Best/Worse/What did I learn today? a visit with friends!!
Well, did you all enjoy your day? Bet the majority of us enjoyed higher than normal temps...
Must go back through threads and see which day Barb was to see the specialist..it's been such a long wait for the appointment
Dianne, how are you doing with the headache, has the sunshine helped any? Has Warren been keeping on his eating trend? With mild temps and warm weather has the ice melted on the bay?
Judy, where re you girl??
Sure wish we would hear from thunder and Suse...
Daylight up to a few minutes ago..did work out in the yard for about 1/2 hr. then temps started to fall so in I came...been on the telephone since.
I thought I might get into the craft room for an hour or so but couch more comfortable than it should..
Debbie, you will have to eat Cheerios or spinach to get you through the day tomorrow..will be saying prayers that all goes well with Paul's procedure.
Laura, wow you have flowers that look like that already..wowzers I want to move to your neighborhood.
Crissy, mthey must have given you extra duties, don't remember you ever being this busy.
been busy today, sewing the lap quilt together for my friend (then one for his wife).
Now heading off to Church board meeting.
Cya later.
Did you finish it Susan? Enjoy the evening, Lordy ie just come to bed and you are off doing something productive!
Hello To All !
Izzy - you look MAHVelous ! Love the steps they look so sturdy. Me (and hubs) would be having Porch-envy. We don't have one and we love them...
Laura - OMG those blooms are gorgeous, are they lilies?
Susan - always helping others (HUGS)
Can't remember what else but read all....
Stopped to chat w/ a customer who recommended Comfortis for Belle/fleas.. so stopped to buy one ($19!) and we're trying that...
I've also heard Garlic ?
Hugs,
Mary
Mary, the garlic has been used...but causes more problems....same with onion. They have changed so many times what is good, what isn't. Izzy was on the Comfortis. Check out 1-800-Pet-Meds and see if it is cheaper....just get a prescription from vet for it and order off line. Most of their things are so much cheaper.
I am fighting to stay awake tonight. Have a feeling I won't make night shift.
Betty - the quilts are made up of 5 blocks per row (9"), and I think I'm doing 7 rows. As soon as I get 5 blocks done, I sew them together and add the new row to the rest. I've finished 4 rows, and have 4 blocks done.
For the 2nd one, I cut the muslin base and the center, and just have to create the "scrap" on the top.
They're "flip & sew", so very quick. The one I'm doing is blues, and the next one is turquoise (may have a bit more trouble doing that one........ don't know how much turquoise-like material I have..... maybe just more bright colours.
When done, I will post pics.
I'm actually pretty pleased with the result - I've never done a "flip and sew" and can't remember ever having done a scrap quilt at all.........
Susan - that is all "Greek" to me... LOL.... Beautiful quilts I am sure...
OMG Deb... Gave Belle the Comfortis and about 1 hour later... the fleas were saying "Abandon Ship" !
Called hubs in... it was incredible... he threw (not really throw) Belle in the bath and I washed the sheets (again) and I think we are flea free...
What probs did garlic cause ? Belle ate with her breakfast today with no probs although maybe this comfortis is the cure...
Hugs,
Mary
Mary, repeat that in 10 to 14 days...the bath that is. Thats when the next set of eggs will hatch. Thats what we had to do.
If you have rugs, keep vacuuming and clean out the canister/bag or they will escape again. It is amazing how fast the stuff works.
Remember too, the remaining scratching...is from allergic reaction to their bites and will take a few days to stop.
I believe it causes anemia....long term use, so does onion powder/onions. One sec.
OK, here:
Recommended Precautions When Using Garlic
Raw garlic isn’t recommended for dogs and only cooked garlic incorporated in the food should be administered to the pet. Remember, large quantities of garlic are harmful to your pet’s health and only small quantities of garlic should be added to the diet, as dogs can easily build up toxic levels of garlic. Depending on the dog’s size and breed, this build up can occur over varying periods of time and can lead to the accidental poisoning of your pet. Garlic is known to be toxic when it’s combined with chocolate and raisins, so if you are using garlic to get rid of dog’s fleas, you must keep raisins and chocolate off your pet’s diet.
Garlic has also been found to cause anemia in dogs and this can be dangerous to the pet’s health. Apart from this, garlic isn’t recommended for use in diabetic dogs as it can aggravate insulin problems and prove fatal. Hence, before you start administering garlic to your dog to rid him of fleas, it’s best to consult your veterinarian. It’s important to get advice about the amount of garlic that should be given as well.
The veterinarian would be able to advice you whether administering garlic is a preferred option and also how much of it should be administered keeping in mind your pet’s weight, age and breed. Although fleas will leave your dog’s coat if they can taste garlic on the coat, addition of garlic to your pet’s diet will not prevent fleas from falling off the coat.
You should ensure that your pet’s coat is well groomed to remove fleas present on the coat. Although it’s best to use natural remedies such as garlic, it’s advisable to seek medical care if there is no improvement in your pet’s condition.
OK I am heading to bed....tired out like crazy!
Sweet dreams
Debbie
AND, you should NEVER EVER give your dogs chocolate OR raisins ...with or without garlic, it is very dangerous.
Very Good Advice Debbie ! Really could not believe how effective the Comfortis was ! Sheets in dryer... Belle has been bathed... unbelieveable !
I understand that dogs are allergic to onions, too!
Mary - I can understand why it would be Greek.......... guess you kinda have to "see" it to figure it out. I surely couldn't figure it out if I hadn't seen it before trying it.
Let's see - simpler......... cut a 9 1/2" square of muslin. Decide what colours and gather all your scraps of material. Decide if you want stripes (start from one edge and work in), or a center and work out.
Here's a few starter pictures of what I did, and one previous completed one.
BEAUTIFUL! Susan !
The Comfortis has been SO effective ! Belle is sound asleep and sheets /Belle has been washed....
HUGS
Mary
so glad Belle is feeling better!!
re: Flip & Sew - I've never done it before, but Bob is sure impressed :-)
It's so easy to do, too, and quick!
I'll post pics when I'm done.
Susan, love doing scrap quilting, great way of using up boxes of mismatched pieces you have no idea what to do with! Looking forward to seeing end product.
I get Advantage from vets for Sailor and the kitties..works well..just realized I have to capture one of the kitties so they can weigh in order to be able to purchase supplies. Maybe with early onset of spring those peskie fleas will be looking for a home.
Running late, gab wheni get to work..
Mary...I am sending a link on TORUS, a growth regulator for insects...This stuff is magic....it contains fenoxycarb...a birth control for insects. It is safe for indoor use (not dangerous as soon as it dries). We use the wettable powder in a dedicated sprayer and treat the entire yard...our yard is not fenced so neighbor dogs traverse it. Our dogs have a fenced area and over the past 10 years, we have not had a single flea or tick on them. The cats have free range of the yard and the same for them...flea free.

Jean, sounds like a great product..vet says Sailor and Missy have high allergy to fleas, must get Sailor shaved before much longer as a have a terrible time with her. Last night she was having difficult time breathing, gasping and chocking, happens more and more..kow what's coming..it's to find the courage to do something about it.
Beautiful sunshine day here, calling for much the same for next 2 weeks!
Darlene called last night, guess she is trying to plan her life..said she wants to go to Florida for January and February and would I drive her down then fly back and fly back to drive her home..said I'd love to..much can happen from now till then, emotions running high..think she is dreading Christmas already.
I thought it was Christmas last night when I went downstairs..she had been cleaning her house..had 5 top sheets still in packages (aha could use them for lining on a few projects or in making blocks for table cloth for secret garden table (which is in the elements but covered with clear plastic) then a bag of Santa's that we used for the sleighs..not sure as I didn't count them but has to be 60..hmmm maybe could make a few lap top quilts using some of them and alternating them pieced blocks..then an obus form for me to bring to work, big bag of clothing, some pretty neat incase I know someone who would like them..lots of jeans..some wood pieces etc. This weekend I'll go through all and reorganize the craft rooms because the main room sure is taking a beating with everyone spring cleaning and bringing their craft items they thought they would do over to my house..think we should all chip in and build a room filled with shelving and drawers... lol
Debbie, thinking of you and Paul today..hope all goes well
Goodness, sounds like you have a bunch of crafts to organize? What do the Santa's look like?
If you want some LindaKay, I'd be glad to ship..they were the ones I did the workshops on..4 different victorian santa's..can you remember the sleighs!!
We will leave here between 10 & 10:30....I am having my breakfast first. Izzy let us sleep in and we didn't get up til 8:30, which is really late for both of us. Think we needed it!
I don't know if my phone will let me update from hospital...but will if I can.
Everyone have a great day, and enjoy the sunshine!
Hugs,
Debbie
Will be waiting for your update Debbie, try not to worry..after what happened to you during last operation I'm sure you will..sending prayers!
OMG LindaKay, do you know it was in 2007 that I taught the sleigh class??? who would have thunk so many years would go by.
Here's the link..if you scroll down you will see I believe to be 4 different victorian santa's..
edited to add the link...crazy me..lol

Betty, those are so pretty! I would love to have a few, I will have to go find a sleigh, but a nice project for sure! How about doing this for this years workshop? Hobby Lobby may have a sleigh? How big are they?
Betty, tall dark and handsome "Superman Dr. Hotness" is doing this one....I willl be fine O:)
Betty, are the Santa's all cut out, or are they panels?
Take care Debbie! Sending you off with lots of prayers!
think LindaKay they were very easy to cupt out..the girls could remember perhaps, not sure if I cut the pattern on bristle board for top and runners to be used as template hhhhmmm or did I cut and mail? Can easily be cut with jig saw..if not I could mail you one...you must know someone who might have a scroll saw..very little effort to make the sleigh...how many Santa's do you want? can mail out at end of month when I go to Hamburg/Buffalo N.Y.
Mail them early as goodness knows where I'll store them, never to be found..lol
Oooh 'eye candy' Debbie..get all guzzied up, maybe he'll take more time to come sit with you than what he spends with Paul..lol
Most of the work LindaKay is cutting the white fabric off and keeping santa only..
I did several workshops at my house that year, did most of the cutting myself, then I got smart, where I could I gave the santa's to them early and let them do the work..now must tell you, it's just as easy to make 4 as 1 because of the mess and time involved..ask Barb, she made 4 while visiting last fall and I think she enjoyed the process.
Speaking of Barb, went through past 3 previous threads and couldn't see her post giving the dates for her appointment..can anybody help??? sure do miss her.
Katie/Bev/Shirley/Thea...thinking of you all...hugs coming your way!
I think she said around the 15th? Not for sure?
wasn't sure if it was yesterday or tomorrow..
Ok, 3rd times a charm here
Good Morning!!!!
Nope Betty, no extra work, just when one person has a problem all 50 of them have to have problems LOL
Oh Oh Oh Oh Debbie!!!!
I don't remember when Barb's appointment is either, and she just said the other day. How bad are we? LOL
And I'm thinking it's today
Well Crissy, between all 3 choices, we are bound to hit one of them..sure hope she posts how she is doing..not like her to be so quiet on all the threads..that has me worried..
I'm going to look for her post.. I know she said the other day.
Ok Found it!! Barb posted this on March 8th, so her appt is today.
"Good morning - is there any coffee left anywhere?
Sorry to be off for such a long time but I really haven't been feeling my best. This gall bladder thingy just won't let up anymore. Thank God I see the dr next Wed and please pray that I will get some answers as to what I can do...I've been busy sewing but can't post pictures for a while. Surprises don't you know.
Betty, that painting is so lifelike!!!! Inuk is such a beautiful animal. Sharon must be really pleased...
I want to take a moment to wish Susan (tallulah) a very Happy Birthday. I know it's not until Sunday but we will have Sean for the weekend and he loves my computer!!!!! Just in case I didn't want to forget...
This will be short. Norm is coming home early today and we are going for a ride to see my brother's new home. It will be great to get out of the house for a while. Now that I need the O2 all the time, I don't go out too often.
Sending love and prayers to everyone...
Barb"
Oh, I missed that. - Thanks for posting her post.
Thank you Barb, for the birthday wishes!!
I wonder what time today her app't is. I know it was on the "other page" (I'm editing this post, so can't see hers, and my "remembry" ain't all that good LOL )

Crissy thanks, I went through posts look for actual figure date listed..here she said 'next Wednesday' which means today...hopefully tonight she will be up to updating..
Tried to post yesterdqay and the internet went down. Came to town today just to use the internet and I can{t get into my gmail account.. I{m in a rotten mood anyway as I{ve spent the morning dealing with dust and it literally makes me sick.
Neighbor Dana seems to be not speaking to me again since she now has the stuff she wanted me to bring her from ca. What can you expect from somone who says, "Tom is my husband and I have to do what he tells me." (When it suits her, of course.) Pardon me while I vomit.
Had one of those revelations this morning. There are friends who support you and then there are people who are stuck in being smug and superior, offering advice where it{s not wanted and ignoring anything you might have to say. I'm in the process of ridding myself of a couple of the latter. Told one friend of all the pian, especially in my legs and he made a "cute"remark about all the things I can doing while sitting down. Nothing like adding gult to pain and depression. Glad I'm not in a wheel chair or I might have been tempted to kill him.
what is wrong with people? However, tony and I have our plans for after Dane and her boss the husband leave in May and they will not like it when they return. Talked with tony about giving people more chances than seems to make sense. we are both people who will continue to take chances hoping that people will respond like humans. Some just don't. Or worse, tyhey think you appreciate their helpful comments.
Dang, I{m in a rotten mood. Glad you are all here.
back soon.
hugs, katie
LOL Katie!! That's hilarious about your neighbor, I know women like that and it's a sad sad situation for them to be in and they don't even know it. And that sounds exactly what my husband would say!! ARGH just makes me so angry I could eat nails. I have came to the conclusion that anyone who I don't like or who doesn't like me is just plain stupid LOL!!!
