Best/Worse/what did I learn today?chat with friends..

Lyndonville, NY

Susan, Katie is buying an old ambulance I believe, to refurbish it into a usable van. People do it around here all the time for businesses and other things, more room and can easily put shelves and such in them. One man is a plumber and has his revamped. Only thing against it....ER lights can't work!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Kewl Beans!!
awwwwwwwww ER lights don't work? LOL

Afternoon everyone, here I sit at Joyride 150 and the kids are having a wnderfiul time..

Left home at 8:30am, was iffy, more I headed towards Barrie I thought I was going to be in for it..kids understood if it got worse we would definately head home..cleared for a bit then got stormy towards Toronto..kids would say, "we are too far to turn around now right?". Yep, definately too far to turn around...was out that the 400 series did not have the roads plowed, really slushy!

we arrived just after 11:00am..I paid for entry and seeing Noah was already registered and had a card off he went..didn't even get to ask if they had $$ for lunch.

Wondered what I would do with myself for so many hours, off I went back about 3/4 hr drive north west to Newmarket mall. Wondered if Julie was working at her store? Nope, asked the staff to call her, Jeff answered, I said 'hi, it's mom' he couldn't quite figure out how it was mom on business phone..I asked where he was, said if I walked straight ahead to food court he and julie were having a timmies before heading out to the international center..big sports show, got a room for the night and were just going to relax..I had thought they were on their way to the keys but not for another week...spent 1/2 hour chatting, we went back to Kernels, Julie's store and I got bags of popcorn for everyone..can't understand why people one up for specialty popcorn but they do..

Victoria Harbour, ON

So as we hugged and said goodbye Jeff handed me $200 and said buy yourself something for your birthday!! I know, I'm spoilt..walked the mall and had lunch at food court then off to a quilt shop..bought a few things, a panel to add and make a lap quilt for the cafe, looked at other material and thought to myself, 'self, you are not going to pay $24.99 a meter'. Absolutely NOT! Then got directions for Fabricland, that was a waste of time, bought 3yds of Christmas print to use as lining for sides of the Christmas quilt vs using my good material..and, here I is!

Might stay until 6:00' that will have given them about 7 hours, think they have done well having that much time...so cold in this sitting room..brrr if it were warmer I'd stay longer..guess I could go to the mall down the street but there is still 2 -2 1/2 hr drive home..this old gramma will be tired.

While Jeff/julie and I chatted Jeff did some texts with Greg..they drove through storms all the way..9 hrs behind schedule..we're in Moncton, New Brunswick, have to wait until tomorrow dor the ferry..been a long trip driving just the two men..they must be exhausted..hope he has a good week snowmobiling!

So that about does it for me. Lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, any news on the kitty yet..how long has he been feeling poorly?

Thea, yes, your yard looks like mine, true north winter wonderland! Love your spring wallhanging..you do a lot of appliqué? Wish I was in my Jammie's!

Oooh Noah's friend just found me..think I'll round them up
Need hot chocolate

Gab to you all when I get home

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - hope your day is going better now, and you're out of the snow!!
Oooooops - didn't realize it was your Birthday!!!! Happy Birthday, Betty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(((((((((((Betty))))))))))))))

I just finished my first R/W quilt block for a swap I'm doing in the "other" room!! I'm soooooo happy! It took me 3 days to figure out how to make the first block!! Lots of cutting "extra" away, so I wasn't sure where the "real" part of it was and how to piece each part lol
Here's the pic of the first one (only thing is, I "lined up" the stem incorrectly - should have centered it, not put the lines together.......)

Lol. One last ride!!

Congratulations Katie, what an accomplishment..proud of you! Must surelybe disheartening to have to do the suit against your longstanding friend..not a good situation..

I'm with Debbie, I've sure met (many personally) some of the finest people that I'm proud to call friends..

Debbie, kids were talking on the way here about Darrien lake amusement park, I promised to take them n Jne, told them I had a friend who lives nearby, wanted to know if she was one of my flower friends. Lol

Susan, how did the movies go last night, many in attendance? Is Friday and not Saturday right?

Crissy, hope you are enjoying the show..refrain from buying a fishing boat...

Now someone asked what 'poutine' was...French fries ladder with cheese and gravy..fattening. Speaking of fattening, Julie gave me a big bag of triple dipped caramel corn..I should do myself a favor and give it to the kids..theirs was a mixture of cheeses..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Beautiful work Susan..love the pattern and fabrics..hard part is over, 1st always the hardest! No, was Noah's birthday yesterday, mine is not until next week, guess Jeff thought I could find some goodies seeing I was shopping all day so give me my pressie early. Folded and stuffed it away..will put towards the settee set I want for back dec..between that, Greg's birthday gift and mothers day gift I'll have funds to pay for it..

Omg there was a Janome sewing machine at the quilt shop, fell in love with it but not with the $12,999.99 (sale price)

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - movie was last night. Several of the regulars didn't come BUT we had 2 new families show up!
1st - we have a sandwich board at the church, so I made a little poster for Movie night and set it outside (with a plastic cover, cuz it was snowing). When Bob & I came to set up, the sandwich board was Gone! Annoying at best...........
Then, the person who requested the movie and a friend that we were going to give a ride to, both decided they couldn't come (health). and I found out a couple of regulars were going to be out of town, so They couldn't come. I figured there would be 3 people plus Bob & I.
There were 4 elderly people from our church, Plus a man and his two little ones, and a couple and Their two little ones.
The movie (although a family one) was a little over the heads of the little ones (oldest ones were 6 yo). It was meant more for 10yo and up really. Good Movie - Dolphin Tale. Highly recommend it for families.
Then, when we went to leave........ the sandwich board was Back! Minus the movie paperwork but that's ok cuz it was only good for one night and I have the template on my computer.
It was obviously returned After everyone else left, because it wasn't there when they left........ strange, eh?

Next month it's "The Help"

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

OMG Betty - yes, I've heard of sewing machines costing that much..................almost have to take a loan out to buy one!!! What, the kids wouldn't buy it for you????????????????????

Victoria Harbour, ON

They love their mom but I doubt that much. Lol

Don't think the pennies I could save would do it either.

Grandkids maybe, not...lol. Noah decided today he wanted different handles for his bike, $114 later..his money not mine..how do these kids have so much money, truly amazing. While I was at upper Canada mall it was full of kids, 16 or so, bags and bags in their arms..gee whizz Louise, looked at blouses to go with new jeans I bought, most around $100.. Too rich for my blood

Kids are here, Melanie said stormy in Barrie, big car pile up on hwy so guess I'd best get a move on and hope pile up cleaned before I get there

Home sweet home, roads were great, got a call just coming out of Toronto that Suzanne when leaving the office this mornimg forgot to lock office door. Security wanted someone to come lock up! Comes in handy her knowing what I'm up to on weekends, security met me at the door, locked up and saved Suzanne an hour drive into office...

Of course the kids saw a Taco bell, had to stop..all and all they had a fantastic day, sure not moving quickly, they are exhausted..speaking of exhausted, ran my bath and now off to bed..

Glad I did the grandma thing!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - glad you had good roads coming back.
Guess you weren't far from the office when Suzanne called? Good thing!! Would hate for you to have been all the way home and have to go back - 40 min each way?!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Crissy - were the falafel balls like hoummus ? the Show sounds like fun...something for everyone... did you get any plants? Yes lol got hubs a pedi for Valentines Day...he hasn't used the certificate yet....
Thea - LOVE those pics...what a winter wonderland !
Betty - does Julie own a popcorn store? saw a new one in the Mall today before the dismeet...maybe flavored popcorn is the new thing...
Susan maple leaf looks awesome ! Love the Dolphin movie...haven't seen all the way through but the kids were watching a marathon weekend of it so got most of it..based on a true story. we watched the Help last weekend... was very good...funny about the stolen board that got returned !

Katie ((HUGS)) So glad to hear you sounding so upbeat and positive... hope you can cut that bad friend out of your life once and for all...then just look ahead.....
Debbie - what did you do today?

We had 6 people show up for the Dismeet. Three other families will be there the same time as us..so we are planning one at WDW.... Hubs cooked dinner and DS and DSgf ate with us and we discussed her going ahead and asking her parents if she can come with us to WDW....her dad is very strict but let her come to Natchitoches last year....

DSD2 got a letter today and was accepted to the college she wanted. It's 1 hour away in Lafayette. (YAY!) LOL Deb...she is my version of "The Child" but she has gotten better lately......

I had a rather lax day....didn't do much but paperwork. Waited all morning for the Vet to call on Huck, but no luck. Been waiting the last three days for results. Monday they will get an earful for sure.

We were supposed to have snow storm, thankfully it bypassed us....had enough wind to make up for it. I hope that is done also.

The Child (OH Mary, I so understand....and find her a dorm and not commute). She went on a excursion...came home with some tall tales why she did or didn't do something...with bags of things she purchase...with NO money. She is flat broke she told me. Yeah right.

DH even layed around except doing some "homework" on his computer for next week. He is waiting also for "the date" for his knee surgery...and that seems to be taking long enough.

Mary, WDW will be great, and to meet up with others you know shold be an adventure.

Betty, glad you had a great time with the Grandkids....and are home tucked in bed.

Be back....
Debbie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Mary - yaaaaaaaay on DSD2 getting into the college You and She want
Thanks for comment re: Maple Leaf. Should be an interesting centerpiece to the RWB blocks I'm getting, Plus blocks I got from another quilt block swap. It will include a lot of sashing (and I thought I'd put my BOM in, but they're 13" completed!).
I also have some "sampler" blocks I made about 30 years ago (points do NOT line up........ ).
I could have a very "interesting" quilt top...........

Baton Rouge, LA

Thank goodness the storm passed you up Deb ! Is Huck another stray that "saw the sign" ? (Debs house....this way.. look pitiful and you will get taken care of)

Sometimes nice to have a lay around the house day.... Does "the Child" have money just doesn't want you to know?

Susan... Love the maple leaf... I remember when as a child we'd come across a canadian penny was so special.. had the maple leaf on it.... How do you print at home a sign as large as the board? do you have a special printer?

Will there be news on the job front this week maybe ?

((HUGS))
Mary

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I just print 8 1/2 x 11 sheets - one for the poster from the movie, one for cast info and another for time of movie, etc.

Today Bob went over to the church to take tea light holders for our prayer table, and found that someone had put the plastic coated poster from the sandwich board inside the church. I suppose our caretaker from the church found it on the side walk or street and realized it belonged to the church.

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, Huck is my baby. He is truly "my cat". Yes, he was originally a stray...showed up at the strike of Midnight on Sept. 14, 2005.
He is somewhat famous here on DG as there is a "romantic storyline" with him and his girlfriend Souky on Pets. It goes back about 5 years. Sheila "Meezermom" and I have contributed to this "love story" for some time.

Good mornimg everyone..promised myself I'd sleep in this mornimg but the florins sunshine peeking through begged me to get up! Was to have a lot of shovellingmand, front deck, pathways but Cathy was here yesterday and all my outdoor chores are done!!must call and thanks her.

Just finished coffee, will bake some muffins as on such a gorgeous day I'm sure to get company.

Debbie perhaps no news is good news. Is the vet usually always prompt with diagnosis? So glad the storm missed you! Let's hope Paul gets in shortly for surgery, dreadful livingning in pain. Sure had an eye opener on the cost of clothing and who shops at high end malls..still wondering if they have mom/dad's credit cards..lol you would think the 'child' knowing she is always broke would realize add an apartment to the equasion would be nuts. Have my calendar marked Debbie for the March 30th hamburg craft show..can you mark it down.?

Susan, what an eye arching quilt using those maple leafs..inhave a maple leaf pattern but no hearts within..did you create design, sorry you probably said but I didn't retain. I thought perhaps the sandwich board may have blown away, lucky it was found and returned. Are you getting the storms ?

Dianne, here is hoping you and Warren aren't without hydro and are safe inside..

Laura, are you still sleeping, finally enjoying comfortable sleep..is hubby finding it well worth the purchase? Dual control right?

Mary, congrats to having one more at college, as
Ike with Debbie, you will soon have empty nest syndrome. Likely this family Disney trip will be the last..everyone will have jobs, school commitments and not all will be able to make it.

Thea, no question as to what you are up to, like Barb always in the sewing room..think Barb deserted you thou, she moved on to a puzzle.

Barb, is it done? Is it something you can frame?

Was just thinking, not long ago I thought the gathering here was sooo far away, end of June..now entering March in another week we will be midpoint..imagine, life is just passing us by!

Well, think I shall try and finish the Christmas quilt today, put that behind me..hmm set my large ruler and new rotary cutter somewhere and cannot find..must go on a hunt.

Will take photo of the insert I bought yesterday for the cafe laptop quilt ..adorable, now I need some blue/yellow/white..so glad I asked for those colors in a swap I just joined.

Bev, are you there sweetie? Need a photo fix and to hear you are ok...

Shirley, how did things go with the new job?

Crit, you will be out riding today for sure. Dianne and I talked the other night, although less snow this year, it was harder for her to go ride her babe due to so much ice.

Jean, sure hope you and Mary meet up some time soon

Judy, the kids back healthy?

Well, off to get dressed and decide just how much energy I have..

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Hi guys. Am here just in a bummer mood for weeks now. Can't get out of it. Don't want to do anything. LOVE YOU ALL BEV
Hardly any snow this winter. It has been the second warmest here ever. Hope we don't have another drought this summer. Lost some bushes trees and plants last yr.

OH Bev, so so happy to hear from you!

You know we were all talking about how we are dragging now. I think it is the lack of sunshine and just so much commotion in our lives. Open the curtains and let as much sunlight or light in general...in as you can. And love those kitties! That really does help!

How are the babies and Scotty doing?? Those are beautiful pictures!

Good morning to all... Betty, pending DHs surgery, I will be there.

Huck had his blood work on the 20th...ususally takes 3 days, but I know she was off til Saturday. She has two little children, and I don't like the other Vet...so was patient to wait for her call. I will definately call tomorrow and get news from someone.

Busy day and running...so won't be back til later most likely. Taking and adventure into our attic....scary place! lol

Debbie

I was just coming back on Bev and posting that like in families, all seem to make contact on Sundays..family gatherings so was going to put an sos call out to you and here you are...

Most difficult when y ou are in a funk to get out of it on your own even though you feel you need your own space and want to be alone but please, come talk with us..you know each and everyone of us love you..you are like family....

Having no snow is a bit of good news but like you I worry about what it will do to the gardens this year..they've barely had any insulation, bet I end up replacing a lot of my shrubs as well.

How are the boy s and Scotty?

ahhh just love the kitties, what joy they must bring you.. I have a Riley just like yours....

Almost maple syrup time, was wondering what kind of effect this weather will have on it..usually early to mid March it starts running, sunny days, cold nights but Mother Nature isn't her old self, perhaps little will be had..already expensive can you imagine the cost next year for a container?

Drats, tried on new jeans, have to return them, luckily there is a sears in town

Just talked to Cathy, thanked her..she asked if I had noticed she even did the roof of back shed..nope, thought I might have to go out and do it this morning but not...bought an extra scarf and pin last Sunday, told Cathy to drop in that I had something for her...she never wants to take $$$ for anything she does and makes me feel bad, so a gift here and there makes me feel good and she enjoys receiving something special she would not purchase herself..

Panel and 1/2 inch rulers, you who sew will know what a help they will be when making squares out of squares..lol

Ew Debbie I won't go into my attic, not afraid of the attic so much but the ladder to get up there is very wobbly!

Betty so glad you did the grandma thing and was able to get there and back safely! I bet the kids had a ball.

Susan love the maple leaf and so glad you had new arrivals for movie night! Yes Katie is buying an old ambulance.

Katie I hope your nerves have calmed down by now, I have driven from San Diego to Mulege before and I know what's out there, if you think it will make you feel better to talk about it dmail me.

For those who don't know how to pronounce Mulege it's Moo-le-hay.

BEV!!!! I've been depressed like that, why get out of bed when there's nothing you can do anyway, right? Do A LOT of self talk and get up, get in the shower, get dressed, and go do something cheerful, it doesn't matter what or even if you don't feel like it, You got to get going or it will just get worse.

Everyone is worried about what this summer is going to be like, another dust bowl doesn't sound like fun down here!

I didn't go yesterday, decided to get Dave's beauty center ring things put on his wheels, went to his work and swapped him vehicles, then went to North Little Rock to a western wear store to find a pair of jeans that fit my fat butt, found one pair of Crewel Girl's for $13!!! And even better, they're not all holy or old looking! Then I went to JCPenney in the nearby mall to look for a purse, the ones I really liked online turned out to be too big with straps that are too short. Then went to the other JCPenney across town to look at their selection, they had some stuff that the one in the mall didn't have, but then Dave's boss, Robert from CA, called me on Dave's phone and chewed me out for not stopping in to say hi to him when I changed vehicles, I didn't see anyone and didn't want to interrupt work, he told me since I was still in Little Rock to get my tail back over there and he'd buy lunch, so away I flew, we had a great chat, Dave said that they talked all day long and got a lot of things out in the open that Dave's feeling very stressed and negative out about and is confident Robert will take care of it. After that I just had to stop at Kohl's to look at purses, found a Vera Wang one I loved for $80, yikes, then found another one I liked for $30, figured I could get a better deal some other time so I didn't get anything, then went to the store for a few things then came home and washed my car, Dave got home and I cooked dinner, and Dave went to bed at 6:30pm. I'm contemplating going to the flower show today at 10 before church lets out, I've never been to the show before, but then I think that I really don't want to drive back up there today as I have Elephant Ears to plant, but I worry about frost still. hhhmmmmmm

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hi All!!
Bob is in a bowling tournament today, so he's "skipping" church. He'll come by to put up a mirror in the piano practice area in our hall for when we put on our choir gowns.

I've finished another quilt block, but did it too quickly and made errors (points don't meet as nicely). I ripped out some stitches and made it "better" lol Betty - I got the pattern from an online site. I'll send you the pattern.

We've been getting snow and high winds, and expect more snow today. Sure has dropped in temp too!

Better get ready for church..... cya L8TR!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - I emailed you the Maple Leaf with Heart quilt pattern - to your work address :-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Betty, love that panel! Where did you buy that? Yikes on the price of those rulers!
Bev, so nice to see you posting. We do worry when we don't hear from you. How are the babies doing?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Susan, I'll print it off tomorrow, wouldn't it look lovely in fall colors..you don't bowl? I enjoy it but am terrible. When I first got the wii I'd bowl with the kids. Good luck to Bob..

LindaKay, after I bought the rulers I went to fabricland and they were $34.98.. Great for marking squares..as for the panel, at that little sewing store next to where Julie has her store..came n a bolt, think it was $16.98' if you ever want one let me know..

Crissy, nothing like going shopping and coming home with very little..I did much the same yesterday, only a pair of jeans which I will return tomorrow..lol. How come when we have $$$ in our pockets we never find a thing and yet when we are broke, everything is in sale? Sorry to hear Dave is having issues at the new job..sometimes jobs descriptions aren't given and superiors assume the individual knows their case load...let's hope their talk will help!

Picked up Cathy and ran into town, groceries are done, omg hungering for turkeupy, can you tell me why I will cook an entire turkey dinner today for just me..should invite someone over shouldn't I..see, if you lived closer you would not have to cook tonight.

Looking at the clock, 12:30 and I haven't done a thing except stop at car wash and of my car..off to get some sewing done!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Guess this weekend is a washout, decided to do noth g at all. Lol
