Baton Rouge, LA

YAY Susan.. time to get stuff done for you and BOB now.... Jobs coming soon and will take up much time so take care of yourselves !

Folks... Gonna try Cabbage Rolls from Dianne's Neighborhood cookbook tomorrow ! It calls for Wild Rice... do I use Cooked rice or not? and can I use white rice? (it doesn't say).... ((HUGS)) been trying to figure out how to cook that cabbage from new years eve!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Wild Rice??? I've never heard of cabbage rolls with Wild Rice......
I'm from Winnipeg, and my sister married a Ukrainian man - her sister-in-laws showed her how to make cabbage rolls and she does it all the time now. Gosh, she's 70, so trying to think how long they've been married, and she's made peroghy and holopchi.......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Sure hope you all drop in so we know you are ok..USA sure has been hit hard..prayers going out to those poor smilies who lost everything.
Winds here are beyond belief, now it's starting to snow, won't be pretty for sure. Need a few groceries so am trying to drum off energy to go into town before the storm hits and you can't see.

The furries were out but for a few minutes, guess they know best!

Maybe sitting and reading my new Frankie Flowers book will make me think spring..

Mary, should you not have warned your friend about working for the company seeng you now know how stressful it is? Wondered if you would end up losing a friend by not doing so? You asked what was the best of my birthday day?? Guess the calls, dmails, emails and visits from family and friends..the calmness of the day..a truly calming day (excluding of course my talks with Ann and Darlene-only meaning my heat went out to them and glad I was here to listen)! Just prrrfect
as for cabbage rolls,mi use regular rice..wild rice has a distinctive taste and tends to take over the taste of all else.

The weather today lends to doing very little other than playing in the house. Will go searching through my cupboards for hooks so I can hang the stained glass piece and see if it bothers me having something in the window..always enjoy watching the goings on up/down the street, busy body you could call me lol ..the SG hanging just might put a stop to it.

Then sewing it will be..

Susan, hope everyone that said they would help comes out and you are home in time to enjoy the day with Bob

Crissy, what are you up to?

LindaKay, guess I missed out having the little one bornmon my birthday..boo hoo..am sure heather is saying boo hoo as well

Time to get mobile, if I'm going to town it should be now

Thinking of Greg driving all the way home from Newfoundland in this weather...drats not good..

Lyndonville, NY

Morning,

Betty the weather is horrific here also. Winds started right on time last night (Midnight as predicited) and at 4:30 or so I finally came down here to be with the furbabies as they were a mess. Ended up with 3 cats on me and one on back of couch....the dog right close too. Going to be a long day.

I have to go up to 'the childs" apartment and cover two kitchen chairs for her....they are old and nasty looking. Went to JoAnns and got some fabric so hope it goes well.

Everyone stay safe.....

Debbie

Best of luck with upholstering project Debbie, watch the driving in high winds..bring your camera, love to see finished project.

Off to stained glass shop and groceries...

Hello All... just checking in....

Yes - Betty I wish she had asked me... we worked together over 15years ago but we don't talk often...by the time I talked with her...she had already accepted the position. Maybe they will go easy on her... at any rate ...surely after 24 years she can go back to her old company if she is as unhappy as I am.

Okay - will do the cabbage rolls with white rice... relieved because I don't want to have to go to the store and we do have white rice. It calls for "Tomato Juice" so I'm gonna use Tomato sauce? and I suppose I won't cook the rice because it looks like it goes in the oven for quite a while. Yell at me if I'm wrong on any of the above.... LOL

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, you might want to cook the rice first....it needs a lot of moisture to cook/expand and I don't think tomato sauce will provide that like tomato juice will.

Baton Rouge, LA

Thanks Deb.... I guess I'll get some tomato Juice... I suppose it's like the juice they have in cans that ppl drink.....
and I'll cook the white rice first.

Sorry for all the questions...... I'm Clueless ! Still a few hours out before I start ...if anyone has more advice.....

News Flash: Belle now knows how to pick up the newspaper in the driveway and bring in the house.... HAHAHAHAHA
Got to go fry Hubs some bacon.....

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Mary, when we make Cabbage rolls, we use Tabasco Bloody Mary mix rather than plain tomato juice...gotta have that Louisiana KICK...and it works just as well as tomato juice/sauce. And we always cook the rice first...gauge the liquid part of your recipe accordingly...precooked rice requires less liquid over all...as a matter of fact, I brown the meat and mix all the rice, meat and seasonings together and blanch the cabbage leaves to make them more pliable and easier to roll...the extra prep time cuts the cooking time considerably.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Cook the rice first for those cabbage rolls, and I cook them with Sauerkraut instead of the tomato juice/sauce... I have had them both ways, we just prefer the Sauerkraut.

Still not Dylan, we are waiting so patiently...

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are all making me hungry for cabbage rolls..FIL always made the bet, then on to hubby..occasionally I make the..always follow his tried and true method of wrapping cabbage in seran wrap and freezing overnight...take out a few hours before using, so playable, almost like rubber..simply slit the core off nd ready for rolling..

Quite a bit of damage..sure hope the FoxiLady stays on her blocks..neighbors shed he put together last fall is now partially leaning on my BBQ and caught between the treesm drats another few inches and it would have been ontop of my gazebo and I would have had a new one...hmm wind still blowing strong..may it might move. What worries me is it is caught between tree and fencing, let's hope they don't have to cut the tree down..I'd be so upset..hangs over my pond but it is mostly on their side...

Spend a coup,e of hours at stained glass studio looking through pattern books..mom saw the 2 panels I made and said she'd love one..another thought for Christmas gift for her..came up with a few patterns. Bought some supplies to finish the other jewelery boxes..Don, friend was there with Pat his wife, did some chatting..she had already called me this morning to discuss soap class next Saturday so we ended up gabbing and I did not finish picking out glass, will do that when studio is quiet and I investigate what glass I have..like fabric, you get addicted and keep buying sooo have to check my stock before I go back.

LindaKay, never heard using sauerkraut...ahhh so the wait continues for Dylan..he is being stubborn isnt he!!

We know Mary is cooking, Debbie is upholstering, betty. Working on quilt and jewelery boxes, what are the rest of you up to...whatever it is please be safe

Baton Rouge, LA

Wow - Betty those are some strong winds. ! be careful....

Just finished folding clothes and Hubs car keys.... LOL... checking in for last bits of advice... Thank you Jean, Betty, LK, Deb, Etc...

I've never even eaten Cabbage rolls... Here goes ! LOVE Sauerkraut LK... but hubs barely likes cabbage...he promises he'll try it. Jean love the mix idea... Will definitely add in some Tony's and Tabasco....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

He is being really stubborn! Wonder if you can place the head of cabbage in the freezer Betty. I always cut out the core, then place in a large pot of boiling water, to soften the leaves, so,I can peel them off.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Debbie - good for you, to re-upholster the chairs. You must still have energy left to be able to do this.
mmmmmmmmm Cabbage rolls...... I like the ones that I buy, already sauced. Some of them come without sauce.

Betty - wish I were as ahead of the "game" for Christmas presents as you. I think I'm doing well if I'm thinking about What To Get for someone by September!!

Well, off to WM to pick up some more Business card holders for the Church binder...... cya after our Work Crew to set up the library bookshelves!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Mary, does your recipe call for hamburger, sausage??? I use 1 part hamburger, and 2 parts of an Italian sausage, or breakfast sausage. Mix that with the rice, and an egg, roll into the cooked cabbage, cover with the sauerkraut, and bake covered with foil for about an hour, then I remove the foil, and brown a bit.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

mmmmmmm that sounds GOOD, LK!!!!!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

So many ideas...done the boiling method LindaKay, just find the freezing easier..hmmm sausage as well..maybe tomorrow I'll do a batch!

Susan, ahead of Xmas only because it's winter and nothing better to do..

Noah came for a hot chocolate, off he went..at least he came to visit right..he's always so cheery..

Asked if he heard from his dad today, nope, thinks he was leaving this mornimg for home..I'll not rest until he is home..

Victoria Harbour, ON

my visitor....those grandsons can always expect a treat when visiting grandma..lol

got to buff and shine this jewelery box...

Back to sewing

Verona, ON

Mary, how goes the recipe? I use hamburg and pork but LK the idea of sausages sounds great. I use tomato sauce and if it gets too thick I add some spicy Garden Cocktail. Like LK I also add sauerkraut. LK seems the cabbage rolls we make and how we make them are very much the same. Mary yours will be great!!!

Gosh need to power down, the lights are flickering again. Candles and extra water on hand so we.are ready for no power. Hope to be BBL
Dianne

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, love that jewelry box!

Dianne, please take care!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bet Mary is having cabbage rolls and I'm having left over souvlaki..trade you Mary

Didn't someone say they would post a recipe and we would all cook it one day?? That sounds like a lot of fun..

Snow and wind have stopped at the moment! Dianne I think of Greg travelling by your area at some point during the night, sur hope it improves for yo and he..hoping you power just flickers and doesn't go out!

LindaKay you've been quiet, working on a special project..

Wonder how thunder and Thea are doing?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Just spending the day with hubby, as I know, or hope to be in San Antonio soon with Dylan...

Victoria Harbour, ON

How long do you think you will be away LindaKay? A week?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I hope it is with in a week. There is a full moon on Thursday, so maybe that will make her go into labor?

Lyndonville, NY

We are back and even more exhausted. I think driving the van in that wind was part of it.

Kitchen chairs have new covered cushions, turned out pretty good. I have enough to cover the two in the attic also....but think I will hold off.

The wind took down FILs barn, I think he just moved the tractor out just two days ago as a "just in case" with this old place. It wa a huge barn, but now looks like craft wood to me!

You have all been so busy today....I can't keep my eyes open so will report bac in a bit.

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about the barn, but you know that old barn wood makes great bird houses?

Lyndonville, NY

Yes I do, and already have my SIL thinking about that. lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Omg I'm heading to Debbie's fil's, yep birdhouses, another garden shed, flower planting bench, shelves..mind is working overtime!

Off to bed Debbie, you've accomplished much today..bet she is thrilled and apartment is as cute as can be!

LindaKay,another wrestless night ahead of you,lol

Off to bed, I'm pleased with my day, another one just waiting for me to wake up...

Night/night everyone

Victoria Harbour, ON

Pack me a few planks..

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All ! Good Evening Night Shift !

Cabbage Rolls were delicious ! Even Hubs said so... I was worried they didn't "look" good but did taste good. Think I need more sauce next time and next time LK and Dianne... I will definitely try the Sausage and Kraut idea... will put Kraut on part since now I know DH will eat them.
Jean - I did get a bit heavy handed with the Tony's, Tabasco and Garlic ! LOL......
Betty that Jewelry Box is just gorgeous ! I love Noahs eyes... they came straight from Betty ! Yes - Didn't Dianne have that idea? We could all make the same recipe in one day... I'm sure we'd have some variations....
I'm "in" as long as it would be a Sunday that I would be home.

MIL picked up DSD2 for Prom Dress shopping. LOVE my MIL... this is the last Prom Dress shopping for this generation LOL.

Debbie - pics of the apartment? Please get some rest. Hope those of you with colds/flu are feeling better....

Supposedly sunshine tomorrow and I'm headed to niece Baby Shower with MIL, DSD2.

DS GF's bday today. I hope she liked her pressie from me. Thunder may have had tornadoes today....will call DSis and Dad tomorrow to check on them.... hope you are all okay.....

Check back soon,
Hugs,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary, did you keep some leftovers for me? Nice having something different for a change isn't it?

What did you get for DS' s girlfriend?

When is your niece due, is it her first?

Sad when a generation of traditions is over...

Trying to doze off,no can do..mind won't turn off..listening to Riley purring, maybe that will put me to sleep

Baton Rouge, LA

Yes Betty ! Was nice to have something diff...and glad Hubs liked it. DSD2 didn't try... she has decided to be a vegetarian for Lent. LOL.... I have been short on funds... liked Deb's idea of a bag of several items... got DS GF a $30 GC to her fav restaurant, (Greek) put in there several "Freebies" that I happened to have (ie free smoothies) a sample size cherry blossom moisturizer, Disney Princess Chapstick, her fav candy (Ferrera Roche).

I had a Mikasa Glass Frame... had it 15+ years or so and it's been in my room ...never put a pic in it... so I did the Unthinkable and cleaned it up and re-gifted it. it is two hearts and I thought she would like it to put a pic of her and Ds in.... Should have 'warned' DS andHubs... because they recognized it and totally embarrassed me... but I just mumbled... "I wanted her to have it I thought she would like it".......

So I'm not sure if I'm a heel or if it's okay. She was perfectly Thankful and Grateful and sweet. I'll ask DS later if it went over well... It is really pretty... so I hope it's okay.

Niece is due April 18th.

Hope you can get to sleep Betty... You might be like me... at night... I have thousands of thoughts and just can't seem to rest.... mind clicking away...... (HUGS)
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mornimg all, bitter cold but clear this morning..Let the furries out and inside a few minutes they wanted in so you you have to know its cold!

Looked out in hopes the shed next door flew a few more feet onto my gazebo, noreen, guess I get to keep th one, one more year!! Lol

Mary, I think she will be touched by the fact that you saw the 2 heart frame and thought how she would love it..sometimes it is not repurposing it's giving something that's yours to make someone else happy, nothing wrong with that. Oh oh I'm like you, have frames in the house with original photos that came with it, kids tease about me.having another family somewhere.

Have a load of washing left to do, bit of ironing then can attack that last side strip and border..

Hope you have something more exciting to do than I today...

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

We are fine thank you. No bad weather here yet. Bless those poor people and their families. Scares me but the good Lord knows best. HUGS BEV

Hello...Jumping up and down here
From MY computer!!!

Steve, somehow managed to get this lovely piece of equipment going again!!!
LOL, no wonder why i love him so much.

I've gone back to read, whew, so much to read, my eyeballs are getting pouty.

Betty, your Birthday was a wonderful day...so nice to have all the company.
Wow, your stained glass pieces are marvelous!! haha, had to laugh about your being nosey, lolol you know i am quite the same, got to be able to see what/who's going by outside...Yikes the other day was watching this lady walking her dog. Hands flew to my hips when she was allowing it to do it's duty on my front lawn!!
lol, she yanked on leash when she saw me waiving my finger no no, lol...

Moon...Loved that last u-tube clip. Very relaxinging. Grins, i can look at nature all day long and not get bored. Some of those photos, oh heck all of those photos are spectacular...I think the waves were my favorite. Makes me wish I could paint!

Mary, oh your cabbage rolls sounded wonderful, so happy they turned out great!! Steve makes them every now and again...
LOL, I looked for other whirligig books and found none! The one I did find, I looked at very long...I found in it, one i wouldn't mind trying, however it is something that has to go way to bottom of to do list!! Big bummer your work week was from (*&*(&. I think it's pretty neat you have a friend from past coming to work with you...you can't blame yourself for not alerting her of the work place, especially if you didn't know she applied for a position. Now at least you'll be there to support the difficults and yay hopefully she will support your difficult days too...Was so glad you weren't in the rounds of fire..And i think your gift was very generous, I am sure your friend loved it, but then i am partial to receiving frames of any kind, lol.

Well, I finally asked Anthony what the heck his deal was. He's in a bit of depression due to work. I told him he should open up and talk with us, if anything just to get things off his chest. Plus he said he was trying to find a second job. Geesh, i know thats a big bummer all by its self...Alissa, finally got a job, yippeee she moves back home today because she starts tomorrow! Lets see...Remember Jenny, well, she moved to Boston, to live with her brother. To start over. I sure hope it works out for her..i told her it might be the wisest thing she does. So far she has been gone for almost a month. She did get a job at the CVS, so I glad that happened...

LOL, Sabrina got grounded from using the car!! It was for a week, because she stayed out all night on a school night. We weren't very happy about that. But at least she did get to school on time. When she asked to use the car, I said it's not my punishment to clear, lol so she called dad...When he cleared her, i asked if she learned her lesson, lol of course i got the eyeball roll and heavy sigh, yes Mother I learned my lesson! ROFLOL, I told her watch her atitude or i'll be grounding her for another week! (secretly) Not...I'm tired of playing chouffer.

Oh goodness, Julia ripped her hand open at work. Poor baby...got to shake my head at her, didn't go to emergency like she should have. And the Saftey crew at the job Did not make her go. But her supervisor picked her up and took her to clinic next day. too late to stitch her, so they cleaned the wound and glued it back...She goes back on Monday for a check.

Last night, my boy went to the turnabout dance! LOL, he was asked by several girls. lolol he played shuffle the t-shirt to make the choice...They made shirts at school... How handsome he looked and he had a real nice time...He and dad went to the wrestling banquet a couple of days ago. it was ok. Ohwah, just realized no school tomorrow! Yippeee, we get to sleep in.

Well, i am at a major snafu with the baby quilt!! So best thing leave it for a few days and hope something pop into my head. But now i have to get it finished for the Baby shower on the 10th!! Yay, i actually read a book! It was great, i haven't really read anything for a while, with exception of Seedfolks, lol and that was done in less then 24 hours! Got to tell you though, i really enjoyed going to the Library...Think i will make it weakly thing to do, just to get out of the house...LOL, some mighty weird people go to library, makes for an interesting morning, lol.
So, i guess I need to get back on the quilt!!

OKaay, now that I've rambled on better go and see who's made a post since i've been typing forever...
ahaha, betchyaz just missed me, wink.

Gotta go dance around the other threads-see you in a bit.

Glenview, IL

Wow, Where the heck is everyone???
Can't remember last time it was soooo quiet.

Update: Julia and Anthony broke up after 3 1/2 years. Very quiet around my house today.

Lyndonville, NY

Oh Judy, that is so sad. I am sure several broken hearts as I know I have gotten attached to some of my older girls "exs". Better to find out now I guess before they are married and miserable.

Things are quiet here also....not well. Lots going on, will update when I can. No worries....

Debbie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yaaaaay Judy - so glad you're back - missed you, Girl!!
awww after 3 1/2 years.... ?! No wonder it's quiet around your place.....

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello to All ! Yes - very quiet in here... Glad we have Judy back to liven everything up... Oh Poor Julia ! Is she okay with it? Kudos to them for staying together so long though..... yes the library can be an interesting place to people watch !
Bev - kitties are so cute !
Thank you Betty & Judy re: the gift.... I feel better now.....DS insists that she likes it and he seems to feel like it was extra special that I gave her something of mine....
Not going through the tough times of some ... but please add me in your prayers this is week 2 of "H - E - double hockey sticks" week. Get through this week and things *should* get easier...
Deb - how is everything... quiet at the house ?
Dianne - is Warren eating ?

(hugs)
Mary

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, it is total "chaos" in the atmosphere....but no one is here but DH and I. Lots going on...just figuring out what to do.
The Child is moved in, although I dont know for how long. Yes it will be a learning experience for all of us. DS is back at school for the week. Not sure what next weekend will hold as he has "spring break" for 10 days...and wants to bring a friend home. BUT
he is in trouble also. I have had to stay on my anti-anxiety meds as I am having attacks big time.

Sigh. I have a cleaning agenda for this week. Paper multiplies!!!

New show starting at 10:00 GCB with Christian Chennowith sp?? but looks cute.

Debbie
