Sports Talk!! Part 8 Spring Training Edition

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

The Yankees haven't lost a game in forever and it doesn't look like they ever will again. (Yes, as a matter of fact, I am trying to jinx them.)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i am sick about the red sox trading youk yesterday - he was a great player for them and he will be just a good for the white sox. i understand that middlebrooks has been great, still he is un-proven and has not seen the same pitchers twice yet. youk has had some injury problems lately although nothing that says he will continue to break down in my opinion.

what really annoys me is that the red sox pick up 4.4 mill of the remaining 6.6 on his contract this year - and the players they got in return are marginal. If you are willing to eat that kind on money just keep him on the team. i hope this does not come back to bite them!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I was surprised to hear that.

South Hamilton, MA

I don't think that Bobby V. liked him. although Youk wasn't helpful in his attitude. yes watch one of the r. sox get injured so he would be needed.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i agree lucy Bobby V. called him out early for not being committed enough - which is scary since youk was one of the hardest workers on the team - and youk being youk let him know he was wrong. not convinced he had a bad attitude - just a hard nosed player - did a lot of charity work and will be missed.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Told you Bobby V is a moron.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yep you did - he has done a nice job with the pitching staff here - i think that was just him trying to motivate players without really knowing the guy he picked on.

he should be calling out our china doll, jacoby ellsbury, he they can trade, one good year, and two years of life on the dl.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

He chooses people to pick on. He went after one Mets pitcher for not getting enough sleep and he would not stop! He is a weird dude.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

I love(d) Youkilis too but I understand why they traded him from the baseball management aspect. Middlebrooks is hitting more than 100 points better than him and has been the second best hitter on the team since he was called up. And they are starting to get healthy in the outfield again so they couldn't keep trotting A-Gon out to RF.

That said, I still think Bobby V is a moron blowhard and if I had my choice, I'd rather have both Youkilis and Francona still on the team.

Thomaston, CT

I agree!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I went to a Mets game way back in the late 70's when Bobby V was a bench player on the Mets. We had front row seats from my friend's mom's job. He was an a**hole letting kids feel his biceps. Creepy.

Thomaston, CT

Huge ego!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

by the way how come the mets could not beat the yankee's ???

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Because they have no bullpen.

Thomaston, CT

Too many injuries......playing with guys called up from Buffalo......

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

they beat them the 1st game

Tennis referee's now get a decible meter to monitor noise levels of grunting of the players. Whats next? Football when the players gets ram rodded and grunt? This world has absolutley gone crazy.

Thomaston, CT

Just weird....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

then they have to analyze it to death and then they'll be discussions on who has the loudest grunt, why can't they just play and we watch?

South Hamilton, MA

I would rather watch without the grunting. You wouldn't hear it in football.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, it's really annoying.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

a little noise is not a big deal - shows they are trying

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, but not on the tennis court...

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

un-button the collar and relax

South Hamilton, MA

Hate hearing the grunts during the big tournaments on TV. Takes away from the fun especially when it echos at the stadiums.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Watched the sox game yesterday - After Pedroia hit his home run to tie the game in the 8th Nick Punto met him at the top of the dugout steps and shouts "now that's what I am F'ing taking about!" He was too fast for the sound man:) On replay it was cleaned up

I pick up something very heavy I gunt. Not to make noise but to gather some extra adrenalin or whatever.

Dont weight lifters grunt?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Are you kidding me?!! Yankees get Ichiro for two minor league players?!!

Thomaston, CT

Oh, didn't hear that.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

and he helped the yanks beat seatle last night

please pray for the red sox

Thomaston, CT

Yeah, Mets, too! They are slip sliding away!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm praying for the Red Sox but I don't know what to pray for anymore.

South Hamilton, MA

Come on, it's a sporting season. Just pray that no one gets hurt. Game results are the players fault.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

pray for lester and beckett - if they turn around we'll be ok

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

irisMA, if that's the case, we should have started praying a lot sooner given all the injuries the Red Sox have suffered this year.

I agree with you, Bill. Lester and Beckett are the biggest problems for the Red Sox right now. Their offense is #2 in runs scored in all of baseball - just one run behind the Texas Rangers. If they had some decent starting pitching this team would be a legitimate contender.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Went to watch the Mets lose again today. Pitching is horrible. Offense is inconsistent.

Thomaston, CT

Watched until the 5th inning....couldn't take any more!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Had a golden opportunity in the 8th. Bases loaded and no outs. Only plated one!

Thomaston, CT

Seems to me like they've given up already......

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You guys watching the Olympics?? I am - on and off.
