sleep!
Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)
What a nice tribute to you Susan and to all your hard work. You are especially blessed to have such a loving church family.
Victoria Harbour, ON
Jean, bet you've spent the day gardening right?
Looked in kiln, still to hot to open but what I saw made me smile..not the round piece I had hoped for, different formation but useable I'd it is not stuck to the tray...
Running bath, thinking have a few minutes to go pick up tolls and told myself, no,no,no! That is all. I would need, another flood. Lol
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)
Betty - re: resume wrong # - I realized the same thing - had my old cell# and had changed it in Sept, so NOW I have the correct # on my resume to SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology - just about 15 blocks from home, and they're a major employer!) I had one interview with them last summer, but after that I forgot to update my # so who knows if they'd been calling me?
As for "sermon you thought had been directed your way" The sermon may have not been directed my way, but the pastor had taken me aside and directly told me he thought I was taking on too much stewardship and thought I wasn't allowing others to help Betty - as you and I had discussed on the phone, people tend to think because I can do everything that I want to do it all and they seem to think that I want to "hog the glory" when things couldn't be more from the truth. I have, individually and by phone as well as by announcement, asked for help and pleaded for help, but if it's not forthcoming I step up and try to get the thing done. Today I thanked those that helped even a little (by supplying office supplies via our secretary) and I know our Pastor was pleased with that.
Anyhooooooo the Library is being looked after by the secretary, a friend in the church, and myself (as Librarian) cuz after all, if I "get hit by a Mack truck" someone has to know what to do with the books, right?!?!?!
Everything's laid out at the Library, and the secretary will get an email with all the data, so she can step in as needed.
Victoria Harbour, ON
All under control Susan! You would make a wonderful librarian...
Nice to be so organized. So perhaps you had best make contact with them just to make sure if they tried to contact you and failed that they have your correct number..wouldn't that be something ig they had!!
Can't believe it is 5:30 pm and I'm done in
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)
Betty - I went onto their website, which is how I realized I had old contact info.
I couldn't be a librarian - 1. I have NO idea how to use the ISBN #s that are now used. 2. You have to have a degree to be a Librarian nowadays.... A Masters in library science or library and information science (6 year course), and I don't have that.
It's not like it used to be "in the old days" when you got on-the-job training and held the position until you retired.
Bob found one job that wanted a B.A in order to be a shipping clerk, for goodness sakes!
I have an Office Administration diploma (with honours) and still they want to pay the rate of a junior straight out of high school!!
It seems this type of hiring is cyclical and we're in the "cheap cycle" now LOL
Well, since Dylan is taking his dear sweet time coming....though I would share a picture.
I am a "Grand mooo ma". This "little guy" was born today, which is also my SIL Andys birthday
so his name is AJ for andy jr. Wasn't supposed to be a field delivery....Andy got the baby and mom cleaned up
and moved into the barn this afternoon.
And this little one was born one week ago...cute face.
Had a few hours to myself today and enjoyed every minute. Drove DS back to college alone, two hours up...took him grocery shopping....and took my sweet time coming back. Got back just in time to make dh his dinner.
Thanks for sharing, Debbie - cute face, indeed!
Is that Grand-mooo-pa with the little one? LOL
Victoria Harbour, ON
Ahhh Debbie, just too adorable! Bet you just wanted to drive right over there and p,ay grand moo ma..
Glad you finally got a day to enjoy yourself..sometimes a day driving, doing nothing and enjoying the sunshine just puts you on a high.
Would have thought even with limited use Paul could have cooked you supper..not?
Lyndonville, NY
Betty, didn't even get up and get his lunch...which was all set up in the fridge. Drama king right now.
Victoria Harbour, ON
Hmmm lolmthat is a semi sick man for you..it's like no one has ever been I'll before...they are champs when it champs when it comes to major illnesses.. let them have but a hang nail and watch out!
Baton Rouge, LA
Hello to all !
Deb - Happy Grandmoomama ! Those cows are so so cute... Sil looks like a nice fella. Susan... KUDOS to you gal... I know you don't do it for the appreciation but you deserve it and glad you were recognized.....
Crissy - Yes - I suppose someone should say something but they only do when leaving the co. Both bosses have been there 20+ years... Everyone in the dept. has plans to leave....
Dianne... Thank you so much for taking me on the walk with you... nothing like nature to de-stress.... sad that you have been in the dumps lately but what a wonderful day to be outside with Santa Warren enjoying some sunshine... So I'm glad you could both take advantage of it...
I enjoyed the back yard all weekend... will be sore tomorrow but saw a blue bird nesting in the back yard, red birds too... butterflies... pretty things.... Betty - Noah is precious... Put me in his spot in the picture and that is what I felt like I did most of today. I should have done a "Before" and "After" picture...
Thanks Betty for the news on Judy. Hope she gets to a computer soon... wish I knew her travel plans... Florida is so close...
She and Thunder are gonna have to find internet somewhere.
Liz - my friend has a few Jack Russells... Belle is a Mutt but I find she does resemble them somewhat... They are feisty....She was fit to be tied with a garage sale taking place across the street yesterday. How DARE people walk in her yard? She was appalled that I walked over there to shop. Wish I had bought the puzzle I found for Barb.
I'll pop back in a bit...
Mary
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)
Thank you Mary - and all of you who've been so supportive when I thought no one at church could have cared less..........
Y'know, when you have the will to do something and you have "thrown yourself into it" cuz it's something you Want to do and it's Needed to be done, I think it's shameful of people to tell you that you Shouldn't do it. After all, if you see a need, and you feel you can fulfil it, why not for heaven's sake?!?!?!
I really am getting very tired of people telling me what I want to do!!!
Lyndonville, NY
I took the garbage out to the road, and recycling. Came back in to a "crash" and Dexter, the "large boned" kitty,knocked the entire container of bird seed on the floor! Had to be at least 8 cups of seed in there...and boy did it splatter. All swept up and I gave Dexter the stink eye!
Andy is a sweetheart for the most part, very old school. He should have grown up in the 50s...he is so out of place in this day world. I know that doesn't make sense to many, but he he very at home on a farm....and reminds me of an old "Mayberry" type guy. My daughter, is just the opposite....but they are cute together.
Linda Kay....this waiting for us AUNTS is hard work. How is grandma doing, you holding up?
Baton Rouge, LA
Hey Susan;
I completely understand.... There's a saying... I can't remember verbatim... but wondering "who" will do "this" and then realizing the "who" is "ME"....
Sometimes it is very therapeutic to throw yourself into a project.... I remember when I was so disgruntled at my last job... I began working on creating the Band Booster Club at the High School.... people thought I was Crazy... or whatever..but if I didn't have that project at the time... I'd have been lost....
(HUGS)
Mary
Baton Rouge, LA
Oh Deb.... one thing after another !....
Well - "Opposites attract"....good for you for raising your daughter to find a "good" one...
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)
Mary - once upon a time I had a very distressed teen boy who kept running away and causing me all kinds of grief. In that 3 months of summer I worked 480 hours of overtime! My boss had the company cut me a check for over $3k because he understood what I was going through with my son, and he also said "we didn't hire you to be a volunteer!" So there, on me, eh?
It is the way I de-stress, and frankly it distracts me from other things that are going on in my life.
When my Dad passed away in 1982, just before Christmas, I was working at the neighbourhood 7-11 and between the 12th of Dec and Boxing Day I had no idea what I was doing - I was on auto-pilot and worked every shift available. People were more than happy to give up their shift for an "over-achiever" to do it. We were always short-staffed and at Christmastime people wanted to be at home with their families rather than working. I didn't realize until I saw my check, and tried to argue with them that it was wrong....... that I realized Just How Many hours I put in............
Baton Rouge, LA
Susan - completely understand! Good for you... putting your stress into something productive.... I suppose that is something that is learned ? I do the same..... Like today... could have done NOTHING but completely worked my tail off in the back yard.... so sore... but so glad I got stuff done....feel so productive...
(HUGS)
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)
(((((Mary))))) Nice to know there's more than one "intense" person out there that Gets Things Done when stuff is building up inside the old brain pan LOL
It isn't exactly "dumbing down" but doing things by rote sure helps shut down the part of your head that's hurting......
Victoria Harbour, ON
Quick opening of my eyes...looking for baby Dylan??
Hmmm not here to say 'hi' so back to sleep I go!
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Checking in quickly from my iPad, still no Dylan! They are starting the pytocin to induce her.
Victoria Harbour, ON
Waiting anxiously LindaKay!!
Morning all
Well if we enjoyed the weather this past weekend then we are in yet for higher temps to awe us..Lordy by mid week in the 70's..will have to see work schedule, might have to work from home..think I wi
L go purchase long phone cord so I can play in gardens without worrying about hand sets..
Debbie I think it's marvelous that Andy has been able to stay untouched by the drama of today..bet he's as cute as a button..lucky you to have such a SIL..
Mary, waiting until each leave isn't the best way to handle things..if most are going to leaves anyway why not band together, perhaps changes can be made where you can stay and enjoy the work load without the stress.
Still foggy out there so think I'll head out a few minutes early..hmm just realized I left keys in the car, must check to see if it's still there. Lol
Now that would be a good excuse to stay home.
Lyndonville, NY
My morning isn't going well.....
we are missing a cat, been over this house top to bottom....and it is BIG. Terrified she got out, she is very small and does not like the outside.
THEN of all things, using flashlight to look for her....arm up in the air, and out slips heavy metal Mac flashlight onto my face. Lip split wide open and OUCH. Hurts like crazy. Have had ice on and off...and it won't let me drink my much needed coffee.
Back on the search.....
Dylan, come on baby boy....induction is more painful that labor itself, so batten down the hatches! Mama aint' gonna be happy.
Victoria Harbour, ON
Oh Debbie, perhaps she's just sleeping in...hope you find her to set your mind at ease..wouldn't go far seeing as she's frightened of outdoors..Shane didn't pack her in his suitcase did he??
I'll say it's not a good start to a Monday morning..ouch/double ouch..
Was induced with Greg, labor came fast and furious..now that was an ouch moment!!! lol
Passed the car dealership down the road, took a tour of their lot, saw the Sonic 4 door, didn't have the 5 door (4 doors and hatch) looks slightly bigger but not by much..think I'll keep my appt. with Larry saturday morning and have a test drive..hate it when you are unsure of what to do? have a vehicle no payments but repairs or vehicle with payments having warrantee?? hard choice to make right??
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Betty, why not transfer the office phone to your cell phone, keep it in your pocket.
Dr. just broke her water, and said Dylan should be here sometime this afternoon..... Looks like it gonna be a long day!
Victoria Harbour, ON
I'd be worried I'd miss a call or two..we've appts tomorrow but nothing Wednesday, perhaps Wedn. and Fri. will be my days home lol
How exciting is that, I'm sure you are on pins and needles waiting his arrival..here's to a healthy baby and a nervous grannie!!!
Just spoke with Ann, lordy she is soooo sick..barely a voice, cough is terrible, she's just so down, sick of being sick and then worrying about her sister.
Called Darlene earlier this morning, it's her birthday today..hard to say "HAPPY" birthday when she is mourning the loss of Mike.
Hard times for sure!
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)
woo hoo - c'mon Dylan baby!!
Lyndonville, NY
Ooooh, Linda Kay, make sure you eat and stay strong!
Lexi has been found...hiding in my closet under DH's bathrobe. We were up there several times with flashlight and the works. You can tell she is The Childs cat...PITA.
