Best/Worse/what did I learn today?chat with friends..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, snowed last night but sunshine bringing in the day..

With sunshine streaming in I thought I'd move us over to a new room

We came from here

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1242311/#new

Great day for travels...

Must say I'm relieved that I didn't head state side, mon the news last night they were saying up to 3-4 hours wait at the border..ouch

Will be a Jammie day today, am hoping I'm more out of bed then in bed but we will see. Did not sleep well last night..

Was in a deep sleep when Greg called, said he had been to penetang winterama and my godson Paul (cousin) asked that Greg call and ask me to come see his carving exhibition..Greg called but a few times during the day I did not answer telephone so must have been one of those times..Greg said Paul had about 80 carvings, all wildlife, birds his specialty..said he wanted me to pick one..he'll be back up later this summer so will meet up with him..told Greg to pass the hint that his snowmobile Dickie which I made him about 20 years ago needs to be replaced..I've extra deer hide so will pick up wool and put it on my to do list..scratch one off and add another..never going to get done at this rate.

Danielle my niece dropped in yesterday afternoon with Ariana, she made Auntie Betty a pressie..gorgeous frame and photo of herself..adorable! Once I oooh'ed and ahhhh'ed she asked me where her present was? Lol. They stood at front door while she gifted..think when Danielle saw how I looked she told Arianna who wanted to do crafts that they would go shopping and come back another day.

Same went with Joanne, she dropped solder, new 1/3 inch soldering tip and didn't come in..

So that has been my last few days

I'll start this new thread and back to chat

Debbie, congrats on the shoes..am sure they will help the walking situation..are you back to feeling yourself or still under the weather.

LindaKay, have yourself a fun filled day with mom to be, what color or theme did she pick..wouldn't it be something if she went into labor while you are there? She will have a treasure to pass on to her newborn before weekends end with you excellent tutoring.

The award banquet for Brandon's horse show season was wonderful. Everyone from his group won something whether it was champion, reserve or third or fourth place for each division they had entered in. Brandon won two Champions, two reserves and a fourth. But the best part of all was that he won the sportsmanship award for the year. We are all so very proud of him and the young man he has become.

We are about to head out to Dianne's and Warren's!!

Glad to see you post Betty...but you didn`t say what is weighing so hard on you...bigggggg hugs coming your way.

Barb...what great pictures...especially love the last picture...the pride you have for your grandsons really shows in that picture!!! What great looking GS's you and Norm have.

Have a wonderful day all and I will make sure Dianne will receive all your hugs!!!

Love Thea

Victoria Harbour, ON

Omg Barb, how very proud you must be..what an accomplishment for Brandon, he hasn't been riding that long has he? And to photo of the four of you, now that is a picture perfect photo, what a bunch of lookers..yes, you too Norm!! Lol. Can't believe how mature Sean is..Lordy seems like yesterday he was but a little one needing grandma to watch over him, soon it will be he keeping an eye on norm and you...feels great having them do so..often Kyle drops in and Noah..makes your head swell with pride..

Thanks for sharing!!

Looking at the clock Thea, that brings you to Dianne's just before one?? Wish I were with you..so wanted to visit Dianne and Santa warren last fall but wasn't to be! Hugs/hugs and more hugs, that's the call of the day!

All worked up and am sure my rambling will be confusing..big issue is my Mom..

Sharon called yesterday to update me and chat..both she and I are beside ourselves to say the least.

Sharon was speaking with Brian (her son) who has been staying with mom and Jim for past year..in mom's eye she only has onee grandchild, and Brian (44) is he, rest she is lucky to know their names, ok bit of exaggeration but not by much!

long story short, mom has been losing it, been extreme harsh with Jim..the man is 75 years old, still works full time job that a 30 year old would be tired at the end of the day, my thoughts is so he has limited time at home with mom..sure of it!! I guess things got so bad the other night that Brian lost it, told her she was the nastiest, vindictive, cruel, negative person he had ever met..gave her a few other choice adjectives to best describe her these last years. I can never remember my mom being satisfied with anything..she has always had money to do with as she wanted..winters in florida, cottage in muskoka's and home in Toronto, but NO ENOUGH..never is there a kind word for her kids or their accomplishments but things are just getting worse.

She was telling Brian as soon as the dog dies she is killing herself..worried Brian told Jim. Jim, who is so passive, a man who is content with small things of life, loves reading books is his biggest joy in life is living hell on earth..mental cruelty in biggest degree..his response to Brian was, let me know what day and I'll be sure to leave out extra meds...not a bad thing for him to say, it's that he is at end of his rope..said he is about to move to a homeless shelter just to get away from her..

So. Do we have a talk with her? Did so before, she said we wre all ganging up on her, boo hoo poor Fran!

Do we meet with Jim and let him know that we are supportive of anything that he will do, ie like leave..they've been together 42 years

Do we tell him to maybe find an apartment for some time and try and sell both homes so he can enjoy what life is left that he may have

Would so love to tell my mom exactly what I think of her as do the other kids, but I'm rather a coward, don't like to make waves or hurt someone's feelings

Would that put her over the edge?

She is ridiculous when it comes to the dog, for goodness sakes, euthanize the poor thing..brain cancer? Pain? Living with a witch..think the later part is the worse..there is my worse of the day.

Already Bernie rarely speaks to her..Mike only when he has to, Sharon when a must and me out of I don't know what.

So there you go..personally I think she has had one or more breakdowns and she has lost all sense of being a human..even aunt Muriel doesn't know what to do with her and being her only sister and so close rarely wants to be in her company..

What to do, what to do

She called me yesterday, thankfully I was nauseated and couldn't talk long nor could she come over..all excited wanted to tell me about her purchases at Fabricland, bought enough fabric for 2 more rag quilts..said the sales lady couldn't figure out how I made them because it wasn't the normal way...what to heck did she tell them I did? They are so simplistic???

On a downer,if she hasn't lost it we have!!

He asked what was wrong with her head, waking Jim up every hour to go see of the dog has died? Her aunt, dad both succumbed to Alzheimer's and I'm wondering if her repeating things, her

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Oh Betty...I am so sorry. According to all I have read, and seen over the years, and given her history, I would say that the possibility of Alzheimer's is very likely. Mood swings, obsessive behaviour, anger and abusive behaviour , depression/euphoria and spending are all signs. This link has info and discussions regarding behaviour changes and Alzheimer's/dementia. Good thoughts, hugs and prayers for you.

Oh Betty. BIG BIG Hugs.

My opinion? Take her to the doctor....tell them what she has said and done. Tell them she has threatened to take her life. Support Jim 100% plus. Let Jim do as he needs, as DM has gone over the line. If the spoiled grandson is seeing it....we know you see it as does Jim...but takes a LOT for a grandchild to react as such. (been there done that).

I would have someone take DM for a ride....and Jim or someone take the dog and euthanize. Bring it back and "OMG, dog died in its sleep".

Jim is a Saint, he has gone above and beyond. Your DM sounds like what my mom & I went through....Step Father** was going to get a gun and put my Mom out of her misery. That was when doctors put him in the hospital. I think it is safe to say your DM has a form of serious dementia, not so much Alzheimers, but very possible.

Jim needs to get Power of Attorney ...no so sure spouse laws and such in Canada...but to make decisions for your Mom as she is no longer capable. Jim has a lot of life left in him, and she is going to drive him over the edge...not right.

***Edited because I left out word step father.

LOTS of hugs for you, for all of you.

Debbie

Betty I second what Debbie has said 100%.
If she has dementia there is no talking to her and getting anywhere.

Hugs to you......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks for the support everyone..I've seen changes over past several years, she has always been negative but now there is no spot of goodness in this entire world..

Sharon said she tried to talk to her a bit, mom was asking Sharon about depression, Sharon tried to tell her a bit about the need for her to go again and ask dr for meds..said they didn't work so Sharon asked her if she asked the dic to try others, no was her answer..says its everyone /everything depressing her, not HER..

Will call my youngest brother Mike tonight and talk with him..I'm not sure who has power of attorney, could be he! Jim and mom have never been married, common law..imagine in front od Jim she said that she and my dad made a vow they would love each other till death do you part and she would never marry anyone else..hmm wonder why she left him then..talk about war zone when dad married Flo.

What gets me is this, she is on such a downer, doesn't want to live then calls all excited about all fabric she bought to make several more quilts, can't wait to get at hem and yet in another death throwing all fabric away because she is not understanding but more that we are not explaining it right...

Enough of the downer..making breakfast/lunch..bacon/eggs/home fries
and hope i get to keep it down..rather hungry..

As I sit on the chesterfield sunshine is beaming in..nice to feel heat ..

Brought a piece of the Christmas quilt upstairs as I've a row of handsewng..might improve my mood..

Sometimes you just got to hope you don't make it to this stage of the game and put your loved ones through hell! Bad thought right

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All;

((HUGSS))) Betty that is indeed a tough situation.... I totally agree with the above ....everyone... and if Mom isn't prone to reason there is no use to try to reason with her but perhaps get a social worker or therapist involved if not for Mom's sake at least for dear Jims.....

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

We are home again from a wonderful visit with Dianne and Warren!!! What a beautiful place she lives in...OMG you guys you have to see the view they have!!!! With Dianne's permission I will post pictures tomorrow.

What a wonderful hugable person she is!!! I am sure this will not be the last time we will visit each other. Warren and Bernie had a great time playing games of cribbage together and well Dianne and I we just shot the breeze like old friends!!!
And yes I gave her lots of hugs from all of you!!

Have to run now...our son is here for a visit and we have some catching up to do!!!

Love and many hugs to everyone
Thea

Betty...I read what you wrote about your Mom...and I am just shaking my head here in disbelief about your mom's behaviour. Deep breath Girlie and I agree with the others about going to talk to her Doctor...sure sounds like some menthal issues to me. Also...not sure if she is still on those hardcore painkillers (I think it was oxi)...that is also something to look at as side effects from those are suicidal tendencies and well strange/irrational behaviour....I know you said your Mom was always uhmmm "different" but if now she is even worse...maybe look into the meds and tell her Doctor about it. You, Sharon, and or your brothers and Jim can go to the Doctor alone and talk to him without your Mom present and see what the Doctor thinks about it. We are all here for you Betty and just know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Biggggggggggggg Hugs...things will get better you'll see.

Lyndonville, NY

Ohhhh Thea! Can't wait to hear about your trip and visit to Dianne & Warren! So so happy you were able to get together.
Enjoy your visit with your son also.

well, I got in a cooking mood and after getting dinner together, made a chocolate cake....and put in some chocolate chips and walnuts.
I guess it was good as DH gobbled up two pieces already....with a glass of milk to wash it down. A well balanced meal if you ask me! lol

I soaked in the tub just to get warmed up...so darn cold and I don't know why!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

(((((((((((((Betty)))))))))))))
I also agree with the others - speak to a Dr. about her behaviour. Whether it's dementia, or meds-related, a Dr will do what's best for her and JIM!! Poor Jim, what's he to do? And the dog - in pain with brain cancer - my goodness. Your "poor momsie" NOT!! She needs to have "care" and that does not mean everyone pandering to her, it means a physician's diagnosis. If her loving grandson can bring himself to say those things to her, then he's reacting to her attitude, - Good For Him!!!!!!

You forgot one...... Pitch a fit. it sort of like a hissy fit...but way different.

Yawntoo?.....is a question. Ya want too?

The one that gets me in so much trouble...pronouncing Milk...it comes out Melk...WHAT do you want?

Don't even ask about soda, pop or cola...just don't.

Baton Rouge, LA

HAHAHA ! Debbie ! You need to come back to the South where you belong... LOL..... Yes I've Pitched a fit too... Yawntoo talk about that one ?
We don't have soda, or pop or cola in the South. We only serve Coke...but there are many different flavors of Coke....

Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Rootbeer, etc.... LOL

Lyndonville, NY

YEP! And Nehi!

I am truly a southern gal....and can't deny it. And to this day I get teased to no end by people up here.

Do you know I never even had a piece of pizza until I was 20....from a pizza shop! I mean, sure we ate out once in awhile...mostly on Fridays..if we didn't have a cookout. BUT we went to Lums!! Or someplace with "dignity" and has a shrimp basket. Never would have thought to go somewhere and order a burger and fries or pizza!!! I went to McDonalds twice before age 15. lol

Baton Rouge, LA

LOL Debbie ! Grape Nehi! You can get those at Cracker Barrell now right?

Never forget Grandpa had a refrig on the back porch with those 6.5 oz coca cola bottles loaded... Mom always loved her Coca Cola... I'd stock up before her visits!... DS does now... I think it is inherited in a gene......

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, about 8 years ago now....for Christmas DH got me a case of Grape & Orange Nehi. I got so emotional, he couldn't find it in NY anywhere...and ordered it from the company. I opened up the case and busted into tears. The red was my favorite, but they don't make it anymore!!! Well, I drank one bottle of the stuff...and about died! Sugar content is 57 grams! It is very "retro looking" on my shelf in the kitchen....and nobody touches it! lol

They have something similar at Cracker barrell...but not Nehi that I have seen. Maybe down south. They do have the little glass bottles of coke though! And the candy we all remember.

Baton Rouge, LA

Oh Deb... will have to stop by Cracker Barrell this week... I thought for sure they had the Grape and Orange Nehi...but never seen the red.... Paul sounds like a "Keeper" to go to those lengths to get your soda for you ! LOL.....

Lyndonville, NY

We had been talking one time....months before Christmas, I was having a hard time for some reason. And said about how things change, and things I miss so much from being in Florida. Was telling him how every day after school, I had a quarter....get a cherry/red nehi and some penny candy! Then would drink it (in a glass bottle) while riding my bike home from the bus stop to the house...maybe 2 miles.

Yep, he does have some strong points for sure. Other times we need that 2X4. lol

Lyndonville, NY

You know what is so funny Mary, I still drink RC aka Royal Crown cola....as does our Judy! Remember walking in her house the first time and there was an RC!!! We bonded! lol I remember being in the local store up here...and seeing a bottle of RC...my eyes teared up and again, poor DH!

Thank heavens Walmart up here now carries it.

Baton Rouge, LA

LOL! Deb... Same here ! definitely ... the same here.....

Lyndonville, NY

I am going to bed. It has been a long and difficult weekend.

Sweet dreams, and praying that Monday is the start of a better week for everyone!

Debbie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh oh........ I'm Nowhere Near the South, and I know most of these......... and in Manitoba we even have a Snake Pit - here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5twJXRv8bg
The snakes are so thick they cover the road and all you hear is "squish, squish". They even built an underground "snake way" for them to travel rather than go overland!

and Boy do I know how to Pitch A Fit!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Sweet Dreams, Debbie - I think it was a Full Moon, cuz it was a difficult weekend for me too..........

Baton Rouge, LA

LOL Susan ! Maybe we are all "Southerners" at heart... Or maybe we all just have the same difficulties and like to try to explain them by region ! LOL

Lyndonville, NY

Thanks Susan, I have just been in the dumps for about four days!

Get some rest!

Good night
Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mornimg all, no snow that is the start to a good day..FamilyDay!! Told them not to come around, my boys are leaving thursday, Greg snowmobiling in Newfoundland and Jeff biking in the keys so wouldn't want to pass on what I've been blessed with this past weekend..

Think I might live, still nauseated and not steady on my feet but I've decided to do my hair and get dressed..might make me feel as though I'm human..

Loved to hear Thea that you had a wonderful visit with Dianne/Santa Warren.. Just know we were all included. Your conversation and giving of hugs..can't wait for the photo's! Mil and fil would play crib for hours..roger tried to teach me numerous times but just couldn't get it!!

Mary how did your birthday bash celebration go? Always such a great menu..

Mary and Debbie, I'm not from the south but recognize much of what was posted..I'm most at peace in the south, think old souls move, could I have lived in far south? Lol

I too Susan know how to throw a 'hissy fit'

Debbie, here is hoping you can start the week without doom and gloom...think it's end of winter blues which have many of us down!

Coffee and cereal call my name..

Laundry and maybe taking on a project or so will keep me outof bed today

Waving to all

Lexington Park, MD

Goodmorning to all.
Went to bed and it was snowing so thinking there would be alot .....maybe 2 inches.
Waiting on UPS to deliver last box for new bed.
Susan oh my gosh look at all those snakes....makes my skin crawl and yet I watched the video.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yikes, not a fan of snakes..only thing I worry about when gardening near the rocks that surround pond..good place for snakes...but, lucky I've not seen any ..oh happy days!

Quiet morning, sewed 2 last panels for the Christmas quilt, now all that remains is sides..already 'meandered quilted' the top, am sure when finished Suzanne will cherish it..

Laura, drats, probably the first box of supplies you need to put the bed together..anxious to hear how it works..are the kids enjoying the snow?
How's the toothache?

Animals are enjoying quiet day..Missy not please when I made her find another place to lay as I needed the bed to place the quilt for measurements..

Had coffee never did have my cereal, tummy is hungry so off I go..

Thea, anxiously awaiting photo's

Betty xmas quilt has turned out just beautiful. And I see the block I sent to you.....
Snow has melted.
No toothache had it pulled. It was the meds after that did not sit well.
UPS will deliver the last box tomorrow. Waiting stinks.

Lyndonville, NY

Wow, very pretty...so much work in that.

No mail delivery today, I was upset they were late then remembered it was holiday! Ooops. Had garbage pick up so it just skipped my brain.

Betty, make sure you get something in your system to eat...not good.

Lyndonville, NY

I know your not going to listen to me, you never do. But maybe someone on here can get this through miss Bessies Lous head.
Seems the weekends she is home more....she is sick. The last couple weeks of "Flu like symptoms" seem to be getting stronger.

http://www.bing.com/health/article/mayo-MADS00648/Carbon-monoxide-poisoning?q=carbon+monoxide+poisoning+symptoms&qpvt=what+are+symtoms+of+carbon+monoxide+poisoning#symptoms

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh geeze, Debbie - I never thought of Carbon Monoxide poisoning........... I didn't read the article, but you may be right - it's something Betty needs to look into. There are "testers" for it, right? And Detectors, too......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just got back, was just thinking should go for an outing with all this sunshine..who pops by is June sporting a lovely scarf..talked me into going and looking at them at a friends house..ok got 3 so much for not spending money this weekend..thought I broke a record, had only spent $40 ..oh well..bought one for Suzanne, one for me and one for a gift..they are lovely with all the cut out's which take on color of top behind them..

Laura, still 12" overhang on both sides left to do..had bought some lovely fabric for it, some with green/black tones and red cardinals..got to say its one heavy sucker!!

Debbie, Greg is away today with family on snowmobile trek, I'll call him at work tomorrow and have him send one of his men do the testng..thanks for caring..

Must go take a photo of scarves

Lyndonville, NY

Susan, I have been begging Betty to get it tested....way back. And again when she just got this new fireplace put in. She had problems last fall with something...and they had to come do repairs.

I have been in this situation and know personally how sick it can make you feel. If my son hadn't spilled his sisters nailpolish down the heater....and I called because of a strange smell, we all probably wouldn't be here.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh my........... one good thing to be said for nailpolish?!?!
and I presume he was Using the nailpolish? LOL

Lyndonville, NY

ROFL, he was 3....and he poured it down the heat duct. SO when the heat came on, and it heated up....it really made us all sick. We THOUGHT it was the nail polish...but was the Carbon monoxide. Every time the heat came on the heater core....which had a crack in it...opened...and released the carb. mon. which was making us sick. We just thought it was the nail polish.
