Sports Talk!! Part 8 Spring Training Edition

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Love the sprints, but cannot take the sprinters these days. They are all cocky idiots.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Haven't seen any interviews with them

Why is badminton an Olympic sport?

South Hamilton, MA

why not? Have you seen their tapes?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you need that mentality in the sprints to be successful

it is not the energy boost, in fact they register much lower pressure than a normal elite athlete - what they allow is a much faster stride - all humans have almost the same stride from grammy to kindergarten, it is the pressure when the foot hits the ground that is the difference maker - that is why it is strange how fast his stride is compared to normal runners.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I like badminton! A favorite game of mine as a kid, I could have been a contender :) We've been playing it with the girls.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No - I meant boost in the blade, Bill. The springiness of it allows it to absorb energy on impact and then 'catapult' when they push off.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Who's ready for beach sumo?!!

Thomaston, CT

Uh....maybe not!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Saw a very funny piece on 'if all Olympic sports were photographed like beach volleyball'!!

Thomaston, CT

There were some studly men in the beach volleyball competition.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the boost in the blade does not give an advantage - when the article is available on line i will post it.

i even have my wife cheering for beach volleyball - great matches so far

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

A racewalker was found to be doping! That's almost as funny as the false start in the 1500m swim!

Thomaston, CT

Not too bright!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Soccer game today was most exciting match I have ever watched. Instant classic.

South Hamilton, MA

certainly the US was using their head, ☺

Thomaston, CT

And I missed it!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

saw the second half on replay last night - great game - accept for the players that kept falling and staying down - then miraculously were able to get on thier feet and continue ot play - both sides were pulling this obviously to give the teams breathers.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

So glad they protested Ally's balance beam score, gotta love Bella!

South Hamilton, MA

It's tough on all the gymnastics who work so hard.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Glad we got more medals! The women (girls, really) have been great.

South Hamilton, MA

You're not 'girls ' when you are 32 & 34. I admit you are when you are 18. Even I can remember that.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

great beach volleyball match yesterday between china and US

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Glad Ally got the bronze but felt so bad for the other girl, what a disappointment to think you have it then get it taken away. I wonder if when that happens they should both get one (???)

I'm sick of volleyball!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

not me - i think the beach volleyball is the most exciting event in the olympics!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

I agree with Wha. And not just because of the bikinis!

I like that beach volleyball requires a mix of power and finesse. I like that it requires the players to be in total sync with each other. I also like that it's one of the few Olympic sports that you can watch and know exactly what is going on and know when someone has screwed up.

When I watch the gymnasts do their vaults and uneven bars all I can think is "wow, that looked good to me." The only time I recognize a screw up is when they don't nail their landings.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, beach volleyball is very tough. Lots to cover with only two people.

Are there gymnasts in these games that old, Lucy??

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

The chick from Romania is 24, she's the oldest, I think

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The Russian one who wears all the glitter always looks like she wants to kill someone.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

With their hair pulled back so severe they all scare me

Thomaston, CT

Glitter girl thinks she looks sexy with her perennial pout! I saw her push a coach away though, so I think she's a toughie....I'm glad the score was protested....the American gymnast did a much more complicated routine, I think it was a little favoritism because of the Romanians age...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

She pushed the coach away more than once.

All the US girls are cute on this team.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

there is a german gymnist that was 42 i believe - originally from one of the soviet countries i think. she was in the team competition.

up until a couple years ago i use to play 2 on 2 vball - great workout - all you hear here when it is on is great dig - nice bump - great, good dink, blocked!, and way to cover. women seem to be more exciting than the men because of the longer volleys.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - the longer volleys does it for me...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Latest results, if you want to know.

Thomaston, CT

Scary stuff for that Cuban! I knew I didn't like the pole vault!

South Hamilton, MA

I can't stand beach volleyball. I didn't like regular volleyball when we played it in school.

Certainly women's basketball has changed. When I played it was still half court.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

pole must have been made in china that is our catch phrase in the house when something breaks along with "cheap chinese crap!"

Mason, NH(Zone 5b)

Thank God....Football is back. No other sport even comes close to how I feel about football. Go Patriots! Give every fan of every other team even more reason to hate us...I feed off it.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

No sport that I detest more than football...don't even get me started ☺
